ASkar Gives Us a How-To in December’s Elle UK:
Ladies –and all delusional queers like myself– apparently all you need to do to win over this heart-throb is compliment his acting (instead of his indubitable good looks. According to Skarsgård, “Vanity is suicide for an actor. Your creativity will die if you focus on looking good”) and obsess over the Hammarby Fotboll Club. (I’m Googling all things Hammarby in the adjacent browser tab as I write this… Swedish soccer players, you say? Double-yum.)
Skarsgård is featured next month in Elle UK and writer Tim Teeman sat down with the Nordic god-of-a-man for the interview. In it, readers can relish in the actor’s mini-bio details, e.g. he started acting at age 7 but didn’t appreciate the overzealous attention he received after The Dog That Smiled. From there he joined the Swedish Royal Navy for a year and a half, toyed briefly with the idea of becoming an architect at Leeds Metropolitan University (but spent most of his time drinking instead of studying) before deciding to return to acting. His big break came from Zoolander, but his major fame has stemmed from his role as Eric Northman on HBO‘s True Blood.
He’s not only gracing the small screen (i.e. Generation Kill, 2008 mini-series) with his talents, though. His film career is w(h)etting our –let’s say– appetites, as well. Most recently released, in Straw Dogs, Skarsgård plays a tenacious, rural ex-boyfriend. His object of obsession and tight-grip is on urban Kate Bosworth‘s (who Skarsgård dated through July ’11) character who is involved with the character played by James Marsden. The film is a remake of a 1971 movie of the same name and includes a powerful and violent rape scene between Skarsgård and Bosworth’s character that was “tough for us all.” Before that but also released this year, he played in Melancholia with Kiefer Sutherland, Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg. He just wrapped up filming an adaptation of Henry James’ What Maisie Knew this summer.
About his personal love life, the 35 year-old Swede is not stressing. He likes being in relationships and he likes being single. He says that it’s possible to be happy or miserable in either situation, but obviously he’d rather be happy. He loves cooking, traveling, and because he comes from a family with six younger siblings, eventually wants kids. He says that a lot of girls want him to bite them (no surprise there… I’d let him take a chomp of anything of mine) but, “I can’t [bite them] because I’ll end up doing it for the next thirty years. There will be no biting,” he says. (Darnitall!) However, the message he does want to send to all Elle readers: “Tell them I will marry them all.” So that’s it, I’m moving to California where it’s legal.
So Truebies: if you can get your hands on Elle UK, do it! You can check out the linked interview here, or click on the pictures below for the full story and let us know what you think in our comments section!

Yorkshire Terriers, Love Squares, and Werewolves, Oh My!
In a recent interview, Emma Roberts, an Entertainment Reporter for MSN Entertainment, spoke with the statuesque Joe Manganiello about his role as Alcide Herveaux on HBO‘s True Blood. At 6’5″ and 225 lbs, Manganiello is not only a beefy hunk of a man, but as Roberts notes, is charming and adorable. When Alcide growls, Manganiello revealed that he’s channelling his 8 lb Yorkshire Terrier when Hercules (how effing sexy is a big man with a tiny dog named Hercules?) is threatened with the prospect of losing his pig-ear treat. If you weren’t swooning over Joe before, now would be a good time to start.
What Manganiello loves, and what audiences love about his role as Alcide, is what we love about dogs: “he’s very loyal, he has a big heart; no matter all the bad things that happen to him, he keeps coming back.” And why does Alcide originally fall for Sookie? She smells good. (I wish he’d sniff me out!)
About the forming love square between his character, Sookie Stackhouse, Bill Compton and Eric Northman, Manganiello surmises,
“My character offers something very different to the other two vampire suitors – he can go out with Sookie during the day, take her to tea, go to the beach. So they can do other things in the daylight that the others can’t.”
He adds that vampires can be “savage and duplicitous.” Whereas werewolves can also be savage, “Alcide in particular has a very strong moral code which isn’t necessarily present in the other characters on the show.” He articulates that Alcide has fallen for Sookie because she has a spunk, an energy of light; when he’s forced to take her into the underground world of werewolves in Season 3, he feels inclined to protect her and those feelings never disappear.

Club Fangtasia – For One Night Only!
For Aussie fans of True Blood, there is only one place to be on Halloween – Club Fangtasia! For one night every year, Seamus O’Toole’s in the Melbourne suburb of Knox, is transformed into a True Blood hot spot.
Last year was possibly the best night out I had had in a very long time. So would this year live up to expectations? Yes, it did!
While there was a slight hitch with Hub Productions having to cancel their annual True Blood convention (For more information on why, please go here.), there was still a huge demand for Club Fangtasia tickets. VIP tickets sold out fast, and general admission were not so far behind.
Without ticket sales being done through Tru Blood 2, there was a slight decline in True Blood inspired costumes, but that did not dampen the night at all. This year I dragged out my bloody Sookie costume again (Season 1, Episodes 1 & 2), with one little alteration – Talbot. But not just any Talbot, I went for Talbot after Russell decided to keep him in a candy jar.
When you first set foot inside Club Fangtasia, it is like you are transported to Merlotte’s. There were plenty of True Blood posters on display as well as road signs and neon signs that all added to the atmosphere.
Event organiser, Garth O’Hehir gave me the chance to arrive early and watch as the pub was transformed. There was plenty of smoke machine action, special effects, as well as video clips from True Blood stars welcoming people to Club Fangtasia. Thanks a million Garth for allowing me this privileged before hand look at set up!
The band for the night was called ‘Orlok’ and provided an awesome blend of music for the night. If some people recognised the front man, Gaurav, it is because he also fronts another band that plays regularly at Seamus O’Toole’s.
Fang-tastic True Blood cocktails were on offer again. Plasmapolitan (a crowd pleaser from last year) was one of my faves again this year. Also on offer were: Fangbanger, Death on the Beach and The Shapeshifter. I gave each of them a sampling and found them all ‘bloody’ amazing!
It was amazing to see so many familiar faces from last year’s event, which just goes to show how much fun was had by all. So if you are an Aussie, or in Australia next Halloween, make sure you check out the best True Blood themed Halloween party in the Southern Hemisphere!
For those of you privileged people who were there that night, make sure you check back to the event’s Club Fangtasia Facebook page, since photos from the night are up now. Garth apologizes for the delay, but there was an issue with the page set up not allowing albums to be added.
Let us know if you spot yourself in the crowd.

Queen Sophie-Anne on Love and Justin Bieber:
Not only does Bon Temps’ deceased vampire queen, Sophie-Anne LeClerq prefer to romanticize with women, but so does actress Evan Rachel Wood… well, Wood is really an equal-opportunist when it comes to romance.
On being bisexual:
“That’s a big part of who I am, and it always has been for as long as I can remember. I can’t say I’m one way or the other, because I’ve honestly fallen in love with a man and I’ve honestly fallen in love with a woman. I don’t know how you label that, it’s just how it is.”
On Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never, Wood admits:
“I ended up seeing it three times — in the theaters. One of those times was the director’s cut, I’m not even kidding. I got obsessed with the kid. It’s going to be weird if I ever meet him. He’s brought so much joy to my life.”

A New Film with Director of “The Grudge”:
True Blood Hottie Ryan Kwanten, aka Jason Stackhouse, will star alongside Amy Smart and Leslie Bibb in the thriller 7500. Takashi Shimizu, who also directed The Grudge, will direct this film which was written by Craig Rosenberg. The movie is being produced by CBS Films.
This thriller is about:
“a group of passengers who encounter what appears to be a supernatural force while on a transpacific flight.”
Kwanten and Smart will be paired as a married couple who travel on flight 7500 with two old friends on a trip to Japan. Bibb will play a flight attendant who is immersed in some type of complex and secret relationship.
Sign us up for anything with Ryan Kwanten! We have a few questions: Will he be playing an American or using his real accent? Will Kwanten be shirtless (always a plus)? Will there be any comedy, because Kwanten can be quite funny. Are you excited to see Jason Stackhouse in this upcoming thriller? Will you be lining up for a ticket or waiting for the DVD? Let us know your thoughts and ideas in the comments section below.

Preston in Bag of Hammers, Law & Order, The Good Wife:
Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler to Truebies) has had a busy schedule while True Blood filming is on sabbatical. She’s starring in a new film called Bag of Hammers with Jason Ritter and Amanda Seyfried, which she has described as a departure from her other roles as of late. Her character is a single mom who is way over her head. She has no money, a kid and no job prospects; naturally the role is “more serious, darker.” The characters who play opposite her are “two slacker con-artists. Young men who are really just boys… [who] by encountering my character and son… they grow up,” Preston says. “In some ways, [the film is] a subversive look at alternative parenting.” The theatrical release of the indie flick Bag of Hammers is set for this fall or winter.
On the small screen, Preston has guest starred on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (in which she plays the aunt of a rape victim) and a recurring role on The Good Wife. On The Good Wife, Preston plays Alicia Florrick’s (Julianna Margulies) “slyly dithering lawyer” who is “ditsy like a fox.” Preston plays Elsbeth Tascioni, the “scatterbrained genius” with a “quirky rhythm” says Ken Tucker of EW.com. Elsbeth returns (from the first season) to help Alicia out of a sticky situation with her expected-terrorist client. The episode entitled “Executive Order 13224” aired November 6th.
Of her role, Preston said that she was delighted with the character’s ripening. In this particular episode, we see her “struggle a little more. We see a little more of her vulnerability. It’s always a rare thing… to have a character that is so unique and specific [in such an auxiliary character]… instead of just a talking head.” She credits The Good Wife with the ability to write characters back into plots successfully. “[They have] a wonderful revolving stable of characters that they continue to bring back… They tend to want to give everybody that comes on the show a real, fleshed out character.” She asserts that this ability, among other great qualities, is what keeps the audience interested.
But what we all want to know is what she can reveal about True Blood‘s Season 5! Shooting begins shortly after Thanksgiving, and after reading the first episode, she affirms that it is “up to the usual True Blood standards with epic proportions of new characters and drama and comedy. You know, romance and everything else we’ve come to expect.” About Season 4 cliffhangers she declares, “fans will definitely be satiated almost immediately,” but then, “of course, a million more questions will come up, and those will propel us through the rest of the season.” The actors that will play the new characters are not known to her, yet. On her story-line she reminds us that Terry’s war buddy, played by Scott Foley, is still around and we’re not sure how that will affect their home life. Her response is as tight-lipped and spoiler-free as her cast mates’. We’re reminded yet again that we’re going to have to wait for the premiere to learn just about ANYTHING… but the element of surprise is what keeps us interested, right?

Chris Bauer Partakes in the Storytelling:
Bauer was one of 200 guests to attend the 10th anniversary party and benefit for Word Theatre, hosted recently by Word Theatre’s artistic director Cedering Fox. The event marked the celebration of 10 years of literary and artistic genius. Fox describes the motivation behind Word Theatre as:
“…trying to ignite a new generation of literature fans, we bring stories to life, we give voice to great writing.”
The event was not only in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Word Theatre, but it was also a benefit in an effort to “help bring Word Theatre into Title I schools, which are largely attended by students from low-income backgrounds”.
Chris Bauer is not alone in the pursuit to support such a worthy cause:
“For over a decade the storytelling salon has fused the literary and theatrical worlds in Los Angeles with monthly events at which established actors such as Ed Harris, Forest Whitaker and Minnie Driver perform the works of fiction writers such as Rick Moody, T.C. Boyle and Mona Simpson over dinner in an intimate supper-club setting. In recent years, Word Theatre has expanded its reach, with monthly salons in New York and periodic events in London. All evenings are recorded and repackaged on CDs sold through Harper Collins Audio.”
Word Theatre allows artists to be creative and bring to life the art of traditional storytelling. It is a breath of fresh air to hear that good old fashioned storytelling hasn’t completely vanished from the world we live in today.
