About True Blood: The Complete Series
Thanks to a Japanese scientist’s invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures “coming out of the coffin.” In the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, local waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is open-minded about the integration of vampires – particularly when it comes to Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173-year old living up the road. But at the service of Bill’s less virtuous vampire associates, Sookie is drawn into a series of catastrophes that will put their love to the test.

About True Blood: The Complete Seventh Season
This year, a season-opening battle between raging Hep-Vamps and their Bon Temps prey sets the stage for a season-long series of hair-raising denouements for Sookie, Bill, Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), Jason (Ryan Kwanten), Sam (Sam Trammell), Alcide (Joe Manganiello), Tara (Rutina Wesley) and their human/vampire allies and adversaries. As we’ll see, some of True Blood’s most beloved figures will meet cruel fates, while others will cheat death (true and otherwise) to forge happily-ever-after relationships that will leave fans surprised and, ultimately, satisfied. What will happen to your favorite True Blood character?

Alexander Skarsgard: “I Think How He Ends Fits With How He’s Lived”

Alexander Skarsgard Discusses the End of HBO’s True Blood:

Pam and Eric in HBOs True Blood finale Episode 10 entitled Thank YouConsidering how much blood and gore and unhappiness can occur during your average True Blood episode, the finale turned out to be surprising upbeat – in between the aforementioned blood and gore! But, arguably the happiest – and funniest – ending of all went to the crew at Fangtasia. Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and his progeny, Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten), ended up taking over Mr. Gus’s (Will Yun Lee) company and making their fortune selling New Blood.

But what did Alexander think of his character’s story?

I think how he ends fits with how he’s lived. He’s always had a clear mission and a clear agenda on his mind.

But while he may be happy with how Eric’s story ended, it didn’t mean he was happy with the show ending. With the conclusion of the final scene, Alexander had this to say:

It was unbelievably emotional. That show has been such a huge part of my life. I’ve met some really good friends on that set, and there is no doubt that they will remain close friends forever… The last scene I filmed, I was just trying to take it all in and I started crying.

So it wasn’t just Kristin Bauer van Straten who was crying about the demise of the show then.

VIDEO: True Blood’s Riley Smith Discusses Being the Latecomer

Joining HBO’s True Blood Was Like Joining a Family:

Arlene Fowler (Carrie Preston) and Keith (Riley Smith) star in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 7 (entitled 'May Be the Last Time')For newcomer, Riley Smith, joining the cast of HBO’s True Blood was daunting, but the cast welcomed him with open arms – especially Anna Paquin (who plays main character Sookie Stackhouse)!

Riley joined the cast of True Blood for the final season as vampire Keith, a member of James’s (Nathan Parsons) band seen in Episode 1 (entitled Jesus Gonna Be Here) of Season 7. He falls for waitress Arlene Fowler (Carrie Preston) after he saves her life by giving her his blood in order to heal her. Their relationship is hindered right from the start though considering Arlene has never been a vampire advocate as well as the fact she is a Hep-V carrier. In the True Blood finale (Episode 10, entitled Thank You), we see Keith and Arlene seem to have their happily ever after.

In the video interview below, Riley discusses the True Blood family, their fans and plenty more with AfterBuzz TV hosts Kristin Carole and Scott Moore. Riley also discusses his character’s relationship with waitress Arlene and how there possibly wasn’t enough time left to really flesh out their love story. He was also unaware of just how much of a fan favorite Arlene is to the truebies.

Kristin Bauer van Straten Discusses Pam & Eric’s Happy Ending

Kristin Talks About Pam and Eric’s Ending in the HBO True Blood Finale:

Kristin Bauer van Straten stars as vampire Pam in the HBO True Blood finale Episode 10 (entitled 'Thank You')It seems for a show like HBO’s True Blood, there was much to cry about with Season 7. Besides the fact this would be the vampire show’s final season ever, many of the characters either lost their lives or had to deal with the loss of those loved ones.

But there was one story line that got a truly happy ending; that of vampires Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and her maker, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard). For Kristin, though, she had no idea where her character might end up by the end of Episode 10 (entitled Thank You):

It was a total surprise to me. I had no idea, and I tried to not have expectations, because that’s how you keep your sanity as an actress. I was just happy to be still on the show. You can never tell with an HBO show where it’s gonna go. To get to spend all that time with Alexander, have Eric and Pam together, and then to have so many varied emotions to play throughout the whole season? We’ve had the highest highs we’ve had in any year, and the lowest of lows we’ve had in any year. For an actress, it was a dream.

With Eric and Pam now running a giant corporation and selling their stolen New Blood product, what did Kristin think the moral to their story was?

The main thing that I felt was that Pam and Eric really do have an unconditional love that really does endure. In my mind, it was an immortal connection. That was what I really began playing from fairly early on, but it didn’t really sink in until year three when we saw Pam’s vulnerable side and when Eric was possibly dying. Because Alex and I got along, it really helped, and this last year, it was just really kind of a true love story that transcended a romantic relationship even.

Another person within her story arc also got a happy ending, that of Ginger (Tara Buck). Many fans have wondered how Pam might have reacted to this. Kristin had this to say:

There was a draft where she did have a reaction. He walks back into the office, and instead of not finding Pam, Pam said, “Did you just have sex with her?” I think Pam said something like, “I always thought it would’ve been louder.” [Laughs] Pam was a little surprised that there wasn’t the Ginger scream, which of course was the writers’ joke, that for once she didn’t scream. It was too much.

Deborah Ann Woll Thought Jessica Would End Up With Jason

The True Blood Finale Surprised Deborah Ann Woll:

Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) and Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack) get married in HBO's True Blood Season 7 finale Episode 10 (entitled 'Thank You')For Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll), HBO’s True Blood ended with a wedding, but not to the person Deborah thought Jessica would be marrying. In Episode 10 (entitled Thank You) we find Jessica having her happily ever after with Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack), the man she glamoured a couple of seasons back after their relationship soured. But, according to Deborah, she thought the story would end a little differently:

If I’m really honest, I thought she’d end up with Jason [Ryan Kwanten]. It seemed the way it was going, and I also was so fond of that storyline and so fond of Ryan. This took me a little by surprise. I’d been trotting down one path, and I had to make a change… [The writers] had mentioned to me they were planning on bringing [Hoyt] back before the season started, and there would be romantic ties. I assumed that it would be a triangle ending in a different way.

While the marriage to Hoyt was a spontaneous one in order to allow her maker, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) walk her down the aisle before he succumbed to Hep-V, Deborah Ann Woll had this to say about Jessica’s growth over seven seasons:

She was a girl who lived mostly on impulse when she was younger and let her feelings have her do whatever she needed to do in the moment. She had very little control. Certainly now, I think, she thinks before she leaps, and she understands when something is a vampire impulse that might not work in the modern world. That’s why this first episode was so interesting for her. It put her up against the one thing she couldn’t resist. In the end, I wanted her to be victorious.

Jessica managed to make it to the True Blood finale, but was Deborah ever concerned she might be killed off?

You worry a lot because it would be very heart-wrenching to many characters if Jessica died. Imagine the storyline for Bill if Jessica died. They could kill me off and have a field day with the results of that. I was always very nervous because it seems like such an emotionally powerful storyline.

Charlaine Harris Weighs in on the True Blood Finale Debate

Sookie Stackhouse Creator Defends HBO’s Adaptation:

Charlaine HarrisFor author Charlaine Harris, causing an uproar within an established fan base is something she knows all about. After many years and just as many books, she recently concluded the popular vampire novels that HBO’s True Blood is based on. In the books, Sookie Stackhouse made a very similar choice at the end as well; no vampires for her, just a regular life. While Sookie ended up with Sam Merlotte in the book series, in the Season 7 finale, she chose someone who the audience didn’t even know. Sookie chose a normal life was the point showrunner Brian Buckner was trying to make. Many fans were not impressed with his decision.

But what did Charlaine Harris think?

You know, I really enjoyed [it], because to me it bears the mark of Alan Ball, even though I know there was a different showrunner the last year and a half. Because he gives you a glimpse of the future so often at the end of his runs, and in a way, Sookie ended up not with Sam, as she did in the books, but in the same place.

She also offered up her own version of how Sookie (Anna Paquin) might have met Mr. Sookie Stackhouse in the TV series:

He was someone she met after the show! A human. She had someone she could live a human life with, have human babies with, and stay in her home, which was what she wanted. He could be a shifter or a were, but my point is she didn’t end up with a vampire.

Overall, Charlaine Harris was happy with the way HBO and the writer’s had portrayed her series on TV, even though it was so vastly different to her own version of the Sookieverse.

Show Runner Brian Buckner Defends the True Blood Finale

HBO’s True Blood Wrapped up This Week with Season 7:

True Blood finale final shotIn the finale of HBO’s long running vampire series, True Blood, it turned out Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) only needed to chose herself. While both Team Eric and Team Bill fans alike were disappointed Sookie ended up with some random stranger, for show runner, Brian Buckner, there was never a doubt:

The deal was we wanted Bill to be correct when he said that Sookie can have a normal life. The twist, of course, being that Sookie chose to keep her power and specialness and persevere despite his belief that she couldn’t be OK without giving up her powers. Charlaine [Harris] took a lot of abuse for choosing Sam [Sam Trammell]. We felt like it was irrelevant who Sookie wound up with. What we wanted to know was that she was happy and living the life she wanted to lead. To introduce some other stranger in the last five minutes of the finale wouldn’t have made a lot of sense. So, we made a choice to say it’s “every man,” it doesn’t matter.

Besides Sookie’s story being concluded, Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) story also saw an ending – by way of the true death. Since the Season 7 finale, many people have been questioning whether this was the right decision to make on a show that has strongly drawn an allegory between vampires and the gay community. Brian addressed this matter with the following statement:

I’ve done some thinking about this one. What I will say to that is yes, True Blood is an allegory about otherness, but when you read a novel that is allegorical, it’s usually about one character. To maintain allegorical correctness across the board with 20 characters is sometimes impossible. You have to pick a center. So, for us in this story line, I think it’s obvious from the seven years that Sookie and Bill were not meant to be [in] true love forever. So now you’ve got to pick whose otherness you’re going to protect. I think the allegory to be protected was Sookie’s.

Then Brian had to justify the fact that for a series that’s staple was sex and violence, there was surprisingly no nudity in the season finale:

I know our show has made its living on sex and gore and violence, but without story that all takes on the feeling of a snuff film. The director, Scott Winant, put in better words than I could. He said I get what you’re doing here. If you’re going to go bigger and bolder than you’ve ever been, then where are you going to go. And so the more surprising ending here is this intimate, small, beautiful story of these people in a small town… To me, you want to know that these people are going to be OK.

True Blood Finale: Timothy Eulich is Sookie’s Mystery Man

Finally We Have Some Information About Mr. Sookie Stackhouse:

True Bloods Timothy Eulich Mr Sookie StackhouseWhile there were many moments to talk about and discuss in regards to HBO’s True Blood finale, probably the hottest question on everyone’s lips was; ‘Who was the bearded guy Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) ended up with?

For many it was more about the fact that Sookie didn’t choose Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) or Bill (Stephen Moyer), that she ended up with just some random stranger. But, for Brian Buckner, True Blood’s show runner, it was more about the fact that Sookie chose to be human and have a normal life rather than who she ended up with.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t still wonder, right?

It turns out, bearded Mr. Sookie Stackhouse was picked at random from the stunt doubles on set at the time. His name is Timothy Eulich and he was chosen because he had the best pair of arms there! Recently Vulture got to ask Timothy some questions about being Mr. Sookie Stackhouse:

I was laughing with my wife Sunday night about all the tweets from all the people freaking out about not getting to see Sookie’s husband’s face. It was fun!

However, Timothy hasn’t had a chance to watch all of Episode 10 (entitled Thank You) yet, even though he has worked on set throughout Season 7.

In the past, Timothy has been a stunt double for many True Blood characters including Michael McMillian (Steve Newlin), Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) and even Eric Northman. In fact, when you see Eric catching on flames at the end of Season 6, it was Timothy, in part, you were seeing:

I just did the fire. With everything that we did, we worked very closely with the visual effects team, so they wanted to get the real fire elements for that. I was in a full black suit on a black backdrop, with a huge fire burn, and they went and layered in Alex baking on the mountainside. But that was definitely Alex’s body. [Chuckles.] I didn’t take my clothes off for that!

Besides being a stunt double, you actually get a chance to see his face in Season 2! He was playing a character called Rich, who got saved by Sookie. So, in theory, perhaps Sookie ended up meeting up with Rich again and falling in love:

You know, I was thinking about that, and I don’t think it’s terribly far-fetched that it’s Rich! I don’t think the writers would necessarily think that [laughs] but I mean, Sookie did save Rich from being killed by Eric in that scene, so there was a little moment there and it’s possible it turned into something, years and years later. “Hey, remember that time at church when you saved my life? That was really awesome of you. We should go have a drink sometime.” Yeah, I think it would have been nice.

True Blood Quickie: True Blood Season 7 Finale Episode 10 “Thank You” Recap

I can’t believe this is it. I can’t believe this is my last ever True Blood recap! Here’s what went down in Episode 10 (entitled Thank You) of HBO’s True Blood Season 7:

  • Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) stars in HBO's True Blood finale Episode 10 (entitled 'Thank You')We start off pretty much where Episode 9 (entitled Love is to Die) ended; at Sookie’s (Anna Paquin). Her and Bill (Stephen Moyer) are having a chat about how Bill wants Sookie to have a life and how Sookie wants Bill to live. Then he drops a clanger on her: he not only wants to die, he wants Sookie to kill him! *starts wimpering* Turns out he has a reason for that. He figures if she uses her super fairy light ball once and for all, she will no longer be an attractant to all the supernaturals out there. Needless to say, Sookie is pissed…
  • Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) hatch a plan: release Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) and use that as a ploy to lure Mr. Gus (Will Yun Lee) down into the dungeon so they can kill him and his Yazuka security guards. This plan actually works and we can say RIP to Mr. Gus, the bad guy that wasn’t really such a bad guy, just an annoying one. Sarah is really on the loose too, but that’s okay because Pam has given her some vampire blood and can track her like a bloodhound. Once that happens, Sarah does the only thing she knows how; try and talk her way out of the situation. Sarah tries to convince Pam to turn her into a vampire – to which Pam refuses, but more on that later…
  • Oh, and the Yakuza on the way to Sookie’s house? Don’t worry about them because Eric totally has a handle on it! *cue Eric jigging away to J-Pop in the car*
  • Jessica and Hoyt get married in HBO's True Bloof finale Episode 10 (entitled 'Thank You')So Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) and Hoyt (Jim Parrack) turn up to talk to Bill, but the table is turned when Bill goes all parental on Jess and insists Hoyt makes an honest woman of her. To which Hoyt agrees and we have an epic vampire wedding organized at vamp speed so Bill can walk Jess down the aisle. *This is the first time I really start bawling*
  • Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer) is called in to officiate the wedding and Bill drops a bombshell on him: he is now the heir apparent to Bill’s estate. Andy doesn’t want it, but that’s okay because Bill wants Andy to rent it to Jess and Hoyt. For $1 dollar a month. Man, where can I get a landlord like that?!
  • Sookie has her own flashbacks in Episode 10. This time we get to see Sookie and Tara (Rutina Wesley) as kids. They’re all running in the rain and getting dried off by Gran (Lois Smith). Yes, Gran’s back! And she’s still giving out sound advice by telling Sookie that the only boundaries she has is the ones she sets upon herself.
  • Sookie goes looking to her brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten) for some advice as to what to do about the kill Bill situation. Turns out Jason is just as surprised as the rest of us that his advice might be useful. But Sookie reads Bridgette’s (Ashley Hinshaw) mind while she’s there and lets Jason know that she is totally okay about him and Bridgette hooking up. Of course, Jason had no idea because he equates not having sex with ‘she doesn’t like me‘.
  • Speaking of Jason, he and Hoyt work things out and he is Hoyt’s best man at his wedding.
  • So, we are at this vampire wedding and Sookie is suddenly able to hear Bill’s thoughts. WTH?! Is Bill turning human? Is that how his Hep-V works now?
  • Sookie is still having a hard time working out whether to kill Bill or not, so she goes to see Reverend Daniels (Gregg Daniel) about it. He has as much good advice to give as Gran did, so Sookie is starting to come to a realization…
  • Sookie sitting on Bills coffin in the HBO True Blood finale Episode 10 (entitled 'Thank You')…that the True Blood finale is going to be all about a wedding and then a funeral. Sookie meets Bill at the cemetery where is grave is open and ready for him. There is much talking going backwards and forwards between these two and I am howling at the TV right now because I am coming to realize Sookie is not going to kill Bill with her fairy light, she is going to stake him instead! At least Bill is okay with that, because I am so not okay with it, and I’m not even Team Bill! And there we have it, Sookie in a coffin filled to the brim with Bill gloop and I am rocking and crying and eating Gran’s pecan pie with my bare hands. Guess that ‘maybe Bill is turning into a human‘ idea is completely moot now.
  • Fast forward to a year later. Wait, what? I’m still grieving over here! But HBO has a show to wrap up and they don’t have time for that crap. It seems Eric and Pam are shooting an infomercial about their new product: New Blood. They have a great little story about how Sarah got away, all except for a few stray drops of her blood from which they were able to synthesize a cure. Nice lying there Northman 😉
  • Oh, wait, is that Charlaine Harris? Why, yes it is!
  • Now it’s three years later and Pam is looking suspiciously like Sarah Newlin as they float their product on the stock exchange.
  • Oh, look, it’s Fangtasia. Pam is in the dungeon letting vampires take their New Blood straight from the source. Yep, Sarah Newlin actually survived the True Blood finale! But she’s now the antidote whore Pam promised in Episode 9. We also get another cameo appearance from Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) here because Sarah is now officially crazy.
  • Next it’s Thanksgiving and some random guy is deep frying a turkey at Sookie’s house. Seems there is a big gathering going on. Oh look, there Jason and Bridgette and their three kids. And, wow, Sookie’s pregnant too! Wonder who the lucky guy is? Now they are all sitting down to dinner and there’s Sam (Sam Trammell) and Nicole (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) with their second child. Hoyt and Jess still look happy, and so do Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) and James (Nathan Parsons). In fact, everyone in Bon Temps does. But who the heck is Sookie with? Then she leans over and kisses a guy with a beard. AND WE DON’T EVEN GET TO SEE HIS FACE.
  • Oh, I get it, Sookie chooses to be human and that’s more important than which guy she ends up with. And I am crying all over again because Sookie is happy.

True Blood Finale: A Look Back on… The Music

Nathan Barr Discusses His Musical Choices:

True Blood composer Nathan BarrWhen you ask anyone what song they think of when they are asked about HBO’s True Blood, most people would answer Bad Things by Jace Everett. But there is someone else who is just as responsible for giving True Blood its musical groove: Nathan Barr. He is the TV show’s composer and is the one who makes the song choices for each episode. According to Nathan, creating an original music score for True Blood is easy because he is a fan first, composer second:

If I can react as a fan then it gives the music a chance to really be a part of the show in a way that’s going to be of the best benefit and please the audience.

And, being such a fan of the show, it was his idea to push for True Blood: The Musical. It is an idea that has stayed with him from the time he composed the song Take Me Home for the scene in Season 1 when Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) eats her Gran’s pecan pie after her death. While his idea may never come to fruition, he is still hopeful:

There are no guarantees at this point… It’s more about finding the essence of what the story is about and if you look at it from that point of view, it actually becomes quite simple because a musical is two hours.

But before he can even seriously push for a True Blood musical, there is still the question of the True Blood finale: who will live and who will die? Considering the fact Nathan hasn’t seen the episode yet, but he has composed the music for it, he has this final gem to add:

I haven’t even seen [it] yet… I know that the absolute last scene in the show is going to be really, really emotional.

True Blood Finale: A Look Back on… The Sex Scenes

What Would You Rate as the Best and Worst Sex Scenes in HBO’s True Blood?

Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) get intimate in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 (entitled 'Love is to Die')It’s hard to pick just a few stand out sex scenes in HBO’s True Blood – considering just how many have been dished up to us over the last seven years. But, after much research, here’s my top six list:

  1. BEST: Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) finally get it on atop Eric’s throne in Fangtasia. Yep, I really didn’t think this hook up in Season 7 would be as thoroughly entertaining as it turned out to be. I’m not sure if it was Ginger’s undeniable glee, or the fact that she is just so damn excited that she is over and done with in a matter of seconds or if it’s because it was very obviously a nod to the whole vampire fangirldom out there.
  2. WORST: Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and Lorena Krasiki (Mariana Klaveno) get bendy in Season 3. This one was just plain weird. And it made me want to throw up in my mouth just a little. Even just thinking about Bill twisting Lorena’s head all the way round as I am typing now is making me nauseous.
  3. BEST: Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) goes to visit Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) in her red riding outfit. Yeah, I’m pretty sure there was a spike in red riding hood capes in 2012 after Jessica wore hers in Season 5.
  4. WORST: Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) claws his way out of the grave to have sex with Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). I am still surprised Sookie didn’t need hospitalization after that romp. All that dirt, and in all the wrong places…
  5. BEST: Jason Stackhouse has a sex dream about Eric Northman – while he’s in church! Yep, I know after six months the effects of vampire blood on a human has probably worn off, but I’m glad to over look that for the fact that these two hooked up in Season 7.
  6. WORST: Bon Temps has an orgy. Thank you very much Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes) for coming to Bon Temps in Season 2 and making me see things that I cannot unsee. Although, on a flip side to this one, we did get a hilarious scene with Jason posing as ‘the god who came’…
