True Blood 3.12 “Evil Is Going On” Review

Anna Paquin, True Blood, Sookie StackhouseAnother thrilling finale, another frustratingly long wait for our next fix of True Blood! “Evil Is Going On” saw characters seeking vengeance, facing demons, and searching for direction. We got our first tease of the witches to come, the supernatural element that’s going to be thrown into the melting pot in Season 4 to stir up trouble. We also watched our protagonist disappear right before our eyes. As always, executive producer Alan Ball shook things up in typical style and left us wanting more!

The Coup d’Etat of Russell Edgington

Burning in the sun awaiting death, Russell tries to convince Eric how foolish it is to die over a stupid grudge–it’s not like Eric’s father was a great man or king. Godric appears to Eric as a spirit, urging him to find forgiveness, but Eric resists the words of his beloved Maker. Sookie‘s blood loss sends her on a brief run through fairy land while she’s unconscious. She awakens to Bill‘s face hovering over her and is NOT pleased to see him. She slaps him for betraying her again. “No, I only pretended to betray you to save your life, again.” True enough, but unfortunately Sookie has reached the limits of her tolerance for vampire nonsense. She hears that Eric has gone outside to kill himself and Russell, and pushes past Bill to go save him. With the help of Russell’s taunting words, she gets fired up enough to shoot energy from her hands to break the handcuffs and send Russell flying across the parking lot. She then drags Eric inside and, much to Bill’s dismay, gives him her blood to heal him.

Eric drinks from her wrist and then wipes the blood from his mouth in a way that is charmingly arrogant, before changing his mind about Russell. He wants to bring him inside, not out of forgiveness as Godric wanted, but so that Russell wouldn’t be able to find some sense of peace in the true death. Eric has other plans for the once fearsome vampire. Sookie takes a silver chain to get Russell, now blackened and extra crispy but grateful for her assistance. Eric, Pam, and Bill go to sleep for the day while Sookie watches over Russell. At first she protests, “I’m not babysitting this psycho while you guys take a nap.” But she agrees and even seems to enjoy her power over the fallen king. She toys with him about what it would take for her to make a deal–$5 million dollars, his mansion, etc.–but then she takes the jar of Talbot and pours the last remains of Russell’s lover down the garbage disposal. She laughs almost maniacally as he screams in grief.

Alcide arrives, summoned by Eric for the use of his truck to clear his father’s debt once and for all, and he and Sookie catch up over a beer. He admits that he’s been thinking about her, while Russell plays the part of the peanut gallery:

“I can’t help it that I’m a good guy.”

“Yet every full moon he turns into a wolf and eats his prey.”

“Rabbits and squirrels, not human beings!”

“Details…”

When the vampires wake up, Alcide smiles to hear Sookie’s attitude towards them so altered. She rescinds all their invitations as they leave to do whatever it is they’re going to do to Russell.

The Dark Side of Bill

At a construction site, Eric has devised a cruel punishment for Russell–wrapping him in silver and encasing him in concrete. It won’t kill him, and it won’t hold him forever, but he’ll probably be trapped for a hundred years or so to live in agony. Eric envisions Godric once again, who’s disappointed that his progeny is so full of hatred and unable to make peace. Eric snaps back at the empty air, “This is who I am, Godric. This is what you made!” Up until the end, Russell is making threats at Eric and Bill, swearing that they’ll regret this, although they’re both very happy about it in the moment. Once he disappears under the cement, Bill turns to Eric and offers his hand, seemingly in friendship, but then in a flash snaps the silver handcuff back on Eric’s wrist, tosses him in another pit, and pours concrete on him: “When fate presents one with such a grand opportunity, what else is one to do?” His dark turn doesn’t end there, as he immediately calls up a hit man on Eric’s cell phone and orders the murder of Pam.

Jason: Do the Right Thing

Jason goes to the police station and finds a team from the DEA preparing to raid Hot Shot. Despite Andy‘s warnings, Jason takes Crystal to help her family. Grumpy ol’ Calvin isn’t glad to see them, but at least he listens when Jason says he’s only trying to help these people who are dirty, hungry, and have “obviously got dental problems.” Calvin is in the process of destroying all the V when Felton drops in, clearly high. He shoots a cousin and his father without even blinking, before turning the gun on Jason. He’s going to take the V and Crystal, and ride off in Jason’s truck. With no other options, Jason kisses Crystal and promises to find her, and to take care of her family.

Andy sits in his office, feeling worthless because of the macho DEA leader and curiously examining the V that’s supposed to be in evidence, but thankfully he’s interrupted by Jason being hauled in for impeding the drug bust. Andy scolds him for this, as well as for spilling the truth to Tara, and says he’s wasted any shot he had at becoming something. On the contrary, Jason might finally be turning into a guy worth knowing. Then again, he might be up to his dumb antics soon enough, or he could surprise us and really grow up now that he’s got people depending on him. At the very least, he wisely tells Andy that this is bigger than the two of them, and that “sometimes the right thing to do is the wrong thing.”

Tara’s Ch-ch-changes

After their night together, Sam (who looks mighty cute in the morning, by the way) cooks breakfast for Tara. Casual conversation turns serious when Sam opens up about the secret he’s been hiding for a long time–he’s a shapeshifter. Tara sees this as just another freaky supernatural thing in a long list of them, and while she doesn’t seem to reject Sam’s true identity, she talks about how much she’d like to start her life over. Speaking as someone who’s done it, Sam says she could do that if she wanted to. There’s so much she wants to forget–Maryann, Eggs, Franklin–and the first person she turns to is her mother. She catches Lettie Mae and Reverend Daniels with their pants down. She doesn’t judge her mom but recognizes how deluded she is into thinking that this affair is a good thing and will make everything better in her life: “I’m finally gonna be happy.” Tara just smiles and says she hopes that’s true. I think the encounter makes her see that other people are messed up, too, and if she wants to change, she’ll have to do it herself. The first step: a haircut. She symbolically cuts away all her burdens (and it’s a very nice look for Rutina Wesley). Sookie arrives home and the two best friends share a quiet scene together before hugging and parting for what will probably be longer than either one expects. Tara says she’s just going to see Lafayette, but when she pulls up to Merlotte’s and takes in the familiar sight, she smiles and keeps on driving. Who knows where she’s going, but it’s clear that she needs a fresh start.

Lafayette: See No Evil

Lafayette’s post-V delusions continue. He sees Sam and imagines him, with hands bloody, saying, “Cross me, you’re a dead man.” Then in the kitchen talking to Arlene, Lafayette pictures Rene holding her throat, saying he’s inside her. He calls Jesus in a panic, who comes to Merlotte’s right away to comfort him. His reassurance turns out to be more shocking than Lafayette anticipated: Jesus recalls the first time magic was unleashed in him and he started seeing things before he could control it. He tells Lafayette that he’s a “brujo”–a witch. “You’re a witch who’s a nurse who’s a dude,” Lafayette says in astonishment. Surprisingly, though, he seems to be fine with the news about his boyfriend. It will be interesting to see what role Lafayette has to play in the story of the witches next season.

Jessica & Hoyt: Happily Ever After?

Hoyt drives to work and finds himself on the receiving end of an intervention. Maxine, Summer, and his high school guidance counselor sit him down to discuss what they perceive as his mistakes. Summer reads a note about how sad she is that he chose darkness over life, and Maxine threatens to kick him out of the house and take away his inheritance. Well, Hoyt has already moved out, and she has no money, so she really has no leverage. He’s in love with Jessica, and he’s finally in control of his own life. That night, he surprises Jessica with a house he bought for them, and a marriage proposal. They are really the brightest part of the entire show right now. Jessica says, “I don’t know what I’d do without you.” “Lucky for you,” he replies, “you’ll never have to find out.” As Hoyt picks her up to kiss her, it’s a picture perfect moment of young love, as the camera pans out of the doorway…until it falls on the doll lying in the dark, a reminder of those who would break them apart. I’m not sure what doll-fanatic Summer is capable of, but Maxine showed the lengths to which she would go when she bought a gun with wooden bullets.

No More Mr. Nice Sam

Sam goes to apologize to Terry and Tommy for what he said in anger the previous day. Terry cries with happiness because of all the good things in his life, and the fact that he’s got his friend back. Sam seems a little uncomfortable at the display of emotion (Terry is quirky, but I think we could all stand to view life more from his perspective). Tommy’s house has been cleared out, and so has Sam’s safe full of money. He freaks out again, grabs his gun, and hunts his little brother down. When Sam catches up to him, Tommy cries about how Sam changed his whole life and is throwing him away now. When he finds no sympathy, he picks up the bag of money and stalks off, calling his brother’s bluff on the threatening gun. Sam lifts it and fires with a steady hand. Did he kill Tommy? Probably not, but the point is that he’s not taking people’s crap anymore.

Sookie’s Disillusionment

Bill shows up at Sookie’s to talk. He tells her about Russell and Eric, and how he’s going to kill any other vampire that finds out about what she truly is. They pose too great a danger to her–Russell was proof enough of that when he said her blood was heavenly delicious and that others wouldn’t be able to stop themselves from draining her. Bill explains that even if she doesn’t want to be with him anymore, he’ll always protect her, and will always love her. She almost stops him from leaving, but then Eric busts open the door, covered in concrete (Pam came to the rescue, yay!) and spills the dark secrets Bill has been hiding. He was sent to Bon Temps by Queen Sophie-Anne to find out more about her, and he allowed the Rattrays to beat her so that she would need to drink his blood to heal. Sookie is furious and devastated.  Bill tries to explain that he loves her for who she is NOT what she is and he was not going to “give her up” to Sophie-Anne. He tries to make her understand that although he was sent there by the Queen he DID fall in love with her. She feels like she was manipulated into loving him, and despite the words he has said and continues to say, so she kicks him out of her house and wants nothing more to do with him. It’s not like she runs into Eric’s arms–she screams at him to leave her alone, as well. “I’m sorry to see you suffer like this. I thought you had a right to know.” Eric return back to Fangtasia where Pam has tried to wash the cement out of her hair as she askes Eric if he killed Bill.  Eric simply responds that he created a fate far worst then the true death for him and this punishment will hurt him more.

Back at his own house, Bill opens the door to Sophie-Anne. She can barely contain her excitement about tasting fairy blood and walking in the sun. Bill dashes her hopes, saying he lured her there to kill her. She may be older, “but I have nothing left to lose.” They both rise up into the air, fangs drawn, and fly at each other across the room. Meanwhile, Sookie takes off running into the woods, echoing her first night with Bill, after Gran died. This time, however, she goes to Gran to mourn the loss of Bill. Kneeling in the cemetery by her grandmother’s headstone, she cries over how lost she feels. Claudine appears: “You are not alone. Come with us.” Encircled by faeries, her kind about whom she knows so little, Sookie takes Claudine’s hand, and they all vanish in a burst of light.

It was a well-written episode, to be sure–Alan Ball always delivers great dialogue and a compelling story. The general reaction, however, seems to be somewhat negative, at least from what I’ve seen on Twitter. I think people enjoyed it and got emotional over key moments, but if we’re comparing this finale to the previous 2 years, I think what may have been lacking was the element of excitement and tension to carry us into next year. Especially with the Season 2 finale, “Beyond Here Lies Nothin’,” the characters took down Maryann in grand fashion, after which new, surprising storylines began. Exactly as a good finale should, there was resolution to the season-long journey, as well as a cliffhanger to leave us craving answers.

“Evil Is Going On” seemed to have the resolution part down with very little in the way of shocking twists and new doors being opened. We already knew Sookie was a fairy, so her disappearing with Claudine was more like a continuation of her quest for identity. It will lead to more revelations in Season 4, certainly, but it wasn’t quite on par with “Oh my, someone’s been murdered in the back seat of this car/someone’s taken Bill!” Both of those things seemed to come out of nowhere and leave us awe-struck with disbelief, in a good way.

Come next summer, I’m sure we’ll all be hyped up with anticipation as always. This episode hasn’t lessened my feelings for the show, by any means. As someone who loves True Blood but still wants to examine it critically, I’m just facing this hiatus not quite as full of burning questions as usual. Do you agree or disagree? Share your thoughts in the comments and let’s get the 9 month-long discussion started!

Hi Truebies,
Sorry I have been to busy to post in any lengthy and coherent manner lately, so much going on and now back in school working on another certification associated with my degree.

Good episode for the finale. Although I did feel it dragged a bit.
I am saddened that I must confess that I do not find all of the storylines very intriguing. But here are my thoughts.

Jason in charge of Hotshot is like giving a kid matches, LOL, only kidding. Perhaps it will be a chance for Jason to mature. I am surprised that the Kitch angle was not looked into further, but perhaps that was also a learning experience and a revelation for Jason in its own way. I think that Jason would make a good cop when he grows up a bit.

I know that although we have seen darkness in Sam and that he has killed in cold blood before, he would not kill his brother, nick him maybe for good measure but never kill. Sam still needs a good woman. Maybe he and Bill should go out now and bar hop for chicks, LOL.

Tara getting a fresh start is a good thing, keep driving honey. And I loved her new softer hair.

Lafayette has now had something awakened in him, not only because of the V but possibly because of his close association with Jesus who is now a self professed witch. Lafayette always had this in him, just like his mother. She ended up in a psych ward though because of this gift of “sight”, perhaps because she could not handle it. I believe Lafayette with Jesus’s help will deal with it better. But is Jesus good or bad? He may have some of his evil grandfathers tendencies (Lafayette may have had a glimpse of this in the demon face that he saw) but he may also be able to bypass them because of his mothers protection. Time will tell.

So sweet of Hoyt and Jess getting a place together. Bill did release her, but she cannot live there until Hoyt fashions a hidey hole for her. The soiled ragged doll left in the room has significance. Perhaps a letting go of innocence? Or a foretelling of danger yet to come? Voodoo?? Vengence of Mama Fortenberry? Who knows.
Anyways, when Jess next goes back to the Compton house, I wonder what she will find?

Terry and Arlene, looks as if this baby will come. I love kids and the idea that a child is born evil does not sit well with me. But this is TB and could Rene have been something more than a crazed serial killer? Just don’t hurt Terry!

Eric willing to die with RE to complete his vendetta. That was a good act and one he was willing to do to honor his family. He caused RE to go all medieval so he took responsibility for it. Good for him. But when the chance to let go of hatred presented itself in the form of spirit Godric, Eric once again proved that he will only think of his own needs and wants and at that point all he wanted was revenge even if it meant dying himself.

He used Sookie, put her in grave danger again, and convinced Bill to help him, thus making Bill look even worse in Sookies eyes. I do believe that Eric has a soft spot for Sookie (we saw this the last two epis) and cares for her in a way that he yet does not even understand. But he still put Sookie in danger. RE was crazed and unpredictable and there was no real way of telling how he would react. Between Eric and Bill they were able to convince him. But it was Bill who had the good sense to remind every one not to drink Sookie dry. Why is it that Bill can do this and other vamps perhaps can not? Another question that I hope will be explored in the future.

I think here we had a chance to see that Eric was again a disappointment to Godric (whether we are to believe it was the true spirit of Godric or Erics subconscious version of Godric we may never know but it can almost be said that they are one in the same and Eric is perhaps warring with himself). He was saddened in Dallas by Erics lack of benevolent vision and now again here.

Godric was hoping that Eric would have evolved by now but alas no. Eric is still behaving as the disrespectful young man we saw a millennia ago.
Eric does not understand real love, peace and forgiveness. We have seen his deep fondness for Pam and feelings for Sookie (but he still can take his frustrations out on Pam and lock Sookie up in a dungeon if it suits him).
Now some of you don’t get your panties in a bunch, I like Eric and his sneering snarky ways. That is who he is and it gives him the best lines (“Eye F*cking” was brilliant).
Perhaps Sookie will change Eric as she has Bill. Only time will tell.

Now as I discuss my thoughts about Bill, one must remember how many times Eric has abused and betrayed Bill. And it is this as well as Bills guilt and protection of Sookie that I believe has fueled Bills past, current, and future actions.

Now to Bill. All cards are FINALLY out on the table and Bill has lost this hand. His mission was bad enough, we all know it, but the fact that he let the Rats beat Sookie, I would have thrown him out too. I do not condone this at all and am saddened by it.

But lets think about the what and whys of this act. The procurer vampire Bill was sent by SA to investigate this girl WITHOUT ANY information at all.
Bill was saved by her, intrigued by her and may have still been late when the Rats accosted her. He asked her several times what she was, maybe even tried to glamour her, but she did not answer except to tell him that she was a waitress.

Bill did not know what the Rats were going to do, we don’t know how long he waited before he intervened. I don’t like that he waited at all, but he only knew Sookie for a day and I believe he used this opportunity to form a bond to help with his investigation of her.
But then he did not count on falling so deeply in love with her. That changed everything.

I can understand why he could not tell her such a horrible truth, because he would have to tell her the whole truth, and it was to much of an evil deed for even him to bear. I know he has always been haunted by it, thus his actions, always saving her, and sacrificing himself for her. He has much to atone for and he knows it.

Lets take a trip back now. You have to think about Bills life or unlife as a vampire. He had Lorena to mold him and make him in her mirror, trying to erase the good man we all knew him to be, even though he was able to eventually release himself from that, he still had participated willingly in her madness.

When he left her, what other influences was he surrounded by? First of all he still had to feed, there was no Tru Blood then.
We have only seen a few vampires that he has associated with and those have been pure vampire in every sense and that means not human friendly.

He associated with Malcom and gang, He aligns himself with SA and he is under Erics authority. Not one of these vamps hold anything but contempt and disgust for humans. They are food and sport, nothing more. This is what Bill had around him yet he eventually was trying to change, mostly because of Sookie. He still made many mistakes, well again look at how he lived for so long. But he has and will pay heavily for his mistakes.

So this is the vampire that meets Sookie, even when she saves him from the Rats Bill doesn’t trust her and expects her to take his drained blood, drink it or sell it. When she still replies in the negative he asks her “what are you?” He obviously gets no believable answer and is still confused by her. Thus perhaps that is why he allows the Rats to hurt her. He is a vampire on a mission and will do whatever necessary to accomplish that mission.

Ahh, but as his feelings for her grew, I do wish he would have told her the truth sooner though but how many people or vamps has Bill been able to trust?

Bill betraying Eric was a surprise, but he really did not try to kill him did he? He could have but instead he attempted to encase him in cement, not a permanent death. Wow, Bill had a plan!! LOL. But not a surprise, remember Bill had a brilliant plan when dealing the final blow to MA and saving an entire town. Bill is very intelligent and it shows, and he is also a man in love.

Actually I thought it intriguing to see this other layer of him (although we have seen it before, his killing of Uncle Bartlet was a pure cold act, but again he was avenging Sookies defilement by that child molester).
And speaking in Erics voice? Again I was surprised. Bill came up with this plan in a heart beat or lack of, he had no idea what they were going to do with RE until he woke and saw Alcide.

As to Bill trying to get rid of Eric and Pam, he told Sookie the truth about that, it was to protect her. Could it also have been to keep Eric from telling Sookie about the mission and the Rats? Possibly, but how did Eric know about any of this? SA could have told him about the mission but did she know about the Rats? Bill purposely kept all his findings from SA. So there are many unanswered questions here.

Also how did Bill know that Eric had an assassin? Did Bill find out that said assassin was sent after him earlier as well? So Bill has no allegiance to Eric at all. He may have also felt that Eric would eventually attempt to have him killed again once this was all said and done.
Pam would have killed Bill if she could have and wanted Eric to finish the job. Also in epi 11, Bill could have killed Pam, even blinded, but did anyone notice that during their fight he never hit her, always pushed her away. I thought that was significant.

SA could care less about Bill and would have let him rot remember? She just wants Sookie so she can sail in the daytime on her yacht. Again no allegiance there.

Bill and RE mention that other vamps would not be able to stop when feeding on Sookie, but Bill is the only one who can control himself. I wonder why so much emphasis was put on that? When Bill drained her last, he was tortured, starving, and unconscious. Eric was burned yes but he had just fed on Sookies blood and yet he had to be stopped by Bill from draining Sookie.

There has to be something even more to Bill that we do not know yet.
I think that when RE and Eric drained Sookie she was practically dead but her “faeness”, for want of a better word, kept her going until Bill could feed her, and I thought it very interesting that she was running through darkness and then the chandelier of bright light appeared to her from above and as she was gazing into the chandelier, it only burned brighter as it turned into Bills face. Not darker as before.
A sign, or foreshadowing for the future?
There is still something more that happened between Bill and Claudine. They were together for a very long time, much may have been said.

When Eric comes back to tell Sookie the truth about Bill, Eric says to Sookie that Bill has lied to save himself, but did not Eric do the same? He lied to Sookie about the abduction of Bill when he “thought” Bill had been taken by Rueben. Eric lied to protect himself from repercussions by Sookie and he also lied about the V selling, pinned it on Bill again to protect himself. He also lied about his knowledge of danger in Dallas, as well as contacting Lorena. All this for his own ends.

In reality both men are still vampires and crafty and will do what they need to survive and succeed. Both are flawed and although so far only Bill has and will pay the price for these flaws.

So now Bill has hit rock bottom. He has lost Sookie, he has no friends, he has released his progeny, he has no allegiance to any territory. In essence he is an island. And now, again, he is in a no win battle with a vamp that is older and stronger. But then again he has nothing to lose. If he survives, his mission now will be to continue to always protect Sookie.

I do love that AB has a clean slate to write Bills story, I am also hoping for something less Sookie centric.
We know that Bill is very intelligent and has been interested in furthering human/vamp relations. We saw this as far back as his last encounter with Malcom and gang.

As to Bill being with other women, it may happen, yet I do not believe that Bill would ever love another as he loves Sookie.

I cant wait for his continuing story. His cliffhanger is once again the one I will be waiting for.

Sookie has now gone to faery land. We know she wont stay but perhaps she will get some answers. Who killed her parents and how, what more she is (please not an alien), and what other powers she may possess. Perhaps she will also meet Niall.

She will also have a fling with the handsome werewolf Alcide, good!! But you could already see the forlorn look on her face when Alcide told her that he only came when Eric promised to release his father from all debts. Also we still have Debbie on the loose. Alcide still has deep feelings for Debbie and that may cause problems with any relationship he may have with Sookie in the future.

Lastly I had so much fun with Russells character this season. I am looking forward to him breaking out of his cement prison and joining us again next season to regal us with his manic wit and glory in the drama from his revenge.

Well it has been a wild ride this summer. Now again we have the long hiatus ahead. I look forward to the continuing story of all our characters, but for now I wish the best for all the actors that worked so hard to keep our obsession riding such a high. I wish them luck as they pursue other projects and I also hope they get a chance to rest before we demand their return.

**BTW, congratulations to Stephen for winning the “Battle of the Fang”. But in reality it is both the wonderful charities that have benefited so well from this fun competition. The money raised on both fronts was amazing.

Well done Nia for a well balance review! My thoughts exactly, though you are nicer about it all than I can be.

By going with what AB has said about S4, he said NOTHING was random in this episode and there will be answers in S4. I hope he clarifies Bill. Bill did not deserve that character assassination, but as things are going slow on the E/S and S/A front, I guess AB had to hurry things along, because to me, and many other viewers, it does not seem logical for Sookie to be with Eric at this stage of the game, and really girls, have you seen Sookie of late? Do you really want her to be with Eric? Or Alcide? Come on! Everyone deserves better than her. If she does not get her way, watch out! A bit of a princess, our Sookie! I, for one, am glad she and Bill are no longer together. She was a b*atch these last few episodes and especially this one. She always says that Bill has to tell her the truth, but she gives him no opportunity to do so or if he does say or do something, she yells and screams at him (or slapped). Grow up Sookie!

Also, AB said that Eric will be involved in Vampire politics and that Sookie will be with Alcide a lot this season. How does that fit in with your storyline hopes for S4? I could not get past book 3 – skimmed book 4.

I hope with all these supes and witches that AB does not lose his way. I loved this show until 3 episodes ago. It has given me a downer and I don’t know if I want to get excited for S4. The exceptionally hot shower scene between Sookie and Bill was my finale.

Also, Eric was a tattle tail to Sookie about Bill. He did that as retaliation for what Bill did to him. Full stop. He was snarky and cocky – just like on the bridge at QSA when talking to Bill. I hate that aspect of Eric. Don’t forget – Eric tried to take Bill out earlier on this season and so did Pam. They are no angels as well.

If I do stick with S4, it will only be for Bill. The other storylines do not excite me. I only want to see Bill’s redemption.

Anyhow, on a lighter note HAIL KING BILL! HAIL KING STEPHEN for winning the Battle of the Fangs! Our boy sure has a lot of fans to outbid Alex! I, for one, can’t wait to see Alex in a T-shirt of Stephen’s choosing! I also want to thank both Alex and Stephen for being such good sports with this Battle and am so glad that nearly $70,000 was raised between them for their charities! Well done to everyone concerned!

    Hi Nia,

Eric made a promise to his father to avenge his family. I think the Eric/Godric argument at the construction site showed human emotions in Eric. I do think Eric needs to get over his vendetta with Russell. They are even now. Deep down I do not think any better as a result of his revenge. Eric is torn, he feels he would be letting down his human family. On the other hand, he disappoints Godric. For a long time Godric liked revenge. In the 1940’s he was helping Eric track down his families murderer. For 1,000 years Godric taught Eric one thing. In the end, he told him the complete opposite. Yes, that might have been Eric’s conscience and not really Godric’s spirit. Defintely, Eric has this internal struggle. Eric is not just fond of Pam he loves her deeply. Pam can dish it just as well. Eric spoilers her rotten. He would never allow her to be a scapegoat for him. If Pam really wanted to leave, I think Eric would let her go. Sometimes he does take out his frustrations on her. He knows she will always be there for him vice versa. We still don’t know the full extent of their relationship.

Maybe next season AB will explore Bill’s lineage. I found that interesting in the books. I’d like to see a flashback of Bill/wife before the war when they were happy. We never get to see pleasant flashbacks. He still has a lot to teach Jessica about being a vampire. If by some chance Jess changes Hoyt, Bill will have a lot on his plate there. Plus the witch war. Contgrats to Stephen for winning the “Battle of the Fang”! I haven’t seen the T-shirt. I’ll have to look that up.

Hello Nia, Lizzie, Caitlin. I do agree with most of what all of you have stated here. I personally think Sookie needs to be by herself for a while to sort things out and find herself and about herself before she has a relationship with anyone at this point.

While Godric (spirit/memory) was disappointed by Eric for his actions, Eric did note that. He quickly rethought his actions about killing him and wanted Russell brought into Fangtasia. He was even willing to go out and get him himself despite risking being burnt to a crisp again. So while Eric may have not learned the whole lesson (he did encase RE in cement as revenge), he at least learned part of it and that’s a beginning at least. And, I agree, he has to let go of this vendetta against RE now. The score is settled now, move on. Although we’ll be seeing RE at the second half on next season from spoilers already out. I think Sookie will have a positive affect on Eric over time. Godric did want Sookie to look after him.

What scares me about Bill is that his love and protection for Sookie has turned obsessive and addictive. Reminds me of the high school boyfriend you tell your daughter to stay away from because he wants to keep you away from all of your relatives and friends and to only have him in your life in the name of love and protection. No one would want that for their daughter. He already wants to kill Eric, RE, QSA and Pam right now for having tasted Sookie or knowing what she is. What’s next, he’ll want to kill Jason, Hadley and Hunter because they are related to Sookie and may know what Sookie is too in the name of protecting her??? Bill’s protection is turning scary. He’s already killed Uncle Bartlett for some things done 20 years ago to Sookie that Sookie reprimanded Bill for. That frightens me.

Just as Lorena has molded Bill, Godric has molded Eric for the last 1,000 years and then pulls the rug from under him the day before he wants to meet the sun and tells him “Oops, sorry Eric, I was wrong all along”. This is all Eric knew for the last 1,000 years. It’s going to take some time to rethink the last 1,000 years and evolve and change for the better.

The Rattray question is a good one. I guess we’ll find out that answer to that next season. The assissin question is a good one too. Another question for next season.

I don’t think Eric would have drained Sookie. Was he being a pig ingesting too much blood, probably, but he wouldn’t have drained her.

I think you are right Nia, there is something more about Bill we don’t know yet. Too many unanswered questions. I still think he is connected to the AVL or the Authority, but we’ll have to wait and see on that one also next season. The Bill and Claudine conversation hopefully will be addressed in S4 too. Bill was gone 5 hours. What happened in those 5 hours??

Yes, there were lies from all vamps. That’s what they do, I guess. It’s the degree of the lie and how much one is willing to forgive that is the key here. Some can be more easily forgiven than others.

I also believe Bill will continue to protect Sookie for eternity as he has done so throughout all of the books in one way, shape or form.

Don’t forget we still have to meet Selah, and whoever else AB decides to put in Bill’s life after Sookie.

I am also looking forward to the Sookie/Alcide hook up but I don’t want a rebound relationship. I hope they wait with the S/A and/or the S/E hookup until Sookie is more stable and finds herself. Unfortunately, the S/A relationship will be tainted by the Debbie drama and unfortunate situation that will occur forever tainting the S/A romance, if AB goes that route.

If witches are involved next season, it’s going to be a good season. Spells, potions, magic. Who will break Russell out of the cement, I’ll guess a witch.

    This should be good.

Congrats also to SM for winning the Battle of the Fang contest. Glad both could be good sports for such a great charity.

      Antonio the Wolf Man

Wow! Another Great and Pensive post,Jaxx!
It looks at This point,That from here on All Sookie could Have would be a rebound relationship! Shes SO broken up over Bill that “rebounding” into someone else’s arms may be ALL she can do at This point! Its Never a good idea and usually there are hurt feelings involved. I’m hoping that she begins to explore her feelings for Eric Next season. She Does care for him,Even Only a little,Because If she Truly despised him she would have let him fry out there! She gave him Her blood, too! I laughed when Eric wiped his lips and then licked his finger after ingesting Sookie’s blood Hes So Cocky and yet I’m growing to like him More and More! LOL
I’d hope for a Sookie/Eric hookup or at least a deeper friendship.
I Agree with You About Bill 1000% Jaxx!!
His “love” for her has become Warped and twisted I think!
He has Now become Obsessed and Overprotective!!
      Red Flag…Sooks!! LOL
This is Why I penned the nick “Stevil” for him!!
Hes obviously devolved into a more feral, vindictive vampire.
Although,I must admit I Like this “darker” side of Bill!
I like This More agressive side to Sookie, too!
There was Another side shown of Eric and Pam,too!
I’m glad that Tara is moving on! She Needs That!!
I’m hoping for S/E Next Year!!
Alcide would be good for her, too…But He has Issues as well!
      like Debbie.
Besides Alcide HATES Vampires and Sookie was with them…I dont know How he will feel about That??
And Sookie has Never dated a Werewolf before…So I Dont know how She would handle That??

Sookie,When You get back from “fairyworld” or Wherever Please Give Eric a Call!!
      This is just MHO
      Thanx again Jaxx

      Nia

Hi Jaxx , its been a while since we debated but time is my enemy so I will answer this as quickly as possible (I am even laughing as I write this, quickly…ha) then be finished.

***While Godric (spirit/memory) was disappointed by Eric for his actions, Eric did note that. He quickly rethought his actions about killing him and wanted Russell brought into Fangtasia. He was even willing to go out and get him himself despite risking being burnt to a crisp again. So while Eric may have not learned the whole lesson (he did encase RE in cement as revenge), he at least learned part of it and that’s a beginning at least***

I have to disagree with you Jaxx, this is an incorrect assessment of the eventual conclusion to the situation. Godric was disappointed in Eric again, seeing that Eric could not let go of his hate towards RE. Even faced with his own death, Eric could not forgive, and when Godric said to Eric that RE would find peace in death THAT is when Eric wanted to bring RE into Fangtasia, so that he can now bring about a plan that would cause RE to SUFFER more, not to die and find peace. Eric is still inflicting punishment here, not letting go of his hate and finding resolution, there will be no peace, love and forgiveness just as Godric was afraid of. This is the lesson that has yet to be learned by Eric. It is a great character flaw not to be able to accept this.

***What scares me about Bill is that his love and protection for Sookie has turned obsessive and addictive. That frightens me.***

Again Jaxx I disagree with your assessment of the situation. Bills love and protection of Sookie is born first of pure love and as I said earlier, probably with guilt thrown in to the mix. (Oh and when did Bill say to stay away from relatives and friends? Bill wanted to go fishing with Jason and was happy when Sookie talked of double dating, so your statement to this effect is completely unfounded).
To say that you are scared of Bill because of this doesn’t make sense. The only ones who need to be wary of Bill are “vampires” that may be pose a threat to Sookie because of the knowledge of what she is. Is it obsessive to want to protect someone you love? It is the only thing that Bill can do for Sookie at this point.
Why would Bill want to hurt relatives or other humans who may know what Sookie is? You seem to be reaching for straws here Jaxx. Bill clearly said that he would protect her from those that know what she is because he knows they will want her for her blood and they will not be able to control themselves and they will drain her dry. Humans will not drain her dry for her blood. So that really does not make any sense at all. It is only the vampires with this knowledge that are a direct threat to her.

Bill killed Uncle B for Sookie because he was still thinking as a vampire and meeting out justice for her in the vampire way. Not only was this his first act of redemption, avenging Sookie but also he was acting out justice to a child molester. I believe there was something personal in this as well. We know how much Bill loves children. We saw this so wonderfully with his own children, also with Arlenes children as well as the fact that he opened up his heart and told Sookie that he would love to teach young children. So the look on Bills face after Sookie told him about her mentally and emotionally painful past with Uncle B (season 1, tub scene) said it all. He wanted to avenge her and take out a child molester in the process (Also Sookie took him to task for it when she found out.I think Bill learned a very human lesson there).
If you think this is awful, do you condone the unspeakable acts of cruelty and torture that Eric did to those who sold V or committed other crimes? I believe you applauded him for it and used the excuse that it was vampire justice. So, well tit for tat here.

*** I don’t think Eric would have drained Sookie. Was he being a pig ingesting too much blood, probably, but he wouldn’t have drained her.***

How do you know? Even Sookie asked Bill to stop him ahead of time knowing full well Eric would not be able to stop, and Bill did have to stop him.

***Just as Lorena has molded Bill, Godric has molded Eric for the last 1,000 years and then pulls the rug from under him the day before he wants to meet the sun and tells him “Oops, sorry Eric, I was wrong all along”. This is all Eric knew for the last 1,000 years. It’s going to take some time to rethink the last 1,000 years and evolve and change for the better.***

This is possible Jaxx, but remember that in WWII we saw Godric try to reign in Erics emotions when dealing with his vendetta. Godric was trying to teach him even then something different. But Eric did not want to listen, and Godric was dismayed by this lack of understanding on Erics part.
As to the 900 or so years they were together we really do not have any more information as to what occurred during that time.
There is of course an inconsistancy in regards as to when Godric and Eric saw each other last. We saw them together in WWII but Eric told Lorena that he had not seen Godric for “Longer than that” which meant longer than 70 years. I don’t know if this is just a discrepancy on the writers part or if Eric has decided that the time spent hunting his vendetta is one that he continued to hide from everyone. Could it also be that Godric purposely stayed away from Eric and vise versa because they disagreed about how to treat humans and the vendetta? Again we need more information.

Well this again has again taken way to much of my time but I did enjoy it.
      Take care.

        jaxx

Hello Nia, yes it’s been awhile hasn’t it. We do see things differently, don’t we. LOL. Some final thoughts…..

I think Eric rethought what Godric said to him. He came back into Fangtasia and told everyone much to their dismay that he wanted to bring RE back in even though they told Eric to let him rot outside. While Eric did not totally learn Godric’s complete lesson, he at least spared RE’s life which is part of what Godric wanted Eric to do. That’s more than what Eric intended to do in the first place. Does Eric need work, sure he does, but this is a small start in the right direction, imo.

It was a nice dream of Bill and Sookie’s to go fishing with Jason, but as we saw, Bill’s anger toward Jason after Sookie left for Fangtasia on her own, was enough for Jason to rescind Bill’s invitation to his house. I think Jason is seeing the red flag as well now with Bill. Hadley would be a threat as she was with the queen for a long time and knows a lot of the behind the scenes information that could be dangerous to all vamps in the future, including Bill. This was my train of thought on this particular topic.

To me, it’s the degree of protection Bill gives Sookie that makes the situation obsessive and scary. It’s the lengths Bill goes to protect Sookie that is bothersome to me.

How do we know Eric would not have stopped drinking from Sookie on his own? Eric’s expression when he was done feeding from Sookie was priceless. A couple of dabs on each side of his mouth. That was cocky if anything and didn’t seem to indicate he couldn’t stop at all. It indicated just the opposite to me. Someone who was in control. Sookie was just nervous considering what Bill did to her previously and she mentioned that looking right at Bill. IMO, Bill stopped Eric from drinking from Sookie for Bill’s sake, not that Sookie was in any danger of Eric taking too much.

Nice debating with you Nia. Take care and hope your family is doing well. 🙂

          ~ Caitlin

          Hi jaxx,

I hope Hadly doesn’t end up dying in the show or becominng a creature of the night. Sookie/Jason lost to much family already. That is another thing I don’t think Jason knows Sookie saw Hadly.

In my opinion, Bill is the more dominant one in their relationship. It seems as though Sookie stands up for herself more when she is with Eric. Eric knew Sookie could handle herself that is why he left her with chained up Russell. I agree jaxx, Sookie didn’t really think Eric would lose control. In fact, She started to say, “Eric would never…” when Bill talked about killing Eric. I think Bill twisted his reasoning for trying to get Eric out of the picture, just as he has done in the past when he has lied to Sookie. Everytime Sookie confronts Bill with something he tries to talk his way out of it. He always follows it up by professing his love for her and then she usually caves. Even after Bill admitted to killing Eric/Pam Sookie went to Bill. We all know Bill loves Sookie. He also lies to protect his secrets.

I love Gordic, but he is no saint either. For years he was he** bent on making humans suffer as a part of revenge. When Godric was human he was treated deplorably. Godric passed some of his wrong ideals onto Eric. When Godric was 1,000 years old he still was seeking revenge. Godrics only been dead a couple of weeks so Erics on emotional overload. It wasn’t the smartest thing to put Russell in cement when Eric knows he will get out eventually. Even when Eric put Russell in cemment, I think he was having doubts. Who knows what will happen when Russell is set free?

          lizzie1701

Oh, also, I don’t think Jason sees a Red Flag irt Bill. Jason had just told Tara that it was, in fact, him, that killed Eggs and Jason was feeling like crap. Then Bill turns up and asks where Sookie is. Jason does not know, as he has been wallowing hin his own misery and Bill took him to task and made him feel inadequate (remember the hospital where Jason could not accept responsibility?) So poor Bill was the catalyst for Jason’s thoughts of inadequacy and that is why he rescinded Bill’s invitation. No red flag imo.

Also, I don’t think that Bill is the dominant one in that relationship. I mean, we have watched for 3 years Sookie screeching, screaming and yelling orders to poor Bill. She is doing the same to Alcide and will be doing the same to Eric. Sookie is a control freak!

        Ashera

Hi Nia and Jaxx, I also reacted to your debate, thought I’d hit reply here, but I did not, it’s up top 😉

          jaxx

Hi Ashera. Your comment is there on the 2nd page. I did read it. It’s great to have so many takes and opinions here. That’s what makes this site so great. Looking forward to more of your comments in the future. 🙂

          Ashera

Hey Jaxx, glad you found it! I’m sure ill comment again in the future, sometimes I have trouble putting my thoughts on ‘paper’, then I read something here and just have to respond and give my 2 cents :p

Sam

Okay, here’s the end-of-season squishy moment that the finale triggered for me.

I love that there is a community of people who take the time to write in and offer their point of view on TB. I don’t always agree with what’s said (though often I do). Sometimes the comments give me an “aha!” moment by pointing out something I missed, or give a different interpretation, and that’s so wonderful.

And not to get all Zen on you all or anything, but beyond the pure fun I have with this show’s over the top energy and great one-liners, I really like the deeper currents. I imagine we all interpret shows through our own life experiences, and this season has triggered some intense conversations with my daughter about exploring ones true nature, and what drives us/what we’re looking for in relationships.

And lastly, some of the finest moments this season for me have been wordless. It’s been the look in the character’s eyes. Bill’s wonderful shifty-guilty look, as well as his torment; Lafayette softening and letting down his defenses; Tara’s look leaving her mother in the finale; Jessica’s beatiful glow and Hoyt’s gentleness; Eric’s transtions from harsh to soft, passionate to cool and controlled. I could go on and on.

The finale didn’t disapoint me. It didn’t leave me with that giddy True Blood high that feels so good. It left me a little sad. There was a lot of pain there for everyone. For me, I thought it was an appropriate end for a roller-coaster season.

    ~ Caitlin

A lot of the characters seem to be traveling down dark paths. I also love the subtle things in the show like Eric’s shifty eyes, Pam rolling her eyes, the way Russell moves his charred hand when he talks about Sookie being a rose, Lala fiddling with his durag like it’s hair, Terry clapping his hands etc… Those little things add up. The attention to detail enhances the show. I’m glad you brought that up.

shaz

Shall start with what I really like about the finale:

– Sookie has shown, at least twice during the episode that she, in Bill’s words “has feelings” for Eric. Some may argue it’s the blood but this nicely paves the way for what I feel is the long-awaited exit from Bill.

– Russell Edgington. Priceless flair and lines as usual but I would like to attribute this to Denis O’Hare for making the villain so lovable.

– I really like how AB has worked in the backlash from Russell’s psychotic turn on tv with the Fellowship of the Sun story running in the background.

Things I’m neutral about:

– ok I know the finale’s ending deviates from S01 and S02 but I see it as many cliffhangers rather the lack of one huge one. I can’t fault AB for this cos of the different places the characters are in and there doesn’t seem to be a way to tie them neatly together. Perhaps the introductory of the witches could have done it but with so much going on, I can’t see how it could have been squeezed without distracting from the current unresolved stories.

– Alcide. Frankly, I feel there was a need (a storyline) for Alcide to have a reason to stay on for S04. I know the reason for him hanging around in the books but here, I see him just drifting in and out without purpose.

Things I wasn’t thrilled about:

– Evolvement of some characters are puzzling. I say this not as a book fan. Didn’t understand and didn’t like how Sookie took delight in emotionally torturing Russell by pouring Talbot down the sink. This was completely uncharacteristic of Sookie, especially after Russell had told her Talbot was the love of his life. Also when Bill was explaining away his part in killing off all who fed on her, Sookie had looked as if she was moved and about to forgive Bill AGAIN. This is despite the Russell betrayal and that she had some misgivings on trusting Bill.

– Bill’s sudden willingness to eliminate all those in his way to “protect” Sookie. I mean, he has been harping so much on retaining his humanity and such. Granted that Eric and Pam aren’t human but they had after all stood on the same side to fight Russell and Bill could never have defeated Russell by himself.

– Jason’s fleeting ambitions. I’m getting mixed signals here. Jason started the season wanting to make something of his life and we see him trying (half-heartedly)and then because of a chick, he abandons that and decides to be a surrogate something … to a bunch of strangers?

– Sam. Speechless. I question the necessity of making his character go all dark and diabolical.

Overall, I wouldnt say that the finale was a disaster but more of a slight let-down from the build-up of what I thought was a very exciting season.

Eric getting Bill to confess was an about time moment. Sometimes we forget that Eric is a sheriff – his job is to investigate and keep tabs on all vampires in his area. He put 2 and 2 together easily enough. Many viewers thought the same thing after season 2 and Eric saying “you fed her your blood on the very night you met” “how convenient” so he questioned Bill and asked him. If Bill had not tried to kill him and Pam and anyone else that knows about Sookie then he probably would have waited for the truth to come out eventually – Eric too can feel how Sookie feels and I’m sure it hurts him too and that he can’t comfort her.

The Fae are not all sweetness and light! They are fierce creatures and sometimes a little evil. That was the Fae coming out in Sookie as she drained Talbot down the sink. I adored Talbot. Love the KoM character too.

Ok off to read all the comments!

Cheers

Wow, tough crowd here and on the internet re this episode. I wasn’t going to comment yet, but I feel I have to defend this episode and this show at this point. I personally liked it. I give it an A-. Nice review Janie. I agree for the most part. While we didn’t have the “WOW” factor at the end of S3 like we did with S1 and S2, we did tie up a lot of questions and loose ends from as far back as S1. We are now ready to move forward with this story.

As Tara moved on, so shall we. I wish Tara a lot of happiness in S4, she needs a fresh start and new plot for her please.

The weakest storyline of them all is Jason’s this year. I was hoping his cliffhanger would be that he was kidnapped by Felton and Calvin (still wondering if Calvin is really dead. He had a lot of vamp blood and weres heal fast too.) Maybe they’re saving Jason being kidnapped for S4. If AB follows book 4 as he followed a good part of book 3 (thank you AB), Jason’s storyline will begin to pick up.

As for Jesus and Laf, I don’t trust Jesus. We know he’s a witch so I can just imagine him putting spells on Ruby to find out more about Laf and then try to get close to Laf for his special powers, which I think are that he sees all the bad people try to hide about themselves. I think we’ll find out later that Tara has powers too since they are cousins. Just speculating here though.

Jess and Hoyt are the bright light this season, but Summer and Maxine want to extinguish that light. Where did the doll come from?? Summer?? Maxine?? Is it a warning?? Voodoo?? Is Summer a witch too. Is she mixed up in something as well?? Seems like TB is the portal for all supernatural beings to enter and leave from.

I’m having a hard time with the new Sam. Loved the old nice, stable, sweet Sam. I realize he’s been on his own since he was 15 and had to survive anyway he could on his own but I’m just not liking where this going. I don’t think he killed Tommy, just shot in in the arm or leg to prove his point but I could be wrong about that.

The hard part about this show is that in the books Sookie is the protagonist. We see things through her eyes only. In TB, these characters take on a life of their own. They are regulars so that just don’t pop in and out like in the books. They need storylines of their own. Please AB and writers, work a little harder on the secondary character’s storylines next year. 🙂

Love, love, love Russell. He is a show stopper and stealer and has the best oneliners and come back lines this year. Even toasted as a marshmallow, he made me laugh out loud. I think Russell has a connection to the dark magic and the witches since he has Celtic background. I think the witches will be the one to get Russell out of the cement grave next season. Just speculation on my part though.

Love the return of Alcide and am very much looking forward to seeing more of him in S4. I think there will be a Sookie/Alcide hook up in S4 as well.

Ok, now onto the main vamps…..

Well we all knew this was coming. We all knew Bill had darker secrets than the ones already exposed but this one caught me off guard with the Rattrays. I suspected there must be some connection with them. Vamps are seldom late. Bill was late meeting Sookie that night, now we know why. Kudos to AB for this element of surprise. In the books, there was the edict by the queen, AB added another element of surprise for us book readers. Good job. I like his added version. There were lots of gasps from the people at our TB party and we all read the books. 🙂

So the secret is finally out. Let Sookie begin to heal. Can’t blame her for not trusting any vamps at all anymore and rescinding all their invitations (another thank you to AB for following the books here too). I can’t blame Eric for calling out Bill. Eric had enough. He knew what Bills’ motives were and kept silent for a long time encouraging Bill to come clean on his own several times. He wanted him to tell Sookie the truth once and for all and let the chips fall where they may. I think Eric showed great restraint in not killing Bill for offering a gesture of friendship and then betraying him and wanting to kill Pam as well. Shows great maturity on Eric’s part. Maybe he did learn a lesson from Godric after all. And, Eric hated to hurt Sookie by telling her the truth. He gave her a heartfelt apology as well for hurting her but she needed to know the truth about Bill. Eric will protect Sookie and his affection for her will continue to grow. I do want Sookie to have her shot with Eric and let’s see what happens.

And, yes, even covered in concrete, Eric is hot.

I think Bill has actually gone mad. I believe he also actually fell in love with Sookie. He started to lose control, become overly possessive like an obsessive boyfriend wanting to eliminate everyone who has had her blood and keep her all to himself. Bill was becoming very frightening, even to Sookie. It had to end.

Poor Terry. He has no idea what he’s in for with Arlene and a demon child. He’s the sweetest thing this season and I just adore him.

All in all, I think S3 was the best season so far. Loved most of the episodes and the writing was very good this year. I hope S4 also follows the heart of the books as much as it did in S3. 9 longs months to go. What will we do???

    JMarleyboo

Given how good the rest of the season was, I thought the S3 finale was somewhat of a let down. It seemed like they tried to cram a 2 hour show into an hour. Too many story lines for one show. And the whole bit with Godric as an apparition was a bit over the top for me.

My thoughts on each of the characters.

Sophie Anne. Well we all know that Sophie Anne is going to die – I saw the actress on a preview for a new HBO series starting in 2011 — so not much of a cliff hanger there.

Sookie. Her behavior in the last episode was a bit over the top – even for her character. The pouring of poor Talbot down the garbage disposal – really. Talbot wasn’t such a bad vampire after all. His entrails didn’t deserve that!
As far as the fairy thing goes, I’m not sure that I am going to like it. I did read the whole series of books and I find the fairy storyline a bit boring.

Bill. I did like seeing a bit of a darker side of Bill. His turning on Eric and throwing him into the cement was the most surprising and to me, the best part of that episode. Now that Sookie has recinded his invite (along with all the other Vamps), it will be interesting to see what they do with him next season. In the books, Bill does have another girlfriend… who knows…..

Sam. Well Sam has been the good guy up until a few episodes ago. I like the “good” Sam. Hopefully he will be back next season. I don’t think that he killed his brother – again, not much of a cliff hanger there either. I think he’ll be back to being a nice guy next season and I also believe Tommy will be back.

Tara. She’s last seeing driving off into the sunset so to speak. A bit cliche don’t you think?? I think she’s just taking some time to clear out her head, but she’ll be back.

Jason and Crystal. I really didn’t like what they did with Jason this whole season. That whole “Hot Shot” community takes “red neck” to an extreme. I think he’s a very good actor and they could do much more with him. I also think that as he is in the books, he will be turned into a were panther next season.

Hoyt and Jessica. Looks like Hoyt’s crazy mama’s gonna put an end to Jess before the marriage even starts! Not really. I don’t think they will kill off her character just yet.

Russell – Aside from Eric, I think Russell is my favorite character. I’m happy to see that he didn’t meet the true death this season. Obviously they have left the door open for him to come back — either next season or season 5??

Eric. My favorite character on the show. I like his blend of humor and wickedness! And of course he’s not too hard on the eyes either. As I said earlier, I really didn’t enjoy the whole thing with Godric on the finale. For next season, I was hoping he’d hook up with Sookie. This would be the season to do it – with the witches (as he does in the books). I don’t think Alan Ball will go in that direction with their characters though. Remains to be seen what happens with Eric – – I’m just happy he’s still on the show. Was getting concerned because Alexander Skarsgard is doing some movies and I thought he might quit to move on to bigger and better things.

Alcide. Love his character too. He’s really the poster child for the good guy. Maybe he and Sookie hook up next season…

      Sandy

The news I’ve heard (here in fact) is the 3 main actors Alex, Stephen and Anna all have 7 year contracts for the show.

Even if his contract was up he knows this show has done so much for his career – can’t see him leaving the cast/crew in the lurch like that as he is able to do other things when not working on TB! Just my own speculation – not like I speak for him.

All of the cast and crew seem to love the show and not just contractually but really love working on it.

Was to much crammed into this season – yes! Wish they would keep the main characters together so the story lines arent all over the place. Laf and Jesus being a form of supes themselves (Jesus isnt a witch I don’t think but think Laf will be something along those lines – voodoo/witchcraft) which is a sign that “a witch war” would make many of our fav’s be all together (dead – sorry couldnt resist) for season 4.

      Cheers
      Sandy

        ~ Caitlin

I also hope that the characters come together more next season. A lot of the characters are unaware of what is going on with each other. Tara/Sookie don’t know about Lala. I don’t think Lala knows what happened with Tara/Franklin. I don’t think Sookie even knows Sam has a brother etc… They all need time fill each other on some stuff that has transpired. I enjoyed this season though. I think some stuff was dragged out to long (werepanther/Bill revelation). Dead to the World sticks more to Bon Temps so I think everyone will be together more.

          jaxx

That was a little disappointing for me also. I thought everyone’s story was going to intertwine. I really didn’t see any intertwining yet. Are they saving it for S4???? And with the witches in BT and I’m presuming the witch war from the books, the characters will have to band together again like in S2. Maybe then everyone will find out what everyone else has been up to. Don’t forget S2 was a 2 week duration and S3 was about 2 to 3 weeks or so in duration. Does Sookie even work as a waitress in Merlotte’s anymore? LOL. It’s been ages since we’ve seen her working there. I wonder if she knows about the new dark Sam and what she will think. Does she know Arlene is pregnant?? Does she know about Laf and Jesus?? The girl has to catch up and I’m hoping in S4’s 1st episode, everyone will find out about everyone else. Good point Caitlin.

          P. S. AB, please don’t make Sookie come from outerspace aliens. The Fae is one thing but no campy Mars type aliens.

          ~ Caitlin

I don’t think I really like idea that faes are aliens either. I think AB said he got the idea from a show on the history channel. Terry/Arlene deserve a raise. It seems like they are the only ones who go to work. Even Sam wasn’t at work much. I guess it has only been two weeks though. Maybe one good thing about darker Sam, is that he’ll make everyone come to work. He could give Jessica more to do at Merlottes. Sam’s storyline didn’t really seem to intertwine with the others. Does Laffy even need to be selling V anymore because Eric is no longer concerned with QSA. Eric didn’t like selling the V in the first place. Aslo, Jessica should be more invovled with the vampire world next season. Most of the time she is left out of the loop.

    ~ Caitlin

    Hi jaxx,

Once again I agree with your comments. I liked the episode. It seemed more of a setup for next season though. Definitely, I think Russell is connected to black magic. Yes, he was a ancient Celt/druid. I think some of his Nazi weres might be witches. They will be going through withdrawl so they will want to find Russell in order to get their fix. Just a thought. Russell said his wolves are coming for him. He said Eric would pay. They did an excellent job with Denis’s prosthetic/makeup in the finale. He looked creepy.

I found it interesting that Russell thought he could bring Talbot back to life. I find that concept is intriguing. The witches next season are supposed to be necromancers. They can control and raise the dead. What if they can bring vampires back from the true death? Wouldn’t that be insane?

I’d love to see some Eric/Godric flashbacks next season. I just want to see more of Godric in any form. Maybe, a flashback from Eric’s childhood. He’ll probably reflect more on the past when he gets amnesia. If the witches really wanted to torture Eric they could somehow use visions of Godric to wound him.

I have a feeling Summer is going to be “fatal attraction” crazy. That did look like her doll. Your right, it could have been a voodoo doll. I was not happy with Sam either.

At the beginning of the season, I liked the Jason stuff. I don’t like how Hotshot is portrayed. I was also wondering if Calvin really dead.

No, I do not trust Jesus. “Satan in a Sunday hat”. Jesus’s grandfather was determined to find him.

Bill sending a hit on Pam was a low blow. Eric was genuine when he held out his hand to Bill. I think Eric hit the nail on the coffin with his speech to Bill. For a second, I thought Sookie was going to get back with Bill. Also, Bill claimed to have nothing left to lose. What about Jessica? She still has a lot to learn about being a vampire.

I adore Terry and his armidillo named Felix! What a guy. Sadly, he seems to happy so something will come along to ruin it.

The fourth book (Dead to the World) is one of my favorites in the Stackhouse series. I hope next season exceeds my expectations.I think it will.

      jaxx

Hi Caitlin. Yes, I agree. Hmmm, necromancers. I wonder who’ll try’ll try to resurrect. So many characters have died. Calvin??Rene?? Talbot, especially if Russell has dark magic connections??? We don’t want this to become campy though. The writers have to be careful on this point.

Yes more Godric flashbacks. We need to see him from time to time especially if Eric is the one having amensia. That would be an interesting take on things.

Yes, Dead to the World was my favorite book also. I’m hoping AB and crew do as good a job with interpreting book 4 as they did with book 3.

~ Caitlin

I just had a thought. Russell drank a lot of Sookies blood so maybe he can enter the fae realm like Bill did, in his dream.

Sam

Just a few things…I think Sookie was so gleeful about putting Talbot’s remains in the disposal and tormenting Russell because she had just been revived with vampire blood. Her maniacal look reminded me of the wicked gleam she had when licking her bloody lips fighting with Debbie Pelt in an earlier episode (also full of vamp blood). Also, I think Eric could have found out about Bill letting Sookie be beaten by the Rattrays from Hadley, who heard it from the Queen. Just a guess there, but since Bill was working for QSA, I imagine he had to report in. And Hadley seemed to be QSA’s constant companion. And I imagine Eric had some time to question her while he was still at Russell’s. And for me, that revelation about the beating was the biggest shocker of the finale. I felt that one like a punch to the stomach!

    jaxx

I agree Sam. I think Hadley spilled the beans re the Rattrays as the Queen seemed to tell her everything and like you said, I’m sure Bill reported it to QSA.

That was a gasping moment and the most shocking revelation this year.

melissa

Bravo!!!!AB for giving us a good season finale I must say I absolutely love this show and the books as well and to me i will not compare the two because books will always be different from tv series/movies.
Some of my favorite lines came from this ep.

“Let the little fucker fry out there!”-Pam to Eric

“When am I not in trouble”-Sookie to Alcide

“Eric,Do not bring that thing in this bar again”-Pam to Eric

“Well thats humiliating!”-Eric to Russell

Let me write the rest of my review .
The Jesus and Laffeyette story is getting interesting. We know Jesus is some sort of witch/warlock. I wonder if Laffy is tbc til season 4.
Tara cut her hair and left town which that girl needs it.
Sookie is just fed up and stood up for herself for being manipulated and used. She needed to go to Fairytopia and forget Bill. His lies and deciet finally caught up to him. I dont blame her and Eric had every right to call Bill out on his lies and deciet. Im hoping we see Eric/Sookie love scenes in S4.
Hoyt and Jessica are too sweet. I love these too I can only imagine what Summer and Hoyts mama is up to.
All characters are developing very nicely and I give AB props for S3. Eric is a gangster imho but he is the lesser of the two evils. Alcide is cool by helping to cement Russell . Bill throwing Eric in a cement pit and trying to have Pam killed is despicable because Eric knew about Bill and Bill was trying to cover his ass by having Sookie not ever know the truth about him.
I have a feeling Jason is going to look for Crystal and may also be turned into a werepanther while in HotShott. Wow
Sam is starting to turn mean and crazy. I think he shot his own brother and will feel bad for what he has done.Poor Sam
AB bring on S4 just give us little hints so we dont have to wait sooooooooo long!

    ~ Caitlin

    Hi Melissa,

I also liked the finale even though there were not a lot of big cliffhangers. I wasn’t happy with some stuff that the characters did. The episode alluded to some stuff that is going to happen next season. In a prior episode, Sookie asked Eric to tell her the truth about Bill. Then, they were interrupted by Pam. Yes, I think Eric had a right to answer Sookie’s question. Bill wasn’t going to tell her the truth about his secrets. Partly, Eric told Sookie the truth to get back at Bill. Sookie did deserve to know the truth. I believe that Eric felt bad for Sookie. Yes, Eric has put Sookie in danger at times. However, he has saved her life several times. A lot of people are going to be coming after Sookie when they find out she is fae. It would be more benificial for Eric to be alive. He is an ally to Sookie.

I just hope the Hotshot storyline gets better because I’m not that thrilled with it. I thought Jason’s fellowship of the sun stuff was more interesting.

jackiwhitford

I thought the finale had too many characters and too many subplots. There was no clear cliffhanger. Sookie went to fairyland but we know she will be back. Russell will be back in the latter part of Season 4. Sophie Anne dies in the books so she will probably not win the Matrix battle in Bill’s house.

Now in the books we all know Bill is a selfish jackass, but he is not evil. Trying of kill Eric and Pam (with Eric’s assassin Ruben for wet work), and then Sophie Anne is just plain stupid. Sookie is right – she is vampire crack. Bill almost jumped Claudine for a taste in his fairy dream, and he made sure he was bonded to Sookie early in their relationship. Let’s hope Sookie stays away from Bill from now on.

In the books and on True Blood, Eric may be all business but he does care about and look after Sookie. I expect the first part of Season 4 to be about witches and the second half to finish off Russell.

Here are my favorite quotes from the finale:

“You f**king betrayed me. AGAIN.” (Sookie to Bill)

“About f**king time. Now drag me the f**k inside.” (Russell to Sookie)

“You watch your f**king language. “ (Sookie to Russell)
“Eric do the world a favor and let that little f**k fry.” (Pam to Eric about Russell.)

“..your word is worth about as much as t*ts on a turtle.” (Sookie to Russell)

“..I now know I am basically vampire crack.” (Sookie to Bill)

“I hope you two have finished eye-f**king each other. Can we go?” (Eric to Alcide and Bill)

“Go back to hell where you came from, you f**king, dead piece of sh*t.” (Sookie to Eric)

“Oh great. On top of everything else I am out an assassin.” (Eric to Pam)

I am going to slowly re-read the novels and stories again, then start with Season 1 and watch an episode a day. Nine months is a long time to wait for the new season.

I don’t feel that there were many big revelations in the finale. I did read a lot of spoilers and the books so that contributed to the lack of shock value.

I liked the Sam/Tara scene. Sams treatment towards Tommy really disappoints me. Yes, Tommy can be an a** at times. He looked so broken and defeated. Tommy didn’t deserve to be treated like that. Sam agreed to take on the responsibility of caring for Tommy. He knew that Tommy was emotionally/psychologically scarred. I thought that Sam could give him the stability and love he so desperately needs. Maybe, I was wrong in thinking that. I wish they could work things out. I doubt Sam killed him.

Oh! Lettie Mae. Husbands almost never leave their wives for the other woman.

Jessica and Hoyt were adorable as ever. It is apparent that something horrible is going to happen. Pan to the antique doll of death on the floor. My guess is that Maxine/Summer will try to kill Jessica. Hoyt will get in the way and Jessica will turn him. I do not want either of them to die. They are one of the only untainted couples on the show.

I still don’t know if I trust Jesus. They didn’t show his grandfather in the V trip for nothing.

It was heartbreaking to see the look of dissapointment on Godric’s face. Also, it was so sad when he vanished. If only Godric would have live, he could have help Eric. He was the only person who could keep Eric in line. I wonder if that was really Godric’s spirit or just Eric’s conscience

Bill was cut throat last night. I was a bit surprised when he tossed Eric in the cement. During that scene, I felt that Bill was going to do something to Eric. I am just glad that Eric/Pam’s fates weren’t left as a cliffhanger. I knew they weren’t going to die though. Bill crossed the line. It’s one thing to go after Eric, but sending a hit on Pam took it to a new level. Honestly, it made me cringe. Stephen did a marvelous job though. All of the actors and actresses did a wonderful job.

I’m sure partly Bill did want to protect Sookie. Mostly, he wanted to retain his secret. Also, he wanted to eliminate the competition. He knows Eric cares about Sookie. I do not believe that Eric would kill Sookie. Bill used the excuse that Eric wouldn’t be able to control himself after having Sookies blood. I do not believe that is true. Really, Bill is no better than Eric. I think that Eric did feel bad that Sookie was hurt but also he was getting back at Bill.

Even covered in cement, Eric looks handsome.

Poor Russell, I did feel sorry for him. He had it coming though. Eric should have let him rot. He is going to wreak havoc next season. I think Russell might be connected to the witches somehow. Maybe some of his Nazi weres practice black magic. Russell is an ancient Celt. Just a thought. Denis is so brilliant that I would love to see him back next season. Some of his scenes were hilarious.

Sookie really stood up for herself in this episode. She was really flirting with Alcide. She did have tons of vamp blood though and Alcides good looking.

Honestly, I didn’t care about Hotshot. I respected Calvin in the books, but didn’t like him in the show. Hopefully, Tara finds peace. I wonder where she wwas headed? She deserves a vacation.

Sadly, we have to wait a year for the next season. Where did the time go? The season of the witches sounds exciting.

“Something wicked this way comes! (Act IV, scene I)”
~Shakespeare’s Macbeth

Sorry my post was so long!

Drew Herring

I want to start off by saying that last night’s episode was a let down. I’m sorry, I absolutely LOVE the show and can’t get enough of it, but.. there was no cliffhanger!!!
Alan Ball left us with THESE “cliffhangers”?..

-Everyone, including people who haven’t read the books, knows where Sookie went. It makes me mad, cause they should’ve made it more interesting like maybe, Bill gets mad and drains her and she gets stuck in “Fairytopia” or where ever the hell she is. (That’s just my opinion)

-Bill is obviously going to win the fight between him and Sophie-Ann. Maybe Eric interrupts the fight or he badly hurts Sophie-Ann. We never know, but we now he wins. It’s True Blood.

-Eric is going to get some form of revenge on Bill, whether it be another kidnapping or whatever, we don’t know. Hopefully AB sticks to the fourth book storyline or somewhere close..

-Of course Russell will return, just not sure when. Duh! He was buried, not killed!

-Jessica and Hoyt’s cliffhanger was creepy.. I didn’t understand the whole concept with the weird doll. (At first, I thought it was a dead baby)

-Sam doesn’t shoot his brother of course, cause AB says he’s going to turn Bon Temps “upside down”. I guess he just shoots around him to scare him, or possibly injures him.

-I’m sorry, but Jason’s plot is just our-of-hand and quite annoying. He’s a waste of time, I always find myself wanting them to skip to important parts like with Sookie and Bill or something cool.

-Arlene needs to get rid of the baby if she doesn’t want it, Terry does not OWN her and it’s not his. Either you want a child or don’t, her storyline isn’t interesting.

-I couldn’t help but laugh at Tara’s haircut and how serious Sookie was about it. Honestly, was it necessary!? I wish something interesting would actually happen to her, instead of her being mad 24/7.

-Of course Jesus turned out to be something supernatural, I just don’t understand how his “magic” could transfer to Lafayette.. But season 4 is the “Season of Witches”! So be prepared!

These are just my opinions and predictions, and if you would like to discuss this further, contact me via twitter please!

I would like to add one thing to the comments I made….as much as I REALLY dislike Tara’s character, its a tribute to Rutina’s acting that that she can make me hate her and want to fast forward through someone so much, though I would prefer to “hate” her the same way I “hated” Franklin and Lorena lol

Tonerpoo

Last nights finale seemed more like a regular episode than a season cliffhanger.
I have to say Russell is one of my favorite characters!! That guy is hilarious and I’m going to miss him on the future TB’s.
I also agree with everyone about Tara. She is a complete downer. Everytime I see her on the the show I just cringe and think to myself; it’s a perfect time to get up and get a drink. Jason is no longer hot and endearingly dumb; he’s hot and annoyingly stupid. What’s the deal with Sam’s character? He was always the calm, dependable, lovable and reliable guy (ooops, I just described a collie!) and now he’s a psycho jerk! I LOVE the Hoyt and Jessica storyline!!! Hoyt’s mamma (I was waiting for her folding chair to bust :D) and Summer are awesome 🙂 I’m hoping Season 4 will bring the whole Eric/Sookie love scenes; the Sookie/Alcide love scenes (BTW – Alcide did mention Debbie missing..hmmmm) and maybe bring in Quinn!!!

Ashera

Ok so this has been the first episode of all the seasons where I didnt like anything Bill said and did..! He reminded me a lot of a little boy who has an older stronger brother (being Eric) he can’t compete with. Bill is so full of himself, for example, in the opening scene he says “I only pretended to betray you, bla bla, so that I could save you Again, and it worked Russell is gone..” then Sookie “Where is Eric?” Eric bound himself to Russell with silver.. Only way to kill the king.., well Bill that made me wonder; “So that I could save you again”?? You just went along with ERIC’s plan, he’s laying outside frying while you act all high and mighty safely inside! Isis, if thats not disresepctful, then Bill tries to stop Sookie from saving Eric (Bill would have been dead if not for Eric, I’ll give one example: If Eric didnt kill Talbot at the time he did, Russell would have snapped Bill like a twig) second, later on Bill wants to shake hands and Eric being sincere shakes and then Bill cements him and wants to have Pam killed! So what’s a little overhearing among friends? 😉 Even covered in cement, Eric looks damn good ^^ .. Anyway, Bill will do what is best for Bill (& Sookie in his way) and Eric will do what’s best for Eric (& Sookie in his way).. Oh and as for Eric knowing about the Rattrays, he already knew Bill wanted to get and got blood into Sookie asap, so its not hard to put 2 and 2 together when he found out about Bill and what Bill did in the beginning 🙂

Now over to Sookie, the thing I found a little strange was what she did with Talbot’s remains.. To me it’s not something she would do laughing like a mad woman.

Sam: I have to say takes a little getting used to, so I’ll see where it leads.. It is a shame tho, to see him like this.

Lafayette and Jesus: im very curious to see more! 🙂

Just a little more screentime for Pam in the future, I still felt a little glas half full..

Jason: hmm everything involving him is a little weird.

“Couldn’t they have put Hoyt’s mother in the cement with Russell?” lol, not a bad suggestion Shannon :p

Tara: I like the haircut! Ruttina plays her character very well! Sometimes Tara is just too much.

Alcide: looking forward to seeing more 🙂

Hoyt and Jessica: I enjoy their story!

Eric: I dont agree with things that affected his character directly and indirectly, but he is my fav! Love Alex and how he plays Eric! A little scared for what will happen, but bring on season 4!

I almost forgot the Sophie Anne / Bill ‘halloween fight’ scene with the ‘thriller’ claws, ridiculous imo.

Russel, what an awesome character and so well played by Denis O’Hare, glad we’ll get to see more of him!

I will rewatch season 3 and look forward to season 4, with all the frustrations and the things I love about this show in me :p

SookieNAlcide

Alan Ball should let Sookie and Alcide sex it up. It would be such a hot thing to see, because they are definitely feeling eachother. He’s so reassuring and strong, and endearing, and I don’t think Alcide would play any mind games with Sookie.

Shannon Byers

I was very disappointed in last nights episode. That scene with Sookie in the beginning reminded me of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I kept waiting for the music.

For me the best part was Sookie putting Talbot down the garbage disposal.. and declining a peanut butter and butter sandwich while Ginger washed the crystal “Talbot Goo” container… I really laughed at that.

I really wish they would make Tara’s character more interesting, I’m SO tired of her “whoa is me” crap, I really can’t stand watching it. I did like her new haircut though.

I also enjoyed Eric deciding to go against what Godric was trying to get him to do…that’s the cold blooded Eric I love, though I wasn’t impressed with doing away with Russell ala Jimmy Hoffa.

I HATE what they are doing with Sam, this schizophrenic thing going on just isn’t working for me.

Loved the part about Jessica & Hoyt moving in together, but I’m wondering about the significance of the doll laying on the floor?

Couldn’t they have put Hoyt’s mother in the cement with Russell?

I can’t wait to see how much of book 4 they use in season 4. I can understand a lot of the changes, and lots of them I love (keeping Lafayette and creating Jessica) but some of them just make no sense when you look at what’s supposed to happen in the books on down the line. I’ve really had to learn to appreciate TB as an “alternate universe” to the books.

I wish they could find a way to bring Franklin and Lorena back and put them together in their own show…THAT pairing would be WELL worth watching lol

    Isis Nocturne

“I wish they could find a way to bring Franklin and Lorena back and put them together in their own show…THAT pairing would be WELL worth watching lol”

LOL, I so agree! Those two, together and crazy, would make for an EXCELLENT tv show to fill the 9 months between each new season of True Blood! The “Franklin and Lorena Show” ftw!

JimT

The finale was a letdown. I am curious as to when it was written and filmed. It seemed to wrap up everything in a way that would be ending the series. Compared to the last two seasons where it really led had a cliffhanger that left us wanting more.
Let’s start with the main points.
1. Hoped Tara would meet the true death. I invented a drinking game to help me get through her scenes. The whole crying every scene was very tedious. Either put a bullet in your head or someone needs to slap you. The new hair scene had me rolling. Thanks for the laugh. And I don’t care where she is going.
2. Jason is an idiot. We get that but this season hardly even made him a loveable idiot like before. He’s just plain stupid. Don’t care if he is now helping out those inbreeds in Hotshot.
3. Loveably stupid is now Tommy. Still I don’t care if he can read or if he is dead.
4. Sam’s story line that he’s evil is only a couple episodes old and is already boring. He was the only good guy in the bunch. His past seems as boring as his future.
5. The last good guy left is Hoyt. That is the only storyline I really like because those two are loveable but it has nothing to do with the main plot.
6. Eric should have met the true death or as a better cliffhanger we should have been left thinking he was truly dead. But let me get this straight, you wait 1000 years to avenge you father but simply say that instead of killing Bill, the one who just left you in a vat of concrete to die, tattling on him is a fate worse than death. Really?
7. Bill obviously will kill SophieAnne or maybe cut her legs off like in the books. So no one cares or believes he will die.
8. Sookie is a fairy. We get that. We know she went to fairlyland. YAY! But not very interesting.
9. Unless the introduction of witches come to the front and the vamps take a backseat I hardly see how Lala’s storyline means anything.
Always great to see Alcide and they keep hinting at him and Sookie getting together but we know that’s not going to happen.
So for a series and a season that was all about shocking us, that finale wasn’t very shocking.
Questions: I know the Vamp league said they were not going to get involved with Eric and Russell but that was before the news incident. Where have they been in regards to Russell?
What is the deal with V? We’ve seen it heal, give you a bad trip, make you an amazing athlete, and let you have great sex. How does it do that and why not all these things every time? I guess if you’re beat up it heals and that is it. I guess if you want great sex or to be a great athlete it does only that with no bad trip?

    JimT

Instead of having to wrap up story lines in 12 episodes why couldn’t they have continued this with another cliffhanger episode?

Just an easy cop out if you ask me. No twists or surprises. Sad for a show that usually has it all.

      JimT

I forgot but agree that the whole arlene renee baby story line is dumb and a waste of film time. I guess you gotta keep some actors on the screen so they keep their guild cards or pensions?

Sharon

I really felt the ending was a big anti climax. The whole Bill revelation about his deception has been drawn out so long over the last couple of episodes that when it was finally revealed i there was no element of surprise or shock.
There are far to many side stories that are quite ludicrous and boring. Really, Jason is now the guardian of the Hot Shot community, how exciting!!! Why do they have to turn Sam into a murderer? He is supposed to be one of the most dependable and likable characters on this show and if they continue down this path, it will be harder for his character to redeem himself in the future.
The whole Arlene “evil baby ” story line is just rediculous, I suppose when the baby is born it will have horns like the devil and be carrying a pitch fork.
The main vampire storyline in this series is what really interests me, and because they bring in all these other silly storylines, it detracts from the shows main focus and I think the plot lines start to suffer. It is a shame because episodes 1 – 8 have been really good, and I had a lot of faith in the direction the series was being taken, but during the last few episodes I feel like I have been watching a poor soap opera.

However, I will be watching when the series starts again in June next year. I want to find out what happens between Jessica and Hoyt, I would like to know where they are going to take Bills character from here, I am hoping to see more of Eric and Alcide and now that Bill is out of the picture as far as Sookie is concerned, this ought to be interesting.

Ollie Chong aka AdoreBill

Hi Everyone!

I just want to mention something before everyone starts commenting to avoid any mud-slinging and hurtful comments. Everyone is allowed to mention the books but you are not allowed to argue that the TV show is wrong for not following the books. You can say things like it’s different than the books. On threads that are about the books it would not be appropriate to argue the books are wrong because they don’t follow the series. It’s one thing to point out that they are different but quite another to argue that one or the other is wrong.

With that said, lets have some great discussions about what happened on the season finale and speculate what might be going on. I personally found some scenes heart-breaking and felt that I was seeing the end of a beautiful relationship that developed between two individual who fell in love regardless of how they came together, the end result was true, deep love. Seeing that end hurts and makes me wonder what will happen on Season 4 of True Blood for my favorites. Regardless I will continue to watch not only for my favorites but because I love all the characters on the show and want to know what lies ahead for them in their journey towards happiness, acceptance, redemption etc. I know I will be watching some difficult scenes with a heavy heart but the themes that Alan Ball explores on the show and the different storylines will keep me coming back for more. 🙂

chrissy

Thrilling? That episode was a load of crap. Alan Ball has taken a great series of books and completely destroyed it.

    Ollie Chong aka AdoreBill

Ok lets discuss. What was disappointing for you? What could have been different? Just saying it was crap is not very informative. And please don’t say that it was wrong because it is not like the books. What was the problem you saw in the flow of the storylines in True Blood. 🙂

First of all, I AM allowed to be disappointed in the show because it doesn’t follow the books. To say I’m not is utterly ridiculous. I started watching the show because I was a fan of the series first. I AM pissed that I’ve seen bascially nothing of the plot lines that I loved the book.

Speaking of last nights Ep, it was completely anti-climactic. The was no cliffhanger ending other than, where did Sookie go? WHO CARES where she went. Half the viewers that I know think she’s an annoying twit. And their right.

The Bill vs. The Queen Vampire Kung Fu fight was laughable. Tara is a whiner, who honestly I’d wish they’d just kill off. Cannot stand her. Jason being the leader of Hotshot? He can’t even take care of himself. And Sam, omg. His suddenly back story makes absolutely NO sense and they’ve completely ruined his character.

        Leah

Chrissy, I completely agree with you! The only thing I LOVED about last night’s episode is they FINALLY brought that Bill was not who he seemed to be, FINALLY!! I was VERY, VERY happy to see Eric show back up on Sookie’s door step and call Bill out! Bravo for that scene, LOVED it! As for everything else, Layfayette and Jesus’ story line is getting VERY interesting! I am also very sick of Tara whining and crying, they’ve totally screwed up Sam’s character, and the story line of Hot Shot. And the cliff hanger? WTF??? I also wish people would lay off of us people who read the books. We are allowed to be a bit disappointed! If it were not for those books, there would be NO True Blood. With that said, I do still love the show and I have just learned to TOTALLY separate the books from show at this point. I was pleasantly surprised they stayed true to the story line of Eric, Sookie, and Bill. Happy for that at least! :)) Much love to all my fellow Trubies!! No disrespect intended on anything I said :)) Peace out!! 🙂

Leah, you didn’t find it suspicious at ALL for that perfect timing? That to me reads of Eric eavesdropping, which is disrespectful to say the least. It shows he has no respect for private conversation and feels nothing about sharing information that he has no right to share. Yes, Bill was in the wrong for not telling Sookie about his real associations with Sophie-Anne, but Eric had absolutely NO right to do what he did.

Personally, I was upset by the continued lack of continuity for the characters and previous events. BTW, HOW does Eric know about the Rattrays? He didn’t know Sookie at the time. Plus, it wasn’t the first night Bill and Sookie met. It was the second.

          Midge

Isis, I think the reason Eric even told in the first place was because Bill almost had him and Pam killed. He could have told Sookie earlier when he called Bill out for being a liar in an earlier episode, but he didn’t. I’m just happy Eric didn’t kill Bill instead, especially since he had every reason to. I prefer a sad and lonely Bill than a dead one.

My thoughts on how Eric might have known about the Rattrays was maybe the Queen told him? If Bill was sent to procure Sookie, then wouldn’t he have to report to the Queen and tell her about his progress? Eric could have learned about it at the same time he learned Sookie was a fairy. Although that doesn’t explain how he seemed to know about it at the end of season 2. Plot hole maybe? Or maybe some more secrets to come?

          Isis Nocturne

Midge, my thing is that we can say just as much about what a liar Eric is as well as Bill. I can’t find either of them to be a choice mate for Sookie. As for Sookie, I just find her to be way too hypocritical in her actions, and I REALLY disliked the way she tortured Russell.

Basically, I’m not thrilled with any of the characters right now… Though True Blood remains my favorite show on television.

Chrissy I completely agree with you too. I forgot about that matrix fight at the end. How silly and lame. And I will bet money that Sookie went to fairy land. SHe is a fair and was touching all the fairy hands…even if I am wrong who cares?

I was excited for this season and most episodes were spot on but this was a big misstep for alan ball. at this point I’m not sure if even after 9 months I will be excited for season 4.

The Bill vs Queen matrix fight was laughable. Who ok’d that in editing? I busted out laughing at how bad it was. I immediately thought of the scene from “Scary Movie”. i still love the show, but each season I get less and less interested.

AB made Bill a serial killers that loves to kill. Bill in the books was not serial killer at all. Bill really believes in his lies that he killing all these vampires to protect Sookie and Eric was right that he did it to protect himself not Sookie.

Bill in the books would never tried to kill Eric and Pam at all and on the show he sure did. I separate the show from the book and I glad that AB is changing the stories to make his own.
