COMIC CON 2014: True Blood Cast Hints at a ‘Not Happily Ever After’

July 29, 2014

Are Eric and Pam True Blood’s Version of ‘True Love’ Then?

True to the End HBO True Blood Season 7 promo posterLast weekend at San Diego’s Comic Con 2014, Zap2It got to talk to the cast of HBO’s True Blood about things such as true love and happy ends and do they exist in the Sookieverse. So how do the residents of Bon Temps and Shreveport view love in this TV series?

According to Kristin Bauer van Straten, who plays vampire Pam, she feels her character’s relationship with her maker, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) transcends the idyllic notion of true love – after all they have been together for more than a hundred years. She suggests that their love is perfect and unconditional after all their time together.

Nelsan Ellis (who plays the flamboyant Lafayette Reynolds) thinks that his character could definitely find true love. And then immediately backs it up with a ‘but we’ll have to wait and see‘ stock response. Chris Bauer (Andy Bellefleur), on the other hand, believes his character has come to forgive vampires and has had the realization that vendettas are actually pointless. Once he discovers this, he also finds out that he is no longer alone in this word any more.

As for Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler-Bellefleur) and Anna Camp (who plays god-shopper and resident baddie, Sarah Newlin), both women agree that Arlene could possibly be the only person who could talk some sense into Sarah. But apparently the pair never get a scene together, so it is a moot point. Although, this would indicate that Sarah Newlin’s story line could be held entirely in Dallas for this final season. And what a shame too, that is one southern scrag fight I would have loved to see!

Stephen Moyer’s (who plays vampire Bill Compton who is currently suffering from an accelerated dose of Hep-V) words are possibly the most telling though. When asked about whether there will be a happy ending for anyone in True Blood Season 7, his reply was:

I’m not sure that’s how Alan Ball conceived things. Even though Alan’s not running the show any more, happily ever after is something that we have always known on our show that as soon as something good happens to a character, something bad is about to happen. So, do you ever know? Are they ever happy? I don’t know.

Carrie Preston: Being Arlene and Returning to HBO After True Blood

July 20, 2014

Find Out What Carrie Preston Thought of Arlene’s Death Experience:

Carrie Preston stars as Arlene Fowler-Bellefleur in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 4 (entitled 'Death is not the End')For fans of Arlene Fowler-Bellefleur (Carrie Preston), things got a little scary in last week’s episode (entitled Death is not the End) with the redheaded waitress nearly dying after becoming a feast for Hep-V infected vampires! For actor Carrie Preston, though, it was more exciting to see the return of her onscreen love, Terry Bellefleur (Todd Lowe):

I was most surprised and excited about Terry coming back, because obviously I love Todd [Lowe]. We’ve kept up, but it’s not the same as having him on set. I also thought the episode does a great job of giving Arlene this major obstacle: What makes her want to come back? Because Arlene dies, we definitely decided that—it wasn’t like she was on the brink of death, she actually goes. It’s Terry who encourages her to go back.

While we were all terrified we were witnessing the demise of yet another of our favorite characters, Carrie was glad to see that Arlene and Terry got some sort of closure:

[It was good] to have a moment of closure between Arlene and Terry, because when he died, it was so quick and sudden and tragic that it was really nice to have a little coda between them.

But, in order for Arlene to be saved, she had to drink the blood of vampire Keith (Riley Smith). And we all know what that means – sex dreams! While Riley Smith recently denied a full blown romance between them in Season 7, Carrie had the following to say about getting blood from a vampire:

I thought, “Okay, you don’t introduce an entire new vampire without having some kind of follow-up.” I was curious what that was going to be, and I hope that the fans will remain curious. Riley is sweet, and he jumped right in.

she told Entertainment Weekly recently. She also went on to say that she was certainly glad to rid of the dress she wore for the first four episodes of Season 7. But, as far as Bon Temps and Arlene is concerned, there is still another six episodes to go before the town can get any semblance of normal back.

And what then?

Well, we will still be able to catch up with her on HBO, thanks to her upcoming appearance on Getting On:

I’m going to be doing a guest spot on Getting On. I start shooting that in a couple of weeks. I’m hoping I can get another show. I really love doing TV. I got my fingers crossed that I get a regular gig on another show.

Well, isn’t that great news? Let me know your thoughts by commenting below!

True Blood Season 7: Carrie Preston Talks About De-Fellatio

July 5, 2014

Arlene Fowler and Betty get Personal:

Carrie Preston stars as Arlene Fowler in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 2 entitled 'I Found You'Many fans of HBO’s True Blood were intrigued by the death of vampire Betty in Episode 2 (entitled I Found You) of True Blood Season 7. It seemed they were wondering whether Betty died because of an accelerated version of Hep-V or whether she possibly died because of something special in Arlene Fowler’s (Carrie Preston) blood.

Besides this dilemma, how did HBO even go about getting a person to explode while drinking blood from the femoral artery of Arlene? It seems Carrie Preston was happy to spill the beans in that department:

It’s a practical effect that actually happened between my legs,” she said with a laugh. “I ended up calling that doll De-fellatio [Laughs]—lady between my legs! I don’t know if you can print that, but that’s what I called her. De-fellatio remains very much part of that scene and it gets very scary, it gets very scary as the next couple of episodes are pretty terrifying…These Hep-V vampires are no joke…[T]hey’re still vampires and even though they’re weak, they’re still vampires and they’re stronger than humans.

While the mechanics of this scene is quite hilarious to think about, Carrie then goes on to drop the following bombshell:

The carnage does not end after episode two.

Oh. No.

Let us know your thoughts on just how bad it could get for Arlene and the others in the basement of Fangtasia by commenting below!

Carrie Preston Talks About the Challenges Ahead for Arlene in True Blood Season 7

July 3, 2014

Will Arlene Fowler be Able to Find Her Happy Ending in HBO’s True Blood?

Carrie Preston stars as Arlene Fowler Bellefleur in HBO's True Blood Season 7Fans of HBO’s True Blood are a little concerned about how the story line will wind up for Arlene Fowler-Bellefleur in HBO’s True Blood Season 7. And it seems that the actor who plays Arlene, Carrie Preston, is not a huge fan of happy endings, so now should we be really worried for Arlene? Carrie has this to say to TVLine recently:

I feel like there’s no such thing as a happy ending if you want to have a good conflict and all those ingredients that create good tension. I wouldn’t say that Breaking Bad had a happy ending. However, I was very satisfied with it. There was a lot of controversy about that ending and I thought that was great because I feel like if people aren’t talking about something and they’re passionate about it and there’s good, healthy, excited conversation about it, then we have done our jobs and so I’m hoping that that will be the case with True Blood, that people will be invested in it and have a dialogue about it and feel passionate about it.

But she did promise that Arlene would certainly rise to the challenges ahead in the upcoming episodes of True Blood, that she certainly is too strong a character to quit. And it’s a trait that Preston is proud of. The actor claims that it is Arlene’s ability to keep going, even when presented with what appears to be insurmountable obstacles that she personally aspires to.

And what of all that blood and gore – how does Carrie Preston cope with that?

Well, I’m on a very tame show compared to all of my other colleagues. I really haven’t had to encounter that much of that since I don’t traffic in the world of the vampires. That said, you know the season’s not over yet. So you can talk to me about it at the end of the season and I’ll probably have a little more to say.

VIDEO: True Blood Season 7 Premiere #TrueToTheEnd

June 18, 2014

True Blood Cast – Past and Present – Walk the Red Carpet:

True Blood Season 7 Red carpet event Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer #TrueBloodToTheEndWith only a few days to go until the premiere on HBO of True Blood Season 7, fans are in for a much needed treat: the red carpet premiere event! Trubies around the globe are lamenting the fact this will be the VERY LAST red carpet premiere event. But, with this sadness, there is still excitement. While most fans couldn’t attend the event – even from the sidelines – let TrueBloodNet fill you in on what went down!

While many of the cast members including Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse), Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton), Sam Trammell (Sam), Joe Manganiello (Alcide), Rutina Wesley (Tara), Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica), Ryan Kwanten (Jason), and Chris Bauer (Andy) turned up at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, a notable exception was – once again – Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman). However, this was to be expected. This is not because HBO are keeping him under tight wraps until his story line is resolved (involving that full frontal suntanning incident in True Blood Season 6), but because his is currently in London for the movie, Tarzan.

ExtraTV was on hand during the premiere event and you can watch their video interviews below:

What I found the most interesting with these videos is something Anna Paquin said: while the story line for True Blood Season 7 has been written, scenes are still being shot – so does this mean that things may change still? Only time will tell!

Something else interesting that popped up during the red carpet event was the appearance of Janina Gavankar and Michael MacMillian. Janina’s character, Luna Garza, died in Season 6, so why was she at the Season 7 event? Perhaps Luna will be one of the characters promised to return this season? Michael’s character, Steve Newlin was another character who didn’t survive Season 6, and with his wife, Sarah Newlin (played by Anna Camp), still alive and kicking could there be more to his story line as well?

As well as posing for pictures, many of the cast posed with a placard displaying the hashtag #TrueToTheEnd – do you think True Blood Season 7 will remain true to the end? Let us know in the comments below!

Finally, you can view all the Twitter and Instagram shots taken during the event  by the stars themselves in the photo gallery below.

Carrie Preston: How it Should End for Arlene in True Blood

October 23, 2013

Carrie Preston Talks to OK Magazine About Her Alter Ego, Arlene:

Carrie Preston stars as Arlene Fowler-Bellefleur in HBO's True BloodIn HBO’s True Blood Season 4, we saw Arlene Fowler-Bellefleur (played by Carrie Preston) lose the love of her life, Terry Bellefleur (Todd Lowe). This, however, bought her an unexpected windfall of cash. Using her head, she invested this money wisely by buying Merlotte’s and renaming it Bellefleurs (much to many a Truebie’s disgust).

Recently Carrie Preston chatted to OK! Magazine about how she would like to see Arlene’s story play out in the final season of True Blood next year. The actress was already impressed with how Arlene’s life had changed in Season 6, but had this to follow up with:

My hope for her would be to see that she continues to grow into this self-sufficient women who is okay with not having a man in her life, and gives herself proper time to grieve for the love of her life, who has only just been lost. I hope they stick with that. I hope they don’t put another romance in there. It would be nice to just have her be a single mother and a powerful woman with a business.

While Preston is happy for Arlene to stay a stable constant in Season 7, she is also happy to see Arlene kick some more butt after her run in with Scott Foley (who played Patrick, the man who ultimately shot and killed her on-screen husband, Terry):

I got to stab him in the neck with a pencil and then pull a gun out. That was my Clint Eastwood moment. I was very happy about that.

While Preston is having a ball playing Arlene, with the ultimate end of True Blood in 2014, she is also a little saddened about the end of an era. When asked is there was anything she would like to keep from the set of True Blood, she had this to say:

If anything I would want to grab something from the Merlotte’s set, even if it is just like one of the pool balls. Or there are all these photos that are stuck up in the back in the bar that nobody really sees, but there are really cool photos of like Alan Ball standing with Charlaine Harris that has been on the set from the beginning. Just little inside stuff like that.

Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler-Belleflier in HBO's True Blood) asks fans to help fund her series, 'Darwin'

Carrie Preston also released the following statement on why you should help fund Darwin:

I felt inspired to bring DARWIN to the screen because I fell in love with the very flawed, wonderfully specific and heartbreakingly funny characters. I wanted to take the elevated language in the script and match it with a directing style that was equally heightened. So I created a palate of shots and points of view that allow the audience to find intimacy with the characters and at the same time experience the slightly off-kilter nature of them.

Fans who help out via the KickStarter campaign not only get the sense of achievement gained from helping the cast and crew get this series finished, but the other incentives also include:

  • a digital download of Season 1
  • access to premium content on the Darwin website
  • a limited edition postcard signed by Carrie Preston
  • a personalized Facebook thank you video from the cast
  • a personalized shout out on Twitter from two time Tony nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger
  • a Twitter shout out from Hemlock Grove’s Dr. Johann Price (played by Joel de la Fuente)
  • for True Blood fans, Carrie Preston will give a person shout out while on set!

True Blood’s Carrie Preston Talks Out About True Blood Season 7

September 23, 2013

‘We all knew it was coming’:

Carrie Preston stars as Arlene Fowler Bellefleur in HBO's True Blood Season 6

Fans of HBO’s True Blood were shocked when Brian Buckner announced at the start of the month that the long running vampire series would end in 2014 with Season 7.

So how did the True Blood actors react?

According to actor Carrie Preston (who plays the fiery redhead Merlotte’s waitress, Arlene Fowler-Bellefluer), it wasn’t such a huge shock when Brian Buckner sent them an email about the show’s demise:

We were all suspecting it, because all of our contracts were up so they did a renegotiation for one more year and so we thought, ‘Oh, it’s coming.’ But then when you hear it, it’s like, ‘Oh!,’ this pang.

Even though the cast were expecting it, doesn’t mean it will be easy to turn up on set for True Blood Season 7. And those last few days will probably be even harder on the cast and crew. Preston explains:

I think we’re going to be counting our blessings and really trying to make the most of every moment.

Of course truebie fans aren’t going down without a fight; a ‘Don’t Cancel True Blood petition has already started. Fans can like the Facebook page (which already has over 3,000 likes) and then sign the petition here. The petition also has a strong following with close to 4,000 signatures already.

What do you think? Should True Blood be back for Season 8 (and beyond), or it it time for it to end gracefully? Let us know in the comments below.
