True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten Gets an Extreme Makeover for His New ‘Vikings’ Role

Kwanten Will Play the Role of a Christian Monk in Northmen – A Viking Saga:

Credit: John P. Johnson/HBO Ryan Kwanten “Jason Stackhouse”

Recently we announced that Ryan Kwanten (who plays Jason Stackhouse in HBO’s True Blood) will join the cast of Northman – A Viking Saga. There was no news, at the time, of which role he would be playing in this latest movie of his, yet many people were wondering if he would in fact be a Viking. Well, since he arrived at the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) premieres for his latest movies, The Right Kind of Wrong and Mystery Road, sporting a shaved head, there are now reports that he will be playing the part of a Christian monk! There is no official confirmation on this though, with IMDb.com still not listing the name of his character in the Viking movie.

And with True Blood finishing up with Season 7 in 2014, Ryan told the Toronto Sun, during the Toronto International Film Festival, that he is very lucky to be employed in a career where 99% of actors are unemployed or struggling. He also had this to say about being an actor:

In terms of being an artist and being able to express myself physically and emotionally, I think it’s such a real liberation. In a weird way actors are these eternal kids. We get paid to play out this innocence, and our emotions. And quite often in ways we wish we could in real life.

It’s a great thing that a talent such as Ryan Kwanten is still in the limelight and with so many movies of his coming up in the near future, I don’t think we have to worry about that light dimming just because True Blood is coming to a close!

Why don’t you check out Ryan’s latest do by clicking here and letting us know what you think in the comments below!

True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten Moves From Vampires to Vikings

Northmen – A Viking Saga is Kwanten’s Latest Movie Endeavour:

Ryan Kwanten stars as Jason Stackhouse in HBO's True BloodNo, Jason Stackhouse is not teaming up with Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard)! Instead, Ryan Kwanten (who plays Stackhouse in HBO’s True Blood) has joined the cast of the latest movie about Vikings. Other cast members include: Tom Hopper, Charlie Murphy, Ed Skrein ( from HBO’s other juggernaut, Game of Thrones), Ken Duken, Anatole Taubman and James Norton.

Northmen – A Viking Saga will tell the tale of Viking marauders trapped in enemy territory in Scotland. The movie is being co-produced by Ascot Elite Entertainment Group, Two Oceans Productions and Jumping Horse Film. The producers include: Karin G. Dietrich, Ralph S. Dietrich Daniel Hoeltschi, Marco Del Bianco, Frank Kaminski, Ulrich Stiehm and Rolf Wappenschmitt. Deitrich had the following to say about the movie:

Northmen – A Viking Saga is a film that is close to all of our hearts.  It tells a timeless story of courage, camaraderie and adventure, with exciting historical roots that have stimulated significant, and ever increasing, interest in the last few years. This is an epic and ambitious project but we could not feel more confident about the cast and crew that has come together to bring the story to life.

Kwanten is currently on location in Brazil (for the movie Rio, eu te amo), but once that is over, he will head to South Africa and Germany where filming for Northman – A Viking Saga will take place over the course of eight weeks. Claudio Fah (of Sniper: Reloaded and Hollow Man 2 fame) will be directing.

There is no word yet on the character Ryan Kwanten will be playing, or how big his role will be. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments below.

Magnolia Buys the Rights to True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten’s Latest Movie

The Right Kind of Wrong Gets Snapped Up Before its Premiere at TIFF:

Ryan Kwanten stars as Jason Stackhouse in HBO's True Blood Season 6True Blood fans will be able to get their Ryan Kwanten (who plays Jason Stackhouse in HBO’s True Blood) fix thanks to Magnolia Pictures (owned by the Wagner/Cuban Company) snapping up the rights to his latest movie, The Right Kind of Wrong.

The movie will make its debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Thursday September 12th 2013, but it appears the hype surrounding the movie was enough for Magnolia Pictures to grab it early. Magnolia’s president, Eamonn Bowles, has described the movie as being a ‘well directed crowd pleaser’.

The Right Kind of Wrong tells the story of Leo Palamino, a failed-writer-turned-dishwasher who’s main claim to fame is the fact that his ex-wife made a video about him called Why You Suck and then posted it to YouTube. Leo then meets the girl of his dreams – except it is her wedding day and she is getting married to Mr. Perfect!

The movie is produced by Robert Lantos and Ari Lantos. It also stars Catherine O’Hara and Will Sasso. The Right Kind of Wrong is adapted from Tim Sandlin’s novel Sex and Sunsets.

If all goes according to plan, then fans should be able to see The Right Kind of Wrong in cinemas early in 2014. I certainly can’t wait for this movie – how about you? Let us know in the comments below!

VIDEO: True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten is One Busy Movie Star!

Kwanten Stars in a Short Film as Well as a Feature Film:

Ryan Kwanten stars as Jason Stackhouse in HBO's True BloodMany fans have been concerned that the life of Ryan Kwanten’s character, Jason Stackhouse, may be at risk this week in HBO’s True Blood Season 6, after he was left alone in a room full of female vampires who hadn’t seen real human blood in weeks. But, even if Jason Stackhouse doesn’t survive Season 6, at least we won’t miss seeing the Aussie star on the big screen!

Firstly, you can enjoy Kwanten in a short film that pays homage to Venom from Marvel Comics. This film was recently premiered by director Joe Lynch (who also directed another Kwanten movie, Knights of Badassdom) at Comic-Con. It is the second instalment in producer Adi Shankar’s “Bootleg Universe”. The movie is called Truth in Journalism and follows Kwanten’s character, Eddie Brock, documentary-style, as he is followed by a French film crew in the 1980’s.

You can view this short film (it goes for a mere 17 mins.) in it’s entirety below:

The second movie Ryan Kwanten has on offer is a feature length movie and goes by the name The Right Kind of Wrong. This movie is directed by Jeremiah Chechik (of Bennie and Joon fame). It stars Catherine O’Hara and Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) alongside True Blood’s Kwanten. The Right Kind of Wrong follows the story of Leo (Ryan Kwanten) who finds the woman of his dreams – only problem is, he meets her on her wedding day! Rather than woo her, he tries to convince the love of his life to marry her fiancé rather than be with him.

The Right Kind of Wrong will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this year, but until then, you can enjoy the movie preview below:

It appears that the 2013 Comic-Con was yet again a success for the True Blood cast and fans! Even though our two favourite male vamps were absent( Alexander Skarsgard, and Stephen Moyer) the panel pulled through with lots of insight on the remainder of the season! The panel included Anna Paquin, Ryan Kwanten, Sam Trammell, Rutina Wesley, Nelsan Ellis, Deborah Ann Woll, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Joe Manganiello, Anna Camp, Michael McMillian and Rob Kazinsky. The True Blood Panel was moderated by TV Guides Kate Hahn.

The True Blood segment kicked off with a video clip of teasers for the 2nd half of the current Season 6. Truebloodnet.com has posted this video if you are eager to check it out!

Here are a few favourite questions and responses:

“Ryan Kwanten on Jason’s “noble” quest to find his parents’ killer – “There’s a lot more in store for Jason – he gets real crazy, real soon. He likes to think he’s Rambo, but fails miserably!”

Deborah Ann Woll on Jessica’s self loathing following season six’s dark twists: “Jessica’s going to have to pay dearly within her own heart for what happened – it’s going to take a long time for her to forgive herself.”

True Blood newbie Rob Kazinsky is bowled over by the reception he’s getting from Comic-Con fans. He also promises we’ll get both light and dark from Warlow this season. “You’re going to see some gnarly stuff!”

Buckner promises that True Blood will “return to its roots” at the end of this season, returning focus to its core characters: “We’re really going to make it feel like we’re coming home.”

Removed by request.

Our apologies but while we do ‘spoil’ on occasion, we don’t normally release this deep a spoiler. We don’t want to ruin your enjoyment of the show this Sunday, nor do we want to take advantage of a mistake on the part of the mother of all things True Blood, HBO. We have several other approved teasers posted on the site and we hope you enjoy one of them.

No blame is affixed to anyone but myself, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

True Blood Season 6 Half Way Finished-Where Will the Next Episode Take Us?:

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard and Kristin Bauer van Straten
True Blood/HBO/John P. Johnson

We are half way through Season 6 of HBO’s hit show True Blood, and things just keep heating up!  The war between vampires and humans continues to escalate, while love and loyalties will continue to be tested.  We know that a major character is supposed to die in Season 6, and that it is to happen around the half way point, could Episode 6 be the ending for one our beloved characters?

HBO has released the details of Episode 6 of True Blood:

Bill (Stephen Moyer) decides to seek out Lillith (Jessica Clark) for advice on handling the escalating human-vampire crisis. Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten), Nora (Lucy Griffiths), Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) get up-close-and-personal looks at the perverse perils of Vamp Camp. Sam (Sam Trammell) comes to a decision he hopes will be in Emma’s (Chloe Noelle) best interest. Andy (Chris Bauer) gives his faerie daughter a name, or two or three or four. Arlene (Carrie Preston) has a solution to Terry’s (Todd Lowe) malaise, and Eric makes a startling discovery”.

This episode is written by Daniel Kenneth and Directed by Howard Deutch.

I can’t help but notice that the main character Sookie Stackhouse(Anna Paquin) and Lafayette Reynolds(Nelsan Ellis) are not mentioned in the Press Release, when we last saw these two Layfayette’s body had been taken over by Sookie’s deceased father, who was trying to drown Sookie…I wonder if this storyline could be the major death plot line…Guess we will have to just wait and see!

Episode 6 aires this Sunday July 21 on HBO at 9:00pm ET/PT.

Rob Kazinsky and Rutger Hauer Join the True Blood Team

Things Are Really Heating – If These Pictures Are Anything to Go By:

Ben Kazinsky will star in the upcoming Season 6 of HBO's True Blood

Looks like Sookie (Anna Paquin) will be smitten without being bitten in the upcoming season six of True Blood!

English EastEnders star Rob Kazinsky was spotted stunningly shirtless with Anna Paquin at a private residence being used as part of the TV series’ set in Los Angeles on March 13.

The 29-year-old Brit is set to play Ben; a faerie that assists Sookie and Jason (Ryan Kwanten) in their journey to solve the secrecy surrounding the murder of the Stackhouse siblings’ parents. He will also serve as another love interest for Sookie as a new regular on the show.

Upon seeing the paparazzi pictures, Kazinsky humorously tweeted:

“Today the dailymail showed me that in the 4 years since eastenders, I’ve just about doubled in size. #doughnuts”.

Bfore his stint in the upcoming Season 6 of True Blood, fans may recognise the actor from EastEnders.

Rutger Hauer stars in Season 6 of HBO's True BloodHe, however, is not the only new mysterious character for True Blood’s sixth season.

Rutger Hauer, known for Blade Runner and The Hitcher, will also be joining the cast as a character called Macklyn. Little has been revealed about him, only that he is closely connected to Sookie and Jason.

A fae perhaps? Or Warlow, the vampire? Only time will tell…

New Pictures Emerge of True Blood’s Rutger Hauer and Ryan Kwanten

What are Jason Stackhouse and Macklyn up to in Season 6?

Rutger Hauer guest stars on the set of True Blood along side full time True Blood star Ryan Kwanten in Los AngelesPhotos have just been released of newcomer, Macklyn (Rutger Hauer) and True Blood regular Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) on the set of HBO’s True Blood. While there is no indication which episode of Season 6 this is for, it certainly is food for thought.

Thanks to previous spoilers released, we know that Macklyn is a sinister and some what mysterious character that has ties to both Jason and Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). It is, in fact, a possibility that Macklyn may have been the one who murdered their parents! So what is Jason doing in these scenes with him?

But what I really want to know is…who is Macklyn’s hairdresser?

You can view more photos of Rutger Hauer and Ryan Kwanten here.

How do you think this story line will play out in Season 6 of True Blood? Let us know in the comments below.

True Blood Season 6 Spoilers: Episode Names, Cast Calls and Celebrity Hints

Joe Manganiello and Mark Hudis Hint at Season 6:

Cast of HBO's hit vampire show, True BloodWhile new episode names for HBO’s epic vampire show, True Blood, are being announced, there is also a flurry of activity as the cast and crew go back to work. While fans speculate over whether Season 6 of True Blood will premier in early June, there is plenty of solid news in relation to Season 6.

Firstly, plenty of news sources have released the titles for episodes 1 and 2. SpoilerTV have announced that Episode 1 will be titled ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ and Episode 2 is called ‘Here Comes the Sun’. HollywoodHills.com have also reported a role call for several characters. Firstly, they are after someone to play Niall’s (Rutger Hauer) mother and the scenes involving her will date all the way back to 3500 B.C.! A younger version of Niall will also be needed for these scenes. There is also a call for a guest role. Veronica is a prostitute makes money by letting vampires feed off her. Since it’s a guest role, I am guessing things end badly for her.

Joe Manganiello will be getting a haircut (after starring in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s upcoming movie, Ten) to maintain his role of Alcide Herveaux. On his role in Season 6 of True Blood, he told Access Hollywood at HBO’s Golden Globes after-party:

“[It’s] racier,” he said. “My character’s taken over the wolf pack, so as an alpha, and a pack of dogs, you gotta regulate, you gotta set it straight with everybody so there’s some violence. It’ll be fun. This is Season 6 and the first couple scripts I read – I think they’re doing a lot of stuff that they maybe held back on the past couple years. They’re pretty wild. I think it’s going to be a pretty wild season.”

He also hopes that the temperatures raise  a little in Southern California before shooting starts. This suggests there will be a further lack of clothes for Alcide in Season 6.

Over at WetPaint.com, there is news from the new co-executive Mark Hudis, who is replacing Alan Ball. Hudis has plenty to tell Haverford College’s alumni magazine about Season 6 of True Blood:

“Certainly [Bill] is not going to be the Bill we know and love. He’s going to have more bite, no pun intended.”

He also went on to say that Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) will spend most of Season 6 looking for Harlow, the vampire Sookie has apparently been promised to. Mark also wants to keep the storyline central to Bon Temps.
