Kristin Bauer van Straten Visits Best Friends Animal Society’s Sanctuary

September 30, 2014

The True Blood Actress is the Society’s Ambassador:

Kristin Bauer van Straten stars as vampire Pam in HBO's True BloodFans of HBO’s True Blood not only know Kristin Bauer van Straten as the vampire Pam, but as an actress who adores animals. Recently she got a chance to visit the Best Friends Animal Society’s Sancuary which is the nation’s largest no-kill shelter. Kristin is a celebrity ambassador for the society and has been a strong advocate for them over the last few years. This was her first visit to the sanctuary and she had this to say about it:

Words can’t describe this stunning operation. Things impacted me that I hadn’t expected. The beauty of the place, the backdrop of Utah is ever present. The people who work here and volunteer are quite astounding. I was also surprised by individual animals I met: a wobbly big black cat who pushed his head in to my hand and purred so loud; a guinea pig with a Mohawk who made such strong eye contact with me; and a seven-month-old pot belly pig who already knew all the tricks my seven-year-old dog can do.

This is a trip one simply must do. Best Friends is the only place like it in the world. The founders have done something never before accomplished. Before their vision, no one believed (no-kill) was even possible. Lives are transformed at Best Friends through a very special combination of love and know how. Treat yourself to immersion and some of that transformation will also rub off on you, it has me. This is a trip for the soul.

Sam Trammell Walks the Red Carpet for White Rabbit at the Boston Film Festival

September 30, 2014

The True Blood Actor Plays a Drug Addict in His Latest Movie Role:

Sam Trammell as Sam Merlotte in HBO's True BloodFans of HBO’s True Blood all know Sam Trammell as the lovable shapeshifting bartender, Sam Merlotte. However, his latest movie role – that of a drug addicted father in White Rabbit – is quite a change from this! As Sam Trammell walked the red carpet in celebration of the release of White Rabbit at the 30th Boston Film Festival, he had this to say about why he chose the role of Darrell:

I was really attracted to the part itself … as an actor, getting to play a bad guy, even though Darrell turns out to be good in the end, is always really fun. He’s a drug addict and mean, but actually had a good heart. But he’s limited in his open-mindedness. He didn’t have a big open mind, so that was fun to portray.

White Rabbit tells story of a bullied teenage boy, Harlon, who has an untreated mental illness. He has endured visions of a white rabbit his father forced him to kill as a child. Nick Krause plays the role of Harlon. The movie also stars Britt Robertson and Ryan Lee. Tim McCann directs this movie from a screenplay by Anthony Di Pietro. It is produced by Burning Sky Films and SSS Entertainment, and distributed by Breaking Glass Pictures.

You can check out a couple of video interviews from the Boston Film Festival below. The first one is a red carpet interview with Sam Trammell. The second video is a Q & A session that was held post-screening.

Allan Hyde stars as Godric in HBO's True BloodZoo Me Now is a band from Denmark that, according to their website, “plays rock music with a mix of influences and a raw unpolished sound inspired by bands like The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, The Hives, Foo Fighters etc.” They are a four piece rock band that was formed in Copenhagen in 2013.

Recently they released their newest track, Die For Me. It is a great song, not only because the tune is a dirty rock fusion, but because the video clip for it features Allan Hyde (who played Eric Northman’s maker, Godric in HBO’s True Blood)!

The video clip also stars Julie Christiansen and Marie-Louise Werner. It was written, directed and edited by Nuka Woelk. Mads Junker was the Cinematographer. Hair and make up was done by Katja Krarup Andersen and the producers were Frederik Meincke Larsen and Nina Kirstine Strøm Nielsen.

Lois Smith stars as Gran in HBOs True Blood Season 1If you live close to the Center Theatre Group (CTG) in L.A. then why not check out Lois Smith (who played Sookie’s Gran in Season 1 and Season 7 of HBO’s True Blood) in the production of Marjorie Prime? It is directed by Les Waters. The show’s synopsis is included below (as via the Center Theatre Group’s press release):

“Marjorie Prime” asks exquisite questions about the difference between a life lived and a life remembered. Marjorie (Smith) is a clever, wry woman who, at age 85, finds that her memory is failing. She is living out her days at an assisted living facility where she is frequently visited by her anxious, quick-witted daughter, Tess (Emery), and her kind, easygoing son-in-law, Jon (Wood). With the urging of Jon and the facility and despite Tess’ misgivings, a mysterious young man, Walter (Ward), joins the group with the hope that he can help reverse Marjorie’s decline. Through an ingenious series of shifting realities, Walter’s nature is revealed, and the family’s memories gently unfold into a cathartic meditation on life and loss, and the desire to keep our dearly departed with us.

Alfre Woodard is Set to Scare in ‘Annabelle’

September 24, 2014

Before The Conjuring There Was Annabelle:

Alfre WoodardAlfre Woodard (who starred as Lafayette’s mother, Ruby Jean Reynolds in HBO’s True Blood) is about to star as Evelyn in Annabelle. For fans of horror movies, you will remember Annabelle as that creepy doll in the 2013 movie based on a true story, The Conjuring. Well, it seems Annabelle has managed to unleash her demon-possessed soul in this new movie due for release on October 3rd in the US and October 10th in the UK and Australia. According to IMDb, the story line is as follows:

John Form has found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia – a beautiful, rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia’s delight with Annabelle doesn’t last long. On one horrific night, their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult, who violently attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror are not all they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damned that is now… Annabelle.

I was lucky enough to score special advance screening tickets to this movie, so will be able to give you a full review on it next week. Meanwhile, here’s the movie trailer:

Anna Camp to Reprise Ground Floor Role for Season 2

September 23, 2014

Anna Returns to Her Role as Heather Alongside Skylar Astin:

Anna Camp stars as Sarah Newlin in HBO's True Blood Season 6For fans of HBO’s True Blood, it will be nice to see resident baddie, Anna Camp (who played Sarah Newlin in the vampire series) return to yet another juicy role. This time it will be in TBS’s Ground Floor. In Season 1 we saw her in only one episode playing the role of Heather, an extremely competitive ex-girlfriend of Brody (who is played by Anna’s real life boyfriend and Pitch Perfect co-star, Skylar Astin). It seems fans couldn’t get enough of Anna’s role and she is set to return to the show in Season 2 which is set to debut on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 10/9c.

TV Guide had this exclusive scoop on Heather’s return in Season 2:

It is revealed that Heather was chosen to run the Hong Kong office after Brody bailed on the job. However, Heather’s experience turns out to be a cautionary tale of what might have happened to Brody if he had taken the gig and left Jenny (Briga Heelan).

As well as a return to the small screen in Ground Floor, Anna is reprising her role of Aubrey in Pitch Perfect 2 which is due out in theaters next year. if that isn’t enough of an Anna Camp fix, then you can check out her as the voice of Princess Ivy in Disney’s Sofia the First: The Curse of Princess Ivy this November.

Janina Gavankar Stars in NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura

September 19, 2014

The True Blood Actor Shapeshifts Into a Homicide Detective:

Janina Gavankar stars as Meredith Bose in NBCs Mysteries of LauraUp until recently, Janina Gavankar starred as shapeshifter Luna Garza in HBO’s True Blood. Howver, she has now joined the cast of NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura which premiered on September 17th 2014. The Mysteries of Laura follows the life of homicide detective Laura Diamond (played by Debra Messing). Janina plays fellow detective, Meredith Bose, a character who is not only is envious of Laura, but also finds her husband, Jake (Josh Lucas), attractive:

We’re going to see why Meredith is like that. … I just know that Meredith has hero worship and hatred at the same time. [Laura’s] just so good, but d***it, Meredith just wants her shine. It sucks to be in the shadow of somebody… Meredith is a very classy lady and would never do anything to be disrespectful in the workplace, but I think she thinks Jake is real cute. [However] a lot of things can happen [on the show] and we don’t know what those are yet.

It seems Meredith may cause complications between Laura and her husband – even though the pair are in the midst of a divorce!

According to IMDb.com, the series synopsis is as follows:

A single mom NYPD homicide detective cracks case after case while raising wild twin boys and locking horns with her less than helpful police detective ex-husband.
