Zoic Studios Awarded for Visuals

March 7, 2010 by

While there’s often a lot of reporting on the cast members and their lives outside of the True Blood world, we sometimes forget about awesome folks behind the scenes who make Bon Temps a visual reality.

Zoic Studios creates all the bloody goodness on True Blood; however, they’re also responsible for visual effects on multiple TV shows, ads, video games, and films. Most recently you can see their work on Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, and the film 2012.  And they were recently recognized for their efforts.

Zoic Studios earned three Visual Effects Society Awards on February 28th:

Outstanding Created Environment in a Broadcast Program or Commercial: V – Pilot

Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program: CSI Crime Scene Investigation – Ep. 1001

Outstanding Compositing in a Broadcast Program or Commercial: CSI Crime Scene Investigation – Ep. 1001

Andrew Orloff, Executive Creative Director at Zoic Studios commented on his studios wins:

Zoic Studios is extremely proud to have achieved this level recognition from the VES. It’s been a fantastic year for us and it is great to be recognized for the creative work we’ve all put into the broadcast medium. All the artists from Zoic this year, winners and nominees alike should be proud of their fantastic efforts in continuing to raise the bar in television visual effects.

While none of these awards were for work on True Blood specifically, it’s nice to know an award-winning studio is behind the gore. Zoic has a gorgeous clip show on their site highlighting some truly stunning True Blood visuals, including Bill‘s burst into flames and Long Shadow‘s gory death.  Check it out here: Zoic Studios: Visual Evolution.

VES honors those who create outstanding visual effects in 20+ categories including film, animation, TV, commercials, and video games.
