Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of True Blood regarding this wonderful news! Here is the official press release from HBO.

HBO RENEWS HIT SERIES TRUE BLOOD FOR FOURTH SEASON

HBO has renewed the hit show TRUE BLOOD for a 12-episode fourth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Created by Alan Ball, the series will begin production of new episodes early next year in Los Angeles, with debut set for summer 2011.

“The new season of TRUE BLOOD is off to a terrific start, as enthusiasm for this unique show continues to build among both subscribers and critics,” noted Lombardo. “We’re looking forward to more chills from Alan Ball and his gifted team next year.”

“I am beyond thrilled to be able to continue working with this amazing cast and crew,” says Ball. “This is the most fun I have ever had.”

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, TRUE BLOOD takes place in the not-too-distant future, when vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source. The show follows the romance between waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and her boyfriend, 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), who went missing at the end of season two, and is now the object of a frantic search. Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy®-winning HBO series “Six Feet Under”) created and executive produces the show, which is based on the best-selling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

The 12-episode third season of TRUE BLOOD, which launched June 13, has already inspired critical raves, with Entertainment Weekly calling it “faster, sleeker, more vicious, more fun than it already was,” as well as “summer’s best TV.” USA Today hails the show as “fabulously wild,” while the Washington Post describes it as “electrifying.”

Season three credits: TRUE BLOOD was created by Alan Ball; based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris; executive producers, Alan Ball and Gregg Fienberg; co-executive producers, Brian Buckner, Nancy Oliver and Alexander Woo; supervising producer, Raelle Tucker; producer, Mark McNair.

Joe Manganiello’s ‘Werewolf’ Spit Wanted by Enthusiastic Fan

October 23, 2010

Fan Tries to Gather Joe Manganiello’s “Werewolf” Spit at Comic Con

It looks like vampire blood isn’t the only thing with curative properties. True Blood’s Joe Manganiello (Werewolf Alcide) was approached by a extremely enthusiastic fan at New York’s Comic Con earlier this month.

An odd woman crept up to Manganiello in an attempt to collect his spit. The unnamed woman seemed certain that his “werewolf” saliva had supernatural powers.
According to Manganiello, the strange fan “had heard werewolf saliva could heal any ailment.”

Luckily for Manganiello, security removed the woman before she got close enough to gather her prize. Lucky for True Blood fans, Manganiello’s Werewolf Alcide will be back in June 2011 as a regular.

Producer Judah Finds Inspiration in True Blood

September 17, 2010

Stephen Moyer, Anna Paquin, True Blood, Bill Compton, Sookie StackhouseTrue Blood is no longer simply a book series or television show, but rather a muse for many artists. Writers, painters, and musicians are all finding inspiration in the vampires of Bon Temps.

Recently, producer Judah has found a way to combine his love for True Blood and promotion for his new single Sundresses and Sandals.

By adding a True Blood inspired video treatment to the a promo clip for his song, Judah has been able to attract other fans of the show to his music.

A fan of the show himself, Judah bought his own camera, and hired a model to portray a Sookie Stackhouse role for the video. While the video was supposed to make its premiere in early September, Judah waited in order to showcase it alongside the Season 3 finale.

This is Judah’s second project under his own Simple Videos, a production company he and Bonita Star co-started. They were frustrated with video directors charging too much and not giving enough; through furstration cmae creation and the two have been creating videos with lots of heart and imagination.

The setting for Sundresses and Sandals was very important for Judah, who chose 14th Street and NW’s Donovan House because it was a dead ringer for the Dallas hotel featured in Season 2. In addition to enticing fans visually, Judah used quotes from the show to highlight his music. A line that is repeated throughout is whe Bill tells Sookie:

“I can smell the sunlight on your skin.”

When asked if his video idea stemmed from Snoop Dogg’s Oh Sookie, Judah explained that the video were very different as Snoop’s was focused on being funny, while his was trying to bring out the themes of the show as well as his own music.

It seems like True Blood has been sinking its teeth in more than just its Sunday night television spot!

True Blood Season 3 Finale Ratings

September 16, 2010

Bill Compton, Sookie Stackhouse, True Blood, Anna Paquin, Stephen MoyerThe ratings for the True Blood’s Season 3 finale have finally been revealed. The finale, Evil (Is Going On) was able to pull in 5.4 million viewers at 9 p.m and an additional 1.1 million during its encore at 11 p.m.

While the numbers were down by 60,000 viewers from the last episode, the season finale did increase by 5% when compared to the Season 2 finale. Though the VMAs on MTV took the lead Sunday night with a 6.2 rating for adults 18-49, True Blood was able to post a 3.0 rating for adults 18-49; this is quite impressive when it was going up against an award ceremony that had the charming Joe Manganiello presenting.

If we don’t count the finale, True Blood was able to pull in 12.7 million viewers this season, which include linear plays, DVR recordings and HBO on Demand. This is quite impressive; who knew a little vampire show could gain so many followers?

What exactly do all these numbers mean? Well, it means more of Sookie’s fae revelations, more of Bill’s southern charm, more of Lala’s cooking, lots of weres, lots of witches, and more summer nights with Eric Northman!
