HBO has just announced that True Blood, it’s hit show based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, has been renewed for a 7th season.

Many rumors have flown among fans that True Blood Season 6 would be the last for the popular HBO vampire show, thanks to a less than shining opinion on Season 5. Then there was the announcement that Season 6 would be shortened to 10 episodes and the rumormill really went into meltdown!

But thanks to a large fan base and a Season 6 premiere night that bought in 4.5 million viewers (and then 4 million per episode for the next 4 instalments), HBO announced on Monday July 15 that True Blood Season 7 would return in the summer of 2014. But was there ever any doubt, considering that True Blood is HBO’s third most watched original scripted TV show, being beaten only by juggernauts The Sopranos and Game of Thrones?

Michael Lombardo,  HBO programming chief announced:

‘True Blood’ remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers. Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV.

It seems that whatever pep talk Alan Ball gave to Mark Kundis and Brian Buckner is obviously working! Buckner will also be retained as the showrunner for True Blood Season 7.

Congrats to the cast and crew of True Blood.
