HBO’s True Blood Season 7 Finale – Gran’s Pecan Pie Recipe

August 20, 2014

A Recipe to Get You in the Mood for the True Blood Finale:

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) cries into Grans pie in HBO's True BloodSo here we are, at the very end of HBO’s True Blood and we are crying like Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) did after her Gran died all the way back in Season 1. In tribute of this sad event, I am reposting my recipe for Gran’s Pecan Pie, so all you truebies can cry into their pie while watching the True Blood Season 7 finale!

Gran’s Cryin’ Pecan Pie

Pie Crust

1 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup confectioner’s sugar
113grams cold, unsalted butter, chopped
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Pie Filling

395gram tin sweetened condensed milk
60grams brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsps Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur (or 1 tsp of vanilla extract)
1/4 cup maple syrup
Pecan halves, to decorate

Gran's Cryin' Pecan PieMethod

  • Add all the pastry ingredients to a food processor and whiz until totally combined.
  • Grease a pie dish and, using your fingers, press out the pastry dough until smooth.
  • Bake in the over at 340 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Add all the pie filling ingredients (except the eggs) to a pan and heat on a medium temperature until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Turn off the heat and allow to cool for five minutes.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking quickly to prevent them cooking unevenly.
  • Turn the heat back on to low and whisk until the mixture thickens into custard.
  • Pour into the pie crust and decorate with pecan halves
  • Refrigerate until set and serve with either whipped cream or ice cream
  • Enjoy! (But don’t forget to cry while eating it.)

If you are making this pie, why not take a photo or video of you crying into it, and post it (or the link) in the comments below!

True Blood Quickie: True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 “Love is to Die” Recap

August 18, 2014

It’s only a short recap this week as so much was wound up. But here’s what went down in Episode 9 (entitled Love is to Die) of HBO’s True Blood Season 7:

  •  Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) gets released in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 (entitled 'Love is to Die')Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) really does choose to die, it’s not just a cliffhanger. As a result both Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) and Sookie Stachouse (Anna Paquin) are PISSED. Jess to the point that she asks to be released from Bill. Sookie to the point of slapping him silly until Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) intervenes.
  • Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) has made his decision and decided to follow the mother of his child to Chicago.
  • Jessica and James (Nathan Parsons) sort out their differences and that story line is done and dusted.
  • Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack) and Bridgette (Ashley Hinshaw) work out they just aren’t right for each other. As a result of this, Jess and Hoyt finally get their thing on after Jessica admits they used to be involved and it seems they are back together again.
  • Poor Bridgette finds consolation in the arms of Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) – and not even in a sexual way. For the first time in Jason’s adult life he lies next to woman in bed and it stays G rated. I smell a blossoming romance here!
  • Bill and Eric have words. Bill explains why he is refusing to be healed. He thinks he is bad news for Sookie, and there is probably a little of his old time religion and beliefs mixed in as well tainting his decision to meet hte true death. Eric argues with him about how Hep-V can turn you into an emo, but, in the end, Eric agrees to talk to Sookie on Bill’s behalf.
  • For some reason the Yakuza have decided Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) should be a blond again – and who else should be her hairdresser but Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten)? It seems vampires will play a higher price for blond antidote hookers…
  • Eric talks to Sookie about Bill and calms her down enough for her to take Bill’s call. On the way to meeting with Sookie he stops at his grave stone, which kind of scares me after watching the promo video for the Season 7 finale.
  • Remember how we speculated over who will be having weird and hilarious sex in Episode 10? Well, it turns out we were right! Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric get frisky in that throne Ginger bought all those years ago.
  • Mr. Gus (Will Yun Lee), in the meantime, has returned from his trip to Dallas and now has Pam held hostage in the Fangtasia dungeon. She is hooked up to a horrible torture device and every time Eric refuses to answer, a rope is chopped and a wooden stake drops lower and lower… Thankfully Eric finally caves and tells the truth about Sookie knowing about Sarah being the Hep-V antidote. Now they want to know where she lives. Uh-oh
  • Bill finally arrives at Sookie’s house <insert credits here> WHAT?!?! NO!! Now we have to wait until next week to find out how True Blood will meet it’s true end!

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) star in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 (entitled 'Love is to Die')

*Just on a side note: did anyone else notice that Jessica is wearing what appears to be the same black dress that Sookie has on in the promo for the True Blood finale? Wonder what that all means?

VIDEO: True Blood Season 7 Finale Episode 10 (Thank You) Sneak Peek

August 17, 2014

Sookie Stackhouse Deserves the World According to Bill Compton:

Anna Paquin stars as Sookie Stackhouse in HBO's True Blood Season 7 finale, Episode 10 (entitled 'Thank You')But what if all Sookie (Anna Paquin) wants right now is to see Bill (Stephen Moyer) live? This is the very question asked by Sookie in the opening of sequence of the sneak peek trailer release of HBO’s True Blood Season 7 finale.

Besides the pressing issue of Bill surviving Hep-V or not, we also get plenty of other juicy tidbits:

  • It seems Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) has escaped yet again.
  • Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) still have a battle to fight regarding Mr. Gus (Will Yun Lee).
  • Speaking of Pam, whose neck is she feeding from? The person is wearing something blue, but that is the only hint as to the identity – wait, wasn’t Sarah wearing something blue earlier on in the clip?

It seems True Blood is nearly ready to meet the #TrueEnd. *cries bloody tears* Let us know your thoughts leading into the final week of True Blood Season 7 by commenting below!

True Blood Season 7 Spoilers: Goodbyes, Weird Sex & Love Triangles

August 15, 2014

Could an Original Cast Member Die in Episode 9 of HBO’s True Blood ?

Tara Buck stars as Ginger in HBO's True Blood Season 7It seems Episode 9 (entitled Love is to Die) will say a final goodbye to yet another original cast member of HBO’s True Blood! But will they die? It seems the devil is in the fine print of what TVGuide had to say about the upcoming episode recently:

With only two episodes to go, there are a lot of narrative threads to tie up, including the issue of Bill [Compton]’s mortality. I will only say this: At least one original cast member will say goodbye for good this week. In possibly related news, a longstanding love triangle will be resolved and you’ll see one of the show’s weirdest — and funniest — sex scenes between a long-unrequited pair.

How interesting is that news? With the admission of a long term love triangle also being resolved, one could assume that with Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) death, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) finally chooses Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard).  Consolation prize anyone? However, there is another love triangle going on at the moment – that of Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack), Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) and Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten). Perhaps TVGuide are referring to that triangle instead? Maybe Jess and Hoyt get back together and Jessica decides to move to Alaska to be with him? After all, it doesn’t specifically say the cast member will die.

And what of that sex scene, huh? Who do we know on True Blood that is part of an ‘unrequited pair’? Could it be Sookie and Eric? Probably not, since they have been intimate before. But it sure doesn’t leave many other options. Perhaps Arlene (Carrie Preston) and Keith (Riley Smith)? Especially since TVLine had this spoiler to announce:

Not everyone will get a happy ending on True Blood… but I think it’s safe to say that Arlene and Keith will be among the lucky few. Though we’re not going to get another pool table scene, this Sunday’s episode does show the effect Arlene’s relationship with Keith is having on her. (Spoiler Alert: She’s a very happy woman.)

But they haven’t been an item for very long, and many wouldn’t even really consider them as such. Oh, hang on a minute – what about Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric? Now that would potentially be hilarious and weird!

True Blood’s Violet Talks Sex Dungeons & Slumming With Jason

August 12, 2014

Violet is Trying to be a Part of Jason’s World’:

Karolina Wydra stars as Violet Muzurski in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 8 (entitled 'Almost Home')For many fans of HBO’s True Blood, Episode 8 (entitled Almost Home) was a welcome relief. When Jason Stackhouse’s (Ryan Kwanten) possessive girlfriend, 800 year old vampire Violet Mazurski, bit the dust, there was much applauding and cheering. Not only did this mean Jason was free from her barbaric clutches, but Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll), Adilyn Bellefleur (Bailey Noble) and Wade Cleary (Noah Matthews) were also safe.

But what of Violet? Was she really as scary as many fans made out? Or was she merely misunderstood? After all, a lot can change in the world after 800 years. According to the actress who played Violet, Karolina Wydra, she was very misunderstood:

Violet is not evil—I think the whole thing with this season is Violet is trying to fit into Jason’s world, and she’s so wrong in that world. You see her make such mistakes even though she’s trying to be helpful. Like when Alcide (Joe Manganiello) dies and she tells Sookie (Anna Paquin) she’s lost hundreds of boyfriends, it’s so wrong what’s coming out of her mouth, but she’s trying. She’s trying to fit into this world. You see it when you finally see her house there in episode eight, her speech about where she comes from, and you realize she’s been with the most powerful men in history, and now she’s with a regular dude. She’s trying something different, she’s trying to walk away from what she knows, but she’s too worldly and been around for too long.

While Violet seems to be out of her depth in the world she now lives in, she ended up choosing a boyfriend, who, ultimately, is out of his depth just working out whether Santa is a supernatural creature or not. For Violet, who could have bought any man in power to his knees, being with Jason Stackhouse was sort of like slumming it:

She’s lived a long time and has had many powerful men over the years, and she’d normally never go for someone like Jason. She’s been with princes, aristocratic people — the most powerful men in the world. She’s trying something new with Jason… You see how she lives in the last few episodes. You see her house and her décor and you get an idea of the kind of woman that she is. Violet is trying to be a part of Jason’s world, and she so doesn’t fit into that world. What I love about their relationship is that they’re such an odd couple but there’s still a connection — there’s something there.

Because of her age as a vampire and her aggressive nature, there would be no walking away from Violet for Jason, so, in the end, one would have to die. Karolina was a bit disappointed she was the one to die – and at the hands of Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack), no less – but, at the end of the day, it was an epic death and one worthy of her character.

Before her death, she introduced a couple of young teenagers to her audacious house and sex dungeon. Karolina was most impressed – too impressed possibly – by the house and contents. The house, among other things, was once a safe haven for pregnant teens, an irony not lost on Karolina. But the sex dungeon was a whole other thing. Karolina had a ball helping find sex toys and torture devices for it:

Kate [Barnow] actually asked me what kind of torture devices we should get, so I went online and looked for Polish torture devices. It was so fun! The chair that Noah is in, normally, you would sit on these pointy, metallic things that would break into your skin. The torture devices in those days were just brutal.

Even though Karolina had fun researching this, how was she inspired to get into character?

I do visual collages that help me maintain the deep core of what’s going on with her, and I [visualized] an animal for her. She’s a black panther—the way they move, their eyes, and how they take their time with stuff. They’re very protective of their families, their little ones, and they’re nocturnal. The collages have to do with images of inspiration of who she would have been in the past, actresses that bring out her sexuality. There are many different things, images that I see that are like, that’s so Violet. Sophia Loren—her sexuality is very luscious, and with a lot of the makeup I’d ask for a cat-eye eyeliner—or a panther would be on there, and old Catholic symbolism. I had Anna Magnani. If you ever watch her work, when she got passionate, she was very passionate. She had a lot of intensity when she performed.

True Blood Quickie: True Blood Season 7 Episode 8 “Almost Home” Recap

August 11, 2014

Here’s what went down in Episode 8 (entitled Almost Home) of HBO’s True Blood Season 7:

  • Karolina Wydra stars as Violet in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 8 (entitled 'Almost Home')Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) really does decide to be a martyr and walks outside to meet her destiny. Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) nearly does the wrong thing by wanting to rip her head off but luckily Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) is there to threaten him talk some sense into him and danger is averted. Eric does sup on Sarah’s blood though and is instantly healed of Hep-V.
  • Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) are curled up in bed enjoying the afterglow when Sookie decides it would be a good time to dredge up the past. It seems Bill was meant to bring Sookie back to Queen Sophie Ann (Evan Rachel Wood) as a breeder, since the queen had gotten wind of another queen’s (Queen Mab of the fairies) plan to abscond all the fae out of the human world.
  • Tara Thornton’s (Rutina Wesley) story line gets wound up. It turns out all that digging in the garden of the their old house was to draw attention to the fact that Lettie Mae (Adina Porter) needed to forgive herself so the pair of them could move on – Lettie Mae, in life, and Tara, in death. *cries into her tissues at all the loose ends being wound up*
  • Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack) and Bridgette (Ashley Hinshaw) discover they may not be as perfect for each other as they first thought. It seems Hoyt realizes his family is messed up enough not to want to pass on the family genes. As a result, when Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) gets the text from Violet (Karolina Wydra) saying she is holding Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) hostage and takes off, Bridgette joins him. Because of course you would go into extreme danger rather than have a fight with your boyfriend…
  • So Jason gives her a gun and heads into Violet’s freaky house of hell. It doesn’t take long for Violet to attack him, tie him up and describe exactly how she plans to kill every one – and it turns out she was weirder than anyone even thought! Luckily Hoyt followed them there though so he can shoot Violet dead and save the day. Oh, and look at all the glances between him and Jess. It seems glamour can’t put the fire out on their attraction. Seems Bridgette can spot it a mile off too. My prediction is Jess and Hoyt will get back together (especially after the little chat Jason and Jess have in the car later in this episode) and Jason will hook up with Bridgette.
  • While Sarah’s blood has healed Eric, it seems Mr. Gus (Will Yun Lee) is hesitant to release it directly to the general vampire public yet. It seems her blood does too good a job, he wants to dilute it down a bit first, so that vampires will have to purchase more than one bottle of Nu Blood in order to stay alive.
  • Eric arrives at Bill’s (how did he know she was there and not at her house?) and tells her about his lack of a Hep-V status. Sookie breaks the news that Bill is now sick. Eric is sworn to secrecy over the cure though and asks Sookie to sit tight and wait. Of course, this doesn’t happen *rolls eyes* and Sookie tracks down Eric at Fangtasia. As soon as she arrives she works out she’s in huge danger from Mr. Gus and the Yakuza so when Eric offers to glamour her, she fakes it with the best of them. In the process she reads Mr. Gus’s mind and ends up finding Sarah bound and gagged in the dungeon of Fangtasia. Boy is she excited once she reads Sarah’s mind and realizes Bill can be healed!
  • Hoyt goes to Bill’s during the day because he has the hots for Jessica all over again to drop off a bag of blood and him and Jess have a bit of a chat about the loss of parents.
  • Okay, just on a side note. There seems to be a lot of vampires awake during the day time in this episode. Remember when they could barely be woken in earlier seasons? Yeah, me too…
  • Mr. Gus has to return to Dallas but lets Eric and Pam know they should behave while his gone – yeah, he doesn’t trust them one little bit! And so he shouldn’t, because as soon as he’s gone they are fixing to cure Bill.
  • Speaking of Bill, he is having a dream about him and Sookie having a baby together – except this baby is a black smoke monster. Is Sookie pregnant with a baby Ifrit? But, anyway, Sookie wakes Bill from his nightmare and tells him the good news before dragging him back to Fangtasia’s and bumping into Eric and Pam.
  • In all the time it takes to get Bill to Fangtasia, he waits until then to tell them all it is his time to die and refuses to drink Sarah’s blood – WTH?!

True Blood Season 7: Arlene’s Story Arc Completes It’s Circle

August 9, 2014

Carrie Preston is Happy With Arlene and Keith’s Love Story:

Arlene Fowler (Carrie Preston) and Keith (Riley Smith) star in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 7 (entitled 'May Be the Last Time')A fondness for vampires has been a long time coming for Bon Temps waitress, Arlene Fowler. When HBO’s True Blood started seven seasons ago, Arlene was decidedly anti-vampire. But for Carrie Preston, the actor who portrays the redheaded character, she is glad Arlene has come full circle:

It was a great build. It builds up over the seasons, as opposed to breaking down or kind of fizzling out — it was the opposite. I feel like I had a great climb, and where it ended up was perfect… She has really grown more than a lot of the characters — to have her at the beginning be so terrified of vampires and at the end actually starting a relationship with one, that’s a remarkable thing.

Preston has also confirmed that this relationship will solidify and grow throughout the final few episodes of True Blood. Which is nice to see after all the broken relationships and heartbreak that has befallen her, starting with having a murderous ex-husband and ending just last season with the loss of Terry Bellefleur (Todd Lowe).

Arlene has not grown into a vampire appreciating member of society, but many characters on the hit show now look to Arlene for advice, the most recent being Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell). Now that she runs and owns Bellefleur’s (formerly called Merlotte’s), it seems Arlene has settled into a nice groove in her life, even if she confessed to Sam that she is only pretending to be happy in the hope that eventually will actually be happy. And, speaking of Merlotte’s, playing a drunk Arlene has been among Carrie’s fondest memories of being Arlene:

I’m pretty partial to drunk Arlene. Even from day one — in the pilot, she’s in the back of the bar, saying something like “It’s that vampire.” Then you jump ahead to when she sees Bill (Stephen Moyer) walking in daylight, that line “Y’all, I’m wasted,” and then in just episode five when she sees Keith and says, “I have to go make tinkle because I am a human.” She’s pretty funny.
