True Blood 3.06 “I Got a Right to Sing the Blues” Review

July 27, 2010 by

When you see the words “Written by Alan Ball” in the credits, it’s an immediate indication that the episode of True Blood you are about to watch will be bloody, sexy, scary, emotional–everything we love about the show. There are times you may cringe and want to look away (Tara…biting…gross), but it’s just too captivating NOT to watch.

So, to begin with, Russell drags Sookie and Bill back to his mansion, delighted by his discovery of her shocking gift. Bill‘s charade is up. He couldn’t shield her from Russell‘s greedy, power-hungry clutches, so he makes a futile attempt to escape, staking his guard and then leaping onto the King‘s shoulders to drive the stake down into his chest. With a mere shrug, Russell launches Bill up to crash into the ceiling (much to Talbot’s great dismay). Bill can only hope that Eric will help save Sookie, but Eric is too close to the vengeance he has sought for 1,000 years to let anything stand in his way.

Russell orders Bill to be taken to the slave quarters, where Lorena is commanded to kill him. Eric escorts Sookie to the study to wait for the King. She pleads with him, yells at him–anything to try to understand why he’s acting like Russell‘s lap dog and allowing Bill to be carried off to his death. “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but shut up.” When she doesn’t, he silences her with his hand over her mouth, “Thank you.”

She continues her questions while he paces, trying to think about how to handle the problems he’s facing. Sookie recalls what he said to her back in Bon Temps on her porch (another amusing impression from Anna Paquin), but Eric blows up at her: “You mean nothing to me! Nothing!” Russell enters the room and Eric puts on a huge, fake smile for him before leaving them alone to talk.

Meanwhile, at Merlotte’s, Arlene and Jessica have to deal with a very rude customer, even though they’re closed and everyone is gone for the night. Arlene accidentally cuts herself, and the scent of blood makes Jessica‘s fangs pop out because she’s so hungry. Jessica (who now knows that Arlene is pregnant) feels guilty that she is having such a bad night. She goes over to glamour the woman: “You’re not hungry anymore. Now I want you to take all the money you have and leave it on the table. Then head to the ladies’. Alright?” It might seem weird to be proud of Jessica for handling the situation like a grown-up (vampire), but she satisfies her hunger, on a woman who deserves it, doesn’t kill her, properly glamours her into forgetting, while managing to do something nice for Arlene!

Lafayette and Jesus continued the date they began last week, talking about their lives. Lafayette explains how he has tried to leave Bon Temps but keeps coming back. Jesus moved around a lot growing up. He doesn’t know who his father was because his mom was raped. When he sees that this beautiful guy has had a hard life, too, Lafayette finds himself relating to Jesus more than he expected, and they share a steamy kiss in the car.

Their attraction is undeniable, but a couple of barriers stood in the way of them getting together. For one thing, Lafayette is slow to trust–he’s used the phrase “Satan in a Sunday hat” on more than one occasion (even though, as Jesus pointed out, his name is the polar opposite). His trust issues are understandable–I have to imagine that someone who has left Bon Temps many times in his life but always returned found that the difficulties and persecution he faced in the outside world were harder to deal with than what he suffers from the country folks back home–that expression “the devil you know” comes to mind.

But he seemed ready and willing to test the water with Jesus, until those drug dealers from Hot Shot showed up at his house and started smashing up his car outside. He and Jesus beat them off, but Lafayette didn’t want to stop pounding one of them in the face. Jesus had to hold him back, and he was very disappointed to learn that Lafayette dealt drugs and V, bringing their night to an early end.

Jason and Crystal are kissing by the lake, whispering sweet nothings. When she rolls over on top of him, he laughs, “Don’t hurt me! Or do, I don’t care.” She jumps to the conclusion that he thinks she’s into perverted stuff and demands to know what he meant. “I meant, um…don’t break my heart.” (Candidate for Best Jason Moment Ever) Crystal softens up and starts crying that what they’re doing is wrong. She hears something in the woods, though, and runs off saying it’s too dangerous for them to be together. Between Jason‘s comment about how warm she is and the way she sniffed the air, it seems pretty evident that Crystal is a shifter of some sort.

In Russell‘s conversation with Sookie, they take turns asking each other questions. Sookie begs him to stop Lorena from killing Bill, but Russell wonders why she still wants him. He shows her the dossier Bill kept on her family, but she barely even has time to process it. When it becomes clear that Sookie doesn’t understand her powers or her value to vampires like himself and the Queen, he asks condescendingly, “Oh, sweetheart, you really don’t know anything at all, do you?”

The scenes in which Lorena tortures Bill, while tough to watch, are Mariana Klaveno‘s best work on the series. She deals with her suffering (over her inability to make Bill love her, and the fact that she will lose him forever when he’s dead) in the sadistic way that she cuts him with silver and inflicts as much pain on him as possible. Not to mention cutting herself and mixing her blood in his cuts so that she will be inside him in the end. Bill looks up at her with pity in his eyes, “I wish I had known you before you were Made, before you turned hard. I would liked to have seen you smile with light in your eyes, instead of darkness. That would’ve been something.”

What has gotten into Tara?! She stops letting herself being a victim and takes charge of the situation with Franklin in an intense way. She convinces him that she truly wants to be with him so that he’ll untie her. Then she says she wants to drink his blood and get high on it while making love to him as her last human act before “giving myself to you, then Death.” “Kinky,” he says, but he’s totally into it. She steels herself up and then rips open his neck. Afterwards, Tara lies in Franklin‘s arms, with blood all over her white gown. She sends a mental message to Sookie, who is locked in another guest room, to expect her when the sun comes up: Be ready. We’re gonna need all the luck in the world, but I’m gonna get us out of here. I am not giving up with out a fight.

Talbot and Eric are flirting and playing cards when the King comes in and asks Eric to accompany him on an errand. That seems to be the last straw with Talbot: “You never take me anywhere! You prefer to be in the company of sycophants. Deep down, my darling, you’re a very wicked character.” He walks off muttering to himself in Greek. Eric turns on the charm with Russell as well when they take a ride over to visit Sophie-Anne.

Eric admits to killing the werewolf that attacked him at Sookie‘s house, not out of love for her but to protect himself and because he despises those creatures. Russell gives him a glimpse into his ultimate dream: “If all the supernaturals would stop squabbling among themselves and unite, we could conquer humans in a matter of days.” He believes that mankind is heading “towards oblivion,” destroying themselves and the planet. Vampires are the master race, and everything he has done and planned has been to making that a reality on earth.

Russell finds the Queen on the ground by her pool, scratching lottery tickets and rejoicing over winning $100. He presents her with a rose and gets down on one knee. She has rejected his proposal over and over again, but now he knows that she has been selling V because she owes money. He promises to settle her debts, and when she still doesn’t accept, Eric rushes in and pins her to the ground. Her fangs pop out threateningly, but he just laughs: “I’m older and stronger than you. I’ve only submitted to you in the past because of respect. But you framed me, so I renounce any and all allegiance to you. I am his now. I will rip your head off and throw it in the pool, and I will have fun doing it.”

Sophie-Anne fumes in anger, but Russell knows that he has won. Now he will help Eric with the Magister. No Pam for the past two weeks now, as she is being held prisoner at Fangtasia. In show time, it’s only been two days, but I still can’t help missing Kristin Bauer van Straten‘s great presence and Pam’s sarcastic wit.

Next we see Lorena and Bill, she is licking his blood off a knife as bloody tears pour down her face, waiting for him to die. “What will you do then?” he asks. “Find another man that you deem honorable, so that you can turn him into a violent, hateful thing like yourself, destroying whatever it was that you loved about him to begin with.” She wants him to admit that he enjoyed all the time they spent together in the beginning, killing and making love.

We get a revealing moment about her when Bill brings up her Maker and the horrible things Lorena did for him: “He made you his mirror, just as you’ve tried to make me yours. He is the reason that a girl who once marveled in the beauty of all life, now delights in bringing pain and horror to every moment.” For a moment, it seems as though Lorena will be too upset to actually go through with killing him, but when Debbie and Coot stumble in for a taste of Bill‘s blood, she leaves them to finish him off.

Melinda comes to Sam’s to speak with Tommy. She tells him that he has to go back out on “the circuit” because she’s too old and hurt now. He can’t escape their life just because Sam seems willing to help him in the short-term. She convinces Tommy that she and Joe Lee are all he has, that Sam isn’t really family, and he leaves with her. Sam has no idea where he went, until Arlene mentions the Mickens loading a pit bull into the back of their van. Then he approaches Andy to start asking questions about local dog fighting.

Jason gets dressed up in his letterman jacket from high school football (awww, Crystal makes him feel like a schoolboy) and takes flowers to her house in Hot Shot. She pretends not to know him because her fiance (the same idiot Lafayette beat up the night before) answers the door. She calls him a dumbass and kicks him out, and Jason‘s temporary happiness (the first he’s had since what happened with Eggs) is over too soon.

In the morning, Tara crawls out of bed, grabs a mace from the wall, and smashes Franklin‘s head in. (She is a fearsome thing to behold, covered in blood!) She changes clothes and pretends to be bringing food to Sookie so that the werewolf guard will let her in: “If she ain’t eating almonds, Talbot ain’t gonna be happy, and if Talbot ain’t happy, Russell ain’t happy, and if Russell ain’t happy, you dog boys ain’t gonna be getting any vampire blood. Now open up the damn door!” Together the two girls knock him out and make a run for it. Tara goes to look for a car, while Sookie insists on finding Bill in case he’s still alive. Tara thinks she’s an idiot because of all the things Bill has done, but Sookie refuses to leave without him.

Tara is running across the yard when a white wolf chases her down, but when he shifts, it’s Alcide (naked!) who has come to help. Sookie is over at the slave quarters waiting for a high Debbie and Coot to leave. When she gets inside, Bill is drained to the very edge of death. Crying, she shakes him, and then he whispers her name. “I’m gonna get you out of here. I’m gonna make you well if it’s the last thing I do! Because I love you, Bill Compton, I’m not about to let you go.” Lorena interrupts, no longer sad but fiery mad, saying this is all Sookie‘s fault and pinning her to wall and biting into her. The end!

“I Got a Right to Sing the Blues” was shocking, to be sure, but it has also set up the action for what’s going to happen in the second half of the season. What did everybody else think about this episode, and what were your favorite quotes?

  • Hi everyone!

Lately I have been seeing an increase in people making comments that have been building animosity between the two ‘teams”. As I said and will repeat, we do not believe in “teams” here only Team True Blood. We encourage discussions, opinions and debates but done is a respectful way. Stating this person “sucks” or “I hate_____ and wish they meet the sun” is not productive. When making a statement about a character back it up with facts from the SHOW.

If you disagree with someone who doesn’t like something here, do it respectfully. We appreciate that we have some very enthusiastic readers and fans but we will not allow this to devolve to a Facebook style spitting fight

When you are watching the show and saying “wow that was interesting I wonder what is going to what happened next to Eric (for a Bill fan) or to Bill (for an Eric fan) that shows maturity which I personally feel many have demonstrated (Lizzie, Nia, Jaxx, Isis and PBT) to name a few.

It is true when someone comes in and just spews negativity just to bump up their favorite it unhinges your appreciation for the other character and puts you in the defensive for your favorite.

Some amazing ideas come out when there is mutual respect such as I like the idea that was brought up of seeing Bill and Eric’s backstory of how they met the first time. I think we mentioned at some point in the late 70’s early 80’s at a disco. LOL! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT! LOL!

We really do not want True Blood fans to be represented to the media and to others as being rude and divided instead of united in this great series and supporting it. Being rude and disrespectful just makes True Bloods fan look bad.

I agree Ollie and thanks for the shout out. It is appreciated. 🙂 And, yes, let’s see Eric’s and Bill’s history. They crossed paths at some point and it was a while ago. Wouldn’t it be a hoot to see the Lennon glasses or the nuru vest on them (for us older gals lol). I wonder what they wore in the 80s. Do you think they went grundge in the 90s?? LOL. Too funny. 🙂

      • Nia

        HI AdoreBill and Jaxx,
Most agreed that we all need to keep the integrity of this site intact and flowing smoothly. Yes I know we sometimes let our passions rule but I do believe that we try our best.

Oh no, Bill and Eric in a disco wearing polyester and platforms (thinking circa 1977, J. Travolta and Saturday Night Fever), I dont think my heart can take it!!! LOL

Although we have seen that Bill is quite capable of cutting a rug when necessary, would love to see him disco, and Eric as well. Would be too much fun.

        Team True Blood…..disco style!!!!!

  • Thanks Jaxx, I love your thoughts. That is a great theory. She should probably check out the field. I told my daughters if she ended up with anyone but Bill I would prefer Alcide. By the way she did go out some dates. Her and Sam had a few moments. I am Sorry but everthing Bill and Sookie have been through they need to be together. I am the incureable romantic. But it would not be a drama if they were happily everafter. Keep sending the great thoughts. By the way I like the Eric Sookie porch scene at the beginning of this season.

  • I WOULD LIKE TO APOLIGIZE. Not all the people on this page hate Bill. I want to thank all the Bill family for supporting Bill. Do not give up on Bill. He is our Vampire afterall.

    • Sandy

Hello and welcome fbforBill! You should find yourself right at home here! I’m still a “newb” myself. *waves to Jaxx* Thank you for being so very welcoming too.

What brought me to this site was the episode reviews. (I dont do “fan” sites usually).
What has kept me here has been the fun theories to pass the week away till our next TB fix.
I would like to make it clear that while I do adore Eric’s character and his stoic, think things through approach to challenges attractive, I also love Bill. His “tortured” soul makes for great drama. You can see that they’ve built him up so his fall will be more dramatic on screen. The audience has been given a vested interest in the characters so they will care when they are in danger)
Interesting that Bill starts out lovely (SM and the entire cast are amazing – I separate the characters from the actors tho some people have a hard time doing that) – as his character builds over the seasons, his deceptive ways become more and more clear.

While Eric started out as an indifferent, unemotional, character who has grown over the last few seasons to show his emotional and caring side. In the Vamp world – those are not traits that will keep you alive. Bill’s behaviour at RE showed that he is a “young” vampire, not fully in control. He remained faithful to QSA for reasons we do not know – exactly – yet. It seems his original mission into BT’s was to procure Sookie – to woo her to “their” side but oops he fell in love. What has become increasingly clear is how much he did not tell Sookie – was it for her safety? Or was that a planned approach? (like how he wears Civil War era clothing around her but is a rather modern man – Wii and all! Why the ruse)?

      Cheers
      Sandy

Hi Sandy *waves*. Thanks for the kind words. I think the more people we have discussing the show, the better. You get to see a lot of different perspectives and some you just would never think of. Hope to see you for a long time here Sandy and fbforbill!! 🙂

        • Sandy

          Thanks Jaxx and everyone here!
One of the reasons typical fan sites turn me off is the whole “team” thing. (the trend is beyond over-used IMHO) One can be quite passionate about a character, taking sides in True Blood is really ironic at the end of the day! It’s story arc is about tolerance despite differences that make it such a great show!

OT sort of: a warning ahead of time, I may accidentally come off snarky….this week. Ladies….it happens to us all 😉 Bare with me as I absolutely mean no malice towards anyone!!

Jaxx – thank you again for making a girl feel welcome. And to other regulars. (And you MR/MS Lurker) Please to make your acquaintance!

Sunday’s episode was IMHO one of the best this season – the pace felt right, the sets fantastic, of course the cast and all the crew really out did themselves!

Anyone question the gaudiness of the fae? The scene was technically lovely, but I personally wasnt feeling the costumes – it was something my daughter wore on her 4th Halloween. LMAO.

          Cheers
          Sandy
(going back to re-read what I wrote earlier. long day, just got home….!!)

          • Hi Sandy *waves* !

I started the conversation about the fae stuff that we saw last night for episode 7 in the latest review. See you there and let me know what you hypothesize? 🙂

          • Sandy

Ollie (Regarding post below – couldnt reply!!) I had to take my son to the airport today which is a 45 min trip one direction.
We love the show and discussed this the whole way.

Was it Bill or vampires in general? (I think the dark is Vampires in general just as they are a sort of negative space in Sookie’s mind – they are the opposite of light – opposites attract)!
Was “the light” her fierce supe side or as my son (who’s 16 & off to my sisters for 2 weeks and he’s bummed no TB for him till he gets back) says “steal your light” to mean “steal your life or life force” – being turned would do that too.
Pretty sure Claudine did mean Bill when she said “he knows what you are” As he was the “closest” to them when she made that comment.
Bill has figured out what she is by not burning in the sun. Hadley, we can guess told Eric (of course *both* POV is speculation – but the synopsis of this episode said “Bill learns what Sookie is” and they keep reminding us that Sookie is the last to know)

What seemed like a “doorway” to the Fae world in the Cemetery between Sookie’s and Bill’s I suspect will be explained. In the books there is a doorway at the back of Sookie’s property – they may play upon that but add some twists! Heck, is it possible for Fae to be turned? Other than those two vampire’s blood, what else has Sookie tasted/ate that was like the water Claudine gave her? Claudine was surprised a little shocked even about Sookie saying it tasted familiar! A detail like that on this show doesnt go by without meaning “something”.
            Oh the intrigue!!
            Cheers
            Sandy

            Hi Sandy *waves* !

There was something about the whole fae thing I’m still trying to grasp. The pond was the entrance to the fae world and they entered Bon Temps through and pond in the Bon Temps cemetery? The dark did she mean nighttime or the appearance of a vampire since it coincidented with Bill’s appearance. Also the warning of Bill taking the light from her. How would he do that in the first place? By turning her? So many questions LOL and only 5 more episodes to go! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

          • OMG! Sandy you just peaked my curiosity. I too could not figure out why Claudine was surprised by Sookie’s statement that it tasted familiar. Is is possible for a fae to be turned? Since Bill is from the same area does he have fae heritage. LOL OMG I’m going to get yelled by the the book purists LOL. Just the fact that Sookie said that and Claudine’s surprise leads to so many possibilities.

Ok are you ready for something that will probably be big in the True Blood storyline. This was the 3rd time Sookie had Bill’s blood. Now we know in the books when you have the blood of the same vampire 3 times a blood bond is formed. Now is there a blood bond between Bill and Sookie now? Now if Alan is NOT going with this theory in True Blood then that will have future implications with how the future storylines will go. Ok I may have opened up a can or worms but hopefully people will be civil in their responses. LOL 🙂

          • Sandy

Ollie I reposted the comment in it’s entirety on the new review! See ya there.
            But
LOL I do have to giggle tho I was going to suggest that either Bill or Eric could be part Fae – likely Bill. (that’s why I asked could Fae be turned – but then thought…naw…I’ll cut that bit out LMAO). Irony!
We may be on to something tho!
            Cheers
            Sandy

  • I want to remark about nobility. Bill was noble when he was alive not want to ” sully ” his reunion with his wife. My understanding is what ever your personality and values are when you are human will be the same when you are vampire. This evident when Eric chooses revenge instead of Sookies safety or Pam’s. Since Eric was a Viking and that’s what Vikings always thought about pillaging and revenge. His father even told her never to forget evenging his family. Bill thought of his family only and now he thinks of only Sookie since she is the only thing to family he has had for a long time. Jessica is on his mind to when said that his life and home had been taken from him. This is due to Lorena inferiating interference. I also want to put down a few thought about lies I have seen a lot of terrible hits toward Bill/Stephen character and how he has lied to Sookie. Eric has lied to so if we want to keep records Eric has lied a lot more than Bill.
He did not tell her about Bill being a captive of Lorena.
He did not tell her he hired Lorena.
    He lied about the silver.
He did not tell her about his plans for Bill.
    About the “v”.
About his endless relationship with Laf.
    His relationship with Al.
I could go on and on. I know he did not have to tell her but keeping something from someone is a lie.
I will be fare Bill’s list:
He did not tell her about the blood right away( but explained later)
He did not tell her about QSA.
    Her cousin.
Uncle ( he let her know later)
Check out the list who’s is bigger.
Not to be petty but all of Bill’s was to protect Sookie.

I try not delve into the past to much but there was a attraction to Bill from the start. Sookie called it “Love at first sight.” Love is love. You can not help who you chose to love. She chose Bill and Bill chose Sookie. I think true love will conquer all. If not what is life worth with out love. Even Jesus said above all is love.

Sookie has learned to give, be herself, love, and live because of Bill.

When all you can think of is hate and revenge there is no room for love. I think it is ironic that the one who truly knows what love is now is having a hard time finding it again. You can put what ever character you wnat into this cinerio but love will be the ultimate answer. Alan called True Blood a Love story between Bill and Sookie.

I hope this give some people enoyment and I hope everyone can see that meen no animosity.

  • Bill and Sookie belong together. He has indired ridicule for her, the sun for her, Eric mucking things up, Eric’s lies, Lorena, Magister, and other stupid situations that were out of his control. He loves her. What ever he has done in his past is his past and that is where it belongs. He has saved her life countless times and the whole town of Bon Temps by helping Sam when he was attacked by the mainad-the sacrifice. Bill has integrity and cares more for Sookie than just about anyone in that podunk town. Remember he did not have to trick Sookie into anything. Recently he had to take some blood but he was almost dead and out of his vampire mind at the time. If anyone should get the blame on that one it should be Lorena.. Rather than poke fun at favorites lets look at who she should be with and agree to disagree. I feel she needs to be with what AB calls Sookie’s soul mate BILL! Sorry got a little caried away. They are devoted to each other and she went out of her way to help him because she loves him and he is going out of the way to do the same..I know I know the Lorena sex scene, he thouht he would never see Sookie again and he said and I quote,” I was killing the love I had for Sookie.” He never thought he would ever see her. He wants her safe and will do anything to keep her that way. Now that is devotion to put the person you love ahead of yourself.

    • jaxx

To me, the trickery began when Bill came to BT under false pretenses to woo Sookie for the queen. If he never would have come to BT to begin with, Sookie would have probably ended up with Sam and would not have met Eric or become involved in the vamp politics, at least not right away since Sam is a supe himself, jimo. If Bill came to BT to truly mainstream and live in his uncle’s house and try to start a new life and forget his awful past and everything having to do with Lorena, then I would have volumes of respect for him for trying, but due to the circumstances which are starting to unfold, I just cannot right now.

      • Thank you jaxx you are the only one here except Nia who has been fair to Bill. I think we can enjoy both Eric and Bill together, Well with you anyway. You make me think and help mwe with my love for Stephen character. I understand your sinscism towards Bill but he gave up on his mission for QSA a long time ago. He love Sookie. Even Stephen said They belong together. I like Eric But not with Sookie. I wish AB would invent a new character for him. Maybe a long lost Viking princess. She could be another nemicis for Sookie or Jess. Do you think that would be fun? Let me know. Again love your thoughts.

        • jaxx

Well thank you fbforbill. I think we all can get along if we just try. I know some days are better than others though. LOL.

Right now, I think Sookie should play the field. She’s only had one boyfriend in her life at age 25. I welcome other suitors right now as in Sam, Eric, Alcide and Quinn (in the future). Only then can Sookie compare and figure out for herself if Bill truly is the love of her life. How would she know this if she never dated anyone else in comparison? We don’t know how this story will end, either in the books or tv, anyone and I mean anyone could still win Sookie’s heart. She may go back to Bill in the end for all we know and if that’s who she chooses after dating the others, then so be it. Then that is who she is meant to be with.

I wonder if Eric ever had a “love of his life” either before he was turned or in his 1,000 years since. That would be interesting to explore as well. There had to have been someone in the past. Here’s a thought, what is that someone resembled Sookie? Maybe had different hair color or eye color?? Now, that would be interesting to find out. LOL.

          • Antonio el hombre lobo

I agree Jaxx Sookie is still young and naive somewhat. She needs to grow and mature and reflect on what matters to her most!
Isnt it funny that No human man has shown a real interest in her?
Are Only Supes drawn to her?? She hasnt been on a date with someone who was All Human! All the guys vying for her are ALL Supes! She may be 1 herself or partially. Whats interesting here is That in the next episode 3-7 It looks like Sookie may be on her Own for a while…That would be something new!
Bill looks as if he’s torn up over Sookie and it sounds like he’s realized that he just brings trouble and suffering to her
(perhaps Lorena Was right?) Eric has a single mind about avenging his family and Alcide has his Own baggage to deal with.
I’m sure its NOT easy being a Werewolf!
Sam is involved in his Own thing with the Mickens…So Who will she be able to turn to??
            Certainly NOT her brother!!
Isnt it something, though Lorena wanted to kill Sookie because of Bill Now It looks like Debbie wants to get Sookie because of Alcide! Eric doesnt have Any psychotic Exes and his maker is gone.

  • ~Caitlin

At some point, I hope we get to see a flashback of Bill and Eric and find out what their history is together. In season 1 Eric says. ” Bill it has been a while.”

    • pbt

Yes, Caitlin. I have always wondered what Bill and Eric’s history was too. I actually envision a punk club in East Berlin prior to the cold war.

Eric runs the club and everyone is clad in black leather chaps, jeans, and no shirts. Our favorite vamps have short hair cuts and spiked into Mohawks.

OK that was a personal fantasy but oh so good.

      • ~Caitlin

        Hi pbt,

Interesting, I also envision them in some type of club. When Bill first came to town they seemed on better terms. They got along a little bit. Just for fun I’d love to see Pam and Eric in the 70’s. I think that would have been a fun time for them. Probably, they didn’t even have to glammer people. Eric with his viking hair would have fit right in. I think they might show a Pam/Eric flashback this season. I can’t wait to see that.

        • Mortain

The Eric fans never did get to see the pink spandex…

          • pbt

No we didn’t but we got Eric in a dress instead during Laffy’s vision!

I am still hoping for blue boxers or red bikini underwear personally.

Or nothing at all. I am not that discriminating when it comes to the Viking.

          • jaxx

The pink spandex would have been the best. This was one of the funniest moments in the books and it would have showed Eric’s humorous and playful side. Too bad we didn’t see it.

        • Everyone has great ideas. I would love to see how Bill and Eric met. You know how a girl can muck up a friendship. Any kind of flashback would be great. I like getting to know characters in the show. The Eric flashbacks were great this year. My heart went out to him when Eric’s family was killed. Eric is not my favorite by far but like his villian character. Bill will always be my favorite.

          • jaxx

Yes, Eric and Bill flashbacks would be great. I’d love to see them in the hippy 60s, 70s and those crazy 80s. That would be a hoot. Please Alan Ball, consider some of these flashbacks, if for nothing else, comic relief from the serious scenes.

Just some thoughts after reading some of the posts:

Bill attacking the king was “so stupid” that to me perhaps it was done on purpose. Bill did it intentionally perhaps to: 1)force the King to display his powers or abilities. 2)Give Eric an opening to ingratiate himself to the King. I almost see it as a good cop and bad cop scenario. Just speculating. But after seeing the exchange of glances between Bill and Eric in the previous episode, I do think they are on the same page about Sookie. Bill already knew from his conversation with Coot that the King was onto Bill Compton. And if he had killed the King, great. But he didn’t and really had nothing to lose it trying.

I don’t think Eric is indifferent to Bill. He is just further down on his list of priorities right now. Eric is looking at the bigger picture. Remember Bill knows nothing about Eric’s past and some of his reasoning for being in Jackson. Bill being dragged out the door yelling “save Sookie”, Bill wasn’t asking for help for himself. He was basically communicating to Eric “its OK, if you don’t rescue me as long as you rescue Sookie. This allows Eric to remove Bill from this equation.

I think Sookie is a very high priority on Eric’s list. By telling Russell that Sookie is valuable, he’d be doing the most he could at the moment to ensure her safety. Here’s how I saw it. When Eric was arguing with Sookie at Russell’s, it wasn’t about Sookie’s safety. It was about her begging Eric to save Bill. She associated Eric helping save Bill with caring about her and that’s when he got in her face–to stop her big mouth from getting Eric in trouble with Russell. She was starting to make it sound like Eric was having a conflict of interest with Russell. I thought it was very naive for her to think Bill would be of any consequence to Eric in the middle of this dangerous situation.

I do think Eric is trying to convince himself on a certain level about not caring about Sookie. Remember he has said he doesn’t care for humans so how can he feel this way. He doesn’t know that she is fae and part supe. And why did he need to think? He was trying to fit Miss Stackhouse into his convoluted vampire plot to take down the King and save Pam. And Pam is definitely is on his mind. He asked or reminded the King on at least 3 occasions I believe. That would be some complicated plan. Granted Sookie is not on the top of his list of important things but she is on the list.

Side note about Sookie’s questions to the King of Missisippi. Stupid questions must run in the family. Earlier this season Jason asking Sookie about “Santa” and now Sookie asking about Russell’s crown. Hilarious. I will admit I have been a bit disappointed with Jason of late his storyline it has sort of plateaued. Not seeing the witty Jasonisms from past seasons.

Continued viewing all. 3 short days until the V-ddiction. Oh Antonio. Welcome of the dark side of passion! 🙂

THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALAN BALL!!!!!!!!!

Once again for this amazing episode and continuing story. As always with you at the helm, you steer us through turbulent waters sometimes safely and sometimes we are thrown up against the reefs. All in all you never ever disappoint.
You gift us with your brilliance and make us all FEEL!!! And I felt such a plethora of emotions in this episode.

There is so very much to say as well as more than just a few memorable quotes, which I will add to at a later time.

This was by far the best episode yet, exciting, powerful, revealing, heart wrenchingly sad and horrifying all at the same time.

I wonder if Sam may eventually go into the ring to help out Tommy. Perhaps Tommy gets hurt and Sam has to go in to take his place. For some reason that is just something that I see Sam doing, he is such a wonderful man and brother.

Jesus is great with Lafayette. Hopefully he will keep laffy grounded.

Jessica was to much fun with Arlene. Well at least Jess finally got a meal. LOL

Could this be the beginning of true love for Jason?? Time will tell.

Tara was positively feral in her feeding on Franklin and in her final escape. But if you are going to do a job you must do it well. I fear Franklin is not done with her yet.

Bill was absolutely positively magnificent in this episode, MAGNIFICENT!!
But then again he has been this entire season. Also attributed to the very brilliant acting on Stephens part, as always.

Bill has shined this season and especially this epi. He has had his love and humanity ripped from him again, his darkness unwillingly brought forth and he is immersed in a dark pool of evil that is Lorena, Eric, Russell and Sophie Ann. His soul has been bared and his life cruelly and viciously taken to the point of death, and that he would have welcomed true death instead of being without that which would have made life worthwhile and meaningful. I had my hand over my heart the entire time. I barley moved or took a breath. That is how much I FELT.

He put Sookie above all things to him and gladly had sacrificed himself in the hopes of ensuring her freedom and happiness.
Bill made the desparate last attempt to save Sookie by trying to kill RE. It was amazingly done (and filmed).

Bill was, is and will always be a HERO to me and so many others.

He was not going to go silently into the good night. He saw a chance to fight and he took it. His coming down onto RE from above with stake in hand was a great move, instead of attacking merely from behind. It almost worked but when you compare the obvious age and strength difference, it would seem that Bill never had a chance,

BUT DAMMIT, AT LEAST HE TRIED, AND GAVE IT HIS ALL!!!!

Instead of standing aside, impotent, shocked and uncaring, with nutsack in hand.
Bill called to Eric to save Sookie when he no longer could, a final act for his love. Why shouldn’t he? Bill of course knows that Eric wants Sookie, at least he believed that Eric could save her when he could not. He was willing to do even that to save her. Give her to Erics care such as it is.
Going to his death all he could think about was his Sookie, a good and noble man Bill is and will always be no matter what darkness is wrenched out of him.

Perhaps if Eric would have joined in and helped fight they would have had a chance to defeat RE together. Bill had already taken out one guard. But then we know that Eric has wanted Bill gone for a long time so he wouldn’t do anything to help him or even Sookie for that matter. As we have seen quite well Eric is all for Eric. His main focus is his vendetta first and foremost. I believe he would have given up Sookie in a heartbeat, or lack of, to achieve his purpose.

“Sookie, YOU MEAN NOTHING TO ME! NOTHING. I am very close to getting something I’ve wanted since I was still human; do not get in my way.”

As to Erics horrible self centered behaviour, I could write pages upon pages on this episode alone (which I did but did not add) and it would be more than justified. How many of you have trashed Bill (and very so unfortunately Stephen) in the past when it was unwarranted. Yet it was done out of jealousy and spite. I am trying to be better than that. I was feeling good about Eric and giving him the benefit of the doubt for his past transgressions thinking that his new found emotions will bring forth a better person, but this epi has blown that completely out of the water. Until I am given something more substantial to Erics character all I can say is:

Ahh villain thou hath reared thy ugly head again…..and again.

I am sorry to you Jaxx, this is JIM heartfelt O, and had to be said!
I am saddened when seeing a few of the comments here not giving credit where credit is due. I have done so with Eric in the past when warranted. I at least am honest about that.

    Team Alan Ball

Hello Nia dear, you are entitled to state your opinion without apology to me. You feel how you feel and that’s ok.

As I stated earlier, Eric does not want to blow this mission by jumping on anyone’s bandwagon just yet. He knows what he’s doing as far as a strategy, playing it cool until the time is right to act regarding all of his problems.

      You say:

“Perhaps if Eric would have joined in and helped fight they would have had a chance to defeat RE together. Bill had already taken out one guard. ******

      My Response:

I know you like facts so….

From TV Guide this week, bottom of page 22:

“Enter Eric. Sure, the sexy sheriff of Area Five and owner of fangbanger bar Fangtasia was so smitten with Sookie he tricked her into drinking his blood last season, bonding them for life. Yet when he saw her captive at Russell’s earlier this season, he refused to help. What gives?”

Article continues at top of page 25:

“Fear not, Team Eric. It’s all part of a bigger plan, reveals Skarsgard. “He pretends he is not, but he is definitely concerned and he cares for her. And that’s tough for him to admit — that she means a lot to him,” Sookie’s not exactly impartial. Says Paquin, “With Eric, there are a lot of feelings. Under all that anger toward him there is also a lot of passion.”

      Next paragraph….

“Maddeningly for Eric fans, that lust has only been consummated in dream sequences. Ball promises that will soon change. “We’ll see Eric and Sookie together and it will be real. It’s nobody’s dream, and it’s nobody’s fantasy. But I’m not saying how both of them react.”

Sorry Nia, I cannot agree with you this week.

      • Nia

        Hi Jaxx,
Thank you for the quotes from TV guide. I do have my copy already and sorry but no the viking is NOT on the cover….LOL

Now you know that we are not always going to agree, where would be the fun in that if we always did??

I know very well that Eric and Sookie will hook up eventually, it is absolutely inevitable and I have said many times in the past that I look forward to it and the drama that will result!! It is necessary and AB is following the basics of the books.

Erics behavior though was reprehensible towards Bill and Sookie in this epi. Eric may feel something for her but he is not man enough yet to admit it. Whereas Bill loves Sookie with all his heart and has no qualms showing it and sacrificing himself for it.

My biggest problem is with the lack of credit given to Bill. That is truly sad, and denotes many who are jealous of their love, and the fact that even with darkness in him, Bill is a noble man.

He was the only one to try to take action. No one else was in danger because of it, only him. He tried to save them all by killing Russell. After Bills failed attempt, Eric took the easy way out by sucking up to Russell, and giving up Sookie when Bill never did. He may have been playacting but he could have said it to Sookie when they were alone, instead he showed his true passion and it was not for her.
I am tired of all this Eric love when he did nothing to deserve it. I have given him credit in the past when he earned it but it has been few and far between.
As Charlaine H once said, “I do not understand the Eric love out there”. HMMM, she must know something. I heartily agree.

I still like Eric for what he is, he makes me laugh, but it is Bill makes me feel.
I have also said it many many times, that I will honestly give him credit when he earns it but in this episode he was only thinking of himself.

I have a few more quotes from the article, for those who may not have read it:

“So far she’s(Sookie) been loyal to her first love, Civil War-era vampire Bill Compton, but a heartwrenching breach of trust will soon tear the two apart leaving an opening for the calculating Viking Blood sucker Eric N and sensitive werewolf bodyguard Alcide H.”

“It will shake the very core of their relationship, says executive producer Alan Ball of the shocking incident that wounds the couple in S3. Bill and Sookies love for each other is authentic and they want to make it work. But it might get harder and harder.”

“Sookies search for her intended landed her in Russells clutches, too, and she might have died along the way if not for Alcides protection. Add to that the conniving Eric; Bills maker and ex, Lorena, who said she wanted to wear Sookies rib cage as a hat; the dangerous vampire queen Sophie Ann; and you’ve got one bloody mess.”

“Still, Moyer (Paquins real life fiance’) believes that when it comes to true love, all the mayhem is managable. “I cant get into slinging matches about who is better for Sookie because its just rediculous”, he laughs.
“Bill is for Sookie, the love of her life.” ”

“Bills all passion and protectiveness, is definitely someone you want in your corner-or any room of the house.
        Score one for Team Bill!”

“None of Sookies supernatural admirers is a totally safe choice. Besides the incident with Bill, her relationship with someone else close to her will lead to big trouble”

“As Season 3 winds down, expect more twists than a backcountry dirt road. The biggest may come from Sookie when she discovers just how dark passion can be.”

I hope you are well Jaxx, it really is good to discuss with you.

Well my tea has been drunk and it is nhow time for a dose of reality.

        Take care.

Hey Nia, I brought chips tonight. lol.

“My biggest problem is with the lack of credit given to Bill. That is truly sad,
and denotes many who are jealous of their love, and the fact that even with
darkness in him, Bill is a noble man.”

I agree in Bill’s HUMAN life, he was a noble man. Honest, family man with integrity. Not disputing this at all. In his vampire life, with the exception of the first few months with Sookie, not so much. He’s tried with Sookie to be the honorable Southern gentleman of his human past, but just can’t seem to recapture that in the undead form. It’s endearing for a short while, but his vampire nature comes out in the end. Maybe that’s just the vampire nature, can’t fight it. I do give him points for trying, it’s just his past with Lorena and all the killings, secret mission, the lies, hiding things from Sookie and then next week’s episode is what I cannot give him credit for. He does realize he can only save her by not being with her, now that is a noble act.

“He was the only one to try to take action. No one else was in danger because of
it, only him. He tried to save them all by killing Russell. After Bills failed
attempt, Eric took the easy way out by sucking up to Russell, and giving up

it to Sookie when they were alone, instead he showed his true passion and it was
          not for her. ”

Eric knew better than to react to someone so old as Russell. He saw what happened to Bill, he made a wise decision. The looks on Eric’s face say it all. He has a very expressive face. He knows what to do and when to do it. That was not the time to do anything. Eric is not even sure what he feels for Sookie yet, how can he tell her when he’s not sure what these feelings are. Maybe he thinks they’ll pass. It’s all very confusing to him at this point.

“I am tired of all this Eric love when he did nothing to deserve it. I have given
him credit in the past when he earned it but it has been few and far between.”

Maybe not yet, but he will.

“As Charlaine H once said, “I do not understand the Eric love out there”. HMMM,
she must know something. I heartily agree.”

I read that quote also and think it’s silly. She created him and wrote him the way he is, she should understand the reaction he gets.

“I still like Eric for what he is, he makes me laugh, but it is Bill makes me feel.
I have also said it many many times, that I will honestly give him credit when he earns it but in this episode he was only thinking of himself.”

I agree that was one small part of it, yes he was thinking of his vengeance against Russell, but like Alex said in the article himself, “It’s all part of a bigger plan”. The plan has to also do with Pam and Sookie. Eric comes across one way, but once he thinks it over, he does do the right thing, i.e., telling Sookie he lied to her. I am confident he will prove himself at the end and he and Bill will work together.

          • Hi Jaxx and Nia,

Love the back and forth, but Jaxx you raised a point that would indicate that NEITHER vampire is good for Sookie with your statement “Maybe that’s just the vampire nature, can’t fight it.” Therefore if Eric too could be placed in the same classification of not being noble at all either since he has killed, lied, and hides things too. 🙂

          • Nia

Morning Jaxx, and I haven’t even had my am cup of java…..oh the pain.

***I agree in Bill’s HUMAN life, he was a noble man. Honest, family man with integrity. Not disputing this at all. You contradict yourself quite a bit here Jaxx.
You say that Bill was only noble in his human life, not in his vampiric life because of his mistakes on the road back to his humanity, yet in the end you also say that he commits the ultimate NOBLE act as a vampire by again sacrificing all that makes his journey worthwhile…..his miracle, his Sookie???? See my point? LOL
            Noble is as noble does!

Yes we will agree that Bill was more than noble in his human life and that we have seen him fight to regain it in his vampire life! Has it been difficult, yes, does he fail at times, absolutely, does he pay for his mistakes, of course. I admit all his faults.
But he does try…….it is this TRYING, this effort, that screams his noble spirit.
You also say that you will not give him credit yet you will give him points for all he has tried to do. That to me is still giving him credit, just with a bit of word playing.

You also say that he cannot fight his vampiric nature yet that is what he has been doing since we first met him, we have seen it as far back as the 1930s as he gave up this nature that was so cruelly forced into him by Lorena. He also gave confession at what was his almost his true death that it was never his nature.

So you can not give Bill credit for his killings, his mission, his lies. Even when he admits to the killings and doesn’t try to say it was Lorenas fault which is noble in itself(talk about a beautiful expressive face, his eyes said it all, mirrors to a tormented soul), his mission that he was ordered to do, and before he knew Sookie, And that he keeps things from Sookie which he feels is to protect and save Sookie from pain.

But you can give Eric credit for his killings (his torture dungeon of doom), his mission (this vendetta that takes precedence over everything else, as we have observed) and his lies. He has lied many times to Sookie but that is ok?? He only confessed to one, how about the others? And there are very many:

            1. Sending her to Dallas without a warning to the dangers. Risking her life to achieve his own ends again.
            2. Calling in Lorena to detain Bill from helping her.
            3. Planning to have Bill abducted AGAIN!
            4. Knowledge of the weres (I give him credit for confessing to that one)
            5. Pinning the V sales on Bill (how would Sookie feel about that one)
            6. Telling her she means nothing to him (This is a lie isnt it??)

Well so far if we do the math I think that Erics lies to Sookie outweigh Bills!!! LOL
How is that for the facts!

***Eric knew better than to react to someone so old as Russell. He saw what happened to Bill, he made a wise decision. The looks on Eric’s face say it all. He has a very expressive face. Yes Eric is confused, not quite had that planned had he? How strange that someone as old as Eric has not been able to sort out what he is feeling.
Again a lesson not well learned from Godric. Yet how fortunate Eric was to have such a maker.
Eric did not react to Russell because he did not care to because there was the chance that he would fail as well. He took the easy way out, becoming a sycophant.
Yes he has many expressions, mostly here they were disgustingly cowtowing to Russsell. He layed on the syrupy sweetness so thick I was gagging with the taste of it.

Bill tried to play Russell with action, Eric is playing him in another way, I wonder if we will see a shower scene between the two??? LOL, Eric was sure pouring it on thick,.
Thank god Bill never deemed to lower himself to that level.

Bill still took that chance even with the odds stacked against him.
            Bill fights for Sookie always.
Give me Bill the fighter over Eric the sycophant anyday!

Eric could have fought, isn’t he the great warrior?????? If Russell were killed all the better don’t you think?? A quicker and eventual end.
Bill and Eric together would have made a great team, but as usual he threw Bill to the dogs, literally, AGAIN.

***I agree that was one small part of it, yes he was thinking of his vengeance against Russell, but like Alex said in the article himself, “It’s all part of a bigger plan”. All Eric cares for right now is his vendetta. Even Pam will take a 2nd seat to that. How do you know that the “bigger plan” has to do with Pam and Sookie?? Where is the evidence?
That is pure wishful thinking on your part. Pam is his progeny yes, and Sookie means nothing to him, as he confessed, shouldn’t we always take what Eric says as gospel?

I think this “bigger plan” you are talking about has nothing to do with these women, but is really all a huge powerplay, because that is what I believe Eric really cares about.

I hope you have a nice day and great weekend. This next episode will be incredible as always.

            ***Spoiler***

Eric willingly torturing an innocent Hadley for information about Sookie.

A drained and tortured Bill instinctively reverting to his vampiric nature again, and hurting Sookie AGAINST HIS WILL, and without knowing what he was doing. That will be difficult yet compelling to watch. Bill is always given the most difficult challenges to overcome. This war between his vampire nature and his noble nature is the best part of True Blood!

Jaxx, it has been a pleasure shooting the TB breeze with you.
I hope you have a nice day and a great weekend.

            Team True Blood!!

            Ollie, can’t argue with you there. While I love the viking, and I would love for her to end up with him, I think Sam or someone else will, sadly for me. If Sookie does not get turned, she cannot possibly end up with either of them, imo. Sam or Alcide or Quinn would be her best bet then, especially if she wants a family and to grow old with someone. But if AB turns her, then we’re talking a different ball game. May the best vamp win!! Maybe AB will have Sookie stay single after she thinks about everything she’s been through for a while. :;

That to me is still giving him credit, just with a bit of word playing.”

***I didn’t say only in human life and I said not so much in his vampiric life. There are complaints no one ever talks about Bill’s good qualities. He had a couple of endearing qualities I thought when he first met Sookie, but as we are coming to find out now, more and more of these qualities are being tainted by the information being brought to light. The most noble act any vampire could do for the one they love is self sacrifice. If he truly loves Sookie and wants to save Sookie any further pain than what he is causing her now, that would be a noble vampiric act, imo. Godric was a noble vampire.

“You also say that you will not give him credit yet you will give him points for all he has tried to do. That to me is still giving him credit, just with a bit of word playing.”

***I should have used the word “respect” in place of credit and the word “merit” in place of points.

“….He also gave confessions at what was his almost true death that it was never his nature”

***But he also did not deny enjoying it either.

“…So you cannot give Bill credit for his killings, his mission, his lies. Even when he admits to the killings and doesn’t try to say it was Lorenas fault which is noble in itself(talk about a beautiful expressive face, his eyes said it all, mirrors to a tormented soul), his mission that he was ordered to do, and before he knew Sookie, And that he keeps things from Sookie which he feels is to protect and save Sookie from pain.”

***But look at all the pain he is causing her now.

“1. Sending her to Dallas without a warning to the dangers. Risking her life to achieve his own ends again…….”

***Sookie went of her own free will to the FOTS. She knew there would be dangers. She’s not that blonde. Bill warned her of the dangers and she still went, “easy peasy” I believe was her answer. Eric admitted to lying about the V sales immediately when RE confronted him. Eric was testing the waters. Considering the lies Bill is being caught in now, I don’t think Sookie will mind Eric trying to pin the V sales on Bill to save Pam’s life. Sookie now knows what the bond is between a maker and his child. Telling Sookie she means nothing to him is not a lie if you don’t understand or are conflicted with your feelings towards someone. Again, he had to spurn Sookie, there were quite a few vampires and guards in that house, all with excellent hearing.

“Eric knew better than to react to someone so old as Russell.

Yes Eric is confused, not quite had that planned had he? How strange that someone as old as Eric has not been able to sort out what he is feeling.”

***Who in the world plans having feelings for someone?? It just happens, whether you want it to or not or if you are ready for it or not.

“Eric did not react to Russell because he did not care to because there was the chance that he would fail as well.”

***Eric is a quick learner, he saw what happened to Bill and learned from his mistake.

“He took the easy way out, becoming a sycophant. Yes he has many expressions, mostly here they were disgustingly cowtowing to Russsell. He layed on the syrupy sweetness so thick I was gagging with the taste of it.”

***Eric knows how he has to act to RE. This is part of his mental strategy. Even AS in the article stated “it is all part of a bigger plan”.

“Bill tried to play Russell with action, Eric is playing him in another way, I wonder if we will see a shower scene between the two??? LOL, Eric was sure pouring it on thick,.
Thank god Bill never deemed to lower himself to that level.”

***And, look where that got Bill.

“Eric could have fought, isn’t he the great warrior??????”

***Why would he? He just saw what happened to Bill. What good would the 2 of them chained and tortured have done to help the situation. Eric has more than 1 problem to solve right now. He has to use his head and anything at his disposal right now to keep himself alive to save Pam and keep an eye on Sookie in that house.

“If Russell were killed all the better don’t you think??
            A quicker and eventual end.”

***And then what, one or both of them gets staked or tortured to death or brought in front of the magister?? There are a lot of vampires in that house loyal to RE and were guards too. They would have never had a chance, even teaming up right then and there. Eric was using his head.

“All Eric cares for right now is his vendetta. Even Pam will take a 2nd seat to that. How do you know that the “bigger plan” has to do with Pam and Sookie?? Where is the evidence?”

***I disagree. Pam is his child. He will save her and he is keeping an eye on Sookie. That’s all he can do right now. One step at a time. When Lorena showed fangs and stepped forward saying she’s wear Sookie’s rib cage as a hat, Eric took a step or two forward. He would have stopped Lorena in her tracks or stepped in front of Sookie.

“That is pure wishful thinking on your part. Pam is his progeny yes, and Sookie means nothing to him, as he confessed, shouldn’t we always take what Eric says as gospel? ”

***No, I’m taking TV Guide, AB and Alex’s printed words.

“I think this “bigger plan” you are talking about has nothing to do with these women, but is really all a huge powerplay, because that is what I believe Eric really cares about.”

***I guess we’ll have to wait and see on this one.

Well this has been fun, until the next episode….. 😀

          • ~Caitlin

Maybe Sookie will end up with know one. Then, we will all be equally upset. I’d be po’d if she ends up with a character they just bring in at the end of the series. Honestly, I don’t see her having children. She can hardly go a day without getting beaten to near death. She’s using up her 9 lives fast. Even if she does not end up with a vampire, she will never be safe. A lot of people in the supe world are discovering her telepathic ability. More people will discover the other supernatural thing she is. They will want to use her. She’ll be in danger with or without any supe guy. I love Sam but I think he’s to good for her because she treats him like not even second best. I always saw Quinn as the rebound guy. She was fond of him but nothing more. Just my opinion.

            Morning Jaxx!
Oh Honey, I know that I am mostly sleep deprived and that trying to stay away from the caffeine is not always a good thing but I think that maybe after your last post you may be in caffeine overload…LOL. Neither seem to be a good thing.
Sigh. It has all come round again, AdoreBill has to keep the peace when it should be all of us helping and providing an example for the newbies, and of course as always with respect which usually has pretty much been our trademark……. Sigh

For that I was considering not replying to your last cuz you know that I have a great reply to every statement you made. So I pondered and worried about replying at all. But you know that is not my style. So I will chime in one more time, and you do realize that it is out of respect that we go head to head with each other right? I am afraid that this may not be short……oh dear, how welcomed it would have been, then again how else would you spend your morning cup?
So go grab that double latte and biscotti and away we go……………
            ***

I am glad you found endearing qualities in Bill, he does have them. But we must never forget that he is also a vampire, forced to become one at the hands of a masochistic, sadly obsessed, desperately lonely maker who herself was made in the image of what we are now led to believe was someone who committed unspeakable horrors and made her, a young beautiful loving woman, partake in these horrors thus molding her in his own image first. She was not strong enough to rise above. Truly sad. I feel for Lorena, she loves Bill so deeply. Her drug of choice.

Bill had lost all that kept him human, and for a time, sadly and horribly, became a reflection of her, her mirror. That he never denied enjoying partaking in the unspeakable horrors, that he never tried to blame her for what ultimately were his actions freely, also denotes another act of a good and noble soul.

Yes Bill enjoyed it, killing innocents, we saw that, he also was man enough to eventually turn away from this, to deny his maker and rise above. Why should he bother? They were doing so well together. So again, why? Because deep down that was not who he is, it was never his nature. He needed to find himself again. It did not happen overnight and it almost cost him his existence but he did deny that part of himself that was her mirror.

Actually Bill was going the way of Godric, sacrificing himself by his own hand, rather than continue as a monster. Had she not released him, stake in hand, he would have given up that life.
He now welcomed again the true death again, rather than continue in this hated existence without the only beautiful miracle he has found who helped him regain that part of him that was so long ago lost, that he wanted so much to find again.
He may have forsaken Lorena and that existence but he was never able to truly find himself again until he met Sookie.

For whatever reasons he went to her, he loved her and tried to protect her from hurt but the method he used was not the best one.
He should have been honest from the start. I have always admitted that he made that fatal mistake. But that was a “human” mistake. He had a hard time being up front and honest, because he has not been able to trust anyone for so long.
I believe that Bills dark past torments him enough so that he has built so many barriers to his soul, it has kept him isolated and to himself, not letting anyone in easily, He keeps so much hidden in side that it is hard to let anyone in.

Bill has not felt love in such a long time and Sookie was changing that for him. She is his miracle as we have seen him say. Love can do that, and it is wonderful when it does.

We are also going to see this effect on Eric, but where Bill embraced this and desired this, Eric does not and will not easily. He is too angered by the possibility of it.
            “I do not love humans”
“I do not get attached to humans”

Soon we will see that Bill will accept that no matter what he does, and how much he tries to change for her that his past coupled with the unavoidable situation that is his vampiric nature will always be putting her in danger and he then, as much as it will wrench his soul, he will sacrifice that part of him that she brought forth, his humanity, and let her go. It will hurt both of them but he will do it to give her the life that she deserves. One he feels that he cannot do.
            Noble again.
Would anyone else make such a sacrifice given the same circumstances?

Yes Bill tried to save Sookie from pain and suffering but ultimately he will realize that he cannot. You said:

***But look at all the pain he is causing her now.***

Yes, Bill has realized this and for that reason he will let her go, again how many would do that? He will give up everything to give her a chance to find a way to be truly happy, to give her the life she deserves, which now he feels is not with him. He will love and hurt her to give her this. He will also hurt anything good he has become. I hope that he does not lose this humanity that Sookie has helped him find again.

***Sookie went of her own free will to the FOTS. She knew there would be dangers. She’s not that blonde. Bill warned her of the dangers and she still went, “easy peasy” I believe was her answer.***

If you remember, Bill tried to prevent Sookie from going to Dallas. He told Eric NO. That he did not want Sookie put in a dangerous situation again for Erics own selfish reasons.
Erics reply was “If I want her I can simply take her”.
Ultimately Sookie would have had no choice.
She went willingly to Dallas also after making a deal to help Lafayette who Eric had bitten and tortured in his Dungeon of Doom.
Eric did not care who got hurt, or about any consequences, as long as he got what he wanted, and at that point it was only Godric. That he put Sookie in danger was not even of a concern to him. Bill tried to form a plan because Eric did not have one. It was Sookie who came up with a plan that only put her in danger. For Bill this was unacceptable, but for Eric…….well, we know.

Sookie: “You let me walk into a trap”
            Eric: “I regret that, had I known…..”
Sookie: “You did, but because it was Godric you’d risk everything.

In saying “Easy Peasy” , Sookie was only trying to assuage Bills great fear for her safety, and that he as well as no other vamp could not help her during the day. This was not even a concern for Eric.

***I don’t think Sookie will mind Eric trying to pin the V sales on Bill to save Pam’s life.***

Do you actually believe that Sookie would think this acceptable, that any decent person would? Is it ok to hurt someone you hate to save another???? When you talk about Bill having to be honest all the time, and accept the consequences. Why cannot the same rules be put to Eric? This is what I find exasperating, Bill cant but Eric can.
            Most unfair.

***Who in the world plans having feelings for someone?? It just happens, whether you want it to or not or if you are ready for it or not.****

Same can be said for Bill.

***Eric is a quick learner, he saw what happened to Bill and learned from his mistake***

Yes, he was quick to save himself.

***And, look where that got Bill.***

Yet even in the face of death, Bill retains his dignity.

            ***Eric was using his head.****

And Bill…… his passion and his heart.

***”If Russell were killed all the better don’t you think??
            A quicker and eventual end.”
And then what, one or both of them gets staked or tortured to death or brought in front of the magister?? There are a lot of vampires in that house loyal to RE and were guards too. They would have never had a chance, even teaming up right then and there. Eric was using his head.***

Yet Eric plans on killing Russell eventually, that is his ultimate goal. How does he “plan” on getting away with the death of a king?
Pin it on Bill again??? LOL…..it does seem to be his style.

***When Lorena showed fangs and stepped forward saying she’s wear Sookie’s rib cage as a hat, Eric took a step or two forward. He would have stopped Lorena in her tracks or stepped in front of Sookie.***

In this also he was doing his kings bidding. We saw the wrath of the king when Bill was needlessly drained by the weres, they took it upon themselves to step outside his orders. Eric would be in serious trouble had he allowed harm to come to Sookie while in his charge.

I will agree that Eric cares very much for Pam. He is only frustratingly curious about Sookie and I think deep down very angry with her for making him feel anything at all that he does not understand. That is why he spurned her. He could have easily whispered in her ear that he was playacting but he did not because he at that time told her the truth. She means nothing to him as long as the vendetta was so close within his reach (just as she meant nothing to him when Godric was so close within his reach). But I am sure that once Eric is done with this he will find time for her until the next time something else takes precedence over her.

***No, I’m taking TV Guide, AB and Alex’s printed words.***

As am I! We all know that eventually Eric will feel something for Sookie more than curiosity. It is inevitable and Sookie will be on the rebound of her relationship with Bill and extremely vulnerable. Great time to step in.
There is also Alcide who will help her heal her heart.
All in all great drama ahead.

***I guess we’ll have to wait and see on this one.

Finally, after all this………..I agree with this last!!! LOL

Have a great weekend Jaxx and enjoy the next epi. I will not post again as I have an even more so crazy week ahead of me. Even the wee hours that I am awake will be taken up.
            Take care,

            Team True Blood!

          • jaxx

Touche’ Nia re the coffee. I actually had a good laugh at that one. 😉

And, out of respect, I will not reply again after this post on this topic either. We would only keep going back and forth, so let’s agree to disagree once again and call it a day with this one.

Tomorrow’s episode should be a good one. I’m sure we’ll have more to talk about in the days ahead.

Take care and hope you’re family is doing fine. 🙂

        • jaxx

P.S. Hubby bought me the cover with Eric and Sookie on it. Now that’s love. LOL.

          • ~Caitlin

I didn’t know there was a Eric/Sookie cover. They sent the Bill/Sookie in the mail.

          • Lucky you Caitlin that you got that cover! 🙂

          • ~Caitlin

Anna and Steven do look lovely together on the cover so it’s okay.

          • Nia

Caitlin, both covers are wonderfully done and everyone is beautiful! I agree wholeheartedly.
            Lucky Sookie!

      • Hi Jaxx,

Well what about the Bill quotes would love to hear those or is TV GUIDE bias.

        • jaxx

Ollie, I knew others would take care of the Bill quotes. I like to share. 😉

    • Pamsminion

Is Bill protecting Sookie? He has a dossier on Sookie for a reason. Lets not forget he was a procurer. Bill is not what he seems.

      • Wow such nasty comments about Bill but why the hatred? See it is these comments that ruffles everyone’s feathers including my own, but I bite my tongue because it gets so tiring to explain countless times over and over again to others who cannot read between the lines or “place themselves in other people’s shoes”. What you see as self pity I see as a tortured soul. So are you stating that he should embrace what he is?

This is why I hate the “Team” stuff except for Team True Blood. I hate seeing them on polls, articles and in comments because it creates animosity and takes the fun out of the show and the pleasure of watching the storyline to “protecting” and “defending” your favorite character. Even the best of us who see the beauty in all the characters and enjoy their uniquest characteristics fall into the trap of “defending” because hearing negative stuff gets to you after awhile.

Therefore, Pamsminion your comment has been edited because the negativity is unnecessary and counterproductive to the enjoyment of True Blood.

        • ~Caitlin

          Hi Ollie,
Even though I prefer Eric/Sookie together, I still like Bill. He’s been through and beyond his fair share of suffering. He was chained to his executioner for decades. Loreana wouldn’t even give him a moments peace to mourn the loss of his son. Instead, she rubbed salt into an already open wound. Even though I don’t agree with his keeping secrets. I can understand he doesn’t want to lose her.

        • ~Caitlin

I’m also a Twilight fan and I never say Team Edward. I like Jacob also. I agree with you on that. I never say i’m on team this or that. It would make it seem like I hate the other person and I don’t. I don’t hate Bill. I wish we could see a flashback of Bill and his wife in happier times. It’s hard not to defend a character you like.

          Team True Blood!

        • Pamsminion

Why is it that someone say one negative thing about Bill some people get confrontational? I have read lots of remarks here that says negative things about Eric and nada editing. We watch the same show but some people have different opinions on what they get from the show. You may see Bill as a tortured soul/hero, I see him differently, just as how you may see Eric differently. We all have our own opinions, and that’s what makes it interesting.

          • I like how you phrased it in this post Pamsminion. 🙂 Yes we have great discussions and debates as Nia, Lizzie, Jaxx and PBT can attest to and do a great job stating why they feel a certain way by presenting facts, quotes and ideas that can be backed up somehow but is a respectful way. Using words such as “nauseating” hoping “they meet the sun” are not. As for the editing it happens on both sides and some are completely deleted due to the hurtful comments about either the character or actor that serves no purpose and cannot be backed up with facts, but just serves as a venue for the commenter to spew venom.

As I said earlier I like how you presented your opinion in this post without using disheartening words.

    • lizzie1701

      Hi Nia,

Thanks for your great post = I always agree with you! You know what? It is getting that way that I don’t feel comfortable coming over here any more. This was my first site and I have had many a lovely conversation with many a friend. I first posted here a year ago. Now it is more “eric centric” and woe if you are a Bill supporter. This is sad. We don’t know for sure if what transpires will be like the books as there may be a surprise yet in store. I just can’t believe all the dark sh*t AB is giving to Bill – it is hard to bear. The only good thing about it is that Stephen Moyer, being the fantastic actor he is, is making it all so believable and that man has to be nominated for awards for 2011!

Anyhow, I don’t come over as much as I used to and I don’t think that will change. This is not a happy site – all full of vengeance and “Eric Love”. I used to like the Eric character, but his rabid fan base sucks, literally. I jsut can’t watch him on tele anymore. This has nothing to do with Alex, who I think is a great actor and plays the character of Eric well. It looks like AB is going to listen to the Eric fan base and follow that storyline. I feel cheated. AB brought me into TB with the love story of Bill and Sookie. I also read between the lines and saw the humanity in Bill and wanted to see that side unfold. I feel disppointed that this will no longer be the case. Or maybe it will in the upcoming seasons, who knows.

I feel lied to in that we have seen Sookie declare her love to Bill, sees the darkness and the good i his eyes and we see her begging to Bill after his torture to come back to “life” as they have been through a lot of stuff and that she loves him to find that she has passion for him??? WTF??? So, a few days after saying all this to Bill she is going to shag Eric? I find this unbelievable and it really lowers my opinion of Sookie. Book Sookie here we come. My only hope is that something twisted willhappen, as stated in TV Guide, but what twist I don’t know. Most disappointed.

Anyhow, I will watch out for this season, only for Bill and some of the others. Eric having amnesia is so stupid a scenario I just don’t know if I can go there. Sookie will be stupid, falling for him because he will be “nice Eric” – just like Bill. Ridiculous. I think I will be done.

Anyhow, I will always support Nia, Adore Bill and Isis. Just can’t cope with the Eric shippers.

      .

      • Lizzie,

I understand exactly how you feel, and to be honest, in some ways I feel the same way. I like Alex. I’m just not a fan of his character. And I too am NOT looking forward to the main season 4 storyline. That is one of the biggest things that drove me out of the books. I find it unbelievable that people can ‘ship Sookie and Eric from the books when in the beginning of their relationship, Eric was essentially not himself! He was a different person in the same body. When someone’s personality is changed that much, the person “in love” with them is not with the same person they think they are.

Please don’t leave me and Nia and Adore Bill here to fend for ourselves, Lizzie! We need you! 🙂 Besides, who else can we joke with so far about having Bill for ourselves? LOL

        • jaxx

Lizzie, I agree with Nia and Isis, please don’t leave. We need good debaters on both sides. Honestly, sometimes people see things in other ways and it’s fun to share, even though we sometimes get a little heated. I do appreciate your comments and if we don’t agree, so what. We see what we see in our favorites and no one should have to apologize for that. That’s how life is.

To me, and this is not an argument just how I feel, the Eric we see while he has amnesia is the potential of the Eric he can be. No, he is not there yet, but it is in there and without all of the vamp politics and everything in his past, this is the true potential of Eric deep down inside, not the surface Eric we all see and this is jimo, so I hope this answers your question about what I, for one, see in him. 🙂

So for me as one “Eric ‘shipper” (lol, love the term), please stay and debate with us. It wouldn’t be the same without you here. 🙂

      • Nia

        Hey Lizzie sweetie!!
Yes we do understand and yet we will not give up the good fight! So dont you go girl!
It would be wonderful to see respect given to all no matter who is your favorite and what your opinion is. But alas it only takes one pinch to spoil the soup.
I love this show and Alan Ball for bringing it to us. I have faith in him.
I may love Bill with all my heart but I enjoy all the characters as well. I try to stay open minded but will always sail in when there is injustice, unfortunately we see that alot. It is truly sad.
I would like Eric more if circunstances were different, he can be humorous! I loved his hand over Sookies mouth!! That I think was something we all wanted to see done eventually. LOL

So chat with you soon! 🙂

        Team True Blood!

      • Hi Lizzie,

Please don’t leave it just wouldn’t be the same without you. I know how hard it can be at time and as you have heard from Nia, Jaxx, and Isis we don’t want you to leave!!! As you know I try my best and so does Isis to try and maintain respect for each other and as you may have saw in my post to Pam spewing venom just for the sake of it ruins it for everyone. You Nia, Jaxx and PBT are great examples how fans of the SHOW can come together and compare notes on each of their favorites WITHOUT one feeling the need to defend their favorite.

I know how you feel. When you watch the show and say “wow that was interesting I wonder what is going to what happened next to Eric (for a Bill fan) or to Bill (for an Eric fan) that shows maturity which I personally feel you, Nia, Jaxx, Isis and PBT have and learned to present as a model to others. It is true when someone comes in and just spews negativity just to bump up their favorite it unhinges your appreciation for the other character and puts you in the defensive for your favorite.

But as you know we try hard not to allow that to happen but some slip through and have to be reminded to be respectful or just are simply deleted.

LOL!

So I would really would love to encourage you, Nia, Isis, Jaxx and PBT to be role models of intelligent and respectful fans who know how to present ideas and debates in a respectful manner. After all do we really want True Blood fans to be represented to the media and to others as being rude and divided instead of united in this great series and supporting it. Being rude and disrespectful just makes True Bloods fan look bad.

        • jaxx

Well said Ollie. I will try to do this site proud as you are right, it does not look favorable on this site or us in general if we spew hatred in any form. No one will want to come here at all and we have lost a few good ones along the way already which is really a pity.

      Sookie:
Bill please don’t be dead, not after everything we’ve been through. I won’t let you go, I won’t. I ‘m going to make you better if it’s the last thing I do, because I love you Bill Compton and I am not about to let you go.

      Bill:
Eric get her out of here, please.

      Sookie to Eric:
So all that stuff about caring about me that was just crap.

      Eric to Sookie:
I never said I cared about you, you must have dreamt it.

      Sookie:
I hate your F*****G guts Eric Northman. I promise I will pay you back for this.

      Russell:
Sorry I have kept you waiting, a husbands work is never done.

      Lorena to Bill:

  • ~ Caitlin

That above picture of Lorena is creepy as he**.
I liked last nights episode but I thought last weeks was better.
I was surprised when Tara butchered Franklin. However, she picked the worsed weapon and didn’t behead him. I doubt he’s dead. Franklin is so insane I think he might forgive Tara. I loved Tara’s lecture about Talbot and Russell not being happy if Sookie doesn’t get the almonds.

Poor Tommy! It’s no wonder he is so damaged. His mother said she wanted to abort him. His dad is in humane.

I loved seeing Eric put QSA in her place. Last week I thought that Russell remembered Eric. However, this week I think he really doesn’t recognize him. Russell made a crucial mistake by not killing Eric 1,000 years ago.

The Bill/Lorena scenes were powerful. Bill’s words did make me feel some pity for Lorena. Maybe she was a decent person before she became a vampire. She wasn’t decent in the books though. Wonder who her maker is? The scenes were heart wrenching and barbaric. Brilliant job by both of them. Hopefully, Lorena dies next week. Maybe Bill will become a better maker because of this situation.

Looks like Pam will be on the show next week! It seems like she hasn’t been on the show in ages.

The one preview was fantastic. It played like a movie trailer. Who’s Eric killing, Talbot? Russell has Jessica in his clutches?

    • Mortain

Yes, I saw that and my first thought was, sh^t dont kill Jessica off. I actually like her story line, watching her develop has been great.

  • FangsR4Ever

I loved the entire Episode. Things are finally moving along.

  • enquirer808

Loved the look hurt Eric’s face when Sookie said she hated him.
Eric will not be able to forget the look of betrail on Sookie’s face until he can make it up to her.

I don’t think that Franklin is dead.
He is just too funny to die yet.

    • Sandy

Indeed – he looked very defeated hearing her tell him off. When the King walks in – he catches some of what Sookie says to Eric. I thought it was just me that saw his hurt look – but when he put his “fake” face back on for RE (which RE seems to see through along with his pretence of fancying men/flirting) it was very clear then!
Poor Bill – his futile attempt to save Sookie, put his life on the line, accomplished nothing and endangered them all. Thankfully Eric IS thinking things through quickly and buys time for Sookie (plus, he didnt see her shoot light at Coot).
      One of my fav lines….
“Nobody plays the King in Mississippi and gets away with it” ~ Eric
Loved the other line “all hat no cattle” ~Sookie to Eric (that’s a common Southern term like “all talk no action”)
Adore Talbot – and RE – Love the scenes with RE and Sookie.
Oh sweetheart. You really don’t know anything at all. Do you? ~Russell to sookie
So my fav parts of the show were mostly done within the first 10-15 min of the show.
To some it may seem that Eric gave up on Sookie because of his vengeance. I didnt think that at all – to me he totally saved her life – he’s never seen light come out of her hand nor tasted her yet still he cares!
He had to do and act the way he did – I highly doubt he would have said “Please, don’t take this the wrong way – but shut up….thank you” to anyone else. Especially the simple gesture of Thank You. No one he didnt care about would get that many words out of him. He would have just taken them to the library and ignored them.
RE is stealing the show tho! What a testament to the writers and most of all to Denis O’Hare’s acting. He really owns the role and you believe he is 3000yrs old. Good to know he isnt into needless blood shed! Looks like we see Bill drain Sookie which hospitalizes her from the trailers. I personally think one of the vamps take her from the hospital and heals her. Possibly Eric – if he’s able. Nan Flanagan sure looks tough from those promos too. Eric will keep the day walking secret to himself – so will Bill. Bill is a tortured soul – he never catches a break but lets be honest he really screwed up at RE house – he should never had lied about the dossier. He keeps putting Sookie in danger simply because he is a younger vamp and hasnt learned to be patient. Sookie too seems to open her mouth and worry about consequences later – but it creates the needed tension for the drama.
      OK. All for now.
      Cheers
      Sandy

  • melissa

Wow. Great recap of an episode! A lot of twists and turns and some great dialogues between the characters especially the ones between Eric and Sookie when he tells her to shut up and then places a hand over her mouth. Too funny. Bill and Lorenas scene was very touching kind of made me feel sympathy for Lorena. RE and QSA scene where she kept turning his proposal down then finally gave in. RE s a dork. I dont blame QSA for turning him down!!!!!!!!!!!The scene between Crystal and Jason and her sniffing the air hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I think she’s a werepanther because small things like her worrying about the dairy products in her truck when she met Jason and when she pounced on him.meoooooooooow! Jessica glamouring a woman to help Arlene out.
I look forward to next sunday.
Keep up the good work AB

    • Celesteblue

I wouldn’t read too much into the “Dairy Products” that Crystal had, anyone been in Louisiana on a hot summer day? And she had no AC, Hot Shot is in the middle of nowhere… she was just being smart!

Good call on the Crystal’s Fiance/Hot Shot Redneck…I was wondering if he was just so inbred his face always looked like that lol!

  • Sandra

How did Tara know that Sookie was locked in the house somewhere? She was locked up herself when Sookie was brought in that night. Did I miss a scene?

    • Melissa

Franklin told Tara that Sookie was there…..

  • Shelly

My favorite line was when the king was sniffing Sookie, and Eric, with a creepy big cheese grin, says ” I haven’t tasted IT yet but from all indication I think it would be extrodinary”. Hilarious. The creepy smile made it a classic.

I can’t wait till next weeks episode. I want to see the look of panic on Eric’s face when he realizes Sookie is in mortal danger. I wonder why we have never seen his reaction before he can since her emotions after all. If you notice in the previews he and the Queen have the bleeds so I think he questions her and Hadley about Sookies true identity.

    Less than 5 days ya’ll….

  • AKel

There was a lot that I liked in this episode but the Bill/Lorena scene wasn’t one of them. It felt overly melodramatic to me…. down to the lighting, everything. I don’t think it was the actors or the writing. To me it was the direction.

Loved Sookie & Tara kicking azz.

Thought AP did a good job in her scene with DOH. She looked convincingly vulnerable & clueless. Loved the way Russell treated her like a child… which after one of her questions was “Do you have a crown?”, can’t say I blame him.

One thing I disagree with the review on is the statement that “Bill can only hope that Eric will help save Sookie, but Eric is too close to the vengeance he has sought for 1,000 years to let anything stand in his way.” It makes it sounds like Eric could have done something and that Eric’s only problem at present is his vengeance. I think Eric’s priorities are 1) Stay alive (he’s no help to anyone dead), 2) Pam, 3) vengeance and then 4) Sookie if he can fit her in. After Bill attacked Russell and Russell showed what he could do with a mere shrug of the shoulder what was Eric supposed to have done? Single handedly take down Russell, Talbot, Lorena & all of the other guards and Franklin? Any act of aggression or trying to “save” anyone would have been an act of futility…. and then where would he be… probably in slave quarters next to Bill. I do think it was funny how Bill was saying “Eric, save Sookie”…. and then Sookie yells “Eric, save Bill”… yeah, everyone hates him and wants him to save everyone! LOL.

    • ~ Caitlin

AKel I agree with you about Eric. At the start of the episode Sookie was getting on my nerves. Talk about being counter productive. I was glad when Eric told her to “shut up”. Really what did they expect Eric to do in front of the King? He did emphasize to Russell that Sookie was valuable. Sometimes Sookie acts like the world revolves around her. I understand that she is naive but Eric has a lot on his plate and he needs to figure out how to handle it. Sadly, it’s only going to get worse for Eric. He’s about to snap.

    • jaxx

This was a very intense and dark episode.

I agree with Akel and Caitlin though. Eric was judged a little too harshly in this review, imo. Akel is right. Eric’s first priority is to stay alive so he can save his child Pam whose execution is probably less than a day away now; his vengeance on Russell (I mean come on, RE killed his entire family and he has had to wait 1,000 years to even the score); and keep an eye on Sookie, which he is doing. Eric has to act the way he is towards Sookie because he’s afraid Sookie will talk too much and blow the whole mission. Vampires have excellent hearing. The whole house is full of vampires. Eric can’t take the chance of having someone hear him talk anything but the way he has towards her. Eric can’t have Sookie screaming “werewolf in the streets” about everything she knows and about what her and Eric talked about a couple of days ago when the were came for Sookie. Sookie has to learn to keep quiet more. I’m glad Eric covered her mouth, someone had to. She’ll get them all killed. Eric is playing Russell and Talbot. Talbot is playing into it but Eric knows Russell is too old and too smart to play into everything. Eric has to keep things cool around Russell, especially Sookie and his relationship and his true feelings for Sookie. Eric did have a hurt look when Sookie said she hated him. He will not soon forget this look and he will make it up to her. Eric knows RE won’t harm Sookie. She is too valuable to waste. Eric doesn’t know what has transpired with Sookie/Tara breaking out and Sookie finding Bill and confronting Lorena. Can’t wait to see what he’ll do when he finds everything out.

And, I definitely agree, Akel, everyone hates Eric, he’s the bad guy, but whose name do they shout to save them all, Eric’s, so I guess he’s not such a bad guy after all. And, Caitlin, you are right, it unfortunately is only going to get worse for Eric.

Actually felt bad for Bill being tortured, and at the same time, felt bad for Lorena having to be ordered to kill her child and love of her life as well. It broke her heart having to do this to Bill. But then she attacked Sookie, so my sympathy for her stopped there. Seeing previews for next week, Alcide will save Sookie from Lorena and Bill nearly draining Sookie. Thank you Alcide. The kind, silent hero.

Love Tara in this episode, finally back to her “take no crap” style, although Franklin will heal. Watch your back Tara.

Actually felt bad for Jason when he found out Crystal was engaged to, I believe, it’s going to be Felton. Jason seems to have fallen head over heals for this one.

Sam is getting in too deep with his family. He’s starting a downward spiral. Too bad, Sam’s a good guy.

I agree again Akel, of all the dumb questions to ask Russell is if he has a crown. You’ve just been taken yourself and you’re trying to save Bill and that’s the most important question you could ask??? Wow, is all I have to say.

Looking forward to Epi. 7, but I feel it’s going to be a “Godric meets the sun” type episode. Have tissues ready.

      • ~Caitlin

Maybe some how Eric will get Sookie out of the hospital and give her his blood. Since the scene in the book where Sookie gets stake was omitted from the show. Just a thought though. I agree the crown question was dumb. Hopefully, she was playing dumb. I think she knew there was a queen because Bill mentioned it.

Was anyone else surprised that Alcide was a white wolf? I didn’t expect that?

        • jaxx

Hi Caitlin. White equals good so I’m not surprised Alcide was the white wolf. I had the same thought earlier about Eric giving Sookie his blood at the hospital, but with everything going on with Pam and Russell, I don’t think he’ll have enough time to do that, but I could be wrong. I can’t wait to see Eric’s reaction to the Bill/Lorena/Sookie incident. I actually think Claudine has something to do with bringing Sookie back to life after white light experience.

          • ~Caitlin

Your probably right about Claudine saving Sookie. Maybe Eric will be amused about them escaping. He’s not in a humerous mood though. When he feels Sookie near death he’ll be po’d. However, Russells going to be irrate when he finds out so Erics going to have a more difficult time convincing Russell that he’s not on Sookies side. I think Russells already suspisous of Eric. Plus Pam’s fate lies in Erics cunningness and Russells generosity. Russell might take it out on Pam and use her as leverage to keep Eric in line. I don’t think Russell’s going to give Pam to Eric just like that. Things are never that easy. Russell might have been listening to Eric and Sookies conversation. Who knows with Russell?

      • doohansen

I have to say that I love Alcide better than any vamp. But, I must say, I don’t understand why Eric is being so villified. Let’s see here, Bill told Sookie that she was of no concern to him after telling her that he had just f@cked Lorena, he ignored Tara, he kept a secret dossier on her and her family. All in the name of love for her. Ok, I will accept that.
Eric is playing the part of a loyal member of the court of Russell to save his child. Eric is nothing if not a survivor and strategist. He has no loyalty to Sookie at this point, he is intrigued by her and knows there is something special about her. He has never expressed undying love for her and is under no obligation to be her protector. So both are pretending (at this time) to be someone who they are not in the interest of self preservation or the preservation of someone they love (Pam/Sookie) Why is one worse than the other?

        • Antonio el hombre lobo

Ultimately, All of these guys had their Own reasons for trying to protect Miss Stackhouse. Even Alcide was protecting her because he was under obligation to Eric because his dad owed him money! Bill may have been selfless Yes but we are learning More about him…His true reasons for coming back to Bon Temps?
Bill Has been hiding something! Perhaps He has Not been totally honest either! You are right Eric Never professed undying love for her was Never under ANY obligation to protect her…Eric was just being Eric so why would Anyone be surprised?
Bill is the one whos been keeping secrets. Stephen said something would happen later this season that would Greatly test their relatioship and IF Sookie can accept and forgive him after That well i guess its meant to be.

          • ~Caitlin

Well said Antonio. None of Sookies suiters are perfect. They all come with their own set of baggage even (Sam). All of them are directly or indirectly dangerous to some extent. Also, you can’t always judge a book by it’s cover.

  • Melissa

I just can’t believe Franklin is gone…..I’m a bit shocked. Even though he was insane and mean….I was falling for his character. Can’t wait for next week’s episode. I wish it was two hours long instead of an hour.

    • Melissa, I don’t think he is. Remember, you have to stake or behead a vampire in order to kill them… He could quite possibly still be “undead”…

      • Melissa

Then crossing my fingers that it isn’t so….and his head is ok.

  • jaxx

Best 2 quotes of the night:

Sookie: What are you doing here?
Tara: Killing vampires and savin’ your life.

    and

Eric to Sookie: “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but shut up.” (Hand over Sookie’s mouth) “Thank you.”

    • *smirking* I have to agree with those… They’re pretty great, and still have me snickering just reading them!

    • LLE

      I love it.

    • jaxx

well “life” was supposed to be “a**” but I didn’t think you could swear here, so I didn’t.

  • cox

I don’t necessary think Sookie was behavng like a spoiled child. She is inexperienced and naive on several levels, which makes her at times compulsive. She has a good moral compass, and strong integrity, and unfortunately expects other to behave the same.

  • LLE

Bill stake the bodyguard and tried to staked Russell because he did not want Russell to tell Sookie the truth of what Bill. Bill did not do it to save Sookie at all. Bill acted like an idiot. Eric was watching over Sookie and he let Russell know that Sookie is special and keep her live. Eric is using his head to keep Sookie alive.

Sookie act like an idiot and a zombie. Tara act liked Sookie in the books. Sookie act like a spoil brat that needs to grow up.

I can understand Sookie want to save Bill but she did not have any plans and she did not care that anyone else could had been killed. It’s was stupid of Sookie to yell in front of everyone to save Bill. If Eric did tried to save Bill, Eric would be in the slave quarters with Bill.
