What Will Happen AFTER the Sookie Stackhouse Books End?

April 26, 2013

Charlaine Harris Announces Pre-Order and a Surprise for True Blood Fans in October:

Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris (Southern Vampire Mysteries series/ Sookie Stackhouse/ True Blood)While fans of HBO’s True Blood may not have read the books by Charlaine Harris that inspired the TV show, for book fans, the end of an era is approaching.

Not only is book 13 (Dead Ever After) in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series due for release May 7th, it is also the last book to be penned in this series.

Technically.

Fans will find out who Sookie chooses in Dead Ever After. For some this will be a welcome ending, for others (who are fans of which ever team Sookie doesn’t pick), it will be bitter-sweet. But recently, Charlaine Harris announced there would be a 14th book released in this series!

After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse, will be available via Amazon and all other good book retailers from the 29th of October 2013. Amazon.com offers the following blurb:

Dead Ever After marked the end of the Sookie Stackhouse novels—a series that garnered millions of fans and spawned the hit HBO television show True Blood. It also stoked a hunger that will never die…a hunger to know what happened next.

With characters arranged alphabetically—from the Ancient Pythoness to Bethany Zanelli—bestselling author Charlaine Harris takes fans into the future of their favorite residents of Bon Temps and environs. You’ll learn how Michele and Jason’s marriage fared, what happened to Sookie’s cousin Hunter, and whether Tara and JB’s twins grew up to be solid citizens.

This coda provides the answers to your lingering questions—including details of Sookie’s own happily-ever-after…

The book will feature extensive interior art by acclaimed Sookie artist Lisa Desimini, including a Sookieverse Alphabet, color endpapers, and several full-page black and white interior illustrations.

While it appears that some parts will be laid out in a similar fashion to the previously released The Sookie Stackhouse Companionit seems there will also be plenty of new stuff from the author as well.

Also, Charlaine Harris has announced on her website that signed copies of Dead Ever After can be purchased from certain locations. You can view the list here for the stores closest to you.

You can pre-order Dead Ever After and After Dead from Amazon by clicking the links above.

Also, an interview that Charlaine Harris did with USA Today’s Carol Memmott about the culmination of her Southern Vampire Mysteries series can be viewed here.

Dead Ever After Ending Leaked! Charlaine Harris Asks Fans Not to Spoil it for Others

April 25, 2013

German Fan Posts Ending Online:

Dead Ever After FB CoverFor fans of the Sookie Stackhouse books; the Southern Vampire Mysteries series, May the 7th seems such a long way away. For one German fan though, it was just too long a wait.

While we have no idea who this fan is or how they obtained an early release copy of Dead Ever After, the results are still the same: the ending has been leaked online and now we all have the opportunity to find out who Sookie picks and how the series ends.

Charlaine Harris issued the following statement today on her Facebook page:

By now some of you know that a reader in Germany obtained a copy of DEAD EVER AFTER and decided to post the ending online. While this is unfortunate, I wanted to say this to all of you: Even if you *personally* are unhappy with the ending, please don’t spoil it for other readers. DEAD EVER AFTER goes on sale on May 7th; after that date, you are more that welcome to come here and tell me how much you like – or don’t like – the choices I’ve made for Sookie. But from one Sookie fan to another, I’m asking you all to please not spoil the book for other readers. Thank you so much for your continued support.

~Charlaine Harris

Here at TrueBloodNet.com, we fully support Charlaine Harris’ request and will not be spoiling the end or posting ANY links to sites that are displaying the ending of Dead Ever After. We also request that while fans are visiting TrueBloodNet.com, they refrain from mentioning the ending or any parts of book 13, Dead Ever After until AFTER May 7th.

Thanking you in Anticipation,

The staff at TrueBloodNet.com

Tru Blood 2: A Second Bite Convention Review

August 11, 2012

Australia Gets a Second Taste of True Blood!

The long awaited Tru Blood 2: A Second Bite convention run by Hub Productions hit Australian shores recently. Originally this event was to be held last September, but due to work commitments, injuries and newborns, it was rescheduled. Here’s a run-down of the Melbourne event.

Lindsey Haun

Lindsey Haun who plays Hadley Hale on HBO's True BloodThe doors opened at 9.30am and after a welcome from the wonderful crew at Hub Productions and a photo session with your fave actors, the first True Blood guest started their Q & A time with the audience. The good thing about Australian conventions is that they are smaller in in size, so it becomes more personal.

Lindsey (who plays Hadley Hale, cousin of Sookie Stackhouse in HBO’s True Blood) was a newcomer to the convention scene. She opened the first session with a special treat – a song. I had no idea that Haun was musically inclined, but her voice is definitely worth checking out. While I was unable to record any of her original song (she also played the guitar), it is worth checking out her website HaunSolo.com where some video of her singing can be found.

Lindsey went on to discuss such diverse topics as as her childhood acting career (her most famous role being Mara Chaffee in Village of the Damned), her famous family (father Jimmy Haun is best known as the left-handed guitarist in Air Supply and her grandfather is is singer Rouvaun, better known as ‘The Vocal Veruvius’) and her new hair colour (she is now brunette). Haun was both entertaining and completely comfortable in front of the audience, even taking off her killer red heels and curling up in her chair while chatting to her fans.

Michael Raymond-James

Michael Raymond-James who played Rene Lenier in Season 1 of HBO's True BloodThis was  also Michael’s (Rene Lenier in Season 1) first convention, but you would never know it. We got to see a side of Michael that is completely unlike his role in True Blood.

His stories were hilarious and while he demonstrated his famous Cajun accent and how it evolved with the help of a dialect coach through the audition process, he also regaled the audience with funny onset stories, including one where he received a photo of naked crew members as his parting gift from the show. He also offered his regret at the tragic (on-screen) death of Sookie’s grandmother.

The poor man was suffering terribly from a hangover that resulted from too much partying after the Sydney Tru Blood 2 event, but he soldiered on gracefully after receiving a strong cup of coffee. He was happy to discuss his past acting credits, both on screen and stage. His future acting roles were also discussed, so make sure you keep your eye out for the movie entitled Road To Paloma, it sure sounds good. His short but definitely sweet role in The Walking Dead was also bought up as well as his penchant for bad-boy roles.

Charlaine Harris

Charlaine Harris, author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels that inspired HBO's True BloodThe Q & A sessions were finished up with Charlaine Harris, the author who penned the original Southern Vampire Mystery books that inspired the HBO show, True Blood. Being a fan of the books and a writer myself, I was really looking forward to Charlaine’s session – I am so glad she delivered a Q & A that was funny as well as informative!

There we many questions about her books (the Sookie Stackhouse novels, as well as her other series), her feelings towards Alan Ball’s version of the Sookieverse and her writing career in general. It was lovely to hear how much she appreciates Alan Ball’s vision as well as how much she enjoys seeing the actors on True Blood bring her characters to life. She loved how close Chris Bauer is to her version of Andy Bellefleur and hinted at the fact that if she were to be able to pick any actor to play Niall (a character from her books, but not yet confirmed as a character to be included in True Blood), she would chose David Bowie (can anyone remember his role of the Goblin King in the movie The Labyrinth?)

After the Q & A sessions, all three actors were bought back onto the stage and a combined session then commenced. It was great fun to see the three of them interacting with each other! Apparently Michael Raymond-James had pinched Charlaine Harris’s socks the previous day to keep as a memento of the Sydney event.

The event was concluded with the drawing of a raffle and an autograph session. I was lucky enough to get book number four, Dead To The World (my fave in the series), signed by Charlaine Harris. The very next day after this event, a surprise signing was announced by Dymocks bookstore, and I was able to get a second book signed by the author, so I was very happy indeed!

Did anyone else here attend either of these events. Or did you go to one of the events Charlaine Harris attended in other states? Let me know in the comments below. And for a bit of fun – who wants to caption the photo below taken at the combined Q & A session in Melbourne?

Charlaine Harris on True Blood and the Last Sookie Stackhouse Book

December 9, 2011

Author Discusses the HBO Differences:

Charlaine Harris and Sam Trammell chat at the bar in Merlotte'sRecently, FearNet got to talk to Charlaine Harris about the remainder of her Southern Vampire Mysteries novels (the books that HBO’s True Blood are based on). She also talks about how much she likes the changes Alan Ball has made to her characters in his show.

While Harris feels there are certainly differences between her Sookieverse and Alan Ball’s, she appears to like what she sees. She believes that Ball simply emphasizes different aspects of the same world. And she is glad for this:

“It would bore me to tears if it were exactly like the books. And I hate to bored, ever. I have a really low boredom threshold.”

As for characters, she believes that Sookie is a lot angrier on TV than how she portrays the blonde waitress in her books. She surmises that this may be what makes her more attractive to the True Blood audience.

On the subject of characters, while we have heard Harris say before that she had wished that she had come up with the character of Jessica, since she enjoys watching her so much, FearNet asked if there were any characters she liked less on TV. While no names were mentioned by Harris, she did mention that she loved what Lafayette has become. Since he loses his life so early on in the books, she puts it down to Nelsan Ellis (the actor who plays Lafayette Reynolds) being so fabulous at what he does, as being the reason his character was saved in the TV series.

Charlaine Harris was also asked whether she thought the TV series, True Blood, was now affecting her story line for the remainder of the books. Since there are only two more to go, this was an interesting question, to which she replied:

“Not really so much because I’m so far ahead. But every now and then I wonder if I’m in danger of being confused between the two. Sometimes when I write characters, I think, ‘Wait a minute –- am I writing TV Sookie or book Sookie?’ Then I think, ‘Let’s get back to our roots and remember what we’re doing, young lady.’ So it is possible for me to be influenced I guess, but I didn’t think so until real recently. So I think it’s probably best I’m winding it up then, before I get really confused.” [Laughs.]

With the next book only months away from release, how many of you prefer the books over the TV series, or vice versa? Make sure you let us know your favorite!

Charlaine Harris Prepares for Life After Sookie Stackhouse

November 6, 2011

All Good Things Must Come to an End:

Charlaine Harris, author of Sookie Stackhouse novelsCharlaine Harris has spent many years filling the lives of millions of readers with the story of Sookie Stackhouse, and the love triangle that has ensued between Sookie, Eric, and Bill.  A story that inspired writer/director Alan Ball to create the HBO hit True Blood, based on the life of Sookie Stackhouse. We now know that Harris plans to close this love story at the conclusion of book 13 (we are two away).  And though I am sure this will sadden the millions of Team Bill Vs. Team Eric fans, the old saying “all good things must come to an end” comes to mind. And when one door closes another invariably opens, which is the case for one of America’s favorite authors. Harris has already set her sights on a new trilogy called Cemetery Girl

Life After Sookie Stackhouse

Charlaine Harris will team up with author Christopher Golden and illustrator Don Kramer, to bring to life this new venture. In a press release Harris revealed that “Since Chris has more experience in the graphic novel field than I do, we agreed to team up for my first ever collaboration. This is an exciting venture for both of us.”

The core of the story is about a girl who suffers from amnesia, while living in a cemetery, in search for her true identity. The first of the trilogy is set to be released in 2012, and will allow Harris to begin perfecting her written craft in the realm of the Graphic Novel arena.

In  the meantime, Sookie Stackhouse fans will have to begin preparing for the foregone conclusion that the love triangle is destined to end… sooner than we may want… with one lingering question — will Sookie choose Bill, Eric, or herself?

New Sookie Stackhouse Book Releases For Charlaine Harris

August 21, 2011

Sookie Stackhouse Companion and Home Improvements:

Cover artwork for The Sookie Stackhouse Companion by Charlaine HarrisFans of the Sookie Stackhouse books by author Charlaine Harris will be excited to hear that there are not one, but TWO new Sookie books coming out this month!

The first was already released on August 2 and goes by the title of Home Improvements (Undead Edition). It is an entirely new short story based on the Southern Vampire characters. This story is one of many in this collaboration between authors on the theme of ‘home improvements.’ Apparently, Sookie finds more than she bargained for in the tale “If I Had a Hammer”, when she helps Sam renovate Tara’s new house. In fact, they find a bloody hammer in the walls!

The second Charlaine Harris book will be released on August 30, and is entitled “The Sookie Stackhouse Companion”. This book  includes a new Sookie novella as well as an interview with Alan Ball. It also lets you tour Bon Temps, get the best recipes in the area (including some by Caroline Bellefleur) and test your knowledge of the Sookieverse with trivia questions.

Both books can be purchased from all good book stores as well as online via retailers such as Amazon.

Charlaine Harris Confirms Completion of 12th Book

August 19, 2011

Nearing the end of the Sookie Stackhouse Series:

Charlaine Harris, author of Sookie Stackhouse novels (credit: NY Times)According to Charlaine Harriswebsite/blog she has officially completed the 12th novel in the Sookie Stackhouse Series!  I know that I’m not the only one out there who is ecstatic to hear this news!  Don’t get too excited yet though, because the newest book, Deadlocked, still has to pass through the hands of her editor, as well as several others who read, edit, and make suggestions to her before she makes the final changes and it is published.  I personally have not read the 11th book yet, because I have decided to put it on the backburner until it’s closer to time for the next book (Deadlocked) to be released.  The suspense is killing me, though!   So, how many of you guys are looking forward to the release of the next book?  I am a HUGE fan of True Blood and didn’t begin to read the books until after the completion of Season 3.  Once I began to read the books though, I was completely unable to put them down!  As crazy as this may sound, I read the first ten books of the series within about 3 weeks (and I hate reading most of the time)!  So if you haven’t taken the time to read the books that True Blood is based on, please do so because you will not regret it!

How many of you have read some or all of the Sookie Stackhouse Novels?  Which was your favorite so far?

Any thoughts on Deadlocked?  What about storylines that you would like to see come into play in the newest book that haven’t yet happened? (Please be sure to put SPOILER at the top of your comment if anything included is a possible spoiler from one of the other novels.)  Spill your thoughts below!
