American Beauty to True Blood: Drama of Alan Ball Now on Offer at Monmouth University:
Have you ever wished that you could study True Blood at university? Well, now you can! Monmouth University has a new freshman seminar course on offer. It is entitled American Beauty to True Blood: Drama of Alan Ball and is being taught by Sheri Anderson (who also wrote a trivia book about True Blood).
This course is designed to help students transition from high school students to university students. While researching True Blood, Sheri Anderson realized just how much the values and lessons hidden within the vampire TV series could help students with one of the biggest upheavals in their young lives:
Many of them are living away from home for the first time, they are trying to figure out who they are as individuals and they are trying to adjust to new social surroundings and everything that transition includes … The reasons I thought this was appropriate for college students is that right now they are at a major turning point in their lives, where they are the new people and they are the ones trying to fit it. So seeing vampires trying to fit into society is funny, it’s dark and it’s interesting, but’s it’s also very human … ‘True Blood’ was able to tackle the very grown up issues dealing with fitting in to the main stream and stepping ‘out of the coffin. Depending through which lens you are viewing it, that could be a civil rights metaphor, it could be a gay rights metaphor or it could just be someone who is on the outside just trying to fit in.
During the this freshman seminar course, students are able to view three episodes of HBO’s True Blood and then are instructed to find journal articles and secondary source materials that relate to what they have learnt.
Surprisingly, this is not the first time Professor Anderson has taught True Blood related courses at Monmouth.

Find Out Where She Will Be Attending:
Fans of HBO’s True Blood will know author Charlaine Harris as the woman who created Sookie Stackhouse and Bon Temps in her book series, Southern Vampire Mysteries. As of the 30th of August 2014, Charlaine will touch down in London, England to kick off her UK tour for her latest book, Midnight Crossroad (published in March 2014).
From Charlaine Harris, the bestselling author who created Sookie Stackhouse the world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a new, darker world – populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that’s how the locals prefer it?
Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It’s a pretty standard dried-up western town.
There’s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There’s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there’s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he’s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own).
Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth . . .
Charlaine will start her tour with a book signing at Forbidden Planet. Her full schedule is bellow:
- 31st August – Forbidden Planet, London – Signing – 1-2pm
- 1st September – Waterstone’s Birmingham – 7-9pm
- 2nd September – Waterstone’s Manchester – 1-2pm
- 2nd September – Waterstone’s Liverpool – 6:30-8:30pm
- 3rd September – Waterstone’s Newcastle – 1-2pm
- 3rd September – Blackwell’s Edinburgh – 6:30-8:30pm
- 4th September – Waterstone’s York – 7-9pm
- 5th-7th September – FantasyCon (UK), York
As well as the above events, she will be attending the British Fantasy Convention, (Fantasycon 2014, 5 – 7th September, York) as a guest of honor author.

One of Australia’s Biggest Conventions Gets Two True Blood Stars:
Supanova in Australia can be likened to San Diego’s Comic Con as far as convention events go in the Southern Hemisphere. Each year the event runs over several weekends across multiple states in Australia. The upcoming Supanova event has confirmed that there will be at least two True Blood stars in attendance: Kristin Bauer van Straten (who plays vampire Pam) and Janina Gavankar (who played shapeshifter Luna Garza).
So far these stars have only been confirmed for the Brisbane and Adelaide events (which are being held in late November 2014), but there is always the possibility this will change closer to the event dates.
To book your tickets you can order online directly from the Supanova website by clicking here.
