Evan Rachel Wood Talks About the Queen

August 27, 2009 by

evan-rachel-wood-true-blood_319x287A bloody foot was all we saw at the frustratingly early end of Episode 10, but this Sunday, “Frenzy” promises a formal introduction to Evan Rachel Wood as Queen Sophie-Anne, the vampire monarch of Louisiana. Bill went to her for help in defeating Maryann, but things are probably going to be much more complicated than we think–they always are.

Marc Malkin of E!Online interviewed Evan about the Queen, and she offered up a few teasers that fill the imagination with all sorts of possibilities.

The questions were mostly about who she is going to be hooking up with. While she wouldn’t tell whether Sophie-Anne gets with either Bill or Eric, she had this to say:

“Well, I don’t know if I am having sex with anyone yet, but I certainly have a steamy scene with someone that I don’t think you’d really expect. So it will be a little fun.”

But, Evan did give a straightforward answer when asked if she is on Team Eric or Team Bill:

“I would say, Team AlexEric! Whoops.”

Most of us have probably heard that the Queen likes female companionship, but she could end up being intimate with anybody:

“She’s not necessarily a lesbian. Her human partner is a girl, but I’m pretty sure she goes both ways. I think vampires are like that in general.”

Since she’s going to be a recurring character in Season 3, Sophie-Anne has the potential to mix things up for all of the characters.

Evan also shared how she got the part on True Blood:

“I watched the first season and loved the show, so I got in touch with Alan Ball and said, ‘Keep an eye out for anything that might pop up.’ I thought it was a long shot, but then later on I got a call saying they needed a queen…I said yes, even before I read the script. I didn’t really care.”

So, even though we don’t know what Alan Ball has planned for Queen Sophie-Anne, it is definitely going to be crazier and more surprising than whatever we expect–Season 2 has taught us that much!!

You are obviously welcome to not like ERW. I honestly like her portrayal of the Queen. I find her to be right on with her mannerisms and her craziness. She is cold and calculating beyond that glossy Queeny bit*c exterior. I think a lot of people judge ERW’s acting skills by who she is engaged to. ERW’s private life has nothing to do with her acting abilities. I support Alan Ball on his selection of ERW as the Queen of Louisiana.

I like MM he is such a poser. Alice Cooper was doing it long before he was.

Yeah, I think she is on team eric cause she has her eyes set on Alexander. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are on the cover of some magazine and dating soon. I think they should’ve chose someone who was naturally pretty and didn’t need all the makeup to look the part. I was reading an interview in some magazine and looking at pics, she has so much makeup on and still needs work. I hate that she is a paris hilton like, she is not someone i would want to be compared to. I still think it should’ve been someone more like the book thing. Deborah Ann Woll is a natural, red head beauty. Its like she had to dye her hair red to get the part?

Actually Deborah Ann Woll is a natural blonde. She dyes her hair red. I agree with you and also think that ERW has her eyes on Alexander.

I’m actually glad that Alan Ball chose such a talented actress, even though she doesn’t necessarily look like the book description of Sophie-Anne. It worked out really well with Anna, who couldn’t have been farther from Sookie in appearance before she dyed her hair blonde and got a spray tan! Evan Rachel Wood is only 21-years old, and she’s already proven herself with movies like Thirteen, Across the Universe, and The Wrestler. Granted, she seems a little strange in her personal life (I will never understand anyone wanting to date Marilyn Manson, much less a teenage girl like she was at the time).

It may be that she has a crush on Alex, but she has been dating Shane West for several months.

I said that I agreed with Kara G but just about the part of ERW having her eyes on Alex. For the rest, I’m actually looking forward to see Evan playing the queen. I think she is very talented and I have liked her in every movie role that I’ve seen her so far.

ERW, welcome to Team Eric!! 😉

I think Evan Rachel Wood is perfect as the Queen Sophie-Anne. A cross between Paris Hilton and Hannibal Lechter. Sounds like an awesome choice on Alan Ball’s part. He has assembled an truly amazing cast to date and I think this addition will only enhance the show. Anxiously awaiting this Sunday’s episode, to see where Alan Ball will be taking us next.

  • I must admit I am very pleased with her being cast as the queen.
I am however a little worried as to how they are going to write her character in during the third season. I’m currently reading the 6th book and I’ve just met the queen in detail so it strikes me as odd to be meeting her so soon; but it makes sense because of marry-ann and I’m glad that they wrote mary-ann as a larger character… i don’t really know why I just love, hate and fear her all at the same time.

So happy that she’s on Team Eric yay.

Interesting choice for the Queen, considering in the books she had a whole different look. The jury is still out for me on this actress since the only thing I remember her from was pages of magazines dating Manson ? Back when she was all goth. I don’t really think she fits the role but I guess time will tell. I just can’t erase her goth image from my head and wonder what the heck she was thinking dating Manson? so weird!
