Here is a first look at the official trailer from the movie which is set to be released September 24, 2010.

Ryan Kwanten’s Film Changes Name

March 4, 2010

Ryan Kwanten fans take note.  If you are anticipating the upcoming release of his animated film, Guardians of Ga’Hoole, you may be surprised to find it will now be released as Legend of the Guardians.  Why the change, you ask?  Heat Vision Blog, who posted the name change, speculated that “Ga’Hoole” was not familiar enough to potential viewers.

“Flame on!” Ryan Kwanten as the Human Torch?

February 28, 2010

On comicbookmovie.com, fansite member LEEE777 posted his opinions on who he’d re-cast for the “Fantastic Four ” movie.

Based on the comic book character, super hero Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), in addition to flying, has the powers of generating flames and surrounding himself with them.

“He can engulf his entire body in flames, is able to fly, can absorb fire harmlessly into his own body and can control any nearby fire by sheer force of will. “Flame on!”, which the Torch customarily shouts when activating his full-body flame effect, has become his catchphrase.”

Stating that, when compared to his beautiful and compassionate sister, Johnny Storm is brash and impetuous, perhaps LEEE777 had in mind Ryan Kwanten in his “True Blood” role as Jason Stackhouse when he wrote, “No brainer really, Ryan is Human Torch.”

Should there ever be a remake of “Fantastic Four,” fans would probably find Ryan a very believable human torch.  Flame on!

Ryan Kwanten Discusses His Athletic Lifestyle

February 24, 2010

Vampires are effortlessly good looking-perfect skin, immaculate hair, and as True Blood fans know only too well, chiseled bodies. For the non-vampire crowd, a healthy diet and exercise regimen is needed to achieve the same results. Ryan Kwanten, who plays one of our favorite non-vampires, Jason Stackhouse,  sat down with Get Active to discuss his athletic lifestyle.

Australian-born Ryan has always led an extremely active lifestyle, and was already a welterweight champion by the time he was a teenager. After moving to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career, Ryan continued his athletic training and won the L.A. Biathlon in 2006 and 2007, qualifying him for the world championships in Sweden and Italy, which he missed due to his busy filming schedule.

With True Blood currently filming season 3 in Los Angeles, Ryan finds whatever time possible to squeeze in a workout.

“No matter the time, even if I have to wake up at four, I do whatever [exercise] I can. If I don’t then I’m not me.”

His workout regimen combines cardio, weightlifting, and Vinyasa yoga to keep his physical activity diverse. Ryan describes his interest in yoga as something that caught him by surprise after seeing the flexibility of other Vinyasa yoga students at his health club. Mastering Vinyasa yoga quickly became another goal in his highly ambitious lifestyle.

“I’m sort of naturally competitive, so once I sink my teeth into something I’m not going to let go.”

Although we might not see Ryan “sink his teeth” into anything (or anyone) in season 3, we can definitely expect to see Ryan’s character, Jason Stackhouse, make his body look just as effortless as any of our favorite True Blood vampires.

Ryan Kwanten’s Red Hill Gets High Praise at The Berlin Film Festival

February 16, 2010

Ryan Kwanten’s new movie, Red Hill, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival to rave reviews. The first of the reviews was incredibly short, but positive:

RED HILL is a good, tense contemporary Western. Traditional in tone – a satisfying, stylish thriller.

After seeing Red Hill, a writer for the Boston Herald caught up with Ryan Kwanten and interviewed him about Red Hill (which is described as a mix of “monster movie and revenge drama,” as well as being very violent) and True Blood. Ryan only had praise for his True Blood family, as they accommodated his schedule to allow him to make the low-budget movie, which was shot in only four weeks. For Red Hill, Ryan had to dye his hair black and start shooting the day he arrived on the set of Red Hill.

In the movie, Ryan’s character is a lawman who searching for a prison escapee who wants revenge on the gang that got him behind bars. Apparently, there is also a subplot about the panthers that live up in hills surrounding the town of Red Hill, and they cause a bit of carnage as well.

Either way, the movie is described as having two sets of monsters: those with two legs and those with four.

For all you Ryan lovers and horror fans out there, the early reviews make Red Hill sound like an absolutely thrilling ride.

Ryan Kwanten Describes Life and Work Since True Blood

February 16, 2010

A complete departure from his character, the dim-witted Jason Stackhouse, Australian actor Ryan Kwanten is more of a thoughtful, reserved kind of guy. In an interview with the German website, myFanbase, he sheds some light on Jason’s journey, how he deals with fame, and what it’s like to work on True Blood.

Ryan finds it “electrifying” to play Jason, a guy who acts without thinking. The drastic change from lots of women and a V addiction in Season one to a church camp boy in Season two was quite jarring for Ryan. Once he saw how executive producer Alan Ball and the writers were taking him, he saw that it was the best progression for his character. He believes that Jason has grown up after the experiences he’s had in the past couple of seasons, but he may not necessarily become any wiser. At his core, he’s still Jason–he’ll do and say whatever he feels.

When the role calls for it, Ryan has no qualms about doing nude scenes. He notes that the Australian culture he grew up in was more open-minded than America, but he also appreciates that there was more to those scenes than the sex. It was about Jason looking for something:

“I think that’s the beauty of working for HBO and particularly with Alan Ball, the fact that it’s not just shock for shock value or gore or nudity for the sake of showing skin. It always has a certain subtext or a specific story point that they are going towards. I also think it shows Jason’s vulnerability even though he may be very comfortable with his body and with women and all that, it shows that he’s searching for a sense of belonging.”

When asked about the popularity of True Blood, Ryan talks about how those working on the show knew all along that it was something special, but it was nice when things took off. The number of fans and their passion for the series just kept growing, which is thrilling for him. As many of the actors have expressed, Ryan is surprised by the incredible diversity of their viewership, spanning demographics. It just goes to show that there are so many characters and stories to relate to, everyone can find something they love.

Ryan also offers a nice perspective on his career and where it has led him:

“I’d like to believe that every role sort of led me to where I am and made me a better actor and a better person…Alan said in an interview that he saw the family movie Flicka and thought, ‘Oh, this is sort of like a G-rated Jason!’ So you never know what life is going to hand you and it’s proof that you have to make the best of every opportunity.”

Since True Blood, he says that doors are opening for him more easily, which is nice after years of working so hard to get roles. Part of being an actor is the public recognition, and Ryan, reserved as he is, insists that he doesn’t mind. He takes pride in his work and says he loves the journey of acting, with everything that it includes. These days, he gets lots of attention for True Blood, and people seem shocked to find a very different person than Jason Stackhouse:

“If they don’t know a lot about me, they’re quite surprised that I’m not from Louisiana. I’ve had a couple people insist that I was putting on this accent for another rolled. I said, ‘No, I hate to disappoint you but I’m Australian!’ “

He took the break in filming before Season three to return to his beloved homeland to shoot a couple of movies like Griff the Invisible and Red Hill. Now he’s back in L.A. and developing the character of Jason in what will surely be surprising and fascinating ways!
