Alexander Skarsgard Compares True Blood & The Giver

August 21, 2014

Is There Any Similarities between True Blood’s Eric Northman and Father in The Giver?

Alexander Skarsgard stars as Eric Northman in HBO' s True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 (entitled ' Love is to Die')There seems to be little comparison; Eric Northman (played by Alexander Skarsgard) is a 1,000 year old viking vampire, and Father (from newly released movie, The Giver) raises children from infancy. How on earth are these two characters alike? But, for the actor who has played both roles, he can definitely draw a distinction.

In The Giver, we are presented with a world that appears Utopian on the surface. Everyone practices ‘sameness’ in a bid to keep a peaceful state. There is no uniqueness at all. Alexander’s character, Father is tasked with raising children in a world where love isn’t even acknowledge. A task he rose to:

Emotionally getting to that place, knowing what I had to do, it was difficult but it was also kind of what I found fascinating about the character, what drew me to the project… I thought it was really interesting to play someone who does what he does in the film — horrible things, but without being a bad guy. If you don’t know what you’re doing, what is the morality? Where does that come from? If you don’t understand the concept of death, is what he doing wrong? Of course it is, in a way, but at the same time, he doesn’t know — he thinks they’re going to a better place. He doesn’t know what “elsewhere” is, what that means. It was also a challenge to play someone who embodies “sameness,” as Father does in the movie. He’s a perfect citizen, in a way. But you also have to, as an actor, find something to not make him a robot.

You could very well compare this lack of emotional output to that of his True Blood character, for sure. An idea that Jennifer Vineyard from Vulture was eager to explore when she asked Alexander if Father was similar to Eric Northman when he amnesia in Season 4 of HBO’s True Blood:

In a way, when Eric went through that, it was almost the opposite. Living the way he did for 1,000 years, having seen and gone through all that pain and suffering, he had almost shut down, emotionally. That’s why I thought it was an interesting love story between him and Sookie, because she was one of the few he ever let in. So when Marnie cast that spell on him, he suddenly opened up in a way. It’s the opposite of what Father does in The Giver, because Eric let his guard down and he was very open and very curious — he wanted to feel, he wanted to experience things in a way that I think, deep down, Father wants, but he’s medicated, and he’s not in touch with his emotions, at all.

As for life after True Blood, besides The Giver, what else does Alexander have on the cards? It seems a permanent move to New York is in order! While he has no plans after he finishes shooting Tarzan (which is currently in production in London), he is toying with the idea of working on the stage for a change. Wouldn’t that be fantastic?

Alexander Skarsgard on the Logistics of Burning in Snow

August 19, 2014

Especially Tricky When the True Blood Set is in Hollywood and Not Sweden:

Alexander Skarsgard stars as Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood Season 6 finale, Episode 10, entitled 'Radioactive'Many truebies who were Team Eric went into absolute meltdown in the Season 6 finale of HBO’s True Blood last year. When Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) burst into flames, there was a panic of tweets asking if the viking vampire had met the true death or not. There was so much hysteria that showrunner Brian Buckner had to confirm Eric would indeed return in Season 7.

But how was that scene filmed? Recently Alexander Skarsgard spilled the beans on the naked scene:

That scene was just me on a rooftop in Hollywood — that’s where we shot it, with a green screen. And it was a very hot day, so I didn’t need the sock. It was supposed to be, when the scene was written, Bucky [Brian Buckner], the showrunner, and I talked about potentially trying to go back to Sweden, to shoot it there. We were very excited about it, and then we realized that it might, you know, be a little bit expensive [laughs] to fly the crew over to Sweden just for that one short scene. Then we were going to shoot it in the Rocky Mountains instead, and then that didn’t happen, for many different reasons, so then we ended up shooting it on the parking structure on the lot where we shoot the show in downtown Hollywood. And it was in June, so it was like 100 degrees. Yeah. Not quite like the mountains of northern Sweden!

So there you have it; it wasn’t Sweden, and it wasn’t even real snow!

True Blood’s Tara Buck Talks About Ginger & Eric & THAT Scene!

August 18, 2014

Tara Buck Describes the Logistics of a Sex Scene with Eric Northman:

Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) get intimate in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 (entitled 'Love is to Die')Well, wasn’t Episode 9 of HBO’s True Blood Season 7 interesting? For one cast member in particular, it was the climax of a promise made years earlier! If you haven’t watched the episode yet, you can read our recap by clicking here.

Tara Buck, who plays everyone’s favorite screamer, Ginger, finally got her moment on the throne with Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard). And – surprisingly – she didn’t even scream:

In the script, there was a wonderful note: Ginger doesn’t scream. Everybody’s expecting her to scream, so do something else. What they wrote was a high-pitched, almost electric sound that’s almost a little eerie. So we tried all kinds of things. I thought it would be fun if there was a moment where you think Ginger’s actually having a heart attack—you think it could be the end for her.

While Ginger has been an Eric Northman groupie for longer than most of us truebies, she admitted that for Ginger, the anticipation leading up to her sexual encounter with the viking vampire, may have been her very undoing – and why that sex lasted such a short amount of time.

With the deed completed in only a few short moments, in reality, it took hours of filming to get the scene just right. This meant that by the end of the day’s shooting, Tara’s core strength had gotten quite a workout:

I had the stunt double and was thinking to myself, “I only get three pumps. I am not letting somebody else come in here and finish this off.” [Laughs] So the only way to have a dismount is to slowly fall back. In my head, I imagined the funniest thing would be climax and then Ginger just falls out of frame. But we couldn’t shoot it that way. I had imagined a soft pad or something that I could just fall off of him onto. But when we were doing rehearsal, there was no pad there yet. So from the noise—the tea kettle, sort of hissing—she just sloooowly falls backward and then slides off of him. Mostly I slid off of him because I was trying not to get hurt in rehearsal.

Considering Ginger is the ultimate Team Eric groupie, Tara fully admits she ‘took one for the team‘ with last night’s encounter with Eric:

I do love that after everything that Ginger’s been put through, she finally got hers. As an actress who looks after her character, loves her character, feels very emotionally connected and attached, I am proud of Ginger. I feel that she worked very hard for that carrot at the end of the trail, and good for her. I also think Ginger became the archetype for Alexander’s fans, so for all the ladies out there, I took one for the team, and I couldn’t have been happier to do that. [Laughs]

True Blood Season 7: Sarah Newlin Bumps Into [SPOILER]

July 20, 2014

Find Out Who Sarah Newlin Will Meet Up With Unexpectedly in Season 7:

Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) gets a new religion and a new haircolour in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 3 Fire in the HoleFor fans of HBO’s True Blood, the return of Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) was met with mixed emotions. Some were glad to see this regular True Blood baddie return for Season 7, while others just wanted her dead already!

Regardless of your stance on Sarah Newlin, Anna Camp told TVLine there will be an unexpected encounter with her ex flame/nemesis, Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) coming up soon:

It’s not in a way that you would expect. It actually can be pretty funny and pretty sad. It’s very unexpected the way that I end up interacting with Jason this time around.

As for how that scene will eventuate, Anna Camp doesn’t elaborate, but she had the following to say about her story line involving Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) hunting her down:

She’s got Pam and Eric hunting her basically and the Yakuza…this season is all about survival. We’re going to see what it’s really like when she’s pushed to the end of her rope.

Or, perhaps when she’s pushed to the edge of her stiletto? When asked about whether there will be another crazy death scene like the one where she kills a woman using nothing but her shoe in Season 6, Anna told E!Online:

No! [Laughs.] This season, Sarah’s gone Buddhist. I think she’s left all of high heels in Texas… Maybe, we’ll see what happens if [Eric, Pam and Sarah] cross paths. I can’t say too much, but there will be some really fun scenes that hopefully people will be on the edge of their seats about.

How do you think Sarah Newlin’s story line will conclude in HBO’s True Blood Season 7? Let us know your thoughts by commenting below!

True Blood Season 7: Will Eric Northman Die of Hep-V?

July 14, 2014

Kristin Bauer van Straten Discusses Pam & Eric:

true-blood-eric-pam-season-7-i-found-you-hboIn the Season 6 finale of HBO’s True Blood, every Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) fan screamed out as one when the viking vampire burst into flames. However, it seems that was just the tip of the iceberg in regards to the troubles he is finding himself in. His progeny, Pam, has been searching high and low for her maker – only to discover he is now suffering from a terminal case of Hep-V.

The actress who portrays Pam, Kristin Bauer van Straten, has had plenty to say about the relationship and complications arising between Pam and Eric in True Blood Season 7. While it seemed that Eric was a lost cause at the start of Episode 3 (entitled Fire in the Hole), Pam bought his fighting spirit back to the fore by the end with the announcement that the threat of Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) was still very real:

It’s quite a triumph for [Pam] to delay his dying. She has to actually think fairly quickly on her feet, and through her panic and through her grief, to try to come up with a way to motivate him.

With Eric dying from Hep-V, however, will they be able to track down Sarah Newlin in time? Without giving any storylines away, for Kristin Bauer, it seems it will be a struggle for the pair of them – emotionally as well as physically:

I feel like she is kicking and screaming. It’s impossible for her to think of losing him. Pam just is in denial and fighting for every moment with him and feeling closer to him. Some of us have been through losing someone, especially with cancer, where you know the person is dying, which I’ve been through, and there’s a real relinquishing and a sweetness and a closeness that happens actually more and more knowing that that person’s time is limited. My dad died of cancer and my best friend of AIDS. I’ve been through it a couple of times, and I also knew — not that this is as big a thing — but I knew that my time with Alex Skarsgard was limited. We were really enjoying all the time we had together, and I could borrow from that — how much we treasured every scene more than we did in the past, because we knew it was a finite quantity.

Is that a hint that Eric does actually die of Hep-V? Or is she merely taking about the demise of the show and the time they have left together as actors? Only time will tell! You can read the full interview by clicking here.

True Blood Season 7: Eric Northman Rumor Put to Rest

July 2, 2014

IMDb.com Lists Eric Northman for Only 2 Episodes:

Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) has Hep V in HBO's True Blood Season 7Fans of HBO’s True Blood are fearful that Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) may not last for much longer thanks to the TV and Movie database, IMDb.com, listing him as only appearing in two episodes of True Blood Season 7!

And thanks to the fact that we ended Episode 2 with an Eric clearing displaying the signs of, what is so far, terminal Hep-V, it is a well founded fear.

But thanks to TVLine’s Ask Ausiello section, we have been reliably reassured by Michael Ausiello that everyone’s favorite viking vampire, Eric Northman, will be appearing for longer than that:

It’s a mistake and there will be more of Eric than that. A lot more of Eric. And if you’re a fan of Eric-Pam, then you’re going to love the July 20 episode. I’ve got two words for you, one of them is “trip” and the other is “road.”

Well, that’s a relief, isn’t it? Let us know why you think Eric and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) will be going on a road trip in Episode 5 by commenting below!

True Blood Season 7: Delicious Plot Twist For Sookie and Eric?

June 19, 2014

Entertainment Weekly Dishes the Dirt on Sookie and Eric:

Sookie and Eric ShowerFans of HBO’s True Blood are certainly getting excited about it’s return this Sunday – but there is one particular character that seems to be on everyone’s mind more than all the others: Eric Northman. While we haven’t seen hide nor naked hair of him since he began to burn to a crisp in the True Blood Season 6 finale, the actor who portrays him has also been somewhat on the downlow as well. With his absence from all the Season 7 promo clips and the fact that he was away filming Tarzan rather than attending the True Blood Season 7 premiere event in Hollywood this week, fans are getting a little… anxious.

But have no fear Truebies, it seems we will get our fill of viking vampire Eric Northman in the final ever season of True Blood, thanks to this tasty tidbit from Entertainment Weekly:

When he first appears, he’s letting Jason (Ryan Kwanten) unbuckle his belt, with enough candles flickering in the background to light a cake for his 1,087th birthday. But as it turns out, this is all just Jason’s dream. More silly than sexy, the scene glows as if someone had set True Blood‘s Instagram filter to “Valtrex commercial.” We’ve seen this kind of cheap fake-out before, like when Jason’s romance with Warlow was later revealed to be just a fantasy. They can’t fool us again.

Is all of this enough to abandon True Blood before its grand finale? Not quite. There’s a clever twist involving Eric that could set up an exciting arc for Sookie [played by Anna Paquin]. Whether he is dead-dead or just undead — we won’t spoil that here — he will definitely spark some suspense this season. Even if Sookie ends up with Bill (Stephen Moyer), there’s enough of Sweden’s favorite sunbather to satisfy.

Now I think that is just about the best news I’ve heard all day! What is your take on this exciting development? How do you think this story line will pan out between Eric and Sookie? And what do you think of the fabulous True Blood themed cover for the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly (pictured below)? Let us know in the comments below!

True Blood Season 7: Get Ready for Some Steamy Action!

June 15, 2014

Who Teams up for Some Same-Sex Action on HBO’s True Blood Season 7?

Ryan Kwanten stars as Jason Stakhouse in HBO's True Blood Season 7Fans of HBO’s True Blood can look forward to an unlikely matching in True Blood Season 7 but who it will be is still open for unterpretation!

While not a lot has been revealed yet, TVLine have released this very interesting teaser for an upcoming episode in Season 7 when a fan asked or a spoiler on the final season:

How about what’s sure to be the most talked-about sex scene in True Blood history? And yes, it’s crazier than that time Bill [Compton (played by Stephen Moyer)] climbed out of his grave and had sex with Sookie [Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin)] in the graveyard. This same-sex hookup, between two non-gay characters, goes down in Episode 2 of the show’s final season — and trust me, it was worth the wait. I can’t say much more, but in case you’re wondering, this particular “love” scene is accompanied by strings.

Strings? As in 50 Shades of Grey type of strings? Or maybe they just mean there will be strings attached? Either way, this will be one interesting love scene, that’s for sure!

So who will it involve? While Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) is openly gay in True Blood, this would seem like the most likely person. However, it would not be a shock to see him pairing up with another guy – after all, we’ve already seen that when he hooked up with the awesome Jesus (Kevin Alejandro).

But, remember back in Season 6 when Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) healed Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) and there was the promise of a Jason/Eric dream pairing there? Wouldn’t it be awesome if we got to see this in Season 7? And according to True Blood’s show runner, Brian Buckner, this might just be a reality:

I think you can reasonably expect it. With our show there is an appetite — Alan from the get-go called it “popcorn for smart people.” And popcorn is addictive: You keep eating it and expect there to be another piece of popcorn right away. My favorite shows on TV make you wait for things. So the idea that I failed to deliver on a promise when I only made one episode after that promise … You know, sometimes things are better when we wait for them. I would love to get our audience conditioned to the idea that this might be a show that delays gratifications sometimes. Because of course we know people want to see that dream. The setup wasn’t written lightly. And believe me, there were HBO executives who were saying, “You have to give us the dream!” And we will. Of course we will. But that doesn’t mean it has to come in the very next episode.

If it’s not Eric and Jason – who would you like to see hook up in True Blood Season 7? Let us know in the comments below!

True Blood Season 7: Alexander Skarsgard WILL Be There!

August 20, 2013

And Just HOW Much Proding Did it Take For Alexander Skarsgard to Strip off?

Alexander Skarsgard will star as Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood Season 7It appears that the True Blood fan reaction to Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) burning in flames in the season finale of HBO’s True Blood Season 6 is still the talk of the water cooler. Not only that, but many are wondering if they will even tune in to True Blood Season 7 if the tall Viking vampire is no longer present!

Well, TV Line scored an exclusive interview with True Blood’s new showrunner, Brian Buckner, and the short answer is: Eric Northman WILL return in True Blood Season 7. Here’s exactly what he had to say:

I can tell you that Alexander Skarsgard is going to be a part of the next season of True Blood. He will be a series regular.

Phew!

Now that is cleared up, just how easy was it to get Alexander Skarsgard to strip down for the cameras? Well, he’s Swedish, you know, and they are usually quite comfortable with nudity, so apparently Brian Buckner didn’t have to twist his arm – not even a little bit! Getting approval for the scenes after they were shot was a piece of cake also:

Alex Skarsgard was the coolest camper in the world. There’s no conversation with him. He’s Swedish. They’re naked all the time. As a matter of fact, when I saw what we had on camera, I sent him an email that said, “We’re going to lock picture. Are you OK with this?” He said, “No problemo.” That was the conversation. It couldn’t have been easier.

As for how easily Eric Northman will recover for his extreme sunburn, this will not be a cake walk. As far as Buckner is concerned, to have Eric miraculously come out of something like this would be a cop out. And considering how long it took for Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) to recover from his burning, we may not want to see the Viking naked again any time soon! Although, Buckner did hint at Pam’s (Kristin Bauer van Straten) possible involvement:

Pam has gone off in search of Eric, and maybe she’s going to be the one to find him, y’know?

How do you think Eric Northman will be saved from the sun in True Blood Season 7? Be as creative as you like and let us know in the comments below!

True Blood Season 7: Is Eric Northman Really Dead?

August 19, 2013

Naked Eric and His Possible Demise is the Talk of the Internet:

Alexander Skarsgard stars as Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood Season 6

Well, HBO’s True Blood Season 6 has sure been a hell of a ride for trubie fans – none other more than the finale, Episode 10 (entitled Radioactive).

So a whole day has passed since we saw that magnificent moment: Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) sunbathing in the snow while reading a book.

It was such a beautiful moment. Team Eric fans around the world squealed in delight.

And then:

Alexander Skarsgard stars as Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood Season 6

Oh no! The horror! Team Eric fans are now screaming in fear as Eric Northman starts to fry. While we are all thinking, ‘oh, surely he’ll run for cover‘, HE BURSTS INTO FLAMES!

Fans around the world went into shock. Most were numb during the rest of the show. But is Eric Northman really dead? Here are the pros and cons:

Pros

  • While Eric Northman caught on fire, we didn’t actually see him end up a pile of ashes. He didn’t explode either
  • Wasn’t Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) looking for her maker? Could she jump in and save him in the knick of time? Would she sacrifice her own life for his in the process?
  • He’s in the snow, so I have three words for you: Stop. Drop. Roll
  • Snow melts when heated, could Eric Northman fall through into an underground ice cavern?
  • Eric could use his super vampire speed to either run to a cave or dig a hole in the snow and bury himself
  • Rumor has it that Alexander Skarsgard (along with some other cast members) are contracted on for seven seasons (this is pure speculation though and has not been confirmed by HBO or its subsiduaries)
  • Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) successfully survived bad sunburn

Cons

  • Alexander Skarsgard has a hectic movie schedule at the moment – does he have time for True Blood any more?
  • He was standing there burning for such a large amount of time – how long is too long when you’re a vampire on fire?
  • There’s that infamous AOL Entertainment video interview with Kristin Bauer van Straten that had her choking up over having to even think about True Blood without Eric Northman
  • HBO have proven that they will certainly kill off important cast members if it is called for – can anyone remember the red wedding from Game of Thrones this year?

So, what do you think? Will Eric Northman die? Or will we see him alive and well in HBO’s True Blood Season 7? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
