VIDEO: Anna Paquin and Kevin Alejandro Support The Give A Damn Campaign

True Blood‘s Anna Paquin and Kevin Alejandro made a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on behalf of the True Colors Fund‘s, “Give A Damn”campaign about equality as stars publicly declare their sexuality, whether it be straight, gay or bisexual.  This PSA features Anna and Kevin along with Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Nixon, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Judith Light, Kim Kardashian, Clay Aiken, and Wanda Sykes, is one of several that will be unveiled online in the coming months.

The PSA was taped on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Standard Hotel in Los Angeles where Anna identified herself as being bisexual by saying “I’m Anna Paquin. I’m bisexual, and I give a damn.”

The “Give A Damn” campaign officially launches online on April 1, 2010 at 9am EDT on the wegiveadamn.org website.

The True Colors Fund is the non-profit arm of the True Colors Tour. Co-founded by Cyndi Lauper, the organization, according to it’s website, is dedicated “to inspire and engage everyone, particularly the straight community, to become active participants in the advancement of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) equality and ensure a strong and vibrant LGBT community.” The video plays after this but takes a while to load.

True, your sexual preference is your own business…usually private… That’s cool they are speaking up,though…I understand being straight..gay…But, Bi?? mmmmm…I mean pick a sex and stay with it…That’s just my opinion…Her business,her sex life…and of course, Stephen know’s!! Geez!! Still love the show..and waiting for my season 2!!! Go!! True Blood!!

I’ve sat here deciding whether I should add another comment. Probably not. But I am. I have such immense respect and admiration for Stephen and Anna, and like many, hope they will have a happily ever after. Hate crimes against anyone because of their “difference” are indefensible and sickening. I applaude Anna for joining this cause. She is indeed a gutsy, confident young woman, but not one who has welcomed uninvited attention to herself. Yet, she decided to invite a firestorm of attention to herself as the FACE of bisexuality in this PSA. Perhaps that’s her point. No one would have ever known this about her. She’s not a target and her sexual orientation would remain private forever, and she could still support “Give a Damn”. I’m on the fence whether this was a wise decision or a serendipitous bad one for her. I assume she had Stephen’s support.

Thanks Crazyforbill for the words of wisdom. I really don’t care who she is attacted to however, as much as I like her as an actress I am not sure if it was a qutsy move or an arrogant move. I do agree at this point in their relationship she is comitted to Stephen Moyer. However, I am not so sure I would pencil in a happy ending.

I understand the importance of equality, but I don’t understand why she choice this time in her life to announce that she was bisexual. Does this mean she and Steve do not have a monogamous relationship? Is he also bisexual?

    I think TallGrll, CrazyforBill and Leslie were all correct in their statement that “she is with him because she loves him (obviously) more than anyone else, of either gender. He completes and satisfies her.”

    As with any relationship nothing is guaranteed but you hope that the love that you have found with that special person will last a lifetime and with Stephen and Anna I hope that they have a very happy and loving, relationship with each other that will last a lifetime. 🙂

    This does NOT mean that Steve and Anna are not monogamous or that Steve is also bisexual!
    It only means that Anna could be attracted to someone of either sex.
    The fact is, she became attracted to Steve, fell in love with him, and he with her and they will get married, if they haven’t already done so(I can totally see that they may have had a private wedding already to avoid the paparazzi). They are committed to each other.
    I think there is still a lot of ignorance out there on bisexuality–it doesn’t mean that you can’t commit to one person at all.
    Let’s just relax about it and admire Anna for the gutsy, brave person she is.

Thank you for cutting to the chase and making it all so clear: she is with him because she loves him (obviously)more than anyone else, of either gender. He completes and satisfies her. She’s not about to randomly switch sides. She’s just saying…

I GIVE A DAMN ! GOOD FOR ANNA !! IT’S WAY PAST TIME THAT WE SHOULD ACCEPT OTHERS AS THEY ARE. MY FAVORITE MALE SINGER IS ADAM LAMBERT. IMAGINE THE WORLD WITHOUT HIS BEAUTIFUL VOICE, AND OPEN HEART, JUST BECAUSE HE IS GAY. NO SOOKIE, BECAUSE ANNA IS BISEXUAL. NO K.D. LANG SINGING AT THE OLYMPICS, AND BRINGING TEARS WITH HER SONG, BECAUSE SHE’S GAY. SO MANY OTHERS WOULD BE LOST, SO MUCH BEAUTY AND COURAGE, AND LOVE, JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT “LIKE US”. WHAT A WASTE THAT WOULD BE. HOW TRAGIC. LOVE ANOTHER, AS YOU WOULD BE LOVED.

After seeing this PSA a few times It seems to me that Ms.Paquin is Advocating for equal treatment and civil rights for the GLB community and Not outting herself. I admire her moxie in taking a stand on this issue.

Yay Anna!
All you can do about the rude and ignorant comments is be a voice for enlightenment.
I remember once telling someone that I’m a huge fan of kd lange and the person wrinkled their nose and said “But, isn’t she *gay*?”
To which I answered: “I don’t want to f*** her. I think she has an amazing voice and I want to hear her sing. What’s YOUR criteria for a singer?”
People asking how could she be engaged to Steven are just ignorant and don’t know much, if anything, about human sexuality.
She’s engaged to Steven *because she loves him.*
Duh!!

I think Anna is very brave and gutsy to do this. I tip my hat to her. I know that the blogosphere is just filled with stories on this topic right now. There are some very nasty, ignorant and rude comments out there. But I have seen such comments before about Anna’s looks, talent and morals. A lot of people are asking how she could be engaged to Steve. I just look at it this way: not only does she love him more than all other men, she loves him more than all other women! Brava, Anna, you are the best.

    The only thing that should concern her is her love for her man and his in return.
