A True Blood Newbie Teases her Character Over the Airwaves

Janina Gavankar Talks True Blood on LA Talk Radio

Janina Gavankar

The newest blood to join the True Blood cast is Janina Gavankar and she’s already dropping hints about Season 4. Fans will come to know Janina as Luna, the newest shifter in Bon Temps as well as her being the first Native American character on the show. She chatted with her good friend Sheena on LA’s talk radio program the Sheena Metal Experience during  the two year anniversary of her radio show.

Though she wasn’t into weres and vampires when she was a girl, Janina looks forward to reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels to see who the Luna in the books is, although she wants to create her own version of the character. The actress who is of mixed Indian and Dutch descent even enlisted the help of make up artists to changed her skin tone to add a red tone she doesn’t naturally have in order to really show the character’s Native American blood.

As with all shape-shifters and weres on the HBO series, Janina does have to get naked, but she isn’t too bothered by it. For her it’s all about the character and the fact that transforming from one vessel to another is the shape-shifter way. She does reveal that viewers will get a lot more insight and history on shape-shifters and she even gets a scene with shifter Tommy played by Marshall Allman. That’s right Truebies! When we left the season finale, Tommy’s fate was unknown, but it looks like Janina has spilled the beans and fans everywhere are relieved that she did!

All About the Music

Aside from loving her character, what else does she love about True Blood? The music, of course! Janina herself is talented singer and she, like all fans of the show, sees how much the music influences and creates the scenes we all know and love.

It seems the world of the shape shifters is expanding with Season 4 and with Janina’s dedication to creating a well developed character, the who’s better competition between vamps and shifters will be heating up.

Marshall Allman Film Scheduled for DVD Release December 14th

December 4, 2010

The Man Behind Tommy Mickens Shares His Other Work

Marshall AllmanThe talented young actor who joined True Blood in Season 3 as Sam’s brother, Tommy, is also making a name for himself in movies. Marshall Allman starred in an independent film called The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle, which is coming to DVD December 14th.

In this bizarre dark comedy, Marshall plays a janitor named Dory who, along with his coworkers, takes part in a market research study. They all get addicted to cookies that produce some very strange side-effects. The cast includes Tania Raymonde, Matt Smith, Tygh Runyan, and Vincent Vieluf.

Dizzle was an Official Selection at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, where it was described as a “spirited and wildly imaginative debut feature” for writer-director David Russo. It has been compared by critics to films like Clerks and Eraserhead. Based on trailer, however, it looks entirely unique, and something you have to see for yourself.

True Blood’s Marshall Allman Gets Stylish for Da Man

October 18, 2010

Allman Opens Up to Da Man Magazine About True Blood and Moving to Hollywood

True Blood's Marshall Allman in a photo from Da Man magazine. Marshall Allman, True Blood’s Tommy Mickens, is featured in the October/November issue of Da Man magazine. In the spread he can be seen wearing American Apparel, Dockers and Gucci, a big step up from his character’s Merlotte’s garb.

When asked what he thought makes True Blood a success, Marshall pointed to the incredible writing, directing, acting, editing and music. He admitted that it all made him addicted to True Blood, even though he has no interest in anything supernatural.

In the spread he went on to talk about his move to Hollywood and why he decided to become an actor. He shared that when he realized he did not have what it took to play soccer and did not want to starve as an artist in New York, he made the decision to move to the golden state to purse acting.

True Blood Cast Share Season Finale Spoilers

September 8, 2010

True Blood Cast, True BloodThe Season 3 finale of True Blood is getting closer and closer, and several actors on the show are giving fans very small “spoilers” to amp up the anticipation for the finale even more.

Joe Manganiello said that there will be lots of sex, blood, and death. However, when asked about whether Alcide‘s ex-fiancee, Debbie Pelt, would survive, Joe suggested that someone ask Alan Ball that question.

Nelsan Ellis simply said that the True Blood Season 3 Finale will have “a lot of blood and bite.”

Kevin Alejandro gave a slightly more in depth tease. He said that we’ll finally learn more about his character, Jesus, and what kind of person he really is.

Kristin Bauer van Straten also told us a little bit about Pam. She claims that Pam will be in “an emotional and physical battle” in order to save Eric. Kristin also teased that “there are some twists and turns that happen. It’s really clever.”

Todd Lowe revealed that we may see Terry Bellefleur shed some tears and the story behind them.

Marshall Allman very succinctly said that Tommy will be giving Sam a run for his money.

When Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin were asked about spoilers, both were incredibly vague. Stephen said that Bill and Eric have some great moments, and Anna merely shared that “lots of stuff happens.”

Though Jim Parrack said nothing about what’s going to happen with Hoyt, he did say that the Season 3 finale is going to be even wilder and crazier than the Season 2 finale.

Though these tidbits say very little apart, together they point to a fact that Truebies have known for a long time: the True Blood Season 3 finale is going to be crazy, and we can’t wait to see it!

VIDEOS: The True Blood Cast Interviewed on Red Carpets

August 31, 2010

The night of the Emmy Awards is always filled with red carpet interviews of stars. This year, everyone was interviewing the cast of True Blood about several different things, including the Paquin/Moyer wedding and the infamous Rolling Stone Magazine cover.

In this first video, several members of the True Blood cast comment on the Rolling Stone Magazine cover that features Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Alexander Skarsgard. Many of the responses to the cover were about how the nudity is a “typical day at the office” for them. Marshall Allman takes it one step further to hilarious effect.

MTV Shows

The next video has the cast commenting on True Blood and what could happen in the future, as well as Anna and Stephen’s wedding.

The next video has both former and current costars of Stephen and Anna commenting on their wedding and how wonderful it was while they were at an Emmys after party.

In the final video, Stephen discusses the rumor going around about him being cast as Dr. Doom in the next Fantastic Four movie. Though he denies knowing anything about it, Stephen sure blinks a lot while he discusses it. (Blinking rapidly can be a sign that someone is lying.)

Marshall Allman Talks True Blood and Shapeshifters with G4TV

August 18, 2010

Marshall Allman True Blood Tommy Mickens on G4TV InterviewSeveral new characters have been introduced in Season 3 of True Blood and one of the more interesting ones to watch has been Sam Merlotte‘s brother Tommy Mickens, played by Marshall Allman.  As we have seen so far this season, Tommy, who is a shapeshifter, has been forced into illegal dog fighting in order to help take care of his parents.  Marshall sat down with G4 TV to talk about his character, shapeshifters and his wardrobe, or lack thereof.

In the interview Marshall talks about his first wardrobe fitting on True Blood where they went through the regular clothes and then presented him with his choice of “modesty socks” on a velvet lined case.  He goes on to describe some of the “sock” options and jokes about how creative the wardrobe staff is on the show.  Although we have seen the signs, Marshall hints that his character will become involved with Jessica in Season 3.  He goes on to talk about shapeshifters and his feeling that they do not get the credit they deserve and he jokes that him and Sam are going to start a campaign to get shifters the recognition they deserve.

Enjoy the video!

Marshall Allman: Tommy is Like a Pit Bull

August 16, 2010

Now that the shooting season for True Blood has ended, Marshall Allman, who plays Sam Merlotte‘s shape-shifting younger brother, Tommy, told Movieline that he has let it all hang out.  What he means is that his hair is long, he’s got a beard and he’s eating pizza!

Marshall explained that between jobs he lets his hair grow, just in case the next role warrants long or mid-length hair.  When he was hired to play Tommy, the producers wanted it shorter.

“…so we spent about six to seven hours cutting my hair in stages, doing different looks, and sending photos to Alan [Ball] — who would be like, “No. Shorter. Shorter” — till we finally finished.”

When asked about his initial interview for the role, Marshall said he was unnerved by how closely Alan sits – in knee-knocking length.  Evidently Alan likes “to be right up in the action and it’s nerve-wracking”.  Not just because he was the head guy, but, Marshall laughed, because “Uh, Academy Award winning writer in my face…”.

Sounding as if he’s still on a high about being part of his favorite TV show, he was beyond excited when Tommy started working at Merlotte’s.  In addition to working with Sam, now he gets to have scenes with…

“…Lafayette, Arlene, Jessica, and Hoyt, I was like, “Yes. Get me in with everybody! Have Sookie come back, I want to talk trash with Bill, anything!”

An interesting topic came up in the form of Jessica.  It appears there is some interest in her and Marshall said, “When Tommy likes something, he goes right after it.”  Kind of like a pit bull.

But isn’t he concerned about all the HoytJessica fans out there?  Well, yeah, he says.  But with a laugh, he thinks he can turn a few fans his way. After all, “How could they not love Tommy?”

And what about Jessica?  She hasn’t, so far, shown an interest in him. Marshall is quick to let us know his philosophy about that.

“I think in the back of every woman’s mind, they want a Tommy to come after them like they’re the hottest thing on the planet.”

And referring to shape-shifting, hot bodies, nudity, etc., Marshall reminded himself that November isn’t that far away. That’s when they start up again shooting Season 4. It’s time to start working out again.
