Alexander Skarsgard Teams Up With His Father For Sci-fi Drama

April 21, 2010 by

Stars and family members collide in Melancholia, a science fiction disaster movie by Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier, which will start shooting in July in Southern Sweden.

True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard will star opposite his actor father Stellan Skarsgard, whose popular film credits include “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Mamma Mia.”

24‘s” Kiefer Sutherland and “Spiderman‘s” Kirsten Dunst have also been cast. Kirsten‘s role was originally slated for Penelope Cruz, who reportedly jumped ship for the next installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” where she will play the daughter of Blackbeard.

The film centers on Planet Melancholia, an enormous planet that looms threateningly close to Earth. Lars only comment on the film — “No more happy endings!” — could very well be its tag line. Stay tuned, Skarsgard fans.
