Charlaine Harris Confirms a 12th Sookie Stackhouse Novel

January 18, 2011 by

Excellent News for Fans of the Novels:

Charlaine Harris Author of Sookie Stackhouse NovelsCharlaine Harris, author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, recently confirmed to fans on her Facebook page that there will in fact be a twelfth Sookie novel. She began work on it recently, but commented that she “should have started it in November, but I had to take some time off.” With Sookie novels usually debuting in May, this means that fans can look forward to Dead Reckoning this May, which will be the eleventh book, and then the as yet untitled twelfth book in May of 2012 (that’s just speculation, based on the release dates of all the other novels, and Harris’s own comment that “Sookie is ALWAYS in May — the full length novels, that is.”)

What’s Coming Out This Year?

This year, Harris has several projects slated for release that should excite both fans of her Sookie Stackhouse novels and die hard Truebies. As previously mentioned, Dead Reckoning, the eleventh Sookie novel, will be released on May 3, 2011. The first chapter is available on Harris’s official website. The cover, released in November, gives plenty of tidbits to speculate about – Sookie is alone on the covers, surrounded by burning pages falling from the sky.

In September of this year, The Sookie Stackhouse Companion will be released. Originally slated for an earlier release, it got pushed back due to confusion amongst the contributors. The books promises an all new Sookie novella, and an exclusive interview with Alan Ball. Although Harris has stated the release is scheduled for September, Amazon.com has the official date listed as August 31. 2011. I’m sure no one will complain about getting their hands on it a day early!

Both books are available for pre-order now. Are you looking forward to them?

I really enjoy your books i am looking forward to the new addition to this series. I can actually say that your books are one of the few that i can read over and over again until the next one comes out. Thank you for being consistent with the amount of entertainment you bring from your books.

  • I just finished Dead Reckoning, so I was looking around to see when the next installment might be coming out.  I’d like to see Sookie with Sam; he’s always had a thing for her and he’s mortal, at least.  Vampires are all very well and good, but a warm body is a very nice companion on cold nights.

    Dear Ms Harris
Please dont ever kill off Bill Compton or take him out of the love triangle.  I love the series but mainly because there is that crazy interplay between Bill-Sookie-Eric.  I like the suspense of always wondering whether Sookie will get back with Bill and how Eric would figure in all of it.  To be honest I got a little bored with the Eric storyline and wanted more Bill action.

  • I think your books are amazing, I finished all eleven books in a week and I am really looking forward to book 12.

  • The Sookie Stackhouse Novels are one of the best series of books i have ever read! It took me four weeks to read all 11! I love Eric, but i think Sookie needs to realise that she is going to get old and he will not, and she wants kids, and he cant give them to her! So i think they will part ways, either because she wants to, or she has to (Because of the marriage thingo with Oklahoma). I am really wishing for Quinn to return to the story. He came to her house to have a proper talk with her, but Bill interfered! I want her to think she made a mistake letting him go, and hopefully they reunite in the next books (hopefully at the marriage of Eric with the Queen of Oklahoma). I have always wanted Sam and Sookie to get together, but recently, i havent been feeling the same. I hope they stay good friends!
I am really excited for the next book to come out, im counting down! I never want it to end, but i know it has to! It brings a tear to my eye!

  • I keep thinking she’s going to use the CD to try to turn Eric human……Ms. Harris has already stated that her plan is NOT for Sookie to become a vampire, or for it to get all “twilighty” with a half vamp-half human baby. I am really excited for Book 12, i have the whole series, and I keep wishing they came out more often. :p of course they probably wouldnt be as good. But I am impatient, yes I am.

      *******SPOILER DR********

There has been a lot of debate on Eric turning human. I doubt it because Mr. C said it can’t change what you are. Also, Eric would hate to be human because that would mean a loss of power. He would be an easy target for his enemies. Being a vampire is a part of who Eric is and if Sookie would want to change Eric, then she does not accept him as he is. Eric would end up resenting Sookie for it. I don’t know what the CD will be used for but I do not believe it will be used for that purpose. Furthermore, Sookie told Eric that she would never want to be turned against her will show could she do that to Eric. If she wants him, she has to accept all of his vampire nature.

I wish that the last two would come out 6 months apart instead of a year so we don’t have to wait as long. The Companion book is supposed to come out in August, I think.

Ms Harris, thank you for Sookie! She is capable of protecting herself and loved ones. A true southern belle with the beauty and tenacity of Scarlett O’hara and more gumption and guts then Hillary Clinton.
I’m not sure how you were able to give voice to this ultimate woman. When I read that you had lost your mom. I lost mine on Thanksgiving day. Sookie really helped me. She has the poise and confidence to get out of her own way. She doesn’t revel in pity parties for herself. She feels all the emotions but doesn’t back down or away from her losses or her fears. I know she’s pure fiction but I have a true respect for this real woman! She is not a size zero and she actually likes her body and her mind just as they are.
Thank you for breathing life into Sookie. She’s who i aspire to be. I’m sorry for your loss!

  • Ms. Harris, you are spectacular, charismatic, and intriguing. Ending this series would be bitter sweet. Thank you for entertaining me and I look forward to book 12. I finished dead reckoning less than ten hours after purchase. I hope the next edition will not only clear up Claude’s true intentions, but prove that the beautiful viking un-dead is true with his intentions, though his last coarse of action leads me to believe I will be disappointed. Vampire Politics! Hogwash.

    • Jaxx

I’m with you Beth. I am too hoping the Viking will figure out a way to get out of the vampire politics but I too feel I will heartbroken. 11 1/2 more months until book 12.

        Hi Jaxx,
        ******SPOILER*******

Sookie is a fighter so I don’t think that she is going to bow out gracefully and let some other woman claim her man. Nothing is set in stone so we could end up devestated. I still have hope and there was a lot of growth from Sookie in this book. In the past, she would have run away when things got tough. Sookie has to decide if the relationship is worth it or not. Are the happy times worth all of the pain that comes with it. I think Sookie is starting to consider herself a supe more than a human.

As for the biting, I think Eric was po’d at Sookie for being a hypocrite like he said. He was an a-hole for doing it but he was fed up with her so he lashed out.

        • ~ Caitlin

Another thing is that I think there might be a showdown between Niall and Eric at some point. Eric mentioned in From Dead to Worse that if it ever came to a war or something he would take out Niall.

Well the blood bond is finally broken and now Sookie knows that she ” loves him all on her own.”

I think there is more to Amelia than meets the eye. I always liked her but I don’t trust her after this book.

I feel so awful for Pam in this book and she is a good friend to Sookie.

          • Jaxx

            Hello Caitlin!!

It’s funny you should bring up those points because the Trubies and I at work were discussing them also this morning.

            **SPOILERS**

I also had a suspicion that Claude/Dermot/Niall want to get Sookie pregnant b/c the fae women are less than the fae men. It has been mentioned over and over. BUT, being that Claude and Dermot are related to Sookie, I was hoping CH wouldn’t go there. Since Sam did warn Sookie that relatives don’t matter to the fae, I guess it could be a possibility that we could go there after all.

I’ve also wondered this too, since Jason and Dermot look so much alike, could it be possible that Dermot had an affair with Sookie’s mother? Maybe Sookie’s mother didn’t even realize what was going on, sort of like Adele and Fintan. Did Niall put a spell on Dermot b/c of this? Just throwing this out there. And, are Claude and Dermot living with Sookie to make her more fae at Niall’s request? I don’t think I like Niall much anymore either.

I wondered why Quinn is scheduled to make an appearance in the next book or 2. For the wedding I guess.

Eric is trying to get out of this situation. Sookie has the “cd” in her possession. You are right that it is used for love, but Sookie asked why Adele didn’t use it on Linda when she had cancer. Mr. C couldn’t tell her why so I guess it may be used on loved ones too. Don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see.

The next 2 books will be interesting for sure. There still are options to get out of this situation. I have this sinking feeling we are in for a Shakespearean type ending though.

Is anyone else’s typing extremely slow today????

i remember she don`t prefer happy ending btw….
i choose sookie with eric becoz…..so much thrill between them both. not boring at all…huhu

I suppose this means that Ms. Harris Knows WHO Sookie will end up with? Quinn? Alcide? Eric?….Bill? ( a longshot,i know)
perhaps even Sam? I hope the book series goes on for a while longer. Maybe CH will make Sookie end off Alone or even with a New guy..perhaps 1 whom we’ve yet to meet? maybe start dating human guys again?? Who knows? right? I like Quinn the best for her. #1: Hes Not attracted to her for her sweet fae blood, #2:Hes Not interested in utilizing her for her abilities #3: He doesnt care about her past….especially with the Vamps~~~That says a Lot!
Both Eric and Bill were deceptive and manipulating …to an extent. Alcide seemed like a good match for her,But,He also had a “darker” side and he had his Own Issues. He also felt betrayed by her and just couldnt see past his Own anger and hurt!
Sam would probably be the best for her. Hes Always been there for her…Always been a friend and a source of support.
She has a blood bond with Eric…and perhaps a deep bond with Bill, too. Funny thing though, Of All of them,Bill seemed to be more of a soul mate for her. She had a relationship with Eric..on and off and he would protect her and help her but she never really knew Where she stood with him…or even IF she stood with him! I hope CH will choose either Bill or Sam to be her “partner”. JMHO Quinn, I think, was good for her but who knows where she will go with that

  • jaxx

Ms. Harris, I will read them as long as you write them, but please promise me when this story has run its course, you will gracefully bow out. I don’t want this to turn campy or unreadable. Whoever you have slated Sookie to end up with or not, is ok with me.
