Carrie Preston Takes Role on The Good Wife
March 16, 2010
Sources have confirmed that Carrie Preston who plays Merlotte’s waitress, Arlene Fowler on True Blood, will be starting in a multi-episode role on CBS, “The Good Wife.” Her character is a woman by the name of Elsbeth Mann and she is will be part of Peter’s legal team on the show.
This news has brought about many rumors about the fate of Carrie’s character, Arlene, on True Blood. HBO declined to comment on the topic but a True Blood insider has said not to count on it. We are reminded that Arlene is not a major presence in the third book considering that most of the action in the third book takes place outside of Bon Temps. Carrie may have just had a little bit of free time on her hands. Most True Blood fans will side with that!
Don’t forget, Season 3 of True Blood premieres June 13th!!

Evan Rachel Wood has Left the Spider-Man Musical
March 13, 2010
The big-budget musical, “Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark” has had a tentatively rocky beginning with difficulties securing funding and taking on a new producer last fall. The musical was originally planned to open this spring, but has been pushed back to “an official opening sometime around Halloween”. Due to the show’s changing schedule, Evan Rachel Wood, who plays True Blood’s Louisiana Vampire Queen Sophie-Ann LeClerq, has had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.
Evan Rachel Wood was originally going to play Mary Jane (Peter Parker’s love interest) alongside Reeve Carney as Peter Parker and Alan Cumming as the Green Goblin. Casting is currently underway to replace Evan. The “technologically ambitious” show will include scores from U2’s Bono and the Edge and currently has a production cost of $50 million.
With such a beautiful voice, as we’ve seen in Across the Universe, it’s unfortunate that Evan will no longer be able to continue in what is sure to be an interesting musical.

VIDEOS: True Blood’s Michelle Forbes Talks Season 2 With SkyTV
March 11, 2010
In Season 1 of True Blood we first met Maryann Forrester, naked and accompanied by a pig. Just how do you top that?
SkyTV caught up with Maryann’s alter ego, Michelle Forbes as she was doing the publicity rounds for the recent UK premiere of True Blood Season 2 on FXUK.
In the three video clips below Michelle gives fans an insight into her crazy-wonderful character Maryann and provides us with a few sweet teasers for Season 2.
Michelle describes how True Blood “blows open like a volcano” and gets bigger and better and more insane as Season 2 progresses. Something tells me we might be in for more pig.
Even us Truebies get an honorable mention. We love you too, Michelle!
Enjoy these wonderful video interviews with Michelle!

True Blood Season 3: Jessica Gets More Exposure
March 10, 2010
The True Blood rumor mill is spreading new information again. According to Watch with Kristin from E! Online, Jessica and Hoyt fans will be getting a larger dose of the young lovers. She says,
“Great news for you Jessica-Hoyt fans! HBO hasn’t responded to request for comment, but I’ve heard that plans are under way to create a series of Jessica-centric (Deborah Ann Woll) webisodes in support of the upcoming season three. The webisodes will tell the story of what happens when Bill’s little baby vamp goes out into the big wide world on her own. Will she eat everybody? Will she be eaten? Tune in to find out!
Very interesting news, and it could be great to see this, but I want to reiterate that HBO has not yet verified this.
How do you feel about Jessica possibly getting webisodes? Would “minisodes” help you deal with the lack of True Blood until Season 3 starts in June?

Wolves vs. Vamps: Sex Appeal Showdown
March 6, 2010
Do Alcide Herveaux and True Blood’s werewolves have the appeal to knock vampires from the top slot in fans’ hearts in Season 3?
Twilight’s Taylor Lautner has paved the way for the shirtless, buff brand of wolf-men, and Alcide player Joe Manganiello is no slouch either, but the sexy factor for werewolves is hampered by their very nature, according an article by True/Slant writer Scott Bowen.
He attributes the overt sexuality of vampires in True Blood to their ability to maintain human qualities after their transformation. Vampires still physically appear human, save the pallor and the fangs, while werewolves find themselves snarling, growling, and in desperate need of a shave when the full moon rises.
Bill Compton and Eric Northman can don striped track suits and designer jeans without fear of more than the occasional blood stain. Fashion is trickier for a werewolf:
“The lycan in his human state could dress like Cary Grant, but the minute the transformation happens, rip, there goes the duds. The werewolf in full combat is never a fashion plate. Clothes are of no matter to his maximal expression of his monotonousness…”
A vampire’s feeding habits are also more seductive, than a werewolf’s, he said. Wolves are more likely to pounce, rip, and devour than seduce, nibble, and suck.
“To feed, a vampire must somehow penetrate its victim’s body, an easy pornographic metaphor. The vampire must be careful with the blood, and thus with the victim, to get all the blood it can, as if the vampire actually cares.”
A werewolf’s monthly transformation can put a damper on his love life, no matter how good he looks shirtless; he either has not enough time to cultivate a romantic relationship before his next transformation, or is too concerned about the safety of the woman he loves to ever let her get too close.
We’ll see what Alan Ball has in store for werewolf lore when Season 3 premiers this summer; fans have plenty of time to work on their Team Alcide shirts in the meantime.

VIDEO: Kevin Alejandro Talks About True Blood’s Secrecy
March 4, 2010
In this installment of “Drinking with the Stars” Korbi Ghosh sat down with Kevin Alejandro to talk about his upcoming roles in Southland and True Blood. Korbi and Kevin talk casually over drinks about the resurrection of Southland, his character Nate, and what fans can expect in the upcoming season of Southland and True Blood (including some behind the scenes details about filming a riot scene in LA for Southland).
The second half of the short interview focuses on Kevin being a new cast member on True Blood. Kevin somewhat reluctantly talks about his character due to the secrecy of True Blood’s production, noting that every script comes with a unique number so any leaked script can be linked to a specific person.
What we know before season 3 premieres is that Kevin will be playing Lafayette’s (played by Nelsan Ellis) new love interest… but Kevin isn’t spilling the beans about who (or what) his “charming” character is!

Once Were Women: The Kick-Ass Female Vampires of True Blood
March 4, 2010
I love Sookie: she’s smart, brave, and kills evil guys with spades (way cool), but in this article I want to take a look at some of True Blood’s other women … er …well, once were women anyway.
I’m talking about the female vampires of True Blood: Pam, Lorena, Jessica, and Nan. They are quickly becoming some of our favorite fictional vampire ladies.
Pam Ravenscroft
Pam is Eric Northman’s number one hench-vampire and helps him run the Shreveport vampire bar, Fangtasia. Eric turned Pam about 100 years ago or so, and, to her everlasting joy, freed her from the strictures of Victorian propriety. Pam never looked back.
Pam is a no-nonsense, smart-talking, cynical, world-weary, sort of gangster’s moll type of girl. In a film noir movie she’d be the hooker with heart of gold, but neither hooker nor the heart really apply to Pam, do they?
Though she didn’t get a lot of screen time in Seasons 1 and 2 of True Blood, word is Pam will be a regular in Season 3.
Lorena
Lorena is Bill Compton’s maker, snatching Bill from his family in 1868 and led him on a 70-year blood soaked frenzy until he forced her to release him.
Lorena is a femme fatale: beautiful, sexually dominating, vengeful and dangerous, but underneath all that she is co-dependent and so very lonely (not to mention as nutty as a fruit bat). She uses her immortality to seek out a perfect man and then enslaves him.
Lorena appeared only once in Season 1, but re-appeared in a number of Season 2 episodes just to torture Bill some more, all in the name of love. The big question of Season 3 is whether she will get her comeuppance.
Jessica Hamby
Jessica is the sweet, virginal, home-schooled girl who, like Persephone, is dragged down into the underworld to be turned into a vampire against her will. (Not that I’m saying that Bill turned Persephone – at least not that I know of.)
Jessica is transformed by the change in more ways than one. Just like Pam, Jessica is freed from suffocating societal strictures and becomes a teenage vampire rebel without a cause. Just like all teenagers, she seeks an identity separate from her parents, both human and vampire, and we go along for the tempestuous ride.
Introduced as a guest character in the latter part of Season 1, Jessica stole the heart of the True Blood writers and became a regular in Season 2. In Season 2 she got to explore her sexuality, test her boundaries, and get into a whole lot of trouble by the final episode. We are all on tenterhooks waiting to find out what Season 3 has in store for little Jess.
Nan Flanagan
Nan is the first female vampire we meet in True Blood. In Season 1 we see her as the talking head for the American Vampire League (AVL). In Season 2 she is revealed as a much more powerful figure when she knocks heads together after the FoTS debacle.
We don’t know much about Nan. In public she is the acceptable face of vampire society – all professional lines and cool colors. In private she is a kick-ass, black leather clad enforcer who can even face down Eric with a withering glance.
And, no, I didn’t forget Dianne who we met so briefly in Season 1. I do wish she’d return in a flashback – she is such a deliciously mean girl.

True Blood Season 2 UK Premiere With Sam And Michelle
February 24, 2010
True Blood’s UK fans are in for a crazy, sexy ride when Season 2 arrives on FX this week. Sam Trammell and Michelle Forbes, whose characters are both major players in Season 2, told Scotland’s Daily Record what the show’s U.S. fans already know — the season is rife with new characters and plenty of excitement.
Sam, who plays bar owner Sam Merlotte, said the show took off in its second year, and attributes its success to Alan Ball’s writing. The exciting, fast-paced tone of Season 2 bolstered the show’s success in a way no one anticipated, he said.
“It’s different, it’s scary, it’s serious, it’s funny, it’s sexy, it’s bloody. It bridges so many different genres and there is nothing else like it on television. Not many programs can mix the fantastical with very good drama but this has both, with social commentary and relationships as well as fantasy and these great creatures.”
Sam’s character is one of those fantasy creatures, a shape shifter who turns into a dog. To prepare for his role, he took some cues from his West Highland Terrier, Flossy, he said.
“She is very helpful. In one scene last season, I had to sniff someone’s bed like a dog would, so l was rolling around on the bed naked, and l watched the dog to see how she would do it and got some good tips.”
Michelle Forbes, who plays a central role as Maryann in Season 2, shies away from maligning her character as evil — though Sam makes a point of saying she’s “bad news.
“It’s better to say she is enigmatic. Everybody thinks she is bad but, as an actor, I have to play her straight, as no one who is evil thinks they are evil. I think she is warm-hearted.”
She also praised the show’s global success, musing about its mass appeal.
“I love the fact True Blood is popular in Scotland and the way it has worked around the world. It means there’s something universal about the story, and that’s just gorgeous, isn’t it?”
Season 2 starts this Friday in the UK at 10pm on FX (Sky Channel 64 and Virgin Media Channel 157).

True Blood Casting News: Additions For Season 3
February 24, 2010
Hey “True Blood” fans, we have some more season three casting news for you! A casting call for the role of Colonel John Flood describes the character as a male in his 50s or 60s who is self-assured, dressed like a golfer with a military haircut and is the wolf pack leader. He will not respond the way Sookie and Alcide expect to recent events. It is a guest star spot and Grainger Hines has been cast to play this role. This character will be introduced in Episode 5, “Trouble“.
Another small part, a werewolf, has also been cast for season three. This role was given to Mark Casimir Dyniewicz. This character will appear in episode four, which is entitled, “9 Crimes”.
With all this casting news my blood is pumping for season three! June can’t get here fast enough!
