Melancholia Opens in Theaters Later This Year:

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard's new movie, Melancholia, hits theaters later this yearA dramatic science fiction thriller starring True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman) as a melancholic newlywed, who probably needs comforting? Yes. Please. Legendary filmmaker and provocateur Lars von Trier’s new film, Melancholia, revolves around the unhappiness of Justine (Kirsten Dunst), who married Michael (Skarsgård) even though (it appears) she didn’t really want to. Throw in a tumultuous sibling rivalry and the harrowing reality that a new planet has just been identified (and is careening toward Earth), and you’ve got yourself one explosive story line.

Von Trier, who at one point announced “no  more happy endings!”, has been pretty tight-lipped about his newest work, but has recently revealed that:

“In Melancholia I start with the end. Because what is interesting is not what happens but how it happens! So we begin by seeing the world being crushed, then we can tell the story afterwards. In this way you don’t have to sit and form theories about what will happen, but can delve down into some other levels and become interested in the pictures and the universe; that’s what I imagine.”

Von Trier admitted that some of the emotions in the film come from his memory of his childhood (he grew up in Denmark), and how he was plagued with horrific fears of nuclear war.  Watch the trailer below.

Melancholia is heading to the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, which will be held May 11-22, 2011.

What do you think Truebies? Sounds like a pretty crazy journey to us!

      Hi jaxx and Missyella,

Only one week till “Dead Reckoning”!!!!!!!!!! So far the reviews seem positive. I listened to some interviews with CH. This movie does look weird but interesting. It seems so depressing though. I would like to see it though because it does look good.

Hello Caitlin!! I will see this because Alex does look sooo hot in a tux and I’d like to see him in another role.

Yes Dead Reckoning will be out Tuesday. From some of the reviews I’ve read from the lucky people who got advance copies, they say CH is back to her old writing skills and that DR is good. Can’t wait.
