The Good Wife Brings Back True Blood’s Vampire King of Mississippi Denis O’Hare – PHOTOS:

October 1, 2012

Denis O’Hare goes from the Face of Anarchy as True Blood‘s Russell Edgington to the Face of the Law in The Good Wife

True Blood actor Denis O’Hare never seems to fail to exert his power over others: from the chaos-inducing, fairy blood-loving, 3,000-year-old vampire in True Blood to the voice of justice as a judge on The Good Wife, he sure makes others listen! However, even with his busy career, he still makes time for Twitter!

Denis O'Hare and The Good Wife Co-stars

On August 28th, Mr. O’Hare tweeted a funny photo of himself and The Good Wife co-star Linda Emond and co-star and episode director Josh Charles. He then posted another picture of himself with other fellow actors Julianna Margulies and Brian Dennehy two days later.

Denis O'Hare and The Good Wife Co-Stars

Denis O’Hare will be reprising his role as Judge Charles Abernathy now that his True Blood-filming days have come to an unfortunate end. He was seen on six other cases on The Good Wife from 2009 to 2012, so we’re sure glad to see him back! No details have been released regarding this particular episode as of yet, but we’re hoping maybe he’ll have an encounter with Carrie Preston, also seen on True Blood as the sassy Merlotte’s waitress Arlene, who also had a six-episode experience on The Good Wife as Elsbeth Tascioni, an eccentric lawyer.

What will Denis O’Hare bring to the courtroom? The Good Wife Season 4 begins Sunday, Sept. 30 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Tune in to find out!

Video: Carrie Preston ‘UInterview’ on True Blood Season 5

June 16, 2012

Arlene Fowler’s Character Has Evolved but Remains a Source of Comic Relief:

Carrie Preston stars as Arlene Fowler in HBO's True BloodCarrie Preston, who plays quirky and prejudiced waitress Arlene Fowler, answered questions from fans about Season 5 of HBO’s series True Blood. Ms. Preston is a graduate of Julliard, is married to actor Michael Emerson (Person of Interest, Lost), and is also a director and producer. In her interview, she answers questions about all of these topics, as well as Arlene’s role as a source of comic relief.

Season 5 has shown fans the evolution of Arlene’s character, according to Ms. Preston, giving her a deeper storyline and more emotional depth. She also says that she has faith in the show’s writers, and has no problem putting Arlene’s character in their hands.

“One can even say that she stands for a little bit of intolerance which we see a lot in society. But what has been fun for me is seeing how the writers are starting to trust me as the seasons have gone on, with more a dramatic story line, a deeper story line, more emotional accessibility to Arlene and from Arlene.”

Vampires and Werewolves Seem Real with the Context of Humans

Ms. Preston believes that what makes True Blood a believable show, despite the presence of supernatural beings, is that it is rooted in reality. Despite the fantasy aspect, True Blood explores the human experience, which gives fans a believable context.

When asked about Arlene’s relationship with Terry, Ms. Preston explains that she is happy with the consistency that relationship has provided the show. Still, she confirms that Arlene and Terry will have problems in Season 5, due to Terry’s past.

“Arlene is someone who wants to always have a man in her life and Terry is the best one yet. So she does everything she can to fight for it.”

While she has never considered the mash-up of True Blood and Lost that her marriage to Lost star Michael Emerson suggests, Ms. Preston does recognize the mash-up of fans of the two shows. She suspects the fantastical elements of both shows are what attract the same fans.

“I love it, I love doing it, I love being able to see something start from an embryonic stage and then just grow into a full grown being.”

Ms. Preston is a producer and director, in addition to being an actor. She loves all three jobs and never wants to have to choose between them. She counts herself lucky that being an actor has given her access to so many good directors. Ms. Preston is very proud of the film she directed last year. That’s What She Said has debuted at Sundance, as well as other film festivals.

Video: Carrie Preston’s True Blood Season 5 Predictions

March 21, 2012

Is Arlene’s Family In Danger?

Carrie Preston, True Blood’s ArleneAccording to True Blood actress Carrie Preston, season 5 of the show will be the one to watch. As always, one of the best things about any new season is the host of new characters that come with it. Chris Meloni (Law and Order: SVU), and Scott Foley (Felicity), will be joining the cast this season. Meloni stars as an ancient and very powerful new vamp, and Foley joins as Patrick Devans, a war veteran carrying dangerous baggage.

Preston was quick to note that Foley will be causing more than a few problems for Arlene and Terry. It isn’t yet clear at this point exactly what way Foley will threaten Arlene’s happy marriage, but the actress had this to say during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival:

“Arlene wants to hold onto her man and her family and that’s always going to be her MO. Anything that comes into her situation and is threatening, she’s not going to take that lying down.”

So what are your predictions for what these two guys will get up to during Season 5 of True Blood? Let us know in the comments!

Carrie Preston Directs Feature-Length Independent Film:

Carrie Preston - Director, That's What She SaidActress Carrie Preston portrays waitress Arlene Fowler on HBO’s True Blood. She recently went behind the camera to direct, ‘That’s What She Said’. Ms. Preston’s production company, Daisy3Pictures, produced the film that was shown at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

The trailer for ‘That’s What She Said’ would lead you to think the movie is about a woman getting support from her friends after her date stands her up. Really, it’s about BeBe, seeking support from her cynical best-friend Dee Dee, the day of the most romantic date of her life. They find themselves inexplicably joined by Clementine, a stranger-turned-friend, who has just endured a break-up and can’t stop discussing a certain part of her anatomy. Ms. Preston explains:

“As the day goes on, the friendship gets more honest, more crude, and it introduces one of life’s greatest riddles; why does everything always have to be so hard?”

‘That’s What She Said’ is based on the play, ‘Girl Talk’. The play was written by a friend of Ms. Preston, Kelly Overbey (Unforgettable, The Good Wife), who also appears in the film. Ms. Preston directed the play eight years ago and always dreamt of one day helming the film. The cast also includes Anne Heche (Hung), who plays cynical best-friend Dee Dee; Marcia DeBonis (Curb Your Enthusiasm) reprises her lead role in ‘Girl Talk’, BeBe; and Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) rounds out the cast as self-professed nymphomaniac, Clementine. Ms. Preston describes the film as:

“It’s a look at how friendship can survive chronic sarcasm, bizarre stranger danger, an unexplained itch, and a dangerous dildo.”

Video: MTV Talks to True Blood Cast at the Golden Globes

January 25, 2012

Season 5 Looks To Shake Things Up!

Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse Recently, MTV got to speak to not one, but FOUR cast members from HBO’s True Blood! Ryan Kwanten, Janina Gavankar, Carrie Preston and Joe Manganiello were present, even though True Blood was overlooked for nominations this year. While there is a bit of a wait until Season 5 starts up, the stars were happy to drop a few snippets of information.

Ryan Kwanten hints at maturity developing in Jason Stackhouse, especially since Andy Bellefleur is not currently being the best Sheriff.

Janina Gavankar suggests nothing ever stays perfect in Bon Temps, so perhaps there will be more complications for the Luna/Sam Merlotte relationship? She hopes not:

“I will always have hope for Sam. They are meant to be. Nobody understands you like another shifter.”

Carrie Preston also suggests there will be trouble between Arlene Fowler and Terry Bellefleur — especially now that an old friend of Terry’s has arrived!

As for our fave werewolf, Alcide? Well, his is the quote of the clip:

“We’ve seen that he’s a sweet guy; we’ve seen that he’s the kind of guy that would be great in a relationship. I think that you’re going to be introduced to a side of him that’s going to slam you up against the wall and go for it.”

Really? I’d like to see that!

Make sure you check out the full video and let us know what you think will happen in Season 5.

Carrie Preston Interview with True Blood Season 5 Teaser

January 13, 2012

Arlene Fowler’s Drama on Top Network TV shows:

Carrie Preston as Arlene FowlerSince HBO’s True Blood has been on hiatus, Carrie Preston, who plays the fiery Arlene Fowler, has been quite busy booking a number of roles on top network shows such as Law and Order: SVU and The Good Wife. She guest-starred in the SVU episode: “Educated Guess”, playing the aunt of a woman facing multiple troubles. On what drew her to the role:

“The showrunner for ‘SVU’ now is Warren Leight, and Warren is a playwright first and foremost even though he’s been doing television for so long. I would say about 8 or 9 years ago I did a play of his at Baltimore Centerstage… I would do anything for him. This came along, it just worked out schedule-wise and I liked the role… Like I said, I’ll work for Warren — I’ll go anywhere for him.”

According to TVLine, Preston will be back on The Good Wife later this year. On True Blood Season 5:

“There are a lot of new characters, as is always the case with ‘True Blood.’ You will get some quick answers right off the bat. The show is not going to leave you wondering about some of the cliffhangers.”

Truebies, any guesses as to what crazy Arlene will be up to next season?

Carrie Preston’s Busy Schedule and Season 5 Hints

November 16, 2011

Preston in Bag of Hammers, Law & Order, The Good Wife:

Carrie Preston in The Good WifeCarrie Preston (Arlene Fowler to Truebies) has had a busy schedule while True Blood filming is on sabbatical.  She’s starring in a new film called Bag of Hammers with Jason Ritter and Amanda Seyfried, which she has described as a departure from her other roles as of late.  Her character is a single mom who is way over her head.  She has no money, a kid and no job prospects; naturally the role is “more serious, darker.”  The characters who play opposite her are “two slacker con-artists.  Young men who are really just boys… [who] by encountering my character and son… they grow up,” Preston says.  “In some ways, [the film is] a subversive look at alternative parenting.”  The theatrical release of the indie flick Bag of Hammers is set for this fall or winter.

On the small screen, Preston has guest starred on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (in which she plays the aunt of a rape victim) and a recurring role on The Good Wife.  On The Good Wife, Preston plays Alicia Florrick’s (Julianna Margulies) “slyly dithering lawyer” who is “ditsy like a fox.”  Preston plays Elsbeth Tascioni, the “scatterbrained genius” with a “quirky rhythm” says Ken Tucker of EW.com.  Elsbeth returns (from the first season) to help Alicia out of a sticky situation with her expected-terrorist client.  The episode entitled “Executive Order 13224” aired November 6th.

Of her role, Preston said that she was delighted with the character’s ripening.  In this particular episode, we see her “struggle a little more.  We see a little more of her vulnerability.  It’s always a rare thing… to have a character that is so unique and specific [in such an auxiliary character]… instead of just a talking head.”  She credits  The Good Wife with the ability to write characters back into plots successfully.  “[They have] a wonderful revolving stable of characters that they continue to bring back… They tend to want to give everybody that comes on the show a real, fleshed out character.”  She asserts that this ability, among other great qualities, is what keeps the audience interested.

But what we all want to know is what she can reveal about True Blood‘s Season 5!  Shooting begins shortly after Thanksgiving, and after reading the first episode, she affirms that it is “up to the usual True Blood standards with epic proportions of new characters and drama and comedy.  You know, romance and everything else we’ve come to expect.”  About Season 4 cliffhangers she declares, “fans will definitely be satiated almost immediately,” but then, “of course, a million more questions will come up, and those will propel us through the rest of the season.”  The actors that will play the new characters are not known to her, yet.  On her story-line she reminds us that Terry’s war buddy, played by Scott Foley, is still around and we’re not sure how that will affect their home life.  Her response is as tight-lipped and spoiler-free as her cast mates’.  We’re reminded yet again that we’re going to have to wait for the premiere to learn just about ANYTHING… but the element of surprise is what keeps us interested, right?

Carrie Preston Discusses Nudity and True Blood

November 3, 2011

HBO’s Fave Redhead Has a Secret:

Carrie Preston as Arlene Fowler Recently, Carrie Preston (busty redhead, Arlene Fowler, on HBO’s True Blood), was interviewed by Huffington Post’s ‘Naughty but Nice Rob.’ The topic was nudity.

While Arlene has not nuded up as often as some of the other cast members, it turned out there is a reason for that:

“I wouldn’t say no to it, but we have a little false advertising situation going on with me because they give me quite the bust line … It’s called a hydraulic lift [laughs]. No, they have several layers of chicken cutlets and bras but my character is larger than life, so that makes sense.”

Carrie went on to explain that she was the only ‘enhanced’ cast member, but was quick to point out that Alexander Skarsgård’s butt is all his.  Aren’t we all glad to hear that!

And what about the other constant in the show: blood? Well, that is actually made from colored syrup. And according to Preston, it tastes pretty darn good too!

Truebies, did any of you already know this secret?

True Blood Season 4 Finale References Reality TV Star

September 16, 2011

A Teen Mom For Halloween? Why Not?

Arlene’s daughter Lisa Season 4 finaleTruebies may have thought Arlene’s daughter Lisa on the True Blood Season 4 finale was dressed as her pregnant mom for Halloween, but that was not the case, as we learned from her response to Sam:

“I’m Jenelle from ‘Teen Mom 2’.”

The MTV teen mom, Jenelle Evans, was surprised when she heard that she’d been named on the hit HBO series. She only found out that it occurred when fans started tweeting her about it. She tweeted her followers back, asking:

“Who is watching ‘True Blood‘ right now? What did they say about me?”

Evans thought it was weird and did not know why they would care enough about her to reference her on the show. Truebies, what did you think of the costume and shout out to the reality star?  Leave us a comment below.
