Anna Paquin On Inside Track For Emmy Race

July 11, 2009 by

annaglodenglobeIn The Gold Derby section of The Los Angeles Times, Tom O’Neil has given us the inside track for lead actress in a drama. Of course our own True Blood’s Anna Paquin is on that list. Tom explains in his article the Emmys have “ditched the judging panels to determine nominees, letting the lineups be chosen strictly by an outright popular balloting of the TV academy’s acting branch” and feels that, “that means the outcome should be more predictable than usual.”
To me, it makes more sense to be judged by a panel of your peers. This is what I believe the new system of judging is about based on his description.

We have also read in previous articles through him and other columnists about the so called “curse” that in his words “drives a stake through the Emmy hopes of the stars of vampire shows.” [sorry this is not just any vampire show this is Alan Ball’s vampire show]. In that aspect I believe Anna has proven the theory wrong she has already taken home a Golden Globe for her role as Sookie Stackhouse on True Blood, and as Tom says she has two pluses on her side: “being on HBO and owning an Oscar from her role in the (“The Piano”).”

In Tom O’Neil’s Golden Derby section there are links to the Emmy nominees in various categories and the Emmy nominated shows, with our favorite True Blood along with some other great cast members (Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton!),  have made it into quite a few categories.
