Video: Skarsgård on Eric in Season 5 of True Blood

The Actor Contemplates How Eric Should Be:

Skarsgård (Eric on True Blood) in Straw DogsMTV recently caught up with True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman) at the screening for his latest film, Straw Dogs.  Skarsgård was looking dapper as always, while sporting a mini-bouffant, which suits him quite well! He was asked how he wants to see his character during Season 5, whether he’d like to see Eric still heartbroken due to Sookie breaking up with him, or not.  He replies that he doesn’t really know… he does, however, think that just because Eric is “back”, it doesn’t mean he’s the same old Eric:

“Old Eric is back, but it’s not like the old Eric, because he still remembers the love with Sookie, and those moments — and that changed him.”

We learn that Alan Ball and the writers are already hard at work writing the scripts for Season 5 (squee!), and we already knew from Janina Gavankar here that filming begins in November (double squee!), so hopefully waiting will suck less this time around, what with all this excitement, and sure-to-come news and spoilers!

Check out the video, Truebies, and tell us how you’d like to see Eric next season!

I like to see Eric being strong and in control like when he ripped the heart out of Marnie’s follower/protector. (HA) and when he beheaded the 3 guards Nan had with her. I like seeing Eric in control, and showing that Viking warrior spirit. I also liked seeing him be romantic as well. I would like to see him have a strong love interest (Someone like Pam) that could hold her own with him and challenge him a bit. I think it would be interesting.

  • Hi Jaxx, I have to admit I agree with you.  I did love the amnesia Eric, and would love to see moments when they hook up again, because there is chemistry there,  But I do so love the viking Eric and the more calculating side to him. I love the whole attitude that he gives off.  But I still believe that she would have more fun if she kept Eric for awhile. JMHO We will have to wait to see what will happen. Maybe a certian supe will show up next season and sweep her off her feet. Maybe yet another guy will claim the prize.

I agree Sheila.  Throw everyone in the mix.  I hope something happens with Alcide next season, but I think Sookie will feel too guilty about killing Debbie Pelt to start a relationship with him.  Maybe Quinn will be introduced, although I have to admit he wasn’t my favorite character in the books, hopefully the TV version of Quinn will be more likeable.  Don’t forget even in the books, Eric and Sookie really didn’t totally hook up until about the 8th book as she did explore Quinn and Alcide a little.  Eric did romantically pursue her though so I’m hoping that will still happen in TB too.  I just can’t see Eric or  Bill giving up on her that quickly.  Now throw jealous Pam in the mix and season 5 should be a very interesting season.

      • Hey Jaxx,
I agree Quinn wasn’t my favorite either.  But seeing as how AB has flipped a few things around, I can see that he’ll probally flip a few others too.  I don’t think that the boys will give up on her that easy.  Especially now that Eric has had some time with Sookie, I think he will be like a dog with a bone in his own Eric kinda way.  I too, think Pam will be a real problem in Season 5,

It’s funny, while I know he’s talking about the Eric character being guarded and letting someone in, I also get the feeling he’s talking about himself as well.  Hmmm, jimo though.

I have to say, I miss the “old Eric”.  It was fun for Eric to have amnesia for a while but I couldn’t wait for the spell to be broken.  But he’s right, once he’s fallen for Sookie, things will never quite be the same again.  I want Eric to be just as strong as he ever was with just a touch of softness around him where Sookie is concerned.  I almost liked it better when he kept it to himself.  I didn’t care for the scenes where Eric and Bill were pining over Sookie or were willing to meet the true death for her.  To some it may seem romantic on both their parts, but it just came across as begging to me. Neither Eric nor Bill would have been this weak.  Give me back my viking warrior vampire!!!
