Joe Manganiello Thinks Alcide and Sookie are a Perfect Match

August 8, 2010 by

While in New York recently, Joe Manganiello caught up with Jarett Wieselman from the New York Post’s PopWrap to talk about True Blood Season 3, Alcide, Sookie and Alcide’s crazy ex-girlfriend, Debbie Pelt.

First up, Joe described Alcide’s story arc in Season 3.

When we meet him that’s when his arc begins.  He’s had to fight this monster, this beast inside of him and live inside of a society [where] he can’t be himself; [where] he can’t stand up straight and be as strong as he is.  As he lets the beast out and it takes him over more and more, it’s about his struggle to control, to fight against that power and whether or not it will corrupt him entirely.

Going by the previews, it looks like Sookie and Debbie Pelt go head-to-head in the next episode and Joe confirms this, joking:

Yeah, there’s a pretty bad-ass chick fight.

We’ve already seen that there’s lots of chemistry between Sookie and Alcide and given Sookie’s recent troubles with Bill, maybe this will lead on to something more.  Joe isn’t giving away much, but he says:

“I think in a perfect world Alcide and Sookie are a really good match.”

We know that Alcide will be a regular in Season 4 of  True Blood and Joe is hoping that, as in the books, we get to meet Alcide’s “crazy, wild” werewolf dad.  If Joe could pick a dream actor to play his dad, who would it be?

“I think Jeff Bridges would be awesome. Sam Elliot would also be pretty cool.”

In interviews Joe often talks about his Mom and credits her with passing on the genes behind his fabulous physique.  She is also a big fan of the show.

“My Mom loves the show and she’s really cute the way she talks about all the characters like she knows them.  She’s really mad at Bill right now [although] deep down she believes he is a nice person.  But she does love my character and she is responsible for my genetics. I mean you can only work out so much and then you have to have the genetics, so I thank my Mom.”

Joe had to maintain a strict diet and workout regime while filming, but admits he did lash out a bit once True Blood wrapped.

“I was at Disneyland for the All-Star [baseball] game a few weeks ago and they have this little New Orleans jazz gumbo place and I went [there] for breakfast, like, two mornings in a row.”

And will Joe give away any hints about what’s in store for our favorite characters in the remaining episodes of Season 3?

“Well, I ask Alan [Ball] all the time what’s coming up in the next episode and Alan’s answer is always, “There’s going to be a lot of blood, there’s going to be a lot of sex and a lot of people are going to die.”  So, all those three.”
