dead-and-gonenewOn Tuesday, May 5, 2009, Charlaine Harris was on the chatroom to discuss her books, Book 9 of her Sookie Stackhouse series, DEAD AND GONE and Book 7 of her Aurora Teagarden Mystery series, LAST SCENE ALIVE. Natasha joined in the chatroom discussion and was most gracious to share with us here at and with all Charlaine Harris and True Blood fans,  a transcript of some of the discussion that took place.  Thank you so very much Natasha for providing this for everyone.  Now here is a transcript of some of the questions and answers with Charlaine Harris.

EricsLover: Charlaine, have you decided whos gonna end up with Sookie?
Charlaine Harris: Yes, I have.

alainanoel: Charlaine, how do you plan your series…or do you? Do you just plan on writing a certain amount of books or ?
Charlaine Harris: I’m afraid planning is my weak point. Toni and Leann are much more solid than I am in this direction. I just keep writing until I get bored.

natasha: Hi Ms Harris, Just wanted to say that I really love the Sookie Stackhouse series I am totally addicted to it and I wanted to know if you have an idea of how many more books will there be in the series?
Charlaine Harris: Natasha, I’m thinking at least three, after the one I’m writing.

alainanoel: This is for all the authors..who are you favorite characters that you’ve written?
Charlaine Harris: Lily Bard, for me. But she was very hard to write. There are things that interest me about all my characters, though.

badbarb: This is for everyone, when you kill someone off in a book do you find it therapeutic?
Charlaine Harris: Absolutely. It’s a great day, when I kill someone.

alainanoel: I don’t like that Victor Madden Charlaine. I hope he’s on the hit list someday!
Charlaine Harris: Victor is a very twisty character, alaina. I was just writing about him today.

EricsLover: when can we expect the next Sookie book? im sory its just that im hook on it!
Charlaine Harris: Well . . .it came out today, Ericslover. You knew that, right? So the next one will come out a year from now.

mary f: You’ve all not regretted killing a character off then?
Charlaine Harris: I only regret it when readers get all bent out of shape about it. Sorry!

alainanoel: Charlaine..where did you get Sookie’s name from? Is it a made up name or did you know someone with that name before?
Charlaine Harris: Oh, I liked Sookie’s gran. But she had to die. Sookie is an old southern nickname, alaina. My grandmother’s best friend was called Sookie.
ToniLPKelner: I like the way Bill on the show says, “Sookie.”
Charlaine Harris: Truly, I had no idea it was so unusual. Yeah, he does give it that extra something, doesn’t he? I’m afraid I told Stephen Moyer how attractive I found that line.

loleaf: Charlaine I love the book series and am on Chapter 7 of Dead and Gone, Do you have any say about how the hbo series plays out?
Charlaine Harris: No. Alan does the series: I do the books. That’s our arrangement! So far, so good. Actually, we don’t have any idea how long the series will last on HBO.

badbarb: This is for all the authors what do you have coming out next?
Charlaine Harris: I have a short story in Toni and mine’s anthology, a short story in the Mystery Writers of America anthology, and the next Harper Connelly will be out in early November. Oh, and a novella in MUST LOVE HELLHOUNDS.

ToniLPKelner: Charlaine, will A TOUCH OF DEAD include the stories from our anthologies?
Charlaine Harris: Why, yes, Toni, in fact it will include those stories. All the stories about Sookie. I’ve written some that feature a vampire named Dahlia Lynley-Chivers, and those will NOT be in A TOUCH OF DEAD. Which is a pity . . .I really like those.

Nia, how carefully did you read the books? Bill has been honest? Really?

  • EricsLover

lol lol i think we are gonna have to agreed to disagreed as u said!!! lol…bye!!

  • lee

I’ve just started From Dead To Worse, after reading the last 6 books in about a month….First…I’m always wanting more after each and every book. Second…i’m totally “in love” with Eric but Bill’s ok too, and although i have no clue what happens in 8 or 9 or the future, i think u can guess whom i want sookie to end up with. Third…in book 2 and hopefully season 2, i just want one tiny thing to at least be true in book and show…that Eric wears a pink tank top to the um..”party”…Alexander is so hot + Eric’s personality= Me speechless & drooling…

    • EricsLover

LOL i wanna see that too!!!!!….let me give u an advice, read them slow cus then u are gonna be like me,i read them all and now i have nothing to read…another thing im almost sure sookie and eric are gonna end up together,if they dont well that just gonna be wrong!!….

      • Nia

Yes Eric is hot but how can anyone discount Bill so easily? Sookies’s first love and lover. He has truly never betrayed her willingly. How can she so blatantly forget him? I see some clues that she is softeneing toward him. Could this be a subtle sign? Is Charlene H. playing with us? Possibly. We won’t find out for a while I guess. I have only gotten through half of DAG. I can’t help but root for the underdog, Bill. It’s the hopeless or hopeful romantic in me that wants Bill and Sookie to get back together.

        • EricsLover

Here is the thing Nia,i dont know if u noticed but Bill was only a way to get things started, what she feels for him is more lust than love, she does care…Another thing, the whole books has been about(basically) Eric and Sookie, how they feel about each other and how they try to not to show it, i think Bill is just there to be there… and yes she is softeneing toward him but thats just Charlaine playing with our heads as u mentioned….but at the end of the day,we are just gonna have to wait and see,i dont think Bill and Sookie are gonna end up together tho.

          • Nia

I guess we will have to basically agree to disagree. Which is the beauty of the written word, we can interpret as we see fit. Also adding in the visual stimulation of the show (I am a Bill/Stephen fan, but I enjoy Eric as well). I will agree with you when pertaining to certain points. First of all Bill was her first but Sookie had to explore her newfound sexuality. You go girl, good for her. Especially since Bill was becoming foolishly preoccupied with his pc(books spoiler alert). Who could resist 2 big strong men in Quin and Eric. It’s true Eric is predominant in the books over Bill(spoiler). But Eric is also a bit of a player and not colmpletely honest with Sookie (end of DAG, she’s killing him with her accusations?). Bill has always been honest and professes true love. In the end of DAG, I still say Bill, but I could be wrong. Charlene has done well to leave us so, we will have to wait with great anticipation for the next installment. I have enjoyed the debate with you Ericslover. We can keep each other clued in. Stay “True” and have a great next season of the show. It looks like Eric will be lots of trouble this season, but isn’t that what its all about, FUN!

  • EricsLover

Charlaine was such a sweetheart!!!!, i really enjoy it!!!!…Im kind of afraid that she may have choose Sam or somebody else to end up with Sookie, sinse Sookie wants a normal life, kids and all…Well im hoping for the best…All in all it was a great chat!!!

    • EricsLover

I just finished with the book(took half a day to read it) and im not happy!!! i cant believe i’ll have to wait a WHOLE YEAR to find out who Neill meant!!!!….too much 🙁

  • Debra

OMG! I just finished reading DAG and it was a complete shocker! It was so much darker than the others. The others had violence, but in the mix had sensuality and lust, this book is deep. I don’t want to write something and spoil it for others, but I am just left in awe about it. I am not a crying type of person, but this one really hit me toward the end. Everyone definitely needs to read this book. All I have to say is two thumbs up and a warning, if you read this one it will leave you wide open with a feeling wanting more, that Charlaine Harris for you, she is for one to leave you wanting more, I guess thats why I am addicted to all her writings.
