Video: True Blood’s Marshall Allman in Blue Like Jazz

March 9, 2012

Tommy Mickens Escapes the Bible Belt:

Marshall Allman Blue Like JazzThe trailer for Marshall Allman‘s new movie, Blue Like Jazz, has been released. Blue Like Jazz is about a 19 year old named Donald Miller who is ashamed of his Baptist upbringing and goes to a college in Oregon to escape. He lets loose and in the process, hurts some of his new friends and works to make it right. The movie looks like it is a classic coming of age story with a slightly religious twist. Allman is not the only young star in this film. It also stars Claire Holt (The Vampire Diaries), Tania Raymonde (Lost), and Natalia Dyer (Hannah Montana: The Movie).

Blue Like Jazz is directed by Steve Taylor, director of The Second Chance, which also has a religious theme. Steve Taylor, along with Ben Pearson, wrote the film. It is slated to be released April 13, 2012.

I think Allman is really going to be able to show off his acting chops in this film. Truebies, watch the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments!

Creator Alan Ball Prepares for Life After True Blood

March 8, 2012

The End of an Era is Near…. at Least for Alan Ball:

It’s official, Alan Ball will be stepping down as a show runner for HBO‘s hit True Blood if the show returns for a sixth season.

HBO has made public its intentions with regard to Alan Ball’s continued role beyond Season Five:

“When we extended our multi-year overall deal with Alan Ball in July 2011, we always intended that if we proceeded to True Blood’s sixth season that Alan would take a supervisory role on the series and not be the day-to-day showrunner. If we proceed to season six, the show will remain in the very capable hands of the talented team of writers and producers who have been with the show for a number of years.”

This parting of ways from True Blood is going to give Ball the much needed creative time to pursue further series with HBO, and Cinemax.

In a statement made by Ball he says:

True Blood has been, and will continue to be, a highlight of not only my career but my life. Because of the fantastic cast, writers, producers and crew, with whom I have been lucky enough to work these past five years, I know I could step back and the show will continue to thrive as I look forward to new and exciting ventures.”

Though I’m sure that Mr. Ball will be greatly missed around the set and at the helm of the day to day magic that is created for our viewing pleasure, his retirement may be a good thing for us die hard fans.  Would someone in his position really announce leaving the show, if it was fated to end after the fifth season?  I would like to believe that not only do we get to look forward to Season Five in a few months, but also Season Six in 2013.

Deborah Ann Woll, True Blood’s Baby Vamp, Becomes a Compassionate Caretaker

March 8, 2012

The Love of Her Life is Going Blind:

Deborah Ann Woll and EJ Scott at CNN Heroes Tribute 2011Deborah Ann Woll, who plays baby vampire Jessica Hamby in HBO’s True Blood, has written an essay on the life lessons and the difficulties of loving someone who suffers from the genetic degenerative disease, Choroideremia. EJ Scott, Ms. Woll’s long-term boyfriend – who she calls “the love of my life” – is going blind as a result of this disease. Their journey together as they learn to adapt to EJ’s worsening sight, at the same time they embark upon adventures designed to raise funds for a cure, is both emotional and inspiring.

True Blood Cast Member goes from “Geek” to “Caretaker”

Ms. Woll is a self-described geek who, as a child, enjoyed the New Jersey Science Center. The exhibit that interested and frightened her in equal measure was one that replicated the experience of being blind. Years later, she draws on the experience of the exhibit to inform her understanding and compassion of EJ’s condition. She writes openly of the difficulties associated with learning how to care for EJ with kindness and compassion, while mastering the practical skills this requires:

“As for me, I have learned what it is to be a compassionate caretaker, and what a challenge that can be at times. EJ is incredibly independent but still there are things I must help him with and these will only increase as his sight worsens.”

Both EJ and Ms. Woll remain upbeat in the face of this challenge. They seek to inspire others. EJ has embarked on the 12 Marathons in 2012 Campaign (you can follow his journey on Twitter @12marathons2012) in order to raise awareness of Choroideremia, as well as funding to search for a cure. Ms. Woll supports EJ’s endeavor and takes solace in the fact that “seeing is not done only with the eyes, but with the heart as well”.

Joe Manganiello Dishes on “Magic Mike” and the “Season of the Werewolf”

March 2, 2012

 A Werewolf Stripper?

Joe Manganiello Scream Awards 2011As fans eagerly await the return of True Blood’s Season 5 this summer, Joe Manganiello seems to be the most prolific celebrity spoiler for the show.  It has been noted that if we were to call season four the season of the witch, season five will be the season of the werewolf.  That means a whole host of hot new werewolf cast members.  Manganiello told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent (at GQ’s Men of the Year Party in LA) that he’s looking forward to the season.  Last season, Alcide “helped end the reign – and life – of packmaster Marcus… and actress Dale Dickey recently joined the cast as Marcus’ – presumably grieving – mom.”

Manganiello said:

“I can’t wait to work with her (Dale Dickey) and I think there’s gonna be some werewolves who are gonna give Alcide some trouble this season, as well.  I’m anxious to see who they’ll cast.”

The actor has revealed that he’s on par with the fans in wanting to see his character bump nasties with Paquin’s.  “Alcide likes Sookie a whole heck of a lot.  She’s single, Alcide’s single… I totally want to see them hook up.”  Apparently, Manganiello’s mother is a big Paquin fan as well, and wants to see her son’s character “find love with Bon Temps’ fairy-waitress.”

He also raved about the disastrous return of Russell Edgington.  “I love Denis O’Hare,” he said.  “Him coming back – it’s not good for Alcide, but it’s definitely good for the show.”

Finally, in a separate interview with Access Hollywood, Manganiello spoke about his role in the new, star-studded, male-stripper movie “Magic Mike” in which he plays Big Dick Richie (Gasp! Drool.)  While the movie was “loosely inspired by Channing Tatum’s own past,” the actors were treated to lessons from the likes of Britney Spears’ choreography team.  “Body rolls, some hip stuff,” Manganiello mentioned.  His costars include Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, and Alex Pettyfer.

I personally am waiting with bated breath for the release of this film (in post-production) along with the return of True Blood, of course.  Who’s with me? Leave your thoughts in the comments section, and check out the two full interviews that I have listed as sources if you need anything juicier.
