True Blood’s Stephen Moyer Talks Candidly About Season 4

October 25, 2011

Moyer Talks Up the Show, His Coworkers, and Wife:

Stephen Moyer HBO promo S4When Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) first received the script for True Blood, he thought “Holy f**k, this is fantastic.  [It is] beautifully written [and] funny.”  He tells the Bajan Reporter what most audiences already understand to be the greatness of the show: that “there’s a lot going on underneath if you want there to be.”  Moyer also graciously commends the supporting actors like Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse), Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte), Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette Reynolds), and Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler) for their work on the show.

Moyer loves the depth offered by Bill Compton’s character. He enjoys the opportunity to take on the varying roles that Bill has inhabited over his centuries-old existence, like a 1920s nightclub entertainer or a punk-rocker in 1980s London.  From the books by Charlaine Harris, Moyer noted that Andy Bellefleur (played by Chris Bauer) is in fact Bill’s great great great grandson and he looks forward to a possible (albeit hilarious) line of subplot.

When asked about Bill and Sookie‘s breakup at the end of Season 3, he points out that Alan Ball resolves characters’ happiness with conflict. “You can’t watch two people be happy together for too long.”  This simple idiom seems to permeate every character’s interactions. Bill and Sookie’s synergy is no exception to the rule.  After their breakup, “there are a couple instances where she gives him an opening and he says, ‘Goodnight, Sookie.’ He’s reversing because he knows if there’s any hope for him with her… he has to let her be.”

Another case in point: by the end of Season 4, the triumvirate relationship between Bill, Sookie and Eric Northman seems untenable.  Where will it go from here? Will Sookie ditch them both into the arms of Joe Manganiello‘s character Alcide Herveaux? We don’t know, but what we can glean from previous seasons is that if it does happen, it probably won’t last long!

This brings us to the next question: (apparently on everyone’s mind) How does Moyer react to the on-screen romance between his wife, Anna Paquin and Alexander Skarsgård?  He handles the question with tact and points out the more uncomfortable situation that exists for his wife: “You’ve gotta remember what it’s like from Anna’s point of view… She’s having to do it with somebody else in front of all the crew who know us as a couple.”  As a loving husband, he reminds us gossip-mongers that the awkwardness is far greater for Paquin than his own.  But also, he comments on future “affairs” as husband and wife: they’ve considered working on projects together, but not acting together.  If a project came to fruition, one of the two would assume the role of director and the other, actor, so as not to overdo it for indulgent fans.

Video: Stephen Moyer on Regis & Kelly

September 26, 2011

Our Favorite 175-year-old Vampire:

Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) HBO promo S4Stephen Moyer recently made a guest appearance on Regis & Kelly.  During his visit to the show he made the announcement that he and his wife, Anna Paquin just celebrated their first anniversary together!  Happy Belated Anniversary, Stephen and Anna!  When discussing married life he admitted that he was constantly surprised that their life together was always getting better and better.  How sweet!  They asked him if he considered himself to be a romantic — he said, “I am fairly romantic, I think I am!”, and quickly realized he would need to offer an example of just how romantic he is.  Moyer began to talk about the fact that he and Paquin are huge fans of boxing and that he recently flew to Las Vegas in order to get her a gift.  Want to know what the gift was?  Amir Khan’s boxing wraps from his match!  He also talked a little bit about what their summer consisted of.  After they finished shooting the last episodes of True Blood, he, Paquin, and his kids visited a ranch in Montana.  According to Moyer, they rode horses for hours daily and went tubing, and the overall experience and beauty of the place was breathtaking.  He also talked about his recent venture to Yellowstone Park with his children while his wife had other obligations to attend.  Sounds to me like they had quite an amazing summer!

Truebies, what’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for anyone, or anyone’s ever done for you?  Let us know in the comments below!

Stephen Moyer to Star in New Movie Called “The Barrens”

September 24, 2011

Based on the Jersey Devil:

Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton on HBO's True BloodTrue Blood star, Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton), is sticking to his guns in his latest movie, The Barrens. The horror genre seems to sit well on his shoulders, after all. While he will not be playing a vampire in this flick, there will be a strange creature, commonly known as the Jersey Devil, that he will be up against.

The Jersey Devil is said to be a winged beast that is an amalgamation of several other animals. It is that steeped in Jersey tradition that an NHL team is named after it, as well as Bruce Springsteen writing a song about it.

The movie is written by Darren Lynn Bousman (of the Saw franchise fame) and is being produced with the assistance of Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten from The Genre Company. Anyone who saw Deborah Ann Woll in Mother’s Day, will be familiar with this crew. John Eckert and Shara Kay will also assist with production.

The movie will start production in Vancouver shortly, so make sure you keep an eye out for it. And, if anyone in the Vancouver area spots Stephen Moyer out and about, make sure you drop in here and let us know!

Video: Stephen Moyer Spills on Season 5 — Spoilers!

September 13, 2011

Vampire Bill shares Spoilers for Season 5:

Stephen Moyer as True Blood’s Bill ComptonMTV recently interviewed Stephen Moyer (the handsome Brit who plays vampire Bill Compton on HBO’s True Blood) at the junket for his latest movie, The Caller. When asked for Bon Temps Spoilers Moyer said:

“I know there is going to be an omnipresent power in season five. I know what it is. I think we could be heading towards an even greater season.”

Sounds marvelous! What could this “omnipresent power” be? More witches? Fairies? Another Supe? Will Jesus fly down to Bon Temps and decide he can’t miss all the fun? Wait, Moyer has more to say about the coming season:

“If they go where they’re going, it will be amazing and upset a lot of people, which is what we like.”

Great! Nine months of these teasers! How are we going to cope? After Sunday’s incredible finale (with the most cliffhangers in True Blood finale history) we have plenty to ponder. Stephen Moyer’s statement just adds more questions to our ever-growing list. It’s going to be a long nine months.

Watch the video, and share your theories, questions, and ideas about season five in the comments section below. Who knows? Maybe Alan Ball will stumble across our page and get some ideas from us!

Death Becomes True Blood’s Anna Paquin

September 9, 2011

Sink Your Teeth into the Life of the Actress Behind Sookie Stackhouse:

Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) in Stylist magazine UK29-year-old Anna Paquin’s life has been a rollercoaster ride, to say the least. Paquin grew up in New Zealand and moved to L.A. when she was 16 and before that, at age 11, she became the second youngest actress to win an academy award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1993 film, The Piano.

She can also add Jane Eyre, Amistad, Almost Famous, and X-Men to her resume. In 2008, she began appearing on the new HBO thriller True Blood as Bon Temps’ psychic waitress, Sookie Stackhouse, and got married to her co-star and one-time on-screen love, Stephen Moyer, in August of 2010. After celebrating her first wedding anniversary, True Blood’s renewal for a fifth season, and four films coming out in the future, it seems a lot of things are coming together for Anna Paquin. Paquin adds that she and her husband have a life outside of True Blood so it’s never difficult to be married to Moyer and be romantically involved with him on screen.

She has not been one to shy away from speaking about her and her husband’s relationship:

“Maybe it should be weird, simulating sex with your husband in front of people. But it’s really not. When it’s a love scene with someone you actually love, there’s no feeling like, ‘Can I touch him here? Can I touch him there?’ You know what your boundaries are – or what they aren’t, I suppose.”

On True Blood’s fans, Paquin says:

“It didn’t used to be as crazy as it is now, but I don’t totally remember what it was like before. Being recognized happened much less often when I was younger, but it still happened. I don’t really notice it anymore to be honest. When I am out with friends, they will get kind of protective, and be like, ‘Do you want to move, people are staring?’ I’m like, ‘Oh no, we’re fine.’”

Stephen Moyer Discusses Role in Thriller, “The Caller”

September 5, 2011

“The Caller”, Moyer’s Newest Film Hit Theaters August 26:

Stephen Moyer in The CallerStephen Moyer recently interviewed with shockya.com about his newest movie that just premiered in select theaters.  The Caller, directed by Matthew Parkhill, tells the story of a lady named Mary (Rachelle Lefevre) who has just recently been granted a divorce from her abusive husband.  Moyer plays the role of Mary’s new boyfriend, John.  After moving into her new apartment, she begins to receive random phone calls from a lady named Rose that she didn’t know previously.  Rose and Mary begin to form a bond together over their failed relationships, and eventually Rose reveals that she has been calling Mary from the past.  Mary doesn’t believe her and from that point on attempts to avoid Rose’s calls.  Eventually, Rose begins taking revenge on Mary for ignoring her and choosing John over her.

During the interview Moyer was asked why he was originally interested in playing Mary’s abusive ex-husband in the film, but eventually decided that the role of her new boyfriend, John, was a better fit for him.  Moyer’s response:

“I felt like the ex-husband was a little dark.  I had just come out of a season (of True Blood) with Bill being dark, and I felt like I should do something a little bit more nice, a little bit more ordinary.  I really liked the fact that he’s the one central figure in Mary’s life in the movie that’s a warm one.  It takes her a while for her to trust him, but ultimately, she does trust him.  I really liked the kind of dynamic of that.”

Some other questions asked during the interview were; How did you prepare for the role of John?  When Mary first tells John that Rose is claiming to be calling from the past, why do you think it’s important that he doesn’t believe her?  For the full interview click the link below!  Any thoughts on Moyer’s new movie?  Has anyone already seen it?  Let us know in the comments below!

A Little Birdie Told Me — True Blood PSAs Part 2

August 8, 2011

New PSAs From True Blood For “It Gets Better”:

This second article is courtesy of True Blood’s official YouTube page.  Stephen Moyer, Anna Paquin, Nelsan Ellis, and Brit Morgan made “It Gets Better” PSAs for The Trevor Project. In these PSAs they talk about personal experiences with bullying.

Stephen Moyer’s message begins with:

“I’ve got two children who come home from school sometimes as if the world is at an end…”

Nelsan Ellis shares:

“I was talked about growing up because I was the odd kid, I was strange in my family and later in life I learned to embrace who I was and all of my differences because I realized they make me beautiful.”

Brit Morgan talks about being made fun of because of her medical condition:

“I totally know how you feel. I had a particular experience growing up. I had really, really severe scoliosis and I had to wear this back brace, I was really, really crooked, and I walked funny and had a hunch on my back. I remember being in middle school and I remember being in high school, and I remember how bad I used to get picked on.”

Anna Paquin says:

“The thing about bullying is that it makes you feel like you’re alone, it makes you feel like there’s something wrong with you. It makes you feel like you can’t go and talk to someone because they won’t understand… it gets better. It’s just as simple as that.”

Hey Truebies, if you feel picked on or alone and need help please call 1-866-4-U-TREVOR, or visit TheTrevorProject.org or GLSEN.org.
