The True Blood Beauties Open up to Collider

Deborah Ann Woll, Sam Trammell, and Rutina Wesley at a book signing for the True Blood Comic Book series, All Together NowTrue Blood‘s Rutina Wesley (Tara Thornton) and Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby) may not necessarily join forces on camera, but off camera the duo enjoys getting together to promote their hard work on the vampire drama. On February 26th, Wesley, Woll, and Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) were on hand at a book signing at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles to celebrate the huge success of the first True Blood comic series, All Together Now.  The three cast members signed copies and greeted fans, and Wesley and Woll gave an exclusive interview to Collider where they gushed about the books and dished on season four (they’re just finishing up shooting episode four).

There’s been a lot of news lately revolving around what it is about True Blood that lends itself to other mediums, and both Wesley and Woll gave their opinion as to what this is for the comic book series:

Wesley: “Because it’s fantastical. You’ve got vampires and other supernatural beings, so I think it’s perfect for a comic book setting. I think this is only going to increase the audience and it gives people who are die-hard True Blood fans something else to delve into, when the show’s not on.”

Woll: “I think a lot of drama, nowadays, is character-based and development-based, but True Blood is very plot oriented. I think there are great characters, but something is always happening. You never end one episode at the place where you began it, and what’s great about that is that you can tell that kind of story in any medium, whether you’re reading it, drawing it or filming it. There’s an advantage to it being a very fast-moving show.”

Woll gave some insight as to how season four will differ from previous seasons, and it definitely sounds like more struggles will be highlighted:

“I think things are more complex this season. We’re playing more with these being greyer times. There is no black and white, or good and bad. Everybody has a little of that in them… There’s a lot more of the politics coming into play. Vampires have to be very careful in a society where they witness Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) commit an act of terrorism, essentially. How do you then become accepted again?”

Wesley gave a little teaser about her character, Tara Thornton, who ended season three with much shorter hair, a darker outlook on life, and hoping to leave behind the horror that she had endured in Bon Temps:

“There will be a little bit of happiness, but then there will be some drama that’s going to set in. She’s going to go off in some other directions, but I think she’s definitely a lot more stable. She finds her feet. It’s a new Tara, without saying too much. I think people are going to really like where she’s going.”
