Alexander Skarsgård Auctions DVD in Support of Amnesty International

November 3, 2010

True Blood Actor Offers Up Rare Collector’s Item:

Alexander Skarsgård, True Blood's Eric Northman, at the 2003 premiere of 'To Kill A Child'

Alexander Skarsgård is continuing his support of human rights group Amnesty International by participating in another auction benefiting the non-profit Nobel Prize-winning organization.

Previously, Skarsgård, True Blood‘s Eric Northman, has auctioned off his copies of True Blood scripts in support of Amnesty International.

This time, up for auction is a DVD of the English version of the award-winning short film, ‘Att döda ett barn (To Kill a Child),’ which Skarsgård and Björne Larson wrote and directed. Penned by Swedish author Stig Dagerman, this famous short story, ‘To Kill A Child’  was released as a film in 2003, going on to win both the GRAND PRIX and International PRESS AWARD at the Odense International Film Festival that same year.

The short story that this is based on is an extremely powerful account of a day, supposedly normal and fun, that will lead to the death of a child due to careless speeding…Well shot, and very well directed – this is an excellent short that really captures the spirit of the piece, and is incredibly moving in its shots of a small child and two families who are changed forever.

For a short it carries real weight and is a triumph. – IMDb

Rare DVD Never Sold in the U.S.

Narrated in English by Alexander Skarsgård’s father, veteran actor Stellan Skarsgård, the DVD was given to for auction with both director’s autographs. It is described as a rare collector’s item as in addition to the English narration, the English version of this DVD has never been and never will be sold in the United States.

The auction for the ‘To Kill A Child’ DVD ends November 8, 2010 so be sure to get in on the bidding action while you still can!

Guillermo Del Toro & Hogan Offer Signed Copy of Latest Book to Benefit Amanda Foundation

October 26, 2010

The cast of True Blood aren’t the only ones involved in the vampire genre who are excited to auction off an item for charity. Guillermo del Toro, most known for his work on Pan’s Labyrinth and the Hellboy [film] series, and writer Chuck Hogan, author of Prince of Thieves: A Novel, have graciously agreed to help The Amanda Foundation by allowing to auction off a signed copy of their book, The Fall: Book Two of The Strain Trilogy!

The auction will run from October 26th, 2010 until November 9th, 2010.

'The Fall' autographed by Del Toro

Recently, I was thrilled to see Guillermo del Toro give a presentation to a group of awe-inspired admirers, myself included,  at the TimesTalks Times Center building in New York.  However, when it came to what he would be like or even as to what he would look like, I wasn’t sure what to expect. When he walked out he was dressed strictly in black, a plump, unassuming man, he casually sat in the center chair of the three placed on the stage.

Throughout the talk he revealed a dazzling personality, full of energy and an infectious enthusiasm for his craft and answered the moderators’ and audience’s questions humorously and with effortless eloquence. I’ll admit I hadn’t expected him, this master and lover of horror, to be so wickedly funny. Do not be deceived however, for his books are full of some of the most horrific depictions I’ve ever read and will surely rival some of True Blood’s most gruesome and head turning moments.

It’s my sincerest wish that your love of vampires will bleed into your love for our fanged animal friends in need of good homes. I’m sure I don’t need to remind anyone that they should bid as if a pet depended on it.

In order to participate, you must be registered to bid. Registering is free and registering now will get you set up for future True Blood charity auctions. Please go here to view the auction.

Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan and have teamed up to help The Amanda Foundation. The Amanda Foundation is a pet rescue organization that was founded in 1976, and has since placed thousands of homeless animals into loving homes. A nonprofit organization, they not only rescue dogs and cats who, through no fault of their own, are spending their last days at city and county shelters but they also sponsor a free web page for those that need to re-home their furry, feathered or scaled companions; sponsor spay and neuter education programs and operate a spay-mobile; and have their own veterinary hospital. They also run a feral cat spay/neuter and vaccination program that has treated over 1000 feral cats including 200 in one day! All profits from this auction go directly to The Amanda Foundation to support their worthy work.

“The Fall”

“The vampiric virus unleashed in The Strain has taken over New York City. It is spreading across the country and soon, the world. Amid the chaos, Eph Goodweather—head of the Center for Disease Control’s team—leads a small band out to stop these bloodthirsty monsters. But it may be too late. Ignited by the Master’s horrific plan, a war erupts between Old and New World vampires, each vying for total control. Caught between these warring forces, humans—powerless and vulnerable—are no longer the consumers, but the consumed. With the future of the world in the balance, Eph and his courageous team, guided by the brilliant former professor and Holocaust survivor Abraham Setrakian and exterminator Vasiliy Fet, must combat a terror whose ultimate plan is more terrible than anyone first imagined—a fate worse than annihilation. Though Eph understands the vampiric plague better than anyone, even he cannot protect those he loves from the invading evil. His ex-wife, Kelly, has been turned by the Master, and now she stalks the city, in the darkness, looking for her chance to reclaim Zack, Eph’s young son.”

Stephen Moyer & Anna Paquin Lend a Helping Hand

October 21, 2010

Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin with Darnell ChildrenStephen Moyer and Anna Paquin Support the Darnell Family

Newlyweds Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) and Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) recently lent a hand to a local family touched by tragedy.  The Darnell Family lost father Kirk suddenly at the beginning of the year. He had no life insurance and he left behind 5 kids and his wife Missi.  Eight months later Missi and her daughter Genevieve were hit by a car and killed.  This left the remaining Darnell children parentless and now tragically missing a sister.  Moyer and Paquin proved their class, and truly the size of their hearts because:

“When Moyer heard the story from a neighbor, he decided to pitch in. Along with Paquin, they donated items for a silent auction that took place during The Darnell Family Fundraiser in Venice, California on October 10. And they showed up to offer their support in person as well.”

How generous is that?  Some of these items went up for bid on Ebay and drew an amazing number of bids.  One such item was a script from True Blood that had been autographed by Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alan Ball.  The script was from Season 3, Episode 12.

Script signed by Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alan Ball

Their kindness and generosity is truly inspiring and as Trubies we can still get in on the action of helping this family.  You can find information and ways to help on the Darnell Family’s facebook.

The “A-List Package” offers the winning bidder a unique A-List celebrity experience which includes 4 paparazzi photographers following you to your destination be it a night club or grocery shopping, shouting questions, taking pictures, vying for your attention, begging for one more photo, just like Alexander encounters whenever he runs to the store to buy milk. Name Charlaine Harris Character To Benefit The American Heart Association

August 18, 2009

Names like Sookie, Lafayette and Tara are not exactly Mary, John and Sally, but they have become household names with millions of fans of renowned fiction author, Charlaine Harris. Where do character names come from? Some names like Sookie Stackhouse may seem overly complex for an outwardly simple barmaid. Some characters like Bill Compton carry names that seem far too simple for a complicated, remorseful vampire. However, just as Sookie has many complicated facets, many of the characters names and personalities of the Sookie Stackhouse, Southern Vampire Mysteries span the realm of exciting and complicated to simple and mundane.charlaine-harris1

How character names are chosen is as individual as the writer and character. Was “Tara” ultimately taken from a fictional plantation in a classic novel? Perhaps a reference to a Saviour Goddess from Buddhism? In the end,  it was just a lyrical sounding name. Some writers are open about their naming choices, while some keep the information personal. Whatever the origin for Ms. Harris’ character’s name, Tara is one of many on the lips of millions of fans. With the adaptation of  Ms. Harris’ novels into Alan Ball’s award- winning HBO original series “True Blood,” the simple, unusual, significant or whimsical characters in Charlaine Harris’ novels will achieve immortality like so many of her supernatural beings.

One lucky fan will have the opportunity to share in the quest for immortality. Sept. 1 opens the bidding for a charity auction. The lucky winner of this charity fund raising auction will be allowed to “Name a Character” in a novella to be included in the companion book to her hugely successful Southern Vampire Mysteries (Sookie Stackhouse) series.

The 10-day auction will be held on the Ebay auction site by member AMHEART-SEA.  For the second year running, this very special fund raising auction has been generously donated directly by the renowned fiction author.

All proceeds from this auction go directly to the Greater Southeast Affiliate of the American Heart Association.

The character’s chosen name must be mutually agreed upon by the winner and Ms. Harris and the auction winner will release all rights to the created/chosen name’s use within the specified novel.  Additionally, if the character is named after an actual individual, the said namesake must agree to the use of their name.  There is no direct or implied financial benefit for the winner or any namesake.  At this time, the date of release for the next book, a novella, in this series is scheduled for first half of 2010. This is an incredible opportunity to be a part of literary history.

Bidding will begin on Sept. 1 and end on Sept. 10. Further details can be found at:
