True Blood Finale: A Look Back on… Villians

August 24, 2014

Who Would You Rate as the Best And Worst Villains from HBO’s True Blood?

Anna Camp stars as Sarah Newlin in HBO's True Blood Season 7With HBO’s True Blood fast coming to a close, I thought I’d rate the best and worst True Blood villains!

  1. BEST: Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp). Over and over again Sarah has plagued the show, always bringing her warped sense of religious righteousness along with her for the ride. She even outlasted her husband, Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) – no easy feat since he became a vampire in the end. However, it is her tenaciousness and lack of whiny little spinelessness her husband possessed that has made her the top villain we love to hate so much.
  2. WORST: Mr Gus (Will Yun Lee). Mr. Gus had potential. Anyone who Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and his progeny, Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) are happy to side with have got to have something going for them after all. However, no one is really sure – Mr. Gus included – if he is even a bad guy. Sure he has the Yakuza backing him up but there just hasn’t been enough plot development for us to really fear him.
  3. BEST: Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare). The guy ripped out a newsreaders beating heart while they were reading the news. On TV. With millions of people watching. Did Russell care? Oh no, he did not.
  4. WORST: The Ifrit. Really HBO, a smoke monster? And now Bill (Stephen Moyer) is dreaming of Sookie (Anna Paquin) having babies that look suspiciously like mini-Ifrits. Oh HELL no!
  5. BEST: Rene Lenier (Michael Raymond-James) Also known as Drew Marshall. Back in Season 1 of True Blood there was a real murder mystery going on. And, for fans of Charlaine Harris’s books (on which True Blood is based), we all just sat back and watched and waited. We knew how shocked people would be when they worked out sexy Cajun Rene, hubby to waitress Arlene (Carrie Preston), was the one murdering cats and grandmothers alike.
  6. WORST: Bill/Billith (Stephen Moyer). So Bill Compton drank the blood of Lilith (Jessica Clarke) and became Billith. Still not really sure how he un-became Billith, but that’s okay. Maybe that’s the real reason his Hep-V is so virulent now?

So who are your best and worst True Blood villains ever? Let us know by commenting below!

Jessica Clark Talks to DIVA Magazine About True Blood and Nudity

October 18, 2013

Landing the Role of Lilith Was a Fan Girl Dream for Jessica Clark:

Jessica Clark stars as Lilith in HBO's True BloodFans of HBO’s True Blood will recognise Jessica Clark as the blood smeared Lilith from Season 5 and Season 6. But according to Jessica, scoring a role on True Blood was a dream come true:

I was a fan of True Blood from the [first] pilot episode. I like Bram Stoker and Interview with The Vampire – of all those supernatural characters I’ve always responded to the vampires the most. That weird combination of the power – I’ve always considered them very sexual, sexually voracious.

And boy oh boy didn’t Lilith supply a lot of that sexuality for the last two seasons! Her trademark lack of clothes was the talk of many a True Blood fan. Speaking exclusively to DIVA magazine, Clark was very open about the show’s nudity. In fact, she actually found it important when playing the role of Lilith, but for a reason other than what you may think:

With Lilith, very little about her nudity is sexual to me. It’s primeval and powerful – that raw essence of what it means to be that demi-god, demon, however she’s perceived. Yes, it can be titillating because we all like to see naked bodies. But that doesn’t seem like its sole purpose.

She raises a very good point there. Sometimes the audience’s interpretation of a character or scene, or indeed, costume choice, may be entirely different to what was intended by the show. When asked about how she thought the show should be interpreted, Jessica had a very insightful reply:

[True Blood] uses different supernatural species to [represent] different minorities that exist within our real world. They explore what it is to be marginalised or discriminated against, or to be a subculture that’s fighting for recognition. I love its basic premise, but it can be interpreted on a number of levels. It can either be a super-sexy vampire soap opera, or a searing commentary on society… it depends on what you’re looking for and how you approach it.

VIDEO: True Blood Season 6 Episode 9 ‘Prayer’ Teaser

August 9, 2013

Is Sarah Newlin Praying for True Blood?

Stephen Moyer stars as Bill/Billith in HBO's True Blood Season 6, Episode 9, entitled 'Life Matters'With only two episodes left of HBO’s True Blood Season 6, fans are starting to get anxious about all their favorite vampires  now trapped in the room from Billith’s (Stephen Moyer) vision from earlier in Season 6. Will they all meet the sun?

In the latest video teaser of Episode 9 (entitled Life Matters), we find Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) praying – but for who or what, is unclear. Is she praying for her own safety perhaps? After seeing what looks like Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) holding a gun to her head in the previous Episode 9 promo, then possibly she is indeed praying for her own salvation.

We also find snippets of that damn roof opening up over our True Blood vampires. Will they all die? Then  Jason Stackhouse is screaming and bodies are burning. If you slow that particular scene down, you can see a redhead cowering in the background – is that Jessica (Deborah Ann Wool)? Why isn’t she burning?

We also find Billith coming out of Fairyland – or is he being forcibly pushed out? Especially since we see a very brief moment of a very angry Warlow (Robert Kazinsky) – and is Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) tied up behind him? Finally, there is that flash of what appears to be Lilith (Jessica Clarke). Which leads fans to wonder ‘what’s that all about?’

So many questions. Only this Sunday will be able to answer them for us – #waitingSUCKS!

True Blood Season 6, Episode 9 Synopsis has been released. Episode 9 marks the 2nd last episode of Season 6. The battle between the humans and vampires will likely intensify even further in the upcoming episodes. Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) will be out for revenge for his sister Nora’s (Lucy Griffiths) death, which was at the hands of the humans.

Here’s What will Happen:

“A desperate Bill (Stephen Moyer) tries to ferry Warlow (Rob Kazinsky) away from the faerie plain, but Sookie (Anna Paquin) is having none of it. Meanwhile, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) arrives at vamp camp, looking to inflict serious human damage. In Bon Temps, friends and family take emotional turns remembering a fallen neighbor. Bill feels the pull of Lilith’s (Jessica Clark) sirens”.

So Truebies do you think that Eric is going to get the revenge he is looking for, or will his return to vamp camp only to further secure his spot in the room where the vampires will meet the sun?

True Blood Season 6 Gears Up Another Notch as it Heads Towards the Finale:

Stephen Moyer stars as Bill/Billith in HBO's True Blood Season 6Well, well, well… what do we have here? It another awesome ‘In the Weeks Ahead’ video, bought to us direct from this weekend’s ComicCon! There is just so much that can be gleaned from this HBO clip. Let me sum it up for you before you watch it in it’s entirety:

  • Sookie (Anna Paquin) concludes the ‘death ain’t the end, but just a pit stop on the highway that keeps on going.’ And then proclaims to (possibly) Ben (Robert Kazinsky) that she would rather ‘walk the world as a corpse than spend another minute with you.’
  • Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) proclaims that she is ‘unstoppable’
  • Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) looks to be in a bad way
  • Billith (Stephen Moyer) and Lilith (Jessica Clark) disagree on something
  • Billith drinks something out of a vial – what is he going to turn into now?!
  • There seems so be a lot of heartache for the vampires at Vamp Camp
  • Alcide (Joe Manganiello) is given an ultimatum by both his own father and Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell)
  • Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) is chained up inside a cage
  • Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) is a sook

And that’s just for starters! Let us know what you think will happen in the second half of True Blood Season 6 by commenting below.

July 18, 2013

The Plot Thickens:

Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) battle it out in HBO's True Blood Season 6, Episode 6, entitled 'Don;t You Feel Me?'Fans of HBO’s True Blood Season 6 are biting their nails as they await the episode in which one of their True Blood favorites dies. Is this the episode in which it will occur? HBO has released the official synopsis:

Bill (Stephen Moyer) decides to seek out Lillith (Jessica Clark) for advice on handling the escalating human-vampire crisis. Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten), Nora (Lucy Griffiths), Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) get up-close-and-personal looks at the perverse perils of Vamp Camp. Sam (Sam Trammell) comes to a decision he hopes will be in Emma’s (Chloe Noelle) best interest. Andy (Chris Bauer) gives his faerie daughter a name, or two or three or four. Arlene (Carrie Preston) has a solution to Terry’s (Todd Lowe) malaise, and Eric makes a startling discovery.

So Andy finally names one of his fairy kids and everyone else appears to be in peril? What’s new for True Blood! Although the fact that Eric Northman makes a startling discovery has me completely intrigued. And why did they let Jason Stackhouse into Vamp Camp so quickly? What do you think will happen in this week’s episode? Let us know in the comments below.
