VIDEO: True Blood’s Nathan Parsons Opens Up About Being James

August 22, 2014

Nathan Parsons Chats About What’s Next After True Blood:

Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby) and Nathan Parsons (James) star in HBO's True Blood Season 7Recently, Nathan Parsons (who plays vampire James and the latest love interest of Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) on HBO’s True Blood) was interviewed by Access Hollywood about saying goodbye to True Blood and what is next on the cards for him.

Nathan reveals there is a period piece coming up for him but wasn’t able to elaborate on this role any more than that. So once we find out more, you will be the first to know! As for True Blood, Nathan couldn’t disclose any spoilers on the finale this Sunday, however, he did reveal that he thought True Blood ended perfectly – what ever that means. 😉

Access Hollywood also bought up the fact that Nathan’s character, James is in a gay relationship with True Blood stalwart, Lafayette. They were glad to see that being a gay character no longer holds the stigma it used to on television. This in part is thanks to shows like True Blood who never shy away from complicated or difficult subject matter.

Make sure you watch the video below to find out just where Nathan has been on a road trip to recently as well:

True Blood’s Nathan Parsons Discusses His Character’s Love Life

July 23, 2014

James the Vampire is in a Love Triangle with Jessica and Lafayette:

James (Nathan Parsons) and Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) get cosy in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 5 (entitled 'Lost Cause' and previously titled 'Return to Oz')In Season 6 of HBO’s True Blood, we saw newly made vampire, Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll), falling for the brooding James (then played by Luke Grimes) while both were trapped in Vamp Camp. Now, with Season 7, it seems James has not only gotten a new look (with the role being taken over by newcomer, Nathan Parsons), but also a new direction in relation to his love life! While many fans have been busy wondering if Luke Grimes left because of other movie commitments or as a result of a diversion in character that he wasn’t expecting, for his replacement, Nathan Parsons, he is just happy to be on the hit show.

While James and Jessica have been turning into a boring old married couple getting comfortable with each other and the changing world around them, there has been one human that has been helping James: Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis). It is through this new friendship that we learn of how James was turned and how he is also bisexual. With one thing leading to another, we found Lala and James in the back of a car in Episode 5 (entitled Lost Cause) last week.

Recently The Hollywood Reporter got a chance to ask him all about this story line, and in particular the fact that gay relationships are not as openly physically portrayed on television even though there are now plenty of gay couples gracing our screens. Nathan had this to say:

We just had to be really careful about how we went about it. We didn’t want it to be uncomfortable to watch or over the top. It has to be something that is seemingly organic and loving, instead of just having sex for the sake of having sex. I think that was the difficult line to walk. It comes out of nowhere and we have to do it tastefully, and we all have to be comfortable with what’s happening. But Howard [Deutch], the director, was great about it. Nelsan and I just went along for the ride, and I think it turned out really well.

And this story is important and should be told and needs to be shared. It’s a story that’s being told all over the place, and TV doesn’t pay enough attention to it. The “Do I love this guy or love this girl?” and “Is this right or is this wrong?” becomes more important than the act itself, and that I think was really well done by the writer [Craig Chester] and Howard and Nelsan and myself.

While it seemed Jessica was pretty shaken up by catching out the pair, will there be a rekindling of their relationship? According to Nathan, no, there won’t be. Especially since Jessica will have a new situation to deal with. Nathan didn’t expand on what this would be, it makes fans wonder if maybe Jessica will contract Hep-V like Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and, more recently, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer)? Or is he simply alluding to the fact that Jason’s (Ryan Kwanten) girlfriend, Violet (Karolina Wydra) knows all about the tryst he and Jessica had not long after Jessica discovered James and Lafayette together?

True Blood Season 7: Meet Newcomer Nathan Parsons

July 22, 2014

This Aussie Loves Being the New James:

Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby) and Nathan Parsons (James) star in HBO's True Blood Season 7With the final season of HBO’s True Blood already half way done now, we are now meeting an amazing new character who is enjoying a fabulous story line.

Born in Australia, but raised in the US, Nathan Parson’s, took over the role of James the vampire for this season after Luke Grimes stepped away from the role at the end of Season 6.

As Nathan says in an article with Australian newspaper The Morning Bulletin;

The character of James wasn’t that well established in season six…You sort of met him but you didn’t get his story. It is odd taking someone’s part, but he was such a small character in season six now I think we can go a totally different direction with it and I think we will be forgiven.”

And what a different direction that is! The love triangle between James, Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) and Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) started in the first episode of this season when James opens up to Lafayette about how he was turned.

Nathan says it was his friendship with Deborah Ann Woll, and mentor-ship of  Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton),  that has helped him settle into the role alongside all the complex characters.

We [Deborah] went to college together so it was really comfortable to just step in… So much happens so quickly it sort of takes your breath away. This is how True Blood works. You get on the show and you’re thrust into the blood, sex and violence.”

The direction of the James character has also been helped along by Stephen Moyer, who gave him tips on how to be a vampire!

Every vampire show has different rules and different ways of doing things. It was good to have Stephen there to say ‘okay when your fangs click out this is how I do it, this is what you need to think about’. I got tips on being a vampire from Vampire Bill himself.

Stay tuned to see what happens to this new delicious vampire in True Blood Season 7’s second half!
