True Blood Season 7: Sarah Palin Turns Down Cameo Role!

July 25, 2014

HBO Manages to Offend Ted Cruz AND Sarah Palin With Episode 5:

Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) get their Texan on in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 5 (entitled 'Lost Cause' and previously entitled 'Return to Oz')For many republican fans of HBO’s True Blood, last week’s episode (entitled Lost Cause) may have been a little bit unsettling. For other Truebies, it was probably hilarious. Especially when Ted Cruz took to social media with his retorts about the tea party massacre in HBO’s premiere vampire show. If you haven’t yet seen the episode and want to catch up on all the controversy immediately, you can read my recap on it here.

Since then, Sarah Palin has joined Ted Cruz in voicing her opinion about the episode – as well as revealing that HBO approached her for a cameo role in Episode 5!

The brilliant minds of True Blood were brazen enough to ask me to do a cameo on their show, apparently so they could insult a conservative woman in person instead of just all conservative women in general. Their offer wasn’t presented in any negative way, perhaps to benefit from a surprise factor after the guest appearance. I turned them down anyway.

Sarah recently told Breitbart News.

What do you think? Was True Blood poking fun at politics in general or insulting conservative women? Let us know you thoughts by commenting below!

True Blood’s Costume Designer Discusses the Season 7 Costuming Choices

July 23, 2014

Audrey Fisher Spills on Those Republic**t Costumes:

Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) suits up in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 5 (entitled 'Lost Cause' and previously titled 'Return to Oz')For HBO’s costume designer, Audrey Fisher, it is always a challenge to find just the right costumes for a show like True Blood. But she must be doing something right as fans and cast alike have continuously raved about her costume choices. For the record, she states that for each episode, her main focus is:

Try to get costumes that definitely were a big wink, but that weren’t too comical.

As for last week’s episode (entitled Lost Cause), there were certainly some extra challenges with making Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) just the right blend of republicomical:

I had to make at least doubles of it, maybe even triples. I sketched it up. We found a great fabric that we could get enough of, because he’s a tall man—it’s a lot of yardage, more than just the average suit. And a wonderful tailor in Koreatown whipped up these beautiful suits that fit like a glove and have really beautiful Western detailing. We topped it off with not a 10-gallon hat—that would be too comical—but a really beautiful Western hat.

As for Pam’s matching ‘republic**t’ costume, her task was a little simpler. Writer Craig Chester had already penned in a purple sequined gown as port of the scene requirement, so while Audrey didn’t have to design something from scratch, she did have to find the dress quickly. She found the near perfect gown and with a few minor alterations, had the perfect dress for Pam ready to go:

So his outfit I got to custom make, and her outfit I had to piece together a little more. That’s pretty typical of True Blood. Sometimes I’m able to make it from soup to nuts, and other times, I have to use all my wits to figure out a way to pull it off in 48 hours.

As for one of the other costumes used during the republican gala event, Sarah Newlin’s (Anna Camp) mother, Nancy Crabtree, was supposed to wear a red suit. However, due to the amount of blood shed in that scene, her outfit was changed to a pale pink suit so that the blood spray would show up better.

And, as  for all those 80’s flashbacks, Audrey looked to Richard Gere in American Gigolo as inspiration for Eric Northman’s outfits!

What do you think of Audrey Fisher’s costume choices for True Blood? Let us know in the comments below!

True Blood’s Nathan Parsons Discusses His Character’s Love Life

July 23, 2014

James the Vampire is in a Love Triangle with Jessica and Lafayette:

James (Nathan Parsons) and Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) get cosy in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 5 (entitled 'Lost Cause' and previously titled 'Return to Oz')In Season 6 of HBO’s True Blood, we saw newly made vampire, Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll), falling for the brooding James (then played by Luke Grimes) while both were trapped in Vamp Camp. Now, with Season 7, it seems James has not only gotten a new look (with the role being taken over by newcomer, Nathan Parsons), but also a new direction in relation to his love life! While many fans have been busy wondering if Luke Grimes left because of other movie commitments or as a result of a diversion in character that he wasn’t expecting, for his replacement, Nathan Parsons, he is just happy to be on the hit show.

While James and Jessica have been turning into a boring old married couple getting comfortable with each other and the changing world around them, there has been one human that has been helping James: Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis). It is through this new friendship that we learn of how James was turned and how he is also bisexual. With one thing leading to another, we found Lala and James in the back of a car in Episode 5 (entitled Lost Cause) last week.

Recently The Hollywood Reporter got a chance to ask him all about this story line, and in particular the fact that gay relationships are not as openly physically portrayed on television even though there are now plenty of gay couples gracing our screens. Nathan had this to say:

We just had to be really careful about how we went about it. We didn’t want it to be uncomfortable to watch or over the top. It has to be something that is seemingly organic and loving, instead of just having sex for the sake of having sex. I think that was the difficult line to walk. It comes out of nowhere and we have to do it tastefully, and we all have to be comfortable with what’s happening. But Howard [Deutch], the director, was great about it. Nelsan and I just went along for the ride, and I think it turned out really well.

And this story is important and should be told and needs to be shared. It’s a story that’s being told all over the place, and TV doesn’t pay enough attention to it. The “Do I love this guy or love this girl?” and “Is this right or is this wrong?” becomes more important than the act itself, and that I think was really well done by the writer [Craig Chester] and Howard and Nelsan and myself.

While it seemed Jessica was pretty shaken up by catching out the pair, will there be a rekindling of their relationship? According to Nathan, no, there won’t be. Especially since Jessica will have a new situation to deal with. Nathan didn’t expand on what this would be, it makes fans wonder if maybe Jessica will contract Hep-V like Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and, more recently, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer)? Or is he simply alluding to the fact that Jason’s (Ryan Kwanten) girlfriend, Violet (Karolina Wydra) knows all about the tryst he and Jessica had not long after Jessica discovered James and Lafayette together?
