True Blood Season 3 Casting News: Alcide Has Been Cast

Joe ManganielloHere is the casting news that many True Blood fans have been waiting for:  who is going to play Alcide Herveaux in Season 3 of True Blood.  The wait is finally over as Michael Ausiello from EW.com reports that the werewolf, Alcide Herveaux will be played by Joe Manganiello, best known for playing barkeep Owen on One Tree Hill and Marshall’s law school chum Brad on How I Met Your Mother. As stated in previous casting calls Alcide is described as good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, articulate, heroic, and decent — to assist Sookie in her search for Bill, but unfortunately has a psycho on-again, off-again girlfriend by the name of Debbie Pelt, who is still to be cast.

So True Blood fans what do you think?  Are you happy with the choice?

I think he’s perfect. I’ve never seen him before this picture, and he is exactly what I think Alcide looks like.

No,he doesn’t do it for me but maybe he was the best of who they had to choose from.Time will tell.
I suppose those of us who read the books know in our minds what the characters should look and sound like so lucky for him we didn’t have a say as to who gets the part of Alcide.

That is an AWESOME choice.. i watch one tree hill and he was awesome in that show..so he will be amazing in this one ..GO TRUE BLOOD!!!!!!

Oh well, my hopes for Russell Brand were dashed. But at least he will be making a remake of Arthur, which probably suits him better. I have not seen Mr. Manganiello, but he does look cute & rough around the edges. I’m sure he’ll be perfect!

I have never seen him, before?? He looks good, though…Scruffy, always looks sexier..to me, anyways….Welcome, to season 3!! Season 2, better get here pretty soon…my attention span, is waning….I’m already starting to get all thrilled over “Gerard Butler!!” Where is my “Bill??!” What is up with that??! Yes, I’m bored…..

Great choice of casting! Alan Ball and gang have been hitting homeruns when it comes to casting critical characters. He’s as tall as Skars so I’ll enjoy seeing both Joe and Alex on screen together staring each other down eye-to-eye.

Oh my, can you imagine the photo shoots we’ll get peeks at in the future with Alex, Stephen, Ryan, Nelsan, Sam and now Joe? Be still my heart!

Dont get me wrong , i love trueblood and the story line , but this guy is not rough around the edges … lol he looks too pretty … looks like he has never been in a fight …someone a little more rugged would have been better ….

      Well I am sure they can work on the ‘rough around the edges’ bit. AB has stated he picks the best actors, and this guy is formally trained carnegie mellon drama graduate, so I am sure he will do the part justice…Guess we will have to wait and see!!
      He fits the basic outline of how I pictured alcide, dark and handsome, BIG man. He is 6’5′ and alex is 6’4′. So we know he pretty much fits alcide character in the books.
      Im also thinking he must have significant on-screen time with eric, why they cast I guy just as tall. Thus I have come to a prediction that they will follow club dead pretty closely. If the writers wanted to take alcide in a slightly different direction, the casting of the guy specifically to be as tall as he is would not have been important, and the show may have cast someone different..
      I like the casting choice!! Awesome TB.. I am just way 2 anxious now.. TB has more eye candy than anything on the small or big screen!!! Love it!!!

I love this choice for Alcide….like the scruffy pic that PBT mentioned best, because it best describes CH’s description of what AH looked like. He will definitely give Eric and Bill some competition with the ladies (both on and off) True Blood.

    I was thinking about that photo too. Wasn’t sure should I go for the clean cut look or the long hair and scruffy look. So I thought I’ll play it safe and use the clean cut look and if he appears in the scruffy look it will be an added treat. 🙂

      Great post Ollie. I agree I think he needs the brown long shoulder length wavy hair look as that’s how I pictured Alcide. Fits with the whole ‘were’ image, but I’ll take him as I get him.

    You are so right, that picture you have the link to fits the Alcide character much better because he looks to pretty in the above one. In the picture you linked he really looks like Jason Behr who was in that werewolf movie with Mitra Rona. I can’t remember the name of that movie!! I think Michael can pull off Alcide. If they follow he books, he is going to be in the series from now on, so I am glad they took their time chosing this character.
