True Blood’s Anna Paquin on the AskMen.com List

Golden GlobesThe accolades for Anna Paquin keep coming in as AskMen.com posted their Top 99 Women for 2009 and Anna Paquin came in at #71. Over 10 million votes were cast by readers who were asked to rate the women based upon certain characteristics they would look for in a companion such as intelligence, humor, charisma, ambition, and as well as sex appeal and beauty. AskMen.com described the following qualities regarding her that placed her on the top 99 list:

“Even if it might not be Anna Paquin’s style to vamp it up, she still has enough beauty and intelligence to make her eminently attractive. There’s a vulnerability to her that only adds to her allure; at the same time, though, Anna Paquin has the emotional grounding that would make her an ideal companion.”

“Anna Paquin’s win of the 1993 Best Supporting Actress Oscar at age 11 is a rare and remarkable accomplishment. Equally impressive is the fact that Anna has continued to build an acting career since then without losing sight of her family — whose members are scattered between the South Pacific and the Canadian Prairies — or her education, as she is studying English at Columbia University.”

New Zealanders Still Talking About Anna Paquin’s Win For True Blood

gg2009annanew1It has been a week since Anna Paquin won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama in her portrayal of Sookie Stackhouse in Alan Ball’s successful HBO TV series “True Blood” and the papers in New Zealand continue to post information about her win and reactions. The papers claim that although Anna is back in the spotlight again with her award she has still remained humble and down-to-earth. The papers focused on her comments following the her win as an indication that although she is a big hollywood star she has not forgotten her roots and remained modest. Anna commented to the press about her win “I was the pale brunette from New Zealand, and I’m playing this Southern tanned blonde, essentially a Hooters waitress.” She went further to say that this award is “100 percent cooler” than her Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for The Piano at age 11. “I don’t even remember that, it was very blurry and crazy,” Paquin says. “This is quite blurry and crazy too, but at least I’m old enough to drink and stay out past 10pm.

True Blood – Escape Television With a Message

truebloodlogoAnna Paquina??s win this week at the Golden Glob order periactin, buy dapoxetine online.

e for Best Actress in a TV Drama was a crowning accomplishment not only for her but for bringing attention to a??True Blooda?? to the media. A show with so many varying layers of metaphors that it was a surprise to me that it didna??t win for Best TV Drama. However Anna Paquina??s performance was acknowledged for her capacity to relay in so many ways the complexities that exist in human relationships.

One of the most compelling aspect of this show is its ability to dwell into the intrinsic nature of the human need to feel a sense of belonging. Anna Paquina??s character Sookie Stackhouse lives a life of being the outsider whether it is self-imposed or forced upon by others in her town who refuse to accept her for who she is. Her natural abilities to read other peoplea??s mind has been a prison for her throughout her life barring her from having a normal existence. Although she had almost come to terms with living a life of keeping her distance from people and not developing close relationships with anyone does not mean that she doesna??t want to have them. Although she wishes to be normal and feel that she belongs, others come along and push her aside to remind her how different she is and perhaps unwelcome. The constant need to keep your guard up to avoid getting hurt creates an individual incapable of opening up which we can see in both Sookie and Billa??s existence.

This leads us to vampire Bill Compton who walks into the bar one day and changes Sookiea??s life casino online forever. Bill is a creature of the night, forever forced to live out his a??undeada?? life on the outskirt of society remaining distant to whom he comes into contact with. Until that night when he meets Sookie and finds another who too had a??given upa?? in ever living a normal life. Their mutual a??differencesa?? within themselves became kasino online the string that linked them to each other and with that found acceptance with one another and the joy of feeling that one feels wanted, needed and a sense of belonging.

The sense of belonging is one of the most nature and basic instincts in humans. Without it a person develops a wall around themselves and causes varying negative attributes. So here we have Sookie craving to belong and a vampire seeking acceptance for who he is. Both individuals who seemed disillusioned with their existence and the world around then and now allowing themselves to open up to possibilities.

Sookie and Billa??s encounter with each other and the discovery of a mutual connection emphasizes to all of us not to give up hope when life seems to have closed the door on us from everyone. The despair and the loneliness that ends up consuming us is not etched on stone never to be eradicated but a temporary barrier wall that needs to be taken down. In todaya??s society many feel disenfranchised by the world and live their lives as islands on their own, seeking refuge in their isolation to avoid disappointment and hurt. However, the show explores through its metaphors that regardless of how hopeless and separated we may feel from others that the natural instinct to feel a sense of belonging is strong. To realize that by allowing yourself to open up a little of onea??s self imposed prison that possibilities may be just around the corner waiting for you to encounter.

Therefore my admiration for the actors and for the show is its ability to touch on core human emotions in such subtle and entertaining ways without feeling someone is preaching to you. Sometimes blatant in-your-face tactics have the opposite reaction, however in this case, I believe that although it is presented in a fun, escape form of television it drives home a message to the audience that the human need for acceptance and a sense of belonging is not an impossibility even for people who seem a??losta?? to the world.

Therefore Anna Paquina??s win was an acknowledgment of her superb work, but at the same time the judges missed out on recognizing the show and Stephen Moyera??s performance as a masterpiece of entertainment. I truly hope that this year that a??True Blooda?? will receive an Emmy and be recognized for its contribution to the developed of thought-provoking and entertaining television. We can only wait and see.

True Blood’s Anna Paquin Golden Globe Associated Press Interview

annaapvideoTrue Blood’s Anna Paquin is interview by the Associated Press after winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama. Her interview begins a 2:21 where she describes the shock of her name being announced to the point that she was not even sure she heard right until she noticed everyone was looking at her. She did worry about the usual things when you go up on a stage, don’t trip, don’t fall down and I hope I didn’t forget anyone in my speech.

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer Clip at the HBO After Party

tbvid1Hollywood411.com was out on patrol at the various Golden Globe after party venues and in this particular video the interviewer caught up with Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and the rest of the cast from Alan Ball’s hit HBO TV series “True Blood”. It is a very short clip that starts at 57 seconds but Stephen Moyer makes such a funny comment that I had to include it in the news.

More True Blood Spoiler News for Season 2

15785_largeIt seems that everday little bits of information come out regarding what fans can expect to happen in season 2 of Alan Ball’s very successful HBO TV series “True Blood”. News has already been coming out from various sources giving us little teasers. It seems that Alan Ball has mention that season 2 will revolve around Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Sookie (Anna Paquin) travelling to Dallas to find a missing area sherriff. However, their biggest obstacles will be newly made vampire Jessica who will be a throrn in their relationship and as Alan Ball stated ”she’s part of their life now.” ”Bill made her; he’s responsible for her.” It seems they will have turbulent times together.

Bill and Sookie’s relationship will not be the only focus in season 2. The series will develop several storylines with the other various characters. Jason will become more invovled with Fellowship of the Sun as he tries to find meaning to his life. The mysterious Maryann’s identity will be revealed in this season and will lead the audience to wonder what more is out there. Perhaps the biggest question that people have on their mind is what happened to Lafayette and will he be in Season 2. Alan Ball provides a little teaser by saying ”I can’t tell you if Lafayette will be back,” but ”He did die in the books.” What does this cryptic message mean? It seems that Alan Ball will keep us guessing until the season begins in the summer.

Filming for season 2 has already begun and information coming out states that the show is in pre-production in the Baton Rouge area. They plan to shoot portions of the show in Louisiana in February, April and June. It is interesting that they will be shooting in Baton Rouge. I can only make the assumption that perhaps they chose to use Baton Rouge as a stand-in to represent Dallas. Another interesting point is the film set in Louisiana will be accepting resumes and inquiries by e-mail at truebloodbr@gmail.com for extras on True Blood.

Audiences can expect a whirlwind of experiences with season 2 as only Alan Ball can present it. Sam Trammel mentioned that his character will have a new love interest but she will be up to no good. While Stephen Moyer stated in a red carpet interview during the Golden Globe, season 2 is going to be “out there” and there will be some crazy stuff happening. We cannot wait and see what is in store for season 2.

True Blood’s Anna Paquin Golden Globe Press Conference

Golden Globes Press RoomAfter winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama on Alan Ball’s hit TV series “True Blood,” Anna Paquin answered questions at a press conference from various media outlets. One of the reporters asked her how was this win different from winning the Oscar for “The Piano.” Anna Paquin stated that due to her age at the time (11) she was really unaware of what was going on and at least now she can comprehend it and stay up past 10:00pm. Another reporter tried to pry from Anna any information about what may happen in Season 2. Anna teased them by stating that she couldn’t tell them and they will have to wait and see.

Could Anna Paquin’s Golden Globe Win Foretell a Possible Emmy?

truebloodcast_goldenglobes_011109_001Well, it’s possible but not very likely. The Golden Globes are substantially different from the Emmy’s, where in the last five years just 4 winners of the Globes in a major category have gone on to win Emmy’s.

The Golden Globes are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). HFPA was founded in 1943 but they didn’t begin handing out television awards until 1955, and, as can be seen by the seating arrangements at last nights 66th Golden Globe Awards, they still treat television as an afterthought. The Globes are an odd little award show, which seems to have historically been instituted in order to garner more attention from the studios for the foreign press corps. The membership of HFPA is quite small, about 90 people total.

The Eligability requirements for TV shows, as posted on the HFPA website basically detail the hours and number of episodes that a program must air and that it must be generally available for TV viewing. Oh, and it has to be at least partly of US origins. This is all well and good but then there is this portion:

“*Registration: *

An entry form must be duly completed and returned to the HFPA as early as possible, but no later than the date given in the official 66th Golden Globe Awards Timetable.”

Followed by this hidden at the bottom:

“Throughout the year, the HFPA will meet with cast of selected television series, mini-series and motion pictures made for television to journalistically cover these shows. This is at the discretion of the Television Committee and all requests must be submitted by September 1 of each calendar year.

IN ALL INSTANCES, THE FINAL DECISION ON ALL ELIGIBILITY ISSUES RESTS WITH THE HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION.”

This made me curious, so I started digging and found out that this is really a giant shell game. The studios nominate their shows (through the registration form) then this group of grade B entertainment critics, many of whom are not even full time reporters, decides who they will let schmooze them this year. The studio of the HFPA chosen shows are expected to feed this group described as “more star-struck fans and moochers than serious reporters.” in an expose movie called “The Golden
Globes: Hollywood’s Dirty Little Secret” released in 2003 and directed by Vikram Jayant.

L.A. Weekly film critic John Powers said the group’s members are “essentially just bottom-feeders around the industry, who’ve somehow been inflated to this point where their judgment is supposed to be very, very important.”

According to MSNBC, “If stars and filmmakers fail to turn up for a schmooze session with the HFPA, it generally kills a movie’s chances for Golden Globe nominations, which draw attention that can boost a film’s Oscar prospects.”

After digging this information up I couldn’t help but reflect on my first reaction when I heard that Anna was nominated for a Golden Globe and that Stephen wasn’t. I was totally befuddled. No matter how one feels about Anna’s performances, the general consensus is that Stephen Moyer’s performances have been pure magic, the glue that holds the show together and the only reason that many watch. Could it all be so simple as Stephen wasn’t there, perhaps he was back in England during the True Blood schmooze fest set up for the HFPA? Or is it just that since they value movie actors so much more than television, Anna got the nod due to her prior work while Stephen was ignored? Potentially they could have voted on whom to nominate having seen neither a single episode nor even a single scene with Vampire Bill in it. According to Wikipedia, some years the decision on who wins has been made by as few as 22 voting members!
Twenty-two part time movie fans getting all this attention. Evidently you need to be recommended by someone already in the association in order to join as well. HFPA: a nice neat little fraternity of career assassins in the making.

I don’t blame Alan Ball for playing the game but I am sorely disillusioned after learning all this. The award isn’t worthless because it brought True Blood even more visibility, something very valuable to me as a fan of the show. It was wonderful to see all of the great talent in one place enjoying themselves. Which brings us back to the original
question: Could Anna Paquin’s Golden Globe win foretell a Possible Emmy?  Apparently not. Apparently, any similarity to an actual achievement award, living or dead, is purely coincidental and unintentional.  Void where prohibited by transparency laws. Some dissemblance is required.

True Blood’s Anna Paquin Interview at the HBO After Party

gg2009-stephenwithanna1After winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama, Anna Paquin still seemed in shock and in awe at winning the award. During the HBO After Party Mark Steines from ET had the opportunity to catch up with Anna Paquin and the rest of the cast of “True Blood” and talk to her about her win and ask her where she plans to hide her award. Anna stated that she does not plan to hide it and her co-star joked around stating that it was going to be in every scene. It was wonderful to hear Anna praise the show and the hard work that her fellow cast members contribute to the show.
