Janina Gavankar Talks About Luna’s Role in Season 6 of HBO’s True Blood

May 22, 2013

Severe Consequences for Luna’s Actions to Come in Season 6:

Janina Gavankar stars in HBO's True Blood

After skin-walking on national television, what will happen to shifter Luna? With no hint of her fate from the few clips that have been released of True Blood‘s sixth season, one can only imagine what has happened until the show’s premiere on June 16.

Actress Janina Gavankar only fuels the mystery on her character, commenting that her character’s move will make a big impact on her character’s species as a whole:

“She just outed everyone in the shifter community, so now the world knows there’s more than one supernatural creature on this earth. Holy. F**k. Imagine being a human watching that. As it is, you have to deal with the idea of there being vampires. This is potentially bad for every shifter on the planet. You remember when [the vampires] ‘came out of the coffin? It’s like restarting the series all over again for that supernatural group.”

Not only does she hint that Luna will be facing lots of trouble, but she also says that scene involving Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) brought her to tears.

“I wasn’t even in the shot with him — I was off to the side, like 100 feet away — and the stuff I could hear him doing was making me lose my mind. I was in a warm up tent 100 feet away, and I was crying. True Blood is A-game all day long. I have nothing but major love for him. I go so lucky that I got paired up with him. He’s tremendous.”

What was the scene? We can’t wait to see!

It has been announced that veteran character actor, John Fleck (Weeds, Bones) has been cast in this role.

The recurring guest role of Dr. Overlark has been described as 50 years old, and a ruthless advisor to Arliss Howard’s Governor Creighton Burrell. Cast as Dr. Overlark, John Fleck is a long-time character actor who has appeared in a wide array of television guest roles. True Blood’s Big Season 5 Finale And Upcoming Season 6 Hints! – Video:

October 9, 2012

HBO’s True Blood Creator Alan Ball and Director Michael Lehmann Discuss the Epic Episode and Season 6

Eric & Sookie S5

After seeing the thrilling, question-raising, True Blood Season 5 finale, I knew I wasn’t the only one to be sad when Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) met his unfortunate end at Eric Northman‘s (Alex Skarsgård) hands! True Blood creator Alan Ball gushes that writing the scene was “emotional” for himself as well:

“I get really upset when I write scenes where characters that I love die.”

Going on to express how hard it was to write, complimenting the spectacular portrayal by actor Denis O’Hare,  he also adds,

“…but it is True Blood, and he’s done some pretty heinous things.”

Ball knew Eric would have to be the one to do it since Russell had “destroyed Eric’s life” by originally killing his human family. He says:

“It’s blood vengeance. It’s primal, it’s mythic, and all of those things that can do well on a show like True Blood.”

Director Michael Lehmann also notes:

“It’s really fun and interesting that Sookie’s fear is what draws Eric there. That’s kind of a great moment, and that Eric comes in and completely surprises Russell in his moment of glory.”

With Season 6 in the future, Ball hints that questions raised in Season 5 will be addressed, including more information about Warlow and how Jason will deal with it.

As for the big final moment with Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and the blood in the Season 5 finale, Ball explains it as:

“a gigantic challenge for Sookie, because for all intents and purposes, she sees him die and then be reborn as something alien and terrifying.”

Lehmann points out that “it’s pretty clear where Eric is emotionally and where he stands.” However, he wonders most about Bill, since “he went so dark at the end of this episode.

Stay tuned for True Blood Season 6 to find out!

Inside True Blood Teases Fans About Season 5 Finale

July 27, 2012

Blog for HBO’s Series True Blood Reports What Was Overheard On Set

Internet blog, Inside True Blood, posted some possible teasers for the Season 5 finale of the HBO series. On June 10, 2012, the day the first episode of Season 5 aired, the cast and crew of True Blood were preparing to film the season finale. Blogger Gianna Sobel posted about the work being done.

After posting that the finale was going to be ‘crazy’, Ms. Sobel shared some of the things that were overheard during the prep meeting for the finale.

The tamest of the statements was, “It sounds like I’m going to need to get some torsos and some heads”. Fans are probably aware that is typical for an episode of True Blood. However, “We do have latex codpieces, they only take 20 minutes to apply” has some interesting implications. Finally, “I would deluge her completely in blood. She’s exploding! The blood would go everywhere. We should be prepared to throw a couple of body parts at her”. Any guesses on who or what that might be about?

The Vampires of True Blood Have a Problem with Authority

July 5, 2012

Facing Threats From All Directions, Will the Vampire Authority Always Win?

The Mellencamp jokes abound in the aftermath of HBO’s broadcast of the third episode of Season 5 of True Blood. Chris Meloni made his long-awaited appearance as Roman Zimojic, and viewers were introduced to the characters who make up the body of the Authority. Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) and Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) might be viewed as an external threat to the Authority’s authority, but fans have begun to learn the greatest threat might be an internal one.

Alan Ball has said that Season 5 of True Blood would be a reflection of the current state of America’s political battle between extreme religion and secularism. Episode 3 revealed that the Authority will be the vehicle used to present that battle. Roman, as head of the Authority, is the Guardian of the blood of Lilith, and is the main architect of Mainstreaming. Among the seven Chancellors, there is a faction known as Sanguinistas. These are literal and rigidly dogmatic vampires who believe humans are meant to be cultivated as food.

The Authority: The First. The Last. The Eternal:

For an inside peek at The Authority check out HBO’s Inside True Blood Blog which sports a video titled “The Authority: The First. The Last. The Eternal”. The video is filled with scenes from the episode, as well as interviews with cast and crew. The interviews shed light on events viewers have already seen, and hints at exciting things yet to come. It’s entertaining and well worth the watch.  On the more humorous side is Jessica’s video blog featuring her new BFF, Ginger. The socially awkward baby vamp and the consummate fangbanger discuss cutting edge fashion for the daring vampire. Nothing that leads to Jessica planning to purchase a ‘bandage dress’ on Bill’s credit card can be good. Check out the video below!

Video: HBO Keeps True Blood Fans Eager For Season 5 with Teaser Clips

May 29, 2012

Waiting Sucks and HBO Keeps Fans Wanting More:

Season 5 poster RomanEarly in the life of its series True Blood, HBO hit upon the simple but clever tag line of ‘Waiting Sucks’. Now, as anticipation over the June 10th premiere of Season 5 grows, fans find that they ‘Crave More’. HBO has fueled the excitement with titillating teaser videos; some provide glimpses behind the scenes, while others are simply humorous promotion.

Two recently released teasers provide peeks into two separate story lines. Both videos give hints as to what to expect from characters and plot, while still managing to raise additional questions that make fans eager to tune in to the show.

One of these two recent videos features Sam (Sam Trammell) and Luna (Janina Gavankar). Sitting on a sofa, Luna cries while Sam tries to lend comfort. The dialog tells fans that someone has died mysteriously. An unexpected, unidentified sound captures their attention just as the scene ends on a menacing note. Who died? How did they die? Are Sam and Luna in danger, too? What was that sound?

What do you think?

Another recent teaser video has Terry (Todd Lowe) and Patrick (Scott Foley) being held at gunpoint and handcuffed. They know this person, but fans don’t – yet. The scene ends with the unknown character asking if anything had followed them there. Who is the new character? Why is he cuffing Patrick and Terry? What is it that might have followed them?

Any guesses?

HBO also uses humor in its teaser videos. ‘Don’t Cry, It’s Back’ uses bloody tears and scenes of character anguish to promote Season 5. The video is a montage of True Blood characters crying. The clips are assembled in a way that makes it seem they are sad over the lack of new True Blood episodes.

Which one is your favorite?

Behind the Scenes: Dragging to the True Blood Season 5 Finale

May 25, 2012

What a Drag:

I know what you’re thinking, “The season hasn’t even started yet. Why are you talking about the finale?!” Well, thanks to a Behind the Scenes photo posted on HBO‘s Inside True Blood Blog, True Blood writer Angela Robinson has given us a brief look at the finale. Accoring to Robinson, “We’re breaking the finale, but that’s all I can say!”

Shooting the Season 5 Finale

Also taking place BTS is a lesson on drag. No, not that kind of drag. As seen below, executive producer Gregg Feinberg and stunt coordinator Hiro Koda are demonstrating to other crew members how to properly drag someone by the foot. One hint provided is that one of the men is standing in for Alcide. I hardly think Alcide would take that lying down.

Gregg Feinberg and Hiro Koda-What a Drag

It’s shaping up to be quite an interesting season!
