Denis O’Hare on Broadway

What will the Vampire King of Mississippi do after the filming of Season 3 of True Blood? Broadway, of course. According to the New York Post, Denis O’Hare will play alongside Brendan Fraser in Simon Bent’s Elling, which will be directed by Doug Hughes, known for his work in Doubt. Joining the cast is Jennifer Coolidge, known for her work in A Mighty Wind and Best in Show.

Denis O’Hare is a pro when it comes to theater; not only did he receive a Tony nomination for his work as Charles Guiteau in the revival Assassins, but won a Tony for his performance in Take Me Out. His other Broadway credits include: Inherit the Wind, Sweet Charity, Major Barbara, Cabaret and Racing Demon.

Jennifer Coolidge has also appeared on Broadway in her performance in the revival of The Women. On the other hand, Elling will be Brendan Fraser’s Broadway debut. He’s known more for his on screen roles in Gods and Monsters, Crash, and The Mummy to name a few. Brendan Fraser will help premiere the play in New York at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre; this is a big move for the London produced play.

The play is an adaption of a 2001 Norwegian film; O’Hare will be playing the title role with Fraser portraying a 40 year old virgin and Coolidge plays his girlfriend. The New York Daily explains Elling to be the story of:

“two inmates from a mental institution who, under the supervision of a social worker, are given a shot at living on their own.”

Although no official announcement has been made, True Blood fans are getting ready to hit Broadway to support their Mississippi King.
