True Blood’s Alex Skarsgård Has Praise for Co-Stars
May 22, 2012
HBO’s Viking Vamp Dishes On Castmates:
With the return of True Blood for Season 5 on June 10, and the release of ‘Battleship’ into theaters on May 18, fans of Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman) will have much to enjoy this summer.
Skarsgård’s film, ‘Battleship’, also marks the acting debut of singer Rhianna. Skarsgård shares several scenes with her and says he was not at all surprised at how easily she took to acting.
“I was honestly not surprised. Just like, watching her on stage, or her videos, you can tell [from] her energy and her charisma and personality, you know that she’s gonna be great in that part. I knew that and she really is.”
New to the cast of True Blood for Season 5, but making his return to HBO, is Chris Meloni (Oz, Law & Order: SVU). Skarsgård regards Meloni, who plays Vampire Authority member Roman, as a great addition to the cast.
“It wasn’t easy. His first day was basically him coming in. It was five pages of dialogue. Half of it was in Aramaic. That was like, ‘Welcome to the show, Chris.’ But he’s a trooper, a really amazing actor – obviously — and a great guy. We’ve had a lot of fun together on the show.”
It’s no secret that Skarsgård and True Blood co-star, Kristin Bauer Van Straten (Pamela DeBeaufort) have always held one another in very high regard. A recent teaser video, released by HBO, gives us a peek at a scene that might indicate a rift between the Viking Vampire Eric Northman and his progeny, Pam. Does Eric release his child? Do they find a way to ‘kiss and make up’? What do you think?

The posters are out for the HBO True Blood stars for season five! We canhardly wait to meet the new vampire and guardian of “The Authority” Roman. Played by Chris Meloni who recently left a long career at Law and Order: SVU, this character is all the buzz among the fans. You’d think he’s going to want to kick some King Bill and Sheriff Eric booty if he finds out they killed the Vampire League spokesman but since he invented mainstreaming, his reaction may be more complex than expected.

Denis O’Hare Juggles True Blood Season 5, and ‘An Iliad’
April 6, 2012
Denis O’Hare adapts Homer’s Iliad for the New York stage:
Denis O’Hare, who plays the Vampire King of Mississippi Russell Edgington in HBO’s series True Blood, has recently adapted Homer’s epic poem, ‘The Iliad’, for the New York stage. Collaborating with friend, Lisa Peterson who also directs, O’Hare wrote, and plays the leading role in this one-man play, ‘An Iliad’. Stephen Spinella (Angels in America) alternates performances with O’Hare.
In the early days of the Iraq War, Peterson approached O’Hare about adapting the story of the Trojan War as a platform for performance. They worked on the project periodically over the course of five years until they had a script. When asked how the work was condensed to create the script, O’Hare answered:
“We decided the most basic structure is Achilles meets Hector, the symbols of Greece and Troy respectively. We focused our stories around that central conflict with everything else radiating outward.”
O’Hare addressed the differences in acting for both stage and screen. He explained that each has benefits and drawbacks. “Actors must understand the medium in which they are working so they can adjust their performances accordingly.”
True Blood update
When the subject of True Blood came up, O’Hare said that he would be returning to the HBO series during the run of ‘An Iliad’. He explained that he is scheduled to film briefly in mid-March:
“Then I’m back in L.A. at the end of March to shoot some more. I’ve read about six scripts. They’ve got some very nice stuff planned.”
‘An Iliad’ officially opened March 6 with O’Hare and March 7 with Spinella at New York Theatre Workshop, 79 East 4 St., NYC. 212-460-5475.

A Little Birdie Told Me: True Blood’s Courtney Ford’s Surprising Announcement
March 21, 2012
Congratulations to Courtney on Her First Child!
True Blood’s Courtney Ford (Portia Bellefleur) announced on her Twitter page that she is expecting her first child; it was then confirmed by her husband Brandon Routh on his Twitter Page. The news was first announced on eonline.com. In the article it was revealed Brandon Routh announced they were expecting.
Courtney and Brandon said:
“It’s been so hard keeping the news to ourselves,” Routh admitted to People. Added Ford, of her growing belly: “It started getting difficult to hide what was happening. Flu and food poisoning excuses only work for so long, and by the last episode I could no longer button my pants! I just tried to joke that I had a big lunch.”
Ford met Routh in 2003 when he was a bartender in Hollywood, years before he played Superman. The couple married in November 2007.

Joe Manganiello Dishes on “Magic Mike” and the “Season of the Werewolf”
March 2, 2012
A Werewolf Stripper?
As fans eagerly await the return of True Blood’s Season 5 this summer, Joe Manganiello seems to be the most prolific celebrity spoiler for the show. It has been noted that if we were to call season four the season of the witch, season five will be the season of the werewolf. That means a whole host of hot new werewolf cast members. Manganiello told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent (at GQ’s Men of the Year Party in LA) that he’s looking forward to the season. Last season, Alcide “helped end the reign – and life – of packmaster Marcus… and actress Dale Dickey recently joined the cast as Marcus’ – presumably grieving – mom.”
Manganiello said:
“I can’t wait to work with her (Dale Dickey) and I think there’s gonna be some werewolves who are gonna give Alcide some trouble this season, as well. I’m anxious to see who they’ll cast.”
The actor has revealed that he’s on par with the fans in wanting to see his character bump nasties with Paquin’s. “Alcide likes Sookie a whole heck of a lot. She’s single, Alcide’s single… I totally want to see them hook up.” Apparently, Manganiello’s mother is a big Paquin fan as well, and wants to see her son’s character “find love with Bon Temps’ fairy-waitress.”
He also raved about the disastrous return of Russell Edgington. “I love Denis O’Hare,” he said. “Him coming back – it’s not good for Alcide, but it’s definitely good for the show.”
Finally, in a separate interview with Access Hollywood, Manganiello spoke about his role in the new, star-studded, male-stripper movie “Magic Mike” in which he plays Big Dick Richie (Gasp! Drool.) While the movie was “loosely inspired by Channing Tatum’s own past,” the actors were treated to lessons from the likes of Britney Spears’ choreography team. “Body rolls, some hip stuff,” Manganiello mentioned. His costars include Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, and Alex Pettyfer.
I personally am waiting with bated breath for the release of this film (in post-production) along with the return of True Blood, of course. Who’s with me? Leave your thoughts in the comments section, and check out the two full interviews that I have listed as sources if you need anything juicier.

Steve Newlin Is Back for Season 5!
January 25, 2012
The Rev. Returns To Visit Jason Stackhouse:
Season 4 left us with a ton of changes and questions at its end. We shouldn’t expect any less from Alan Ball. Tara‘s fate is in the air, Jessica and Hoyt are finished, and Sookie has no man! Perhaps one of the most surprising things to happen was Steve Newlin showing up on Jason‘s doorstep. This was hands down the most surprising moment of that episode for me. Newlin was the best part about Season 2 and now he’s back and with fangs? It can’t get much better than that in my opinion. From what I’ve read people seem to be divided on the meaning of that look Newlin gives Jason when he opens the door. Actor Michael McMillian gave his take on the whole thing saying:
“It seems really clear to me that Steve was always just as attracted to Jason as his wife was… In his eyes, Jason Stackhouse is the guy that Steve really wanted to be. I think he had a really heavy man-crush on him… that might have gone a bit deeper. And I think Steve is more heartbroken that Jason slept with Sarah than he is that Sarah slept with Jason, if you know what I mean.”
I can’t wait to see what Steve Newlin brings to the table in Season 5. I think this is a surprise that not a lot of us were expecting and I’m sure Alan Ball will deliver in ways that will definitely please the fans.

Video: MTV Talks to True Blood Cast at the Golden Globes
January 25, 2012
Season 5 Looks To Shake Things Up!
Recently, MTV got to speak to not one, but FOUR cast members from HBO’s True Blood! Ryan Kwanten, Janina Gavankar, Carrie Preston and Joe Manganiello were present, even though True Blood was overlooked for nominations this year. While there is a bit of a wait until Season 5 starts up, the stars were happy to drop a few snippets of information.
Ryan Kwanten hints at maturity developing in Jason Stackhouse, especially since Andy Bellefleur is not currently being the best Sheriff.
Janina Gavankar suggests nothing ever stays perfect in Bon Temps, so perhaps there will be more complications for the Luna/Sam Merlotte relationship? She hopes not:
“I will always have hope for Sam. They are meant to be. Nobody understands you like another shifter.”
Carrie Preston also suggests there will be trouble between Arlene Fowler and Terry Bellefleur – especially now that an old friend of Terry’s has arrived!
As for our fave werewolf, Alcide? Well, his is the quote of the clip:
“We’ve seen that he’s a sweet guy; we’ve seen that he’s the kind of guy that would be great in a relationship. I think that you’re going to be introduced to a side of him that’s going to slam you up against the wall and go for it.”
Really? I’d like to see that!
Make sure you check out the full video and let us know what you think will happen in Season 5.

Denis O’Hare of True Blood Co-Wrote “An Iliad”
December 8, 2011
His Play to be Performed in Chicago Until December 11:
The actor who plays our delightfully villainous Russell Edgington in True Blood and the pernicious, grotesque and suspicious Larry on FX’s American Horror Story has another trick up his sleeve: he’s co-written a play based on Robert Fagle’s English translation of Homer’s infamous Trojan War epic, The Iliad, with respected director Lisa Peterson.
Since 2005, the two have crafted “An Iliad” into a one-man show, out of the epic, that originally opened in 2010. O’Hare has not acted in it so far, due to his TV/film commitments, but plans to alternate with the lead star (Stephen Spinella from Angels in America and Spring Awakening) in the New York Theatre Workshop’s run beginning in February 2012. In the Chicago production, currently running at the Court Theatre, “The Poet”, here played by Timothy Edward Kane (The Illusion, Rock ’n’ Roll) was cast by the Court’s artistic director Charles Newell.
“Our hope is by the end of the evening that you not only understand something about the impulse, or as the text says ‘this rage contained within all of us,’ but also how we have a choice with what we do with those emotions,” Newell said, adding that the actor Kane “is just turning himself inside-out emotionally in a very exposed and dangerous performance that I think will have some real impact.”
O’Hare is a Michigan-native, graduate of Northwestern and was first seen on stage in Chicago before moving to New York and acting in productions of “Cabaret,” “Assassins,” and “Sweet Charity.” He won a Tony award for his performance in Richard Greenberg’s gay baseball drama, “Take Me Out.”
An Iliad continues through December 11 at the Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $40-$60 for the regular run. Call 773-753-4472 or visit CourtTheatre.org
O’Hare, Peterson and Newell discuss much more in an interview (which discusses the play, O’Hare’s personal life, etc.) in the Windy City Times and I would highly suggest all Truebies check it out and let us know what you think in the comments section!
