Radio Interview With True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard
September 15, 2014 by Rachel Tsoumbakos
Alexander Skarsgard Rings in From London to Chat on Ralphie Tonight:
Alexander Skarsgard (who played viking vampire Eric Northman in HBO’s True Blood) discusses the morality of his latest role in the movie adaption of Lois Lowry’s dystopian novel, The Giver.
For fans of the book, Alexander will play the part of Jonas’s father. He is a character who, according to our moral standards is possibly a character who is morally corrupt. Alexander Skarsgard argues against this opinion as, for his character, his moral standing is based on a criteria that is vastly different to ours. You can view the partial synopsis for this movie below:
The setting is a utopian society in the year 2048. After “a big war”, the community had decided to get rid of colors, therefore different races and feelings. All the citizens have had the memories from before erased from their minds. The communities are run by the Elders, a circle of senior citizens who have supreme authority over everyone’s way of life.
Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) is an 18-year-old about to graduate from school with his best friends Fiona (Odeya Rush) and Asher (Cameron Monaghan). Jonas’ father and mother (Alexander Skarsgård and Katie Holmes) are anxious at what path their son will be chosen for. At the graduation celibration where the entire community attends, Jonas is skipped over until the Chief Elder (Meryl Streep) awards him as ‘Receiver of Memory’ as his future. According to the law, the Receiver must receive the only memories of before from the past receiver, The Giver (Jeff Bridges). The Receiver of Memory is the only individual in the community who has the memories and must advise the Chief Elder, and the other Elders, on the decisions for the community, who are unaware of anything that happened before their community.

Alexander also talks about jamming with Taylor Swift on the set of The Giver – or his lack of it!
