True Blood Season 3 Spoilers: Alan Ball and the Writers Reveal

November 3, 2009 by

True-Blood-Season-FinaleAlan Ball, writers Raelle Tucker and Alexander Woo spoke with SciFiWire recently and revealed 12 major spoilers points for season 3 of True Blood.  So get ready True Blood fans for some major spoilers news. Remeber if you do not want to know DO NOT read any further.

Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer): Alan confirmed that the storyline of Bill‘s kidnapping will last for”about six episodes.” However we don’t know if that means that it will be back-to-back from episodes 1-6 or will be spread out throughout the season.  This is one fans are definitely going to be talking about.

Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell): As stated before, in season 3 Sam will be busy trying to find his family which Raelle Tucker will get to write their characters a lot in episode 2. She states that:

“I’m getting to write Sam‘s family, which is a lot of fun, and, really, I feel really satisfying as a character arc,” she said. “I really am glad that he’s taking this journey and he’s learning about himself. I find that interesting. They aren’t the brightest people, maybe. At least they appear that way. They’re fairly dysfunctional, but like anybody else, they have their good things about them and not so good things. They’re still getting to know each other. Sam‘s still getting to know them and so are we.”

WerewolvesAlan states that the werewolves in season 3 are going to be just wolves.  They will be people who can transforms into wolves who will be bigger and stronger with their eyes glowing orange a little bit.

Supernatural WorldAlexander Woo explains that season 3 is not only about the supernatural world of vampires, werewolves and shapshifters but he is also excited about the expanding world that will occur in the next season.

“The entire world is going to get a lot bigger,” Woo said. “Not only the human world, but in Sookie‘s eyes, she’s going to see the whole supernatural world. Luckily, since this show is through Sookie‘s eyes, as an audience we’ll get to see a much larger supernatural world.”

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin):  Raelle states that Sookie‘s powers will expand in season 3 to not only include her telepathy but her expanding powers such as her glowing hands.  “I think that Sookie is conscious of her abilities more this season than she’s been, and she’s questioning them more,” Tucker said. “We’re going to be exploring that more this season.”

Vampire King of Mississippi (Denis O’Hare):  Alan states that the Vampire King of Mississippi in season three will be a contrast to Sophie-Anne, the Vampire Queen of Louisiana (Evan Rachel Wood).

“He’s older,” Ball said. “He’s much more mature. He’s much more methodical and grounded. She’s kind of crazy. To me, she’s kind of like Paris Hilton/Lindsay Lohan, where she has a very short attention span and she’s very, very egomaniacal and very self-obsessed and doesn’t really think about her actions whereas the vampire king is very much an adult. He has an agenda. He has things he wants to achieve. I think he’s much more formidable than she is.”

Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten):  This season Jason seems to get a little break from all the mayhem he endured in season 2.  According to Raelle this season will focus on Jason NOT getting into trouble and staying out of trouble’s way.  This will be interesting to see how it plays out considering Jason was the one who shot Eggs at the end of season 3.

Queen Sophie-Anne (Evan Rachel Wood):  Evan will be returning in season 3 in her role as Queen Sophie-Anne who is engaged in selling “V” which may get her in trouble in some way.

“Well, Sophie-Anne, when last we left her, she was sort of behind this selling of “V” as a recreational drug on the streets pretty much,” Ball said. “That’s not something a vampire authority figure should be doing. If higher-up vampire authority figures figure that out, they’re not going to be happy.”

Biker Gang:  In season three we will see the introduction of a biker gang called Coot’s F–k You Crew which Raelle states that the new characters are still evolving and won’t be what they appear to be.  As Raelle explains this biker gang is very mysterious and has been around much longer then alot of people think.  Raelle wouldn’t elaborate any further, simply stating that “I don’t want to say too much about them right now because I think that we are in the early stages of figuring that out.”

Tommy MickensAlexander Woo informed SciFiWire that he is writing the material for this new character which he states “will make a huge impact on our favorite characters.” Without giving too much away Woo states that Tommy Mickens will play a “very prominently in the emotional life of at first one, and then later several other of our characters. He’ll be the first domino to push the rest.”

Headgear:  Now this one I must admit has me wondering what the writers are referring to. Whether they are referring to actual headgear to be wore by the characters or a metaphor for a protective shell that the characters will place around themselves. Raelle explains helmets became a joke in the writer’s room with the writers becoming aware they were relying too much on protective headgear.

“There’ve been several moments that we’ve been pitching things and thought, ‘Oh, well, maybe she could be wearing a helmet and that would protect her. Maybe he could wear a helmet in that scene,’” Tucker recalled. “Suddenly we realized we had a whole bunch of characters wearing helmets for no particular reason. So we thought oh, that’s the theme of the season.”

Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard):  With the Eric fans demanding more screen time for him and a big romantic link between Eric and Sookie, the writers state that does not occur until much later in Charlaine Harris‘ books .   As Raelle states:

“You know what’s funny is that he’s in the first two books, he’s a fairly minor character in Sookie‘s universe,” Tucker said. “There’s a lot of fan pressure that they’re supposed to be this big romantic thing, which actually in Charlaine [Harris]‘s books doesn’t happen until much, much further down. I think if we did that, we’d probably bore them all to death. I think part of the magic of Eric is some of the mystery of Eric and the inaccessibility of Eric. I think you don’t want to turn them into the nice romantic love interest who’s in every scene. I think his danger is important so not just throwing him up whenever somebody wants to see his bare chest is actually a more disciplined approach.”

So there you have it, the latest spoilers.  So now lets start speculating as we wait for the return of Season 3 of True Blood.

I dont have a favourite out of bill and eric. I like both, but I do want to see the eric and sookie relationship develope. Not in the hope that they will build a romantic loving relationship.. To me, thats the dynamics of bill and sookie. I want to see more eric and sookie interaction because of the tension between the two. I dont have a growing hope they will have a relationship like bill and sookie, and frankly I dont want them to. To me the sookie eric relationship should be a contrast to bill and sookie. Isnt that the whole point in a love triangle?
Just give the audience more eric/sookie interaction, whether that be the tension filled banter. Eric forever teasing sookie, sookie hating his guts and getting into funny arguments. Sexual tension, denial about their feelings towards each other. Whatever they maybe? I see these things as the dynamic in the eric/sookie relationship. Thats what I like about it, and thats what I want to see. Sookie will never love eric, like she loves bill. They are totally different.
AB and the creators are always going to play down the eric/sookie relationship.. For now anyway. Its so obvious that 1) they dont want to take away fromt the fact that there are other characters present in this great show… and 2) they want to build the suspense for eric and sookie. They want to drag it out, and I am a patient person. So I am fairly happy!
Enough of the love triangle anyway, I love the entire show. Cant wait to see what happens in the lives of lafayette, tara and jessica.
This new biker gang has really caught my attention!! cant wait.

      Hi Jay,

I agree with you only slightly, but as an Eric fan I would.

I am so looking forward to season 3 and just hope that AB and his team do a fantastic job, which I am sure they will.

  • Kristen

It sounds like it will be great, I’m so excited, I love all the suspense and drama and just pure crazyness that has been put into the show. The spoilers dont ruin it for me at all, if anything its making more excited to see it!!

  • Antonio

Some scant spoilers are OK But I Do Not want to Too Much!
If there are Too Many spoilers than there is No Drama,No suspense,No Mystery..Without That element Why Bother watching it next year? Its like for me Someone telling me how a film ends revealing a big “twist” and then making me sit through it Anyway! Why Bother If I know exactly whats gonna happen?
Not that the writers are telling us verbatim what will transpire next season That Would Kill All the Suspense!
Bill is abducted taken away Lets leave it at that!
A hint is 1 thing Revealing a major plot point is something else!

  • http://trueblood lynn

If they take Bill out that long I wont be watching it! Eric and Sookie Stackhouse thats stupid. I watch it for her and Bill

    • Nia

Don’t worry Lynn, Alan has already said that he will not marginalize Bill this next season. Take comfort in knowing that Anna and Stephen are the top actors of the show.

I believe that Alan read all the books and read between the lines, and saw the whole story for what it really is and that is the relationship/journey of Sookie and Bill.

Any other man/vamp/supe in her life, in the books, we can chalk up to her life experience.

As Sookie finally realized in the last book, Bill was the one she always truly loved.

    • trish

if you read the books im sure your opinion would change . things change bill changes . i thought the same thing then i read the books . my opinion has changed and now eric is who i am cheering for .

      • missyella

        Trish,

        I totally agree with you.

I have read all nine Books and the short stories in A Touch of Dead.

There is more to Eric than meets the eye.

Just have to see what happens in Charlaine’s 10th Book.

        • jaxx

Hi, Missyella, I agree. There is much more to Eric. The short stories were great, I especially liked Dracula Night.

Only 6 months unitl book 10, although it feels like 6 years to wait. lol. Hopefully, we will all get answers in that book and some clarity as well.

          • missyella

            Hi Jaxx,

Remember the scene when Eris is dancing with Sookie and he says “some night, there’s going to be nothing else but you and me” and she has to go and have a very cold drink, he had stirred her feelings so much……

You will visit London I am sure.

I watched season 2 and Eric is the one who got my full attention so I bought season 1 as well. I read all of the Charlaine Harris’s books and Eric’s presence is getting deeper each time. Sookie and Eric relationship is breath taking. I don’t agree with “The writers of the TV show” if they had read the book they would discover that Eric is the one protecting and helping Sookie while she looks for her (ex to be) boyfriend Bill.
Eric keep an eye on her the entire time, they even get close to have a “hot night” so please READ THE book. If Eric does not establish the beginning of the strong relationship with Sookie then you will be loosing your audience.
One more thing season 2 orgy theme was boring and lame (yeah, yeah, yeah Mariane and her followers – naked and making out – all the time) – not that interesting after a while (oh you wanted to shock people – we are HBO we want to shock – well you bored them a little). Maybe if you try to get more cool stuffs regarding the “supreme” that would be interesting. I know you don’t want to follow the book but Hey Sookie, Eric and Bill are the main characters of the books so try to include them in your show and everyone will be happy.

    • jaxx

Sunshine, Eric and Sookie’s day will come. Just be patient. It will come.

  • Angela

I have to admit to rootng for Bill and Sookie. I loved how they were protrayed on screen, because you got the impression that it was almost love at first sight. However since reading the books i now look at the TV show in a whole different light and wonder when exactly Bill realised he loved Sookie. When they got together it was very intense and compelling, however i don’t want to watch them become a boring couple and fight over the remote. As they say the thrill is in the chase, and Eric is perfect to upset the apple cart. I am looking forward to an “on again off again, we’re were on a break type relationship”. I think it will be great fun to see the characters split, date other people, get insanely jealous, get back together, split up again etc etc. As much as i love Bill i think there needs to be competition for Sookies affection and Eric is the man for the job….for now.

The only gripe i have with the books is that there are a huge number of characters, i hope AB doesn’t use them all and lets us focus one the ones we really love. Saying that i hated the Jason and Amy part in the show, but thats what the fast forward button is for.

  • http://crestviewcable.com lani

Sookie and Jason are part “Fairy??!” Now that’s something I wouldn’t have expected?? Chuckle,Chuckle….So, anywho…lots debating going on over “THE BOOK!!” and “The SHOW!!” 0-0-0-0…scary…Oh,well..I didn’t read the books (not a book readin, kinda gal.)They are probably Great, though!! No, I watched the show first …Loved it..bought it..wanting more, of it…still waiting for season 2!! Yeah, love that vampire Bill…but, that’s not the ONLY reason I watch it!! (I admit,it is a big part of why I do!)It’s all good though, folks…Books..shows..Sweet!!!!!!!!

    • Antonio

Not “fairy” like Tinkerbell or Cinderella’s “godmother”. Fairy in a sense of more Changeling. Someone here gave a cursory explanation on that. It’s obvious after season 2 finale and that episode where She and Bill face-off against Maryann That she is something more than human.
Maryann:What Are You? You can tell me
      Sookie:I’m a Human
Maryann:No you’re Not If You were I would have taken you over by now
      C’mon You can tell me
      Sookie: None of Your Buissness
      Maryann:What Are You?
Sookie: I’m a waitress What the **** are You?
Plus when Maryann came at Sookie she pushed her away with her hand in her face and this white light came out from her hand and mildly burned Maryann.
So Sookie might have more “powers” than she knows about.
as For Jason to be part “fairy” He was just as easy for Maryann to take over So I dont think that fooling Him requires an act of sub-average intelligence.

  • jaxx

I’ve read all the comments twice and the spoilers numerous times.

Even though I am a huge Eric fan, I also do not like to see such a huge division. Everyone disagrees at some point. We all have our favorites. What I see in Eric, someone else sees in Bill.

I know the show and the books are similar but different. I do enjoy the show. I, personally, think Season 1 was better than Season 2. I think that is due to AB following the book in S1 more than S2. I like the addition of characters (Jess if a favorite and I like Lafayette alive). I undertand that a tv series needs more dimension and you cannot tell a story solely on Sookie’s version. That’s only in books, TV needs more depth.

The problem I have is the change in personalities of Eric and Bill. When you read 9 books, you seem to form certain ideas of the characters and know them. I felt in 9 books, I knew Sookie, Eric, Bill, Sam, Tara, etc. Now comes the show. Season 1 Bill was right on the money for me. So was Eric. Then comes Season 2. Everything changed. Personalities were altered. I’m having a hard time with this. It’s not that I’m insensitive to Bill, and I know we haven’t gotten there in the show yet, but when I thought CH was going to kill Bill off in DAG, I actually felt bad about it. While in both venues, Bill actually does love Sookie, just in my opinion, I think Eric is the better match for Sookie in both the books and the show, BUT I am willing to see where S3 will take us. I like a lot of the spoilers already. AB is getting into a certain depth of plot and character that was not expressed in the books but that is ok. I think AB is just building us up for Eric. We saw the interest in S1. Could have been a little more interest in S2 but there was enough in different ways through dream sequences. Hoping S3 will bring E/S even closer since Bill is away from Sookie. Hoping AB will let everyone in on the “Big Reveal” of the books. Something has to happen here. If not this revelation, then something. He’s smart enough to know you can’t keep B/S together forever without controversy. He doesn’t want to bore his viewers to death with the B/S show forever. There will be others, Alcide, Eric, Quinn, even Calvin Norris and Hot Shot people. Book 3 really opened up this world for me and I’m hoping that S3 will do the same.

  • JANE

EVEN THOUGH I’M A BILLSBABE, I ADORE ERIC AS WELL. AS LONG AS THEY ARE BOTH THERE, WITH SOOKIE, AND THE REST OF THE GREAT CHARACTERS, I AM HAPPY. THEY ARE ALL SUCH FUN TO WATCH, AND IT SURE DOESN’T HURT THAT ERIC AND BILL ARE SOOOO EASY ON THE EYES !

    • Nia

I agree with you completely Jane!!!!!!

  • TG

    Sinna, Lindsay, TP,
I think youre right people who read the books just want to see the development of the Eric character. It is clearly reflected by there dialogue in the book. I have been caught laughing out loud in airports from it. Bill never embraces who he is he is a little more tortured in the series than he is in the books. Does anybody remember when Eric when replaced her driveway even though his pride was hurt when she saves his butt in the convenience store it was kind of sweet with almost a tyical romantic comedy feel to it. They didn’t get together but they kept the tension going. How about when she got staked and he was carrying her up the stairs in the gay vampire mansion and she screams water everywhere nor a drop to drink Eric was howling and she was loaded on pain killerssaying he so gets me. Eric is always there.

  • a cake

These spoilers sound very promising! I’m glad they’re taking a different approach with the series and not investing too much in the possible Eric/Sookie romance and they seem to recognise this very vocal minority for what it is. True Blood the series is sooooo much more than just these two characters.

  • Nia

Just also wanted to say to AdoreBill,
Thank you for continuing to give us wonderful articles and spoilers. It helps giving us something to think about and look forward to during the long slow months ahead!

  • http://truebloodnet.com Ollie Chong aka AdoreBill

    Hi Tina,

I hear that you are upset but we still do not know exactly how everything is going to play out so to be angry at something that hasn’t transpired is just not worth expending the energy for.

Also the statement, “let’s see how you’d feel if Ball suddenly turned on Bill. I’m sure the platitudes about “trusting his vision” and respecting what he is doing would stick in your throats then,” is incorrect for if Alan did do something to the Bill character I would still continue to watch the show and enjoy it. I do not watch the show to see what happens to see one particular character but for the overall themes that are explored and the escapism that it provides.

Also there are many fans who have never read the books, so to many the books discussions would not be relevant to them. As I said before we still do not know exactly how everything is going to play out so let us just enjoy the escapism that it provides.

    • Lizzie

Thank you AdoreBill for sticking by True Blood. Even though I am a Bill person and love the B/S storyline, True Blood comes first. Eric is a wonderful character and the actor who portrays him does it very well. Didn’t AB say recently that Eric is to become a more central character from S3? That means he will have a substantial part to play, so what is the problem? Sam, Tara, Arlene/Terry and Jessica will also have major story lines. It is an ensemble show and there will be multiple story lines. This is not the Sookie Stackhouse Mystery Series, as completely seen by her eyes.
If CH has/had a problem in the way the story is going, she is not showing it! In fact, from what I have read, she is embracing AB’s take on the show and I think she is most impressed with the B/S storyline and I have read in an interview that she is going to take his character further in the book series as he has a story to tell.Who knows! It is a matter of conjecture as to what was the main love story line in the book. Sookie has stated that she loves Bill and Bill has stated that he loves Sookie and has placed himself in danger for her. To my knowledge, Eric has never said he loved Sookie and vice versa. So, as already stated, it is a matter of conjecture.

AB has bought the rights for the show. He has always been up front with his intentions for the show. He was intrigued by the Bill character on how he wanted to be a moral man and his love with another misfit in society. He has always been up front about their love story and it’s many ups and downs. He has always stated that he bases the show on the books but wants to put his own slant on the show and for the show to find it’s own path. He wants to explore the other characters! It is an ensemble show and that is what we are watching – not the Bill and Sookie show or the Eric or Eric and Sookie show. AB is a brilliant man so let us enjoy what he is bringing to us! As AB once said – “for the bookies- more power to you as you have the books as well as the show”!

Please enjoy the show! You will be getting a more substantial Eric – be happy with that!!!
      Team True Blood!

  • Tina

“While some say that Eric and Sookie are the core love story of the books others would state Bill and Sookie are the core of the love story.”

The fact that Charlaine Harris even considered killing Bill off in the last book is a pretty definitive statement on her behalf about where she thinks he fits into Sookie’s love life at this point.

  • http://truebloodnet.com Ollie Chong aka AdoreBill

Hi everyone! I would like to state some things and please do not take my comment too harshly. First of all Alan Ball had NO impact on the ending of Book 9! This was something between Charlaine and her publishers where Charlaine sends in her manuscript and receives feedback from them and it is a back and forth process until the final manuscript is sent to print.

Secondly, I actual find it an little disturbing and insulted to hear people state that True Blood will lose viewers and will be cancelled because there will be not enough Eric. First this is NOT the Eric Northman show but True Blood. Many people watch the show for the drama, intrigue and mystery with the various characters, not just for Eric only for he is not the only actor on the show. Alan has stated from the beginning to stay true to the “spirit” of the books but it will not be a direct re-enactment. Alan is developing various themes to play out and explore so let him continue doing the fabulous job he has done up to now.

Thirdly, the comment that Eric and Sookie “IS the love story of the books. No matter what is going on with Sookie or who she is with, Eric is *always* there.” That may or may not be true in the books BUT this is the show True Blood. Everyone is stating what should happen when the storyline has not been written yet. This is a different medium and Alan has the creative rights to the show.

In reference to the point from the books, Eric and Sookie did NOT begin a relationship at the end of book 1 but he started to show an interest in Sookie. Therefore Raelle is correct in her statement.

Please remember everybody, the show does NOT revolve around one particular character. All the actors see the success of the show as a team effort so if they see it that way and respect the show for playing out so many themes with the various characters why can’t we the fans see it as a team effort as well.

Seriously, if the show was just about Sookie or Bill or Eric it would be VERY BORING and would not last a season. Alan, the writers and all the actors have created this marvelous and wonderful world to escape to each week so please do not divide into separate camps. Let’s us just sit back and relax and leave it up to Alan and his team of writers to keep on developing this wonderful show the keeps on winning awards and bringing on more fans turned to True Blood.

    Thank you :)

  • Nen

Just give me more Eric, he’s the only reason I keep bothering with this show and anna’s annoying sookie

  • ebonyeyez1

I think it’s surprising how the writers of the show, keeps stating how the relationship between Eric and Sookie takes place way down the line in CH’s books. I want to know which ones did they read or if they ever did? The first book alone, Eric expressed interest in Sookie and even in the ending of Dead Until Dark, Eric sent a very sexual looking flower to Sookie, and was flying outside of her hospital window. That was in the first book! I already resigned myself to the fact, AB’s and his writers are not only doing their own thing and snubbing the readers of CH’s work, but he is basically creating his own Alternate Universe (fan fic lingo) versus following CH’s storyline. It blows, but I think in time he will slowly start losing viewers. Then TB will be canceled, then possibly when that happens CH will finally be able to write the series the way she wants to. Like when she was planning to kill of Bill in book 9.

  • Jenn

Humm….I think that if HBO wants to continue with the success of True Blood, they will need to capitalize on Alex’s popularity. We just want to see him get it on – get to know him even more.
He doesn’t have to be with Sookie per say – he could be with another character…..atleast to keep us tided over until things do occur.

    Please?

    Jenn

    • http://www.twitter.com/haxxai haxxai

To put it simply I don’t think Eric needs to be reduced to a mere love interest or sex object to be interesting. That would be a huge insult to both Alexander Skarsgård and his acting ability.

  • Chupi

Hum… the biker gang has me intrigued…
I also wonder how Alcide will fit in all this… I’d love to know how much they’ve altered the character; I so wished you’d asked!!!

  • Sinna

“Argh! Again, Raelle ticks me off. Yes, the E/S stuff happened later in the books, but a HUGE amount of their foundation happened in the beginning. The Eric fans I know and chat with don’t want to see this huge romantic thing or E/S going at it just yet, they simply want to see their relationship build the way it did in the books.

They’ve accelerated B/S so much in the show, and taken so much away from Eric. The one litle step forward we got with Eric/Sookie (the dreams) was taken away an episode later when they made it all about the blood. ”

    I completely agree!

“For the love of Pete, give the man something substantial to do!” Yes!!

I do think his chest is pruurty ^^

  • Lindsay

Argh!

And they think that telling us Eric will be half-naked is going to make us happy? Well, for those that are already only watching for Eric, then yeah that does make them happy, but for those that still have some hope regarding that character and his relationship with Sooks, heck no that doesn’t make us happy. That’s doing exactly what Raelle said… “not just throwing him up whenever somebody wants to see his bare chest” They don’t want to develop his and Sooks’ relationship, but want to sate the fans, so they’ll peel some of his clothes off.

For the love of Pete, give the man something substantial to do!

The only other thing that’s irking me is the powers they’re giving Sookie. I loved that she was normal in the books, save for the telepathy. I really don’t like how they’re making her so “other” in the show. I’ll reserve judgement on this until I see where they’re going with it, but the whole thing makes me uneasy.

    • TP

ICAM, Sinna. It sounds like Raelle needs to re-read the books b/c Eric/Sookie’s relationship starts at the end of Book 1 and only continues to grow. That IS the love story of the books. No matter what is going on with Sookie or who she is with, Eric is *always* there.

And BIG attention to Alan Ball and the writers. Most fans do not want only naked Eric. While that is great, we want Eric developed liked Charlaine Harris wrote him. Please understand that!

      • Tina

“Most fans do not want only naked Eric. While that is great, we want Eric developed liked Charlaine Harris wrote him.”

        Exactly!

As a book fan and an Eric fan I am sick of the accusation – being levelled from Alan Ball down – that Eric’s appeal starts and ends with eye candy.

It’s bloody insulting having Ball make a big deal at Paley about how we’ll see him without most of his clothes in E01 as if he’s doing us some great favour.

Eric and Sookie are the core love story of the books – their story arc has built over 9 books and is continuing, he has always been there no matter who else she is with. If the show isn’t going to head in that direction, at the VERY least just write Eric with a sense of humour and some charm. Keep the essence of the character.

(BOOK SPOILER)The torture chamber/Lafayette stuff from S2 still sticks in my craw so badly. It just made him seem SO evil and unredeemable. I wonder how Bill fans would feel if Ball wrote Bill’s trunk scene and gave him none of the excuses he had for it in the books? Just made Bill a lying, raping pig for the hell of it. I’m sure they’d be just as unhappy about that as we are.

While some say that Eric and Sookie are the core love story of the books others would state Bill and Sookie are the core of the love story. However, this is not a debate or a discussion about the books but the show. As I stated previously in this post, all the actors see the success of the show as a team effort so if they see it that way and respect the show for playing out so many themes with the various characters why can’t we the fans see it as a team effort as well.

Thank you for letting me express myself. :)

With respect, while everything is peachy as far as your preferred character is concerned, it’s very easy to lecture everyone else about keeping books and show separate, and “trusting” Alan Ball.

As I said above, let’s see how you’d feel if Ball suddenly turned on Bill. I’m sure the platitudes about “trusting his vision” and respecting what he is doing would stick in your throats then.

We are entitled to be angry and disappointed at seeing such a major character and plot line being screwed with like it has been.

As far as “this is not the books” – no it is not. But whether Bill fans like it or not, the show is based on these books and their characters – so discussion of the books is ENTIRELY relevant which is why you continue to see it everywhere this show is discussed.

It is always a shock and a shame to see so much negativity and hostility over a wonderful show like True Blood just because it does not follow your exact vision of the books.

It has been stated from the very beginning that this is based on the books but will never be the same.

First of all in the first 2 books the story is about Bill and Sookie developing their relationship (as has been in the show, except Bill is a more desparately loving and warm character, with a dark side). All else is secondary, yes, even Eric. Of course he starts showing an interest in her but it does not come to anything even somewhat sexual until the 3rd book (Eric org*sming on his own seems pretty one sided to me).

Everyone always exhibits anger at Eric being portrayed as he is in the show, saying that in the book he was always up front with Sookie. Well reread book 2, Eric still tricks Sookie into sucking his blood! He is selfish, bossy, deceitful and yes, sexy, and funny. I love his character in the show and the books. This is what he is.

Bill, as we have seen also in the books as well as the show, is dark, angry, decietful and sexy, loving, and aspiring to be more than vampire. This is also what he is. Actually the show has shown more of Bills dark side than the Charlaine ever did in her books.

As to season 3, the show seems to be following the books in that Bill and Sookie will be apart and Eric will play a bigger role. I am a big fan of both Eric and Bill, but Bill is my personal favorite. I will not hate Eric at all when the tables turn. Hardly! I am a true fan of the show, ALL the characters and Alan Balls vision and look forward to whatever he throws our way.

In response to those that will watch the show only if their favorite is always on screen, well that would be boring to me and to everyone else (just as some have claimed with Bill). Had the show started out with Eric and Sookie, by now everyone would say enough, boring, lets move on. Alan Ball is doing just that so give us all a break and just try to enjoy this wonderful show and be grateful to Alan and HBO for taking on this project, for without them there would be no True Blood and my life for one would be less exciting.

            Team True Blood!!!!!!!

Spoken like a True Fan, Adore B! I agree Its a shame that there seems to be Such dissention in the ranks here! I,Personally was Very disappointed in How David Chase chose to bring the Sopranos to a close after 7 years! I thought that the show deserved better! Was I angry? Yes Did I turn my back on the Show? HBO? Destroy All My Sopranos dvds? NO!!
Just learned to Accept the show for what it Was!
There were a Lot of people who were upset with HBO Over the course and common way The show depicted italian american life!
First This IS Just a TV Show! If You dont like it dont watch!
Hit the channel button on your remote and watch something else!
Its That Simple! Or better Yet turn the TV Off and go for a walk or something. Secondly, No 1 could Ever do “justice” to a book for Everyone who may appreciate it! I recall that Harry Potter fans were none too pleased when THEY thought that the films were “watering down” Their beloved characters! Lord of the Rings,Narnia Perhaps even The Lovely Bones~~Which looks Good But Sad (Like Peter Jackson) Will NOT please EVERYONE who Read It! A Book is just that a Book! A Film Even a Film which is LOOSELY BASED on a Book Is Just a Re-Imagining of the story from the Directors point5 of View!
Do You think for 1 Moment that Everything that was mentioned in the Twilight Book was depicted in the Film??
Certainly NOT! Do You see people on Twilight websites getting angry and fighting each other over it? NO AT LEAST I Havent!!
Am I Still a bit angry over CBS’s Decision to nix Beauty and the Beast 19 YEARS Ago?? Yes But I got Over it!
I Myself thought that the Book New Moon by S.Meyer was Not 1 of my faves I thought that Book 1 was very good and i was a bit disappointed in this 1 as the protagonist loses herself in “mad grief” over Edward’s departure! I kept thinking Grow Up Bella!! Life Goes On Gal! Nixing yourself is NOT gonna bring Him Back to You!!
Anyway because of this, I thought that beacuse the Book wasnt That good~~~Eclipse is MUCH better I think~~~
That Any Film of it might Tank! I decided to give it a chance!
I saw the trailer Many times Now and I have to admit it looks Damn Cool! So Relax give This Show a Chance! Alan Ball Knows What He is doing Just relax and allow him to take you away to Bon Temps Even if its just for an hour!!

            Here we go again!!

Thanks for the spoilers…any and all are appreciated.
I have truly enjoyed True Blood thus far, EVERY character is doing an amazing job….and yes, I am a die hard Eric/Sookie fan, but I enjoyed Bill/Sookie as well for the most part. A bit too mushy at times for my taste, but hey…some seem to like it. I was one of those screaming “Give me more Eric” until someone on here (thanks Nia) reminded me, and I had to agree, that though we get some flirtations between Eric/Sookie in the first 2 books, it is not until the 3rd book that ANY sort of relationship between them even gets hinted at. We don’t get a relationship til the 4th book, from there we get PLENTY of Eric (if Alan stays “true” to the storyline as he said he would). I love watching the show and hopefully Erics’ character will have the chance to be more like the books….tricky at times, funny, loyal, sexy, and yes, truly able to love a human. I love his ego trip in the books…part of his charm :) And I will get my Eric/Sookie storyline that keeps me hooked on the books!

So, I’ll be patient and just enjoy everything AB is giving us, as I have thus far. Good things come to those who wait!!!

Don’t mean to wish my life away, but, I am so ready for June 14, 2010!!

      Lindsay,

I think if you read all of the nine Books, you would know that Sookie and Jason are part Fairy.

That is where her power comes from, there is more to her apart from telepathy.

I will continue to watc the show regardless of how Alan ball takes it, because the cast are good, the storylines are good and it’s on HBO for us ‘Adults’

Enough of the Books versus the show battles arguments, they are totally different entities, can we just not enjoy them both?????
