Trailer: True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård Suffers From Melancholia

April 24, 2011

Melancholia Opens in Theaters Later This Year:

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard's new movie, Melancholia, hits theaters later this yearA dramatic science fiction thriller starring True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman) as a melancholic newlywed, who probably needs comforting? Yes. Please. Legendary filmmaker and provocateur Lars von Trier’s new film, Melancholia, revolves around the unhappiness of Justine (Kirsten Dunst), who married Michael (Skarsgård) even though (it appears) she didn’t really want to. Throw in a tumultuous sibling rivalry and the harrowing reality that a new planet has just been identified (and is careening toward Earth), and you’ve got yourself one explosive story line.

Von Trier, who at one point announced “no  more happy endings!”, has been pretty tight-lipped about his newest work, but has recently revealed that:

“In Melancholia I start with the end. Because what is interesting is not what happens but how it happens! So we begin by seeing the world being crushed, then we can tell the story afterwards. In this way you don’t have to sit and form theories about what will happen, but can delve down into some other levels and become interested in the pictures and the universe; that’s what I imagine.”

Von Trier admitted that some of the emotions in the film come from his memory of his childhood (he grew up in Denmark), and how he was plagued with horrific fears of nuclear war.  Watch the trailer below.

Melancholia is heading to the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, which will be held May 11-22, 2011.

What do you think Truebies? Sounds like a pretty crazy journey to us!

Waiting Sucks: Pam

Pam faces off with a witch to help her makerEarlier this week HBO released the next clip in its Waiting Sucks campaign and this particular scene takes place after Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) falls victim to “amnesia” and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) is on a mission (in a super sassy outfit!) to get her maker back to normal. However, it’s immediately obvious that no matter how threatening Pam is to Marnie (Fiona Shaw), the witch isn’t planning to reverse the spell she’s put on the vampire Sherriff. Watch the clip below.

From the sounds of that laugh at the end of the clip, Marnie is going to be quite a handful this season. And it sounds like Shaw is just the person to play her. According to Lauren Bowles, who plays Merlotte‘s waitress Holly, Shaw is a very focused actor:

“If there’s one thing Fiona Shaw could never be accused of as an actor, that would be phoning it in. I have seen the woman (on two hours sleep) learn an entire monologue in Latin and perform it with faultless elocution that would have made the Pope proud. She’s what you would call a master craftsman. I’m not sure if I want her to be my mother or my mentor or maybe my lover.”

What do you think Truebies? Does Marnie look like a believable witch? And how about that face-off?! Pam against Marnie, Lafayette, Jesus, and Tara? Guns and candles and a salt circle? Sounds like a perfect combination for some craziness.

True Blood’s Jessica Tuck Opens Up About Nan Flanagan

April 6, 2011

True Blood's Jessica Tuck talks about her alter ego Nan Flanagan

Inside True Blood Interviewed Tuck on April 1

Jessica Tuck plays Nan Flanagan, the never speechless (well, unless you pull a King of Mississippi and you wrench someone’s heart out of their chest on live TV) and always fearless spokesperson for the American Vampire League on HBO‘s hit drama True Blood. Flanagan is one of those characters that you don’t always see much of, but when you do, her scenes always stand out. Tuck sat down with Inside True Blood blog‘s writer Gianna Sobol and talked about the fans, life as Nan,and Team Eric vs. Team Bill.

Best Fan Reaction:

“It was very early on in the show, I was at home visiting my family in New York. And New Yorkers don’t really react to actors; I’ve never gotten recognized in the city. People don’t care, they walk around minding their own business. But this guy walked up to me and said “Oh my god! You’re Nan! I love you, man!” And he gave me this huge hug, then kept on walking. And I thought that was so much fun, he dug Nan and that was really nice.”

The Upside of Playing Nan:

“The fact that she has two sides – that upscale, sophisticated Diane Sawyer spokesperson-y side, and then her crass, bitchy…side. I love that I get to play the two extremes.”

Cons of Being Out of the Coffin:

“As the spokesperson for the American Vampire League, I have to behave myself, and that is so boring. I have to tow the party line, though like many of my kind, I fall off the wagon every once in a while.”

Favorite True Blood scene?

“I had a couple of scenes with Alexander Skarsgård, where I got to say things like, “Listen, you whiny little bitch.” It just makes me laugh that he’s ten feet tall and could take me out with the flick of his finger, and I get to scream and yell and threaten him. I had a good time, giving him a piece of my mind.”

Team Eric or Team Bill?

“What do you mean? Where’s the option of Team Nan? I’m not on anyone’s team. They’re on mine… if they’re lucky.”

What do you think Nan will be up to in season four, Truebies? More of the same? Or will we maybe see a different side to the spokesperson?

True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård is Ready for Spandex

March 24, 2011

Skarsgård Is Tickled Pink about Season Four:

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard is ready to show off his body in season fourAlexander Skarsgård has confessed in the past to not having any problem whatsoever with nude scenes — thank Godric! The ridiculously hot Swede, who plays the ridiculously hot Viking Sherriff vampire Eric Northman on True Blood, spends a lot of time at the gym sculpting his god-like body into god-like proportions. Given the recent spoiler, we think he’s doing a great job. Even more exciting is to hear that Skarsgård is very much looking forward to donning pink spandex in season four:

“I’m very excited…about the spandex. I hope that will come soon…I might want to go to the gym before the spandex session.”

All of you hardcore Eric Northman fans will know that it’s in book two of the Sookie Stackhouse series that Eric wears the pink leggings to an orgy party. If Alan Ball wants to introduce spandex as part of season four’s wardrobe, we don’t think there will be any objections.

True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten Rocks the Mediocre

March 23, 2011

Kwanten Opens Up to The West Australian About His New Film

True Blood's Ryan Kwanten plays a not so typical superhero in his new filmThese are definitely the days of the superhero. It seems we’re introduced to a new screen superhero every few months, which is hardly surprising given the billion-dollar business of the Batman flicks and the X-Men franchise, but there’s a new kind of superhero emerging, one that’s a little less super and a bit more mediocre. A mediocre superhero like True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten’s Griff the Invisible.

Griff the Invisible is not your typical superhero movie. It didn’t have a huge budget, it doesn’t have crazy special effects, it doesn’t have over the top costumes, and it only took four weeks to film. Similar to Kick-Ass, whose production was financed independently since no major studio would go near some of its dark and seedy ideas, and The Green Hornet, directed by the uncontrollably imaginative Michel Gondry, Griff is the kind of movie anyone anywhere can relate to. Kwanten, who admitted to being approached by studio executives to play big superhero roles, saw something in Griff that he couldn’t ignore:

“What I liked about Griff was that he isn’t your average superhero. He is full of faults. But who’s to say his reality isn’t better or worse than ours?”

Griff the Invisible follows a sensitive and slightly eccentric young man who, by day, is something of a loner in your typical office environment, where he is either bullied or ignored. However, at night he watches for crime from his state-of-the-art set-up, before suiting up in costume to go to the rescue of whoever needs rescuing. But then, along comes oddball Melody (Maeve Dermody), who is so similar to Griff that it forces him to re-evaluate his life, his past, and his true identity. Our favorite True Blood hillbilly redneck (and Kwanten’s alter ego), Jason Stackhouse, definitely isn’t a superhero, but he did spend much of season four pretending to be a cop, which gave him a huge ego boost and a bit of a superhero swagger. Kwanten filmed Griff in-between seasons three and four, so maybe his stint as the mediocre superhero helped with Jason’s cop swagger.

Griff was shot in Sydney, Australia, allowing Kwanten time to reconnect with old friends and crash at his parent’s house, where he got to sleep on his “old squeaky single bed with the cheesy leopard print sheets”. Right now, life is pretty great for Kwanten. His schedule makes it easy for him to thrive as a breakout star of our favorite vamp drama, while having enough down time to pursue other roles:

“The beauty of it is that I get to explore characters like Griff and Shane from Red Hill in the off-season. It’s no rest for the wicked.”

It’s hard to imagine, but Kwanten’s detour into acting wasn’t intentional. His passion was of the athletic kind, whereas for his two younger brothers, it was of the artistic kind. But in a twist of fate, Kwanten was pulled into one of their auditions, and the rest is history. He spent the next several years playing Vinnie Patterson on Home and Away. Kwanten relates his journey:

“Acting was something I never intended to do. I have a business degree but acting was one of those things that kept knocking on my door. I finally got to a point where the roles slowly got bigger and meatier and I couldn’t deny it anymore. It got to that tipping point where I had to go that business route or take a chance on the acting caper. I asked myself which one would I regret the most and acting shone through.”

It wasn’t easy, either. Kwanten struggled and had a difficult time landing roles and acquiring leads, but it’s hard to deny his natural charm and incredible talent. After struggling for nearly a decade, his mantra, “the harder you work, the luckier you get” paid off.

Griff the Invisible hit theaters in Australia March 17th and is headed to the U.S. in June. Any Truebies seen it yet? Please let us know in the comment section below!

Sam Trammell Gushes about True Blood’s Comic Book Success

March 18, 2011

Trammell Talks to MTV about Why the Books Work

True Blood's Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) talks comic booksThere have been major accolades for the True Blood’ comic books since the first one debuted last year (and sold out in less than two months), some reviews claiming the books are top notch, a must read, and sexy as hell. Nearly every cast member has applauded the show’s comic book adaptation, and Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) spoke to MTV earlier this week and offered up yet another opinion:

“There are just so many characters and so many potential scenarios that could happen, it’s great to have a publication that explores different possible relationships and events. We don’t actually on the show have time to explore everything that can happen in Bon Temps.”

Just last week the first collection,All Together Now,” took a bite out of the #6 spot on the New York Time‘s best selling list, and the first book in the second series, True Blood: Tainted Love,” debuted last month to big sales.
