‘Dead Reckoning’ Released May 3, 2011

Dead Reckoning Cover

Although it is still over six months until the 11th book in Charlaine Harris‘ popular Sookie Stackhouse series comes out, the cover for ‘Dead Reckoning’ has already been released.  Fans of HBO‘s True Blood are aware that the Sookie Stackhouse novels are the foundation of our favorite show and are excited to read the next installment in the series.

Synopsis

Here is a brief synopsis of what we can expect in this latest book.

“With her knack for being in trouble’s way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte’s, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. But Sookie suspects otherwise and she and Sam work together to uncover the culprit – and the twisted motive for the attack. But her attention is divided. Though she can’t ‘read’ vampires, Sookie knows her lover Eric Northman and his ‘child’ Pam well – and she realises that they are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, she is drawn into the plot -which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human – and that there is a new Queen on the board . . . ”

It would be nice if Sookie could go one book without being fatally wounded. Hopefully the book won’t disappoint. Sookie will never have a vamp baby CH made that clear. I wish vamps could have kids though because Sookie/Eric would have a beautiful baby. I’d love to see how Eric would react to that but this isn’t Twilight. They created synthetic blood so it makes sense that scientist in the world of True Blood would think of a way for vamps to have babies. The issue would come up. Vampires defy logic to begin with.

P.S. I can’t wait till Breaking Dawn comes out. I’m glad it will be a two parter.

I think the cover of the book looks cool.I cant wait to read book 11.I think it will be good.I just got into watching True Blood and I think it is the bomb,it is a little bit different than the book but it is good.I hope Eric and Sookie will get together they have feeling for each other you can tell.Bill really hurt her this time I don’t know if she will forgive him this time? I do hope they go by book 4 this time.Because Eric loosing his memory was the best part of book 4, plus the witches and fairy’s.

I’m interested to see what all the paper is about because the original title of this book was said to be “Dead Letters”. I also find it interesting that she is alone on this cover…
    Can’t Wait!

Hi Ashley. When book 11 was originally titled “Dead Letters”, I had a theory that Sookie was going to find some old letters from Gran in her attic or a diary or journal that would explain the whole “fae” secret to Sookie. The title “Dead Reckoning” could still support that theory b/c reckoning is working out or settling something. Could be Sookie and Eric working things out too. Maybe the papers on fire represent something Sookie found out about. Could be Gran’s secrets, a secret about Eric, Pam, vampire politics, etc. CH went into great detail in the last books about territories and dividing them. She did not put that in there as a filler. Eric told Sookie to pay strict attention to what he was saying even though Sookie seemed bored with it all. It will come to mean something in this book or future books. I guess we’ll have to wait until May to find out. 🙂

CH’s covers always intrigue me. They usually strongly hint as to what’s in store. She is alone on this cover and upside down which could mean a lot of things. Sookie’s world has been turned upside down??? Also, papers all around her are on fire, probably the bombing at Merlotte’s but could also mean other things as well. The plot sounds interesting too. I think this book will definitely test the Eric/Sookie relationship as we know it and I hope the blood bond is broken so we will finally know once and for all if this is true love on both sides or just the bond holding these two together. I also find it interesting that she is working closely with Sam. We haven’t seen them work closely together in a couple books now. Could this be a prelude to the end of the book series??? Only time will tell and I am looking forward to this book. I think it will hopefully answer a lot of questions. YAY!!!

I don’t think this is my favorite cover in the series. I really liked the last cover with the rose on it. The artist does a wonderful job with the covers. I don’t hate the cover but content is what counts so it’s not a big deal. I think CH said she would break the blood bond in the 11th or 12th book. Most likely, it will be this one. It might be good for Eric and Sookie to take a break. Maybe that will lead Sookie to realize that she really wants to be with Eric. It’s possible. The blood bond has run it’s course. I’m ready for it to be broken because all Sookie does is blame everything on the blood bond. I don’t believe the only thing that attracts Sookie to Eric is the bond. Is it possible that Sookie likes Eric because he is intelligent, charming, funny, and easy on the eyes? Plus Sookie liked Eric before the “blood bond”. It is possible and probably the case that CH is setting Sam/Sookie. It would be so predictable if they ended up together. I see them as more of just friends. Thats just my opinion. I’m excited to read the next book. When does the companion book come out? I heard the release date for that was pushed back. I wonder when the first chapter of “Dead Reckoning” will be posted? I wonder why the new Queen won’t care about Sookies powers? That could either be a good or bad thing. I’m leaning towards bad because nothing seems to go Sookies way. I hope they succeed in getting rid of Victor. He is a thorn in their sides.

Hi Caitlin, I love your posts, they always make me think ahead and I like that. LOL. Yes, despite what others have said, I also think Sookie was attracted to Eric long before the blood bond. She just didn’t act on it right away. She decided to “try it out” when Eric had amnesia b/c she probably thought Eric would never remember their time together, but, of course, she was wrong.

No date so far on the companion book as of yesterday on Amazon. I am anxiously awaiting that release as well.

Regarding the new queen and not caring about Sookie’s powers, I’m also thinking it’s a bad sign. She might have a telepath of her own. Hopefully she didn’t find out about Hunter. I’m wondering if Barry the Bellboy will resurface again??? Could he be working for the new Queen since the Rhodes incident??? CH likes to bring back characters in later books I’ve noticed.

        Time will tell. 🙂

          Thanks jaxx !,

I think the same thing about your posts. They are always so insightful as are many of the posts on this sight. I never thought that the new queen could have found out about Hunter. I think Eric has his suspicions about Hunter being a telepath. Maybe Sookie should just tell Eric about Hunter so he can try to protect him. I think Eric like the little boy. I wonder what will become of Hunter in the show? Maybe, Sookie will end up with Hunters dad. I really like Hunters dad. I think he’s scared of Sookie though. You know I want Sookie with Eric. Yes, I think CH said Barry would make an appearance in the book. The companion book would have to come out before the 11th book because some of the short stories tie in with the 11th book. At least I think they do. Here’s another thought, I remember CH saying that she is going to put a series of letter or emails between Eric/Bill in the companion book so maybe that has something to do with it. I like your idea about the letters being Grans. Doesn’t Sookie still have to clean the attic? I’d love to find out more about Gran. What about Claude?
