As reported on the Andrejsala Latvia website the film crew for Anna Paquin’s new film, Miss Irena’s Children, has established a base in the Andrejsala district of Riga for the film. From October 23 to November 13 casting of actors and extras took place in Riga as well as in the U.S.A., Canada, Great Britain, Poland and Lithuania. Over 3000 Latvians came out for a chance to be cast as a extra with approximately 2000 being hired.Anna is joined in the film by Marcia Gay Harden, Paul Freeman, Goran Visnjic, Scott Handy and Steve Speirs.

The Baltic Course magazine (November 14, 2008) stated that Anna Paquin’s film entitled “Miss Irena’s Children” began shooting in Riga, Latvia on November 13, 2008. The Riga Old Town was selected among a competition of eight cities for its landscape to represent life during WWII.
Anna Paquin will play the lead role of Irena Sandler who is credited in saving thousands of Jewish children in WWII. Ms Sandler was nominated for the Nobel peace prize for her actions. She died early this year at the age of 98.
According to a report in The International Herald Tribune (Nov. 17, 2008) HBO’s “True Blood” is a success. Adapted from the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series written by Charlaine Harris, “True Blood” has increased it viewership by 66% since its inception in September making it one of HBO’s most popular series.
“True Blood” is based upon a small town in Louisiana and how its citizens react to the emergence of vampires within society. The central focus of the show is the romance that flourishes between a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse (the wonderful Anna Paquin) and a sexy vampire named Bill Compton (the gorgeous Stephen Moyer).
Alan Ball the creator of HBO’s “Six Feet Under” adapted Charliane Harris’ novel to create a world that not only incorporates violence, sex and humour, but also dwells upon the concept of belonging and being accepted. The two main characters (Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer) deal with the issues of love, acceptance and feelings of being needed and wanted throughout the series which has caused major chatter on various websites. Alan Ball has stated that he has surfed the various chat rooms to hear what viewers are saying about the show and has found that many women are mesmerized by the love story between Bill and Sookie.
The series started off slowly but each week has gained momentum to result with an average of 6.8 million viewers from a combination of first run, on-demand and re-runs throughout the week. It is apparent that HBO has a hit with “True Blood”.
The second season of the series is scheduled to return begin next summer, however HBO is planning on releasing season one on DVD before the second season ins.
Alan Ball states that he is optimistic for the series. Ball says with the world that Charlaine Harris has created the stories for the series even surprise him.

Presenting their latest novel adaptation for television series, HBO rolled down a blood red carpet in front of The Cinerama Dome in Hollywood to celebrate the L.A. premiere of “True Blood”. The special first screening event was held on Wednesday, September 4, three days before the series will be aired for the first time on September 7.
The evening celebration saw mostly the stars of the series that include Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Kwanten, Jim Parrack, Sam Trammell and Rutina Wesley. Aside from the stars, series creator Alan Ball and Southern Vampire Mysteries books author Charlaine Harris were also in attendance.
Produced by HBO in association with Your Face Goes Here Entertainment, “True Blood” tells the story where humans and vampires live a co-existing life in a small Louisiana town after Japanese-made synthetic blood, “TruBlood”, are available for purchase. The series centers its plot on a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who falls in love with one of the vampires.

With her work in films and theater, Academy Award winning actress Anna Paquin has displayed a range of emotions and a wealth of talent well beyond her years.
Anna will next star in the upcoming HBO drama, “True Blood”, which marks her first foray into series television. “True Blood” is based on the “Southern Vampire” book series by Charlaine Harris, and is set to debut on HBO this September 2008.
Anna recently received an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Elaine Goodale Eastman in HBO’s original movie “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee”, opposite Adam Beach and Aidan Quinn. Directed by Yves Simoneau and produced by Dick Wolf, “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” , the film received a record 17 nominations.
In 2006, Paquin produced “Blue State” with her brother Andrew Paquin, under their banner Paquin Films. “Blue State” is a political romantic comedy about a Democratic campaigner played by Breckin Meyer, who follows through on his promise to move to Canada if George “Dubya” Bush is re-elected. Lured by an organization in Winnipeg that promises to help disgruntled Americans get settled in Canada, Meyer heads to Canada with his traveling partner, played by Anna Paquin. This is the first collaboration between Anna Paquin and her brother. “Blue State” premiered at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival.
Next year she will be seen in Michael Dougherty’s “Trick ‘r Treat,” a thriller about four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween. Produced by Bryan Singer, Warner Bros. will release the film in the fall of 2008.
Paquin has also finished production on Kenneth Lonnergan’s “Margaret,” as the lead, opposite Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo and Matthew Broderick. Paquin plays Lisa, a girl who witnesses a bus accident, and is caught up in the aftermath. “Margaret” is produced by Scott Rudin and Sydney Pollack and executive produced by Anthony Minghella and Dan Halsted. Fox Searchlight is set to release the film.
In 2006, she reprised her role as “Rogue” in Brett Ratner’s “X-Men 3.” 20th Century Fox released the film worldwide on May 26th 2006; the film grossed over 130 million dollars opening weekend.

On stage Paquin received a Drama Desk nomination as Best Lead Actress for her stage debut in Rebecca Gilman’s “The Glory of Living” for director Phillip Seymour Hoffman at New York’s MCC Theater. She followed that critically acclaimed performance with the first West End production of Kenneth Lonergan’s “This is Our Youth” co-staring Jake Gyllenhaal and Hayden Christensen in London. Paquin stunned the world in 1993 with her film debut as the daughter of the bride of an arranged marriage in Jane Campion’s “The Piano.” Paquin’s performance opposite cast members Holly Hunter (who won the Academy Award for Best Actress), Sam Neill, and Harvey Keitel led to her winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 11 years old.
