August 11, 2014

One of Australia’s Biggest Conventions Gets Two True Blood Stars:

Supanova 2014 Kristin Bauer van Straten and Janina GavankarSupanova in Australia can be likened to San Diego’s Comic Con as far as convention events go in the Southern Hemisphere. Each year the event runs over several weekends across multiple states in Australia. The upcoming Supanova event has confirmed that there will be at least two True Blood stars in attendance: Kristin Bauer van Straten (who plays vampire Pam) and Janina Gavankar (who played shapeshifter Luna Garza).

So far these stars have only been confirmed for the Brisbane and Adelaide events (which are being held in late November 2014), but there is always the possibility this will change closer to the event dates.

Kristin Bauer van Straten Wants To Be More Like True Blood’s Pam

August 7, 2014

Playing a Vampire in HBO’s True Blood Has Taught Kristin Many Things:

Kristin Bauer van Straten stars as vampire Pam in HBO's True BloodFor Kristin Bauer van Straten, 2014 will be forever known as the year she cried a multitude of tears over the demise of HBO’s True Blood. She lived it, she owned it, and there is plenty of video footage left over from San Diego’s Comic Con to prove it. Obviously, playing Pam the snarkiest vampire on earth has gotten under the actor’s skin. Besides loving playing the role, did Kristin ever feel she and Pam had any similarities? And did she take anything away with her after playing Pam? Kristin had this to say to After Ellen recently:

I think I have and I wish that I’d taken more. I truly admire her lack of concern over being liked. I think that’s one of the harder things for me and for humans [because] I really don’t like upsetting people and she could care less for speaking the truth. Because she really isn’t overly vicious or blunt, she’s actually overly truthful. I think that’s why she’s fun to watch because she says what we’re all thinking. And I wish I had that comfortableness in my own shoes. And I think people do gain that ability over the course of a lifetime; vampires just have many lifetimes.

As for die hard Truebies, it is exactly Pam’s attitude that is by far one of her most endearing attributes. Some fans love her attitude so much, in fact, that they even made a video of her best snarky lines from over the entire show. You can check it out below if you like, but just remember than Pam has no censor, so you may not want to watch this video at work 😉

True Blood Season 7: Get Ready For a Southern-Off Between Pam & Sarah

August 6, 2014

Anna Camp Tells Fans to Prepare For Battle – Southern-Style:

Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) are set for a Southern-off in HBO's True Blood Season 7With the net quickly closing in on Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), it appears Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard), Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Mr. Gus (Will Yun Lee) may have their hands firmly on Sarah in Sunday’s upcoming Episode of HBO’s True Blood. But don’t expect Sarah to go down without a fight in Episode 8 (entitled Almost Home) – even if she is claiming to be the Messiah. It seems there will be an old-style battle of the Southern wits before Sarah possibly meets her maker. According to Anna Camp, Sarah and Pam will have a run in some time soon:

Pam hates my guts, and she is definitely not holding any of that back. She is one of the actresses that I have always wanted to have scenes with on this show. You see these two Southern belles who are pretty girly, and we have some great one-liners. There’s a handful of scenes that I’m really excited about seeing because she’s awesome to work with.

Who can’t wait for this clash? But will Sarah finally meet with a grisly end after a Hep-V antidote is synthesized? No one is spilling the beans on that Season 7 secret, but it does look likely with Anna Camp having said Sarah ‘definitely deserves to die‘ in several interviews.

COMIC CON 2014: True Blood Cast Hints at a ‘Not Happily Ever After’

July 29, 2014

Are Eric and Pam True Blood’s Version of ‘True Love’ Then?

True to the End HBO True Blood Season 7 promo posterLast weekend at San Diego’s Comic Con 2014, Zap2It got to talk to the cast of HBO’s True Blood about things such as true love and happy ends and do they exist in the Sookieverse. So how do the residents of Bon Temps and Shreveport view love in this TV series?

According to Kristin Bauer van Straten, who plays vampire Pam, she feels her character’s relationship with her maker, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) transcends the idyllic notion of true love – after all they have been together for more than a hundred years. She suggests that their love is perfect and unconditional after all their time together.

Nelsan Ellis (who plays the flamboyant Lafayette Reynolds) thinks that his character could definitely find true love. And then immediately backs it up with a ‘but we’ll have to wait and see‘ stock response. Chris Bauer (Andy Bellefleur), on the other hand, believes his character has come to forgive vampires and has had the realization that vendettas are actually pointless. Once he discovers this, he also finds out that he is no longer alone in this word any more.

As for Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler-Bellefleur) and Anna Camp (who plays god-shopper and resident baddie, Sarah Newlin), both women agree that Arlene could possibly be the only person who could talk some sense into Sarah. But apparently the pair never get a scene together, so it is a moot point. Although, this would indicate that Sarah Newlin’s story line could be held entirely in Dallas for this final season. And what a shame too, that is one southern scrag fight I would have loved to see!

Stephen Moyer’s (who plays vampire Bill Compton who is currently suffering from an accelerated dose of Hep-V) words are possibly the most telling though. When asked about whether there will be a happy ending for anyone in True Blood Season 7, his reply was:

I’m not sure that’s how Alan Ball conceived things. Even though Alan’s not running the show any more, happily ever after is something that we have always known on our show that as soon as something good happens to a character, something bad is about to happen. So, do you ever know? Are they ever happy? I don’t know.

COMIC CON 2014: Kristin Bauer van Straten Talks About All the ‘Lasts’ for True Blood

July 27, 2014

True Blood Season 7: The Last Scene, The Last Day:

Kristin Bauer van Straten stars as Pam in HBO's True Blood Season 7 promo trailer 1Michael Ausiello was lucky enough to get a chance to sit down with Kristin Bauer van Straten (who stars as vampire Pam in HBO’s True Blood) during San Diego Comic Con 2014 and chat about all things relating to True Blood. For the actor who is very emotional about the show and cast at the best of times, this time it was especially emotionally draining as she talked about all the ‘last times‘ for True Blood Season 7:

You know we’ve had so many ‘lasts’. My last scene with this person, then this person. And then my last day of shooting, and then we didn’t get all of it, so then I had another last day… then throughout this whole process I sort of keep it together by going; “See you at Comic Con!” And I don’t know what I’m going to say here.

To lighten the mood (and, I suspect, to keep Kristin Bauer van Straten from tearing up there and then), Ausiello moved on to talk about all the fun stuff Kristin’s character, Pam, has had to do so far in the first half of Season 7. Kristin promptly starts laughing about all the fun she had shooting the scenes involving the tea party massacre, seeing Alexander Skarsgard (who plays her maker, Eric Northman) in an authentic Texan outfit, and the fact that her infamous line (which sounds a little like ‘republican’) from Episode 5 managed to trend on Twitter! But, mostly, she thoroughly enjoyed exploring her character via those fantastic flashbacks.

But how does she cope with the fact her maker is dying?

I try to, as an actor, borrow from anything Kristin has. And I have such fondness for Alex [at this point Kristin tears up] that I just thought about how it was our last season. [pauses] You know there was enough to borrow from, like, my time [as] Pam and Eric is limited.

There is LOADS more Kristin has to say to TV Line and you can check out the full interview below:

True Blood Season 7: Will Eric Northman Die of Hep-V?

July 14, 2014

Kristin Bauer van Straten Discusses Pam & Eric:

true-blood-eric-pam-season-7-i-found-you-hboIn the Season 6 finale of HBO’s True Blood, every Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) fan screamed out as one when the viking vampire burst into flames. However, it seems that was just the tip of the iceberg in regards to the troubles he is finding himself in. His progeny, Pam, has been searching high and low for her maker – only to discover he is now suffering from a terminal case of Hep-V.

The actress who portrays Pam, Kristin Bauer van Straten, has had plenty to say about the relationship and complications arising between Pam and Eric in True Blood Season 7. While it seemed that Eric was a lost cause at the start of Episode 3 (entitled Fire in the Hole), Pam bought his fighting spirit back to the fore by the end with the announcement that the threat of Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) was still very real:

It’s quite a triumph for [Pam] to delay his dying. She has to actually think fairly quickly on her feet, and through her panic and through her grief, to try to come up with a way to motivate him.

With Eric dying from Hep-V, however, will they be able to track down Sarah Newlin in time? Without giving any storylines away, for Kristin Bauer, it seems it will be a struggle for the pair of them – emotionally as well as physically:

I feel like she is kicking and screaming. It’s impossible for her to think of losing him. Pam just is in denial and fighting for every moment with him and feeling closer to him. Some of us have been through losing someone, especially with cancer, where you know the person is dying, which I’ve been through, and there’s a real relinquishing and a sweetness and a closeness that happens actually more and more knowing that that person’s time is limited. My dad died of cancer and my best friend of AIDS. I’ve been through it a couple of times, and I also knew — not that this is as big a thing — but I knew that my time with Alex Skarsgard was limited. We were really enjoying all the time we had together, and I could borrow from that — how much we treasured every scene more than we did in the past, because we knew it was a finite quantity.

Is that a hint that Eric does actually die of Hep-V? Or is she merely taking about the demise of the show and the time they have left together as actors? Only time will tell! You can read the full interview by clicking here.

Kristen Bauer van Straten Talks About True Blood Season 7, Eric Northman & Buffy

July 2, 2014

Kristin Also Talks About Being Pam and the Parallels Between Sookie and Buffy:

Kristin Bauer van Straten stars as Pam in HBOs True Blood Season 7 promo trailer 1After fans of HBO’s True Blood saw Tara (Rutina Wesley) die off screen in the very first episode of Season 7, many thought she wasn’t dead thanks to the fact that Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) doesn’t seem to notice the death of her progeny. It seems the actor who plays Pam has something to say about that during her recent interview with Vulture:

We do find out more about that later. There is something about that in episode three. I can’t totally tell you about it, but it is something that is addressed, and it was kind of an editing decision, but it will be addressed.

She doesn’t explain further, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out in Episode 3. Perhaps Pam was busy playing Russian roulette and had to keep her cool about Tara, or maybe there is the possibility we are on a different time frame to the events occurring back in Bon Temps?

And now Pam has to deal with the fact her maker, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) has contracted Hep-V. Although, considering Eric’s sister, Nora (Lucy Griffiths), died so quickly from her infection, many fans are worrying Eric may have jumped straight out of the burning sun and into the sudden death round! Although, Kristin Bayer van Straten suggests there may still be hope:

…we see with human illness, when people get the same disease, such as cancer, the outcome can be very different. That’s explored a lot during this season. That’s a huge subject. And I feel like we’ve gotten to know over the years, especially after we saw Pam’s flashback, how important Eric is to her, because he saved her. The life she was headed for was going to be hard and short and lonely, and she really chose, and forced him, to either allow her to die in that moment, or become a vampire and create that special bond. And whenever he’s been in peril, she’s been so vulnerable. That’s when we realized how much he meant to her. And to find him in such a state… Their relationship is more complex than a father/daughter relationship, but that’s the closest thing we have as humans. A best friend and a father that’s been stretched over a hundred years. It’s inconceivable for her to think of existing without him.

Besides acting as Pam in HBO’s True Blood Season 7, Kristin Bauer van Straten also has time to catch up on another great vampire series; Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Considering the show she currently stars in, it seems she can’t help herself drawing parallels between the two blonde leads:

I’m in the middle of season four, they’re in college, and Buffy is trying to get away from trying to be the Slayer, but of course, she can’t. She’s being sucked back in, and she’s not having so much luck with human boys. Sookie doesn’t have the easiest time in relationships, either. And neither did I! And when Buffy slept with Angel, and he became a monster, that was hard for me, because we root for them to be together, and it was so brilliant of the writers to make it impossible. If they ever truly abandon themselves in each other’s arms, he will lose his soul. There’s parallels there between Bill and Sookie, when he became not such a good guy.

It will be interesting to see what Kristin makes of the rest of the Buffy series – and how Pam’s story line will conclude in True Blood Season 7. You can read the full interview Kristin Bauer van Straten did with Vulture by clicking here.

True Blood Season 7: Rutina Wesley Talks About Being Tara

June 23, 2014

HBO’s True Blood Premiere Had Trubies Questioning What Went Down With Tara Thornton:

Rutina Wesley stars as Tara Thronton in HBO's True BloodOn Sunday night with the premiere of HBO’s True Blood Season 7, many fans – even though they had been warned – were still left wondering if they really did see the very final death of Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley). As a result, True Blood fans headed straight to Twitter demanding to know if the newly made vampire really was dead since, technically, we didn’t see her demise onscreen.  Tara’s maker Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) also seemed to be none the wiser about her progeny’s death, so fans pointed immediately to that as evidence that Tara might still be alive.

But actress Rutina Wesley herself has been quick to announce that Tara really is dead this time:

She’s dead. But I can tease that dead doesn’t always mean gone on True Blood.

she told told Entertainment Weekly recently. She goes on to explain that the short stint we saw in Episode 1 (entitled Jesus Gonna Be Here) of her mother Lettie Mae (Adina Porter) high on V might not be the last time we see Lettie Mae claiming to ‘see’ Tara, that there may be more of Tara’s story line unfolding and therefore the opportunity for visions and/or flashbacks of Tara. This Tara, however, will be a gentler version of the one we know and love.

And how did Rutina react when she received the news that her character would die in Season 7:

I think it’s great. I think somebody had to go. To have a main character right off the bat go, that’s gonna bring everybody into the show. It’s like, “Okay, and the show has started.” It’s kind of like the catalyst for everything else that’s gonna probably happen… They’ve given me such an incredible journey on this show that I’ve never had any complaints about what they’ve written for me. So when I found out, I was just like, “Okay, great. Let’s get it started. This is the final season. We can’t all make it to the end.” You wouldn’t have a show. There wouldn’t be any drama. It wouldn’t be True Blood if somebody didn’t die.

As for how Pam will eventually react to the death of her newly formed progeny and lover, Kristin had this to say:

“I think that it informs a lot of [who] Pam [is for] the rest of her season. She already chose to go look for Eric over staying with her progeny at the end of last season, but she didn’t imagine that she would die. But she did abandon her, and I think that only ups the stakes for Pam, because now she really has to find Eric, she has no one else left… We’ve only seen two people in seven years that matter to Pam, and Tara became one of them.

So it appears it won’t be an easy season for Pam this year – but is it ever?
