True Blood’s Pam Dishes on the Upcoming Season

January 19, 2012

Need Another Reason to Look Forward to Season 5?

Alexander Skarsgård and Kristin Bauer van StratenIf you are anything like me and my friends, one of your favorite things about True Blood is Pam‘s great one liners. Between her and Lafayette there are plenty of great quotes throughout each season. E! Online sat down with Kristin Bauer van Straten to talk about the upcoming season and what’s in store for her character.

Though she was reluctant to reveal any plot details concerning the new season, Bauer still gave Pam fans plenty to look forward to. She gushed:

“Every script I get I go, ‘Oh my god, that’s better than I thought it would be.’ And wardrobe fittings, ‘Oh my god, that’s better than I could have imagined.’”

When you see one of the show’s actors this excited about things to come, you can’t help but to feel some of that energy and excitement. Bauer also spoke about working with Alexander Skarsgård, the sexy Eric Northman, and if his increasing fame has changed him at all. She spoke of Skarsgård’s fame, saying:

“He’s the same guy…We’re buddies. But watch I’ll go watch the movies and then get starstruck all of a sudden.”

Good to hear that he is still the same down to earth guy.

Though Bauer didn’t give away any plot point from the upcoming season, in my opinion that’s a good thing. That way we can all be shocked by those OMG neck twisting sex moments we all love!

Does Alexander Skarsgård Get Fatherly Advice?

January 15, 2012

Stellan Skarsgård Speaks Briefly About His Son’s Career:

Alexander and Stellan Skarsgård in MelancholiaStellan Skarsgård (father of True Blood’s sexy viking vampire, Alexander Skarsgård, otherwise known as Eric Northman) sat down with Mike Ryan of MovieFone.com to talk about his roles in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Thor, his dissatisfaction with The Avengers and his apparently famous scarf in Good Will Hunting.  During the interview he stated:

“I never help my kids and I never encourage them and I never give them any advice.”

He thinks it’s up to them to make a name for themselves.  I found his laissez-faire attitude kind of surprising when you think about other celebrity families who have successful parents whose children also become famous.

Speaking of famous children, he shares his guess as to how his son, Alexander Skarsgård, came to be known in the States, by way of his role in Zoolander:

“Yeah. I wasn’t even involved in it. So he probably met my agent and that’s how it happened — and suddenly he’s on fire at a gas station.”

Skarsgård also mentioned that he doesn’t keep up with the True Blood seasons.  He tunes in every once in awhile, enjoys the writing, but doesn’t have time to follow it.  This came as another surprise to me considering the show’s obsessive fan base.  I think it’s a bit funny that I watch the show religiously, but the father of one of the main actors couldn’t care less.  At least that was my impression. Although he does think:

“It’s very well written. And I think Alexander is having a lot of fun doing it.”

Truebies, check out the interview here and let me know if you agree with my conclusions in the comments section!

True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård at Hamptons Film Fest

December 6, 2011

Skarsgård Talks Straw Dogs and Melancholia:

Alexander Skarsgård at the Hamptons Film Festival 2011Alexander Skarsgård, who plays vampire sheriff Eric Northman on HBO’s True Blood, stopped by the Hamptons International Film Festival to promote his latest film, Melancholia.

Skarsgård plays Michael, a man newly married to a woman who is overcome with depression on their wedding day. Coincidentally a giant planet is about collide with Earth.

Alexander Skarsgård was also quick to defend Melancholia director Lars von Trier, who has received some bad press lately. Skarsgård explained that the movie was strong enough by itself to draw people back to it, rather than comments made by von Trier.

On the professional dynamic in the Skarsgård family:

“Well, I’m 14 years older than [brother] Bill, and my brother Gus, we’re quite different. We usually don’t go after the same parts. So I wouldn’t say it’s competitive. But we do talk a lot about work, and we do encourage each other and try to keep each other motivated.”

Skarsgård’s take on the reception Straw Dogs got, and whether he’s seen it:

“I don’t know. I don’t read reviews, so… I don’t like knowing.”

“Yeah! Yeah, I’ve seen it [Straw Dogs.] I’m happy with it! I think it’s good, and I’m happy with my part.”

But he still doesn’t read reviews. And guess what Truebies? He doesn’t even read the positive ones!

Winning the Heart of True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård

November 29, 2011

ASkar Gives Us a How-To in December’s Elle UK:

Alexander Skarsgård Elle UKLadies –and all delusional queers like myself– apparently all you need to do to win over this heart-throb is compliment his acting (instead of his indubitable good looks.  According to Skarsgård, “Vanity is suicide for an actor.  Your creativity will die if you focus on looking good”) and obsess over the Hammarby Fotboll Club.  (I’m Googling all things Hammarby in the adjacent browser tab as I write this… Swedish soccer players, you say? Double-yum.)

Skarsgård is featured next month in Elle UK and writer Tim Teeman sat down with the Nordic god-of-a-man for the interview.  In it, readers can relish in the actor’s mini-bio details, e.g. he started acting at age 7 but didn’t appreciate the overzealous attention he received after The Dog That Smiled.  From there he joined the Swedish Royal Navy for a year and a half, toyed briefly with the idea of becoming an architect at Leeds Metropolitan University (but spent most of his time drinking instead of studying) before deciding to return to acting.  His big break came from Zoolander, but his major fame has stemmed from his role as Eric Northman on HBO‘s True Blood.

He’s not only gracing the small screen (i.e. Generation Kill, 2008 mini-series) with his talents, though.  His film career is w(h)etting our –let’s say– appetites, as well.  Most recently released, in Straw Dogs, Skarsgård plays a tenacious, rural ex-boyfriend.  His object of obsession and tight-grip is on urban Kate Bosworth‘s (who Skarsgård dated through July ’11) character who is involved with the character played by James Marsden.  The film is a remake of a 1971 movie of the same name and includes a powerful and violent rape scene between Skarsgård and Bosworth’s character that was “tough for us all.”  Before that but also released this year, he played in Melancholia with Kiefer Sutherland, Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg.  He just wrapped up filming an adaptation of Henry James’ What Maisie Knew this summer.

About his personal love life, the 35 year-old Swede is not stressing.  He likes being in relationships and he likes being single.  He says that it’s possible to be happy or miserable in either situation, but obviously he’d rather be happy.  He loves cooking, traveling, and because he comes from a family with six younger siblings, eventually wants kids.  He says that a lot of girls want him to bite them (no surprise there… I’d let him take a chomp of anything of mine) but, “I can’t [bite them] because I’ll end up doing it for the next thirty years.  There will be no biting,” he says. (Darnitall!)  However, the message he does want to send to all Elle readers: “Tell them I will marry them all.” So that’s it, I’m moving to California where it’s legal.

So Truebies: if you can get your hands on Elle UK, do it! You can check out the linked interview here, or click on the pictures below for the full story and let us know what you think in our comments section!

Spoiler – Casting Call for Season 5 of True Blood

October 29, 2011

Alan Ball Needs Two Female Actors:

Alexander Skarsgård as EricSo you love True Blood? And you think you can act? Well, HBO and Alan Ball are on the hunt for two new strong female vampire roles. Nudity is a possibility – but would we expect anything less of True Blood?

The first role calls for a female between the ages of 25 and 35. The character’s name is Nora and she is a progeny of Godric’s, so there should be a few juicy scenes alongside the awesome Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård).

The second role is something to really sink your teeth into (pun intended). If you are a fan of the Bible, then her name will be familiar. She is the daughter of Herodias from the New Testament. Yes, her name is Salome! In Season 5, Salome will be a powerful and very ancient vampire – something that was kept out of the Bible, for obvious reasons. She is also just a little bit crazy.

So, if you think you’ve got what it takes, then now is the time to audition for your part on True Blood. (Unfortunately, we can’t help you with that!)

Skarsgård and Melancholia Cast Interview at The Film Stage

October 26, 2011

Cast Discuss Lars von Trier’s New Movie:

Alexander Skarsgard Melancholia movie promotional posterWhen it comes to wanting to work for famous directors, Lars von Trier is right up there on the list. While he may be a little more free when it comes to rehearsals and scripts, he certainly wins hands down when it comes to experiencing a movie from a completely different angle, as far as the actors are concerned. As Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman on HBO‘s True Blood) pointed out:

“You’re kind of used to working where you block a scene, then you have tape marks and then you shoot a master and the lights are coming from here and you got to find that light. And then you show up and he’s just like ‘Alright, let’s see what happens…’ He doesn’t care about continuity, he’s so open and he wants to be surprised. He wants to be like ‘Oh, that was interesting, I didn’t expect that to happen’… you kind of feel like he’s editing it in his head as he’s watching it… and then if there’s something he needs then he’ll come in and he’ll just whisper something like try this and try that. It really was one of the most amazing experiences of my career.”

Skarsgård also went on to point out that while a lot of what happens during the shoot is actually just a big diaster, there are those special little moments that just can’t be recreated through rehearsal. It is those small bits of reality that von Trier appears to search for. As a result of this, while the whole movie is scripted, some of what makes it to the screen is, in fact, improvisation.

The subject of depression is a big part of the movie Melancholia. While the movie starts off in a happy place, it quickly spirals downhill from there. The actors themselves felt that this was needed — after all, it is hard to show how dark life can get without first showing how it all started.

Not only did Skarsgård relish working for von Trier, he also got to work alongside his father, fellow actor, Stellan Skarsgård. His father had also worked with von Trier before, and while he needed no encouragement to work with the famous director, his father was quick to endorse it. Fellow actor, Charlotte Gainsbourg was also familiar with working with von Trier, after appearing in Antichrist, however, she found each movie entirely different to make.

Kirsten Dunst, who stars in Melancholia as Skarsgård’s wife, was also excited about this project. While it seems a vast difference from the movies she normally does, Dunst didn’t seem to think so:

“I’ve always done a mixture, like I did The Virgin Suicides, but then I did Bring It On. To me, I’ve always mixed it up, so this is just an opportunity because of my age, too, and there aren’t that many roles like this that are so unconventional for women. To me it’s not a new direction personally, it just is the movie I chose to do next.”

Melancholia is basically a movie about depression, the cast were quick to point out (and if you don’t want any spoilers for the movie, please don’t read the full interview at The Film Stage) that this movie could also be considered science fiction. The actors themselves find it hard to discuss the film, since it is not an easy movie to compartmentalize.

The Film Stage were also interested to find out if any of the actors were interested in directing after working with Lars von Trier. Both Alexander Skarsgård and Kirsten Dunst admitted that they had done some directing on small projects in the past. While Skarsgård would like to do more in the future, it seems that Dunst enjoyed what she has done in the past, but feels more comfortable in front of the camera. Gainsbourg freely admitted to being intimidated by the whole process of directing.

Melancholia is screening at the New York Film Festival, so make sure you check it out if you are nearby. If not, it hits theaters on November 11. Let us know what you thought of the movie when you see it.
