Queen Sophie-Anne LeClerq Admires Justin Bieber:

Evan Rachel Wood as the deceased Queen Sophie-Anne LeClerqWe lost the vampire queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne LeClerq, this season on HBO’s True Blood but she is not gone completely. Evan Rachel Wood plays an intern in the highly-acclaimed George Clooney-directed film, The Ides of March, which opened in the beginning of October.

Wood stopped by Chelsea Handler’s E! show, Chelsea Lately, to talk about her admiration for Justin Bieber and what it felt like to be invited to George Clooney’s lake house.

On Justin Bieber:

“This is going to be my legacy, from now on. Forget all the acting. It’s just all going to be about Justin Bieber.”

On being pulled over by a bike cop:

“There is nothing more embarrassing than that… I was in a car and he was on a bike.”

Queen Sophie-Anne’s House For Sale!

November 24, 2010

Reduced! The Estate Is Now On the Market For Only $34.5 Million

Vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer) & Queen Sophie-Anne (Evan Rachel Wood) in a natatorium that has a pool, glass ceilings and walls lined with more than 500,000 seashells

Wouldn’t you love a chance to spend a night or more—it has rented monthly for $250,000—living it up in Queen Sophie-Anne’s (Evan Rachel Wood), very True Blood-style, 8-acre, Malibu oceanfront estate?

If you answered yes, then you should hear (and see) some neat details of this totally unique mansion, ‘La Villa Contenta’, that makes it truly ‘fit-for-a queen.’

The centerpiece for many of the True Blood scenes was in the breathtaking, gilded natatorium with it’s striking glass ceilings and eye-popping half-million shells-lined walls. A total dream house for both fangbangers and vampires!

Queen Sophie- Anne's mansion now a Malibu listing for $250,000 per Queen Sophie- Anne's mansion now a Malibu listing for $250,000 per month Queen Sophie- Anne's mansion now a Malibu listing for $250,000 per month

The estate is on the market for $34.5 million with a 1.52-acre parcel (but if you want the entire 8-acre parcel, it will cost $75 million). The three-story home features 11,500 square feet of space, 4 bedrooms, 8.5 baths, a screening room, two maid’s houses, a guesthouse, a gym and nine fireplaces.

Not only does the home look like a Hollywood star’s palace–it actually has been in a number of films and television shows besides True Blood. La Villa Contenta can be seen both in Adam Sandler’s comedy ‘Funny People’ and in Paul Rudd’s ‘I Love You, Man.’

One must admit though, the home truly got a ‘star turn’ when it was featured in multiple episodes of True Blood as Queen Sophie-Anne’s ‘palace.’

Of course, for Truebies the best part was Queen Sophie-Anne’s famous daylight natatorium, which True Blood Production Designer Suzuki Ingerslev says took her breath away:

After all the location scouting I have done over the years, in my opinion, nothing even comes close to the amount of detail that went into this pool house. We all just stood there and took the room in the first time we went there, and pictures don’t even begin to do it justice. The statues, chandeliers, chair rail and ceilings are all made out of a variety of various sizes of seashells and corals. It is astounding, and we could never accomplish this on our budget, and time frame. It is truly breathtaking and exquisite.

Evan Rachel Wood Set to Work with George Clooney

November 2, 2010

From Vampire Queen to Seductive Political Intern

The talented Evan Rachel Wood left True Blood fans speechless with her impeccable interpretation of  Louisiana vampire Queen Sophie Anne. Evan Rachel has been growing more popular with every role she has taken and while True Blood fans want to see more of her in Bon Temps, they can’t help but admire her in the films she’s been in.

Recently it’s been announced that Evan Rachel will be starring in the Ides of March alongside Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, and Marisa Tomei. The star studded cast will be directed by none other than George Clooney. Shooting will begin in February in Michigan and Ohio.

The movie follows a young press spokesman who falls into backroom politics, treacherous manipulations and even seduction. Clooney not only will direct but will also play a presidential candidate running on the Democratic ticket. Evan Rachel Wood plays the seductive intern focused on ensnaring the press spokesman played by Ryan Gosling.

Clooney, along with Grant Heslov, adapted Ides of March from the Broadway play Farragut North and the film will be produced by Smoke House and Appian Way. With such a great production team, director and an amazing cast, this film is sure to bring home an Oscar or two.

While we love her work in True Blood, we must admit Evan Rachel Wood was made for film. She’s brought back the talent and beauty of old Hollywood; we can’t wait to see her in Ides of March. Bring home an Oscar, Evan!

Sophie-Anne LeClerq – Vampire Philosopher Queen

February 22, 2010

True Blood is one of the few TV shows worth repeated viewings, which is a testament to the quality of the production from conception to realization. Alan Ball may claim that True Blood is popcorn television, but there’s real meat (or is that blood) in there as well.

The True Blood Season 2 episode Frenzy, written by Alan Ball, attracted a fair amount of criticism after its first airing in the US. Critics described the episode as being too wordy; filled with exposition at the expense of action and plot development.

The scenes with the vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne LeClerq, were those that attracted the greatest amount of negative criticism, much of it aimed at Evan Rachel Wood whose responsibility it was to bring the wordy Queen to life.

So who is Sophie-Anne LeClerq and why is she so wordy? Does she spout philosophical wisdom or base sophistry?

Sophie-Anne is an immortal being, who in Alan Ball’s words: “very powerful, capricious, and most likely insane.” She has been a vampire for several hundred years, but was turned in her teens. She has accumulated the knowledge of several lifetimes, but interprets it all with the mind of a teenager.

We first meet Sophie-Anne in her Day House. Inside it is a luxurious confection of light, water, and desirable things (objects, humans, and vampires). Outside, dioramas of sand and sea block out the real world. It is opulent, perfect, unreal, and terribly sterile.

Queen Sophie-Anne LeClerq explains to a somewhat nonplussed Vampire Bill that everything in existence imagined itself into being. She also takes the philosophical position that there is no such thing as “good” (and by extension “evil”) or “time”. She forces her companions to play endless games of Yahtzee, which she extols as the “most egalitarian game in the world” as it is based purely on the chance roll of dice and requires no skill.

She is her own creation. She is what she imagines herself to be. The philosopher René Descartes famously posited “I think therefore I am” and Sophie-Anne appears to think she is one of Plato’s imaginary Philosopher Kings (or, in her case, Queen) and, therefore, she is.

In understanding Sophie-Anne you might remember the scene in the movie A Fish Called Wanda, where Otto (don’t call me stupid) West asserts that, that “Apes don’t read philosophy” and Wanda shouts back at him “Yes they do, Otto. They just don’t understand it.”

Now I’m not calling Sophie-Anne stupid (I wouldn’t dare), but she is a cautionary tale of knowledge without wisdom, power without limits, behavior without boundaries, life without death. She is the polar opposite of Sookie, who is wise but not learned, powerful (in her own special way) but ethical, strong but kind, and bounded by her mortality.

Evan Rachel Wood Will Be Tripping The Light Fantastic on Broadway

November 8, 2009

Evan Rachel WoodTrue Blood‘s Evan Rachel Wood (Sophie-Anne Leclerq) will be tripping the light fantastic on Broadway as Mary Jane in “Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark.”
Mary-Jane is Peter Parker’s love interest in the well known comic series of Spider-Man. Spider-Man is about a teenage boy who gets bitten by a genetically modified spider. He wakes up the next day to find himself upside down on his ceiling. Spider-Man is the hero!

Spider-Man:  Turn off the Dark” is directed by Julie Taymor, and has the likes of U2 band mates Bono and the Edge providing the music and lyrics.  All however, does not seem to have run smoothly as expected.

The production has been rumored to have had a budget of $52 million, this is more that twice the budget of “Lord of The Rings“. The show has also received a few setbacks this year with its very public shut down of production is August. There has also been rumors that the show is to be delayed until the spring instead of the late February opening.

As yet the production have no confirmed male lead however some are speculating that Reeve Carney will play the role of Peter Parker/Spiderman..

What can be assured however is that it will be great to watch Evan Rachel Wood in the role of Mary Jane.

Lets hope the show opens on time!

True Blood Season 2: First Look At Queen Sophie-Anne

August 6, 2009

HBO presents a first look of Evan Rachel Wood as Queen Sophie-Anne in Alan Ball‘s hit HBO TV vampire series True Blood.  Evan will make her first appearance as Queen Sophie-Anne, the vampire Queen of Louisiana, in episode 11, “Frenzy” on August 30th.  We will see in the episode a desperate vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer)  seeking advice from Sophie-Anne.

Alan Ball states that “she’s incredibly talented and expressed an interest in being on the show.” Ball is tight-lipped about her character’s significance, though, saying that she will be “more important to some than others.” To tease us even more Alan stated to ausiellofiles.ew.com that Sophie-Anne “has more than one secret agenda which we will slowly become aware of over season 3.”
