True Blood Finale: A Look Back on… The Sex Scenes

What Would You Rate as the Best and Worst Sex Scenes in HBO’s True Blood?

Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) get intimate in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 (entitled 'Love is to Die')It’s hard to pick just a few stand out sex scenes in HBO’s True Blood – considering just how many have been dished up to us over the last seven years. But, after much research, here’s my top six list:

  1. BEST: Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) finally get it on atop Eric’s throne in Fangtasia. Yep, I really didn’t think this hook up in Season 7 would be as thoroughly entertaining as it turned out to be. I’m not sure if it was Ginger’s undeniable glee, or the fact that she is just so damn excited that she is over and done with in a matter of seconds or if it’s because it was very obviously a nod to the whole vampire fangirldom out there.
  2. WORST: Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and Lorena Krasiki (Mariana Klaveno) get bendy in Season 3. This one was just plain weird. And it made me want to throw up in my mouth just a little. Even just thinking about Bill twisting Lorena’s head all the way round as I am typing now is making me nauseous.
  3. BEST: Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) goes to visit Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) in her red riding outfit. Yeah, I’m pretty sure there was a spike in red riding hood capes in 2012 after Jessica wore hers in Season 5.
  4. WORST: Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) claws his way out of the grave to have sex with Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). I am still surprised Sookie didn’t need hospitalization after that romp. All that dirt, and in all the wrong places…
  5. BEST: Jason Stackhouse has a sex dream about Eric Northman – while he’s in church! Yep, I know after six months the effects of vampire blood on a human has probably worn off, but I’m glad to over look that for the fact that these two hooked up in Season 7.
  6. WORST: Bon Temps has an orgy. Thank you very much Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes) for coming to Bon Temps in Season 2 and making me see things that I cannot unsee. Although, on a flip side to this one, we did get a hilarious scene with Jason posing as ‘the god who came’…

True Blood’s Tara Buck Talks About the Origin of ‘That Scream’

Ginger the Screamer is a Fan Favorite – But What Got the Ball Rolling… erm… screaming?

Tara Buck rides Pam's coffin as Ginger in HBO's True BloodIn last week’s episode of HBO’s True Blood we saw a break from Ginger tradition. The Fangtasia waitress saw the end of an Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) dry spell – and rather than scream about it, she moaned. For three seconds. Before passing out on the fall in a puddle of fangbanging glory.

But where did that scream originate from? The actor who plays Ginger, Tara Back, admits it all started back in Season 1 with the death of Long Shadow (Raoul Trujillo). But it was really the second scream that cemented her role as Ginger the screamer. This event occurred in Season 2 when she shot Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis):

That was really the first scene that the scream made its way into the character’s profile. I screamed in the first scene of the season before, so season 1, but this was the first time Ginger had come back. I think it may have been written in the script that I screamed once, and I just thought it was funny. I thought it was funny she shoots him. She says she hates guns … she comes out … she’s so tough — trying to be so tough — and then personally I thought it was hilarious. But then she picks up the towel and brings him a towel and screams and looks at towel and screams because it’s so dirty. I just thought — the more she can scream the funnier it is when he’s the one who is shot and he’s laying on the ground — just … “Jesus Christ who is this woman?!”

So, there you have it, as far as Tara Buck is concerned, it was her second screaming incident that really made her character into the one we know and love so much today!

True Blood’s Tara Buck Talks About Ginger & Eric & THAT Scene!

Tara Buck Describes the Logistics of a Sex Scene with Eric Northman:

Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) get intimate in HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 9 (entitled 'Love is to Die')Well, wasn’t Episode 9 of HBO’s True Blood Season 7 interesting? For one cast member in particular, it was the climax of a promise made years earlier! If you haven’t watched the episode yet, you can read our recap by clicking here.

Tara Buck, who plays everyone’s favorite screamer, Ginger, finally got her moment on the throne with Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard). And – surprisingly – she didn’t even scream:

In the script, there was a wonderful note: Ginger doesn’t scream. Everybody’s expecting her to scream, so do something else. What they wrote was a high-pitched, almost electric sound that’s almost a little eerie. So we tried all kinds of things. I thought it would be fun if there was a moment where you think Ginger’s actually having a heart attack—you think it could be the end for her.

While Ginger has been an Eric Northman groupie for longer than most of us truebies, she admitted that for Ginger, the anticipation leading up to her sexual encounter with the viking vampire, may have been her very undoing – and why that sex lasted such a short amount of time.

With the deed completed in only a few short moments, in reality, it took hours of filming to get the scene just right. This meant that by the end of the day’s shooting, Tara’s core strength had gotten quite a workout:

I had the stunt double and was thinking to myself, “I only get three pumps. I am not letting somebody else come in here and finish this off.” [Laughs] So the only way to have a dismount is to slowly fall back. In my head, I imagined the funniest thing would be climax and then Ginger just falls out of frame. But we couldn’t shoot it that way. I had imagined a soft pad or something that I could just fall off of him onto. But when we were doing rehearsal, there was no pad there yet. So from the noise—the tea kettle, sort of hissing—she just sloooowly falls backward and then slides off of him. Mostly I slid off of him because I was trying not to get hurt in rehearsal.

Considering Ginger is the ultimate Team Eric groupie, Tara fully admits she ‘took one for the team‘ with last night’s encounter with Eric:

I do love that after everything that Ginger’s been put through, she finally got hers. As an actress who looks after her character, loves her character, feels very emotionally connected and attached, I am proud of Ginger. I feel that she worked very hard for that carrot at the end of the trail, and good for her. I also think Ginger became the archetype for Alexander’s fans, so for all the ladies out there, I took one for the team, and I couldn’t have been happier to do that. [Laughs]

True Blood Season 7 Spoilers: Goodbyes, Weird Sex & Love Triangles

Could an Original Cast Member Die in Episode 9 of HBO’s True Blood ?

Tara Buck stars as Ginger in HBO's True Blood Season 7It seems Episode 9 (entitled Love is to Die) will say a final goodbye to yet another original cast member of HBO’s True Blood! But will they die? It seems the devil is in the fine print of what TVGuide had to say about the upcoming episode recently:

With only two episodes to go, there are a lot of narrative threads to tie up, including the issue of Bill [Compton]’s mortality. I will only say this: At least one original cast member will say goodbye for good this week. In possibly related news, a longstanding love triangle will be resolved and you’ll see one of the show’s weirdest — and funniest — sex scenes between a long-unrequited pair.

How interesting is that news? With the admission of a long term love triangle also being resolved, one could assume that with Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) death, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) finally chooses Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard).  Consolation prize anyone? However, there is another love triangle going on at the moment – that of Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack), Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) and Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten). Perhaps TVGuide are referring to that triangle instead? Maybe Jess and Hoyt get back together and Jessica decides to move to Alaska to be with him? After all, it doesn’t specifically say the cast member will die.

And what of that sex scene, huh? Who do we know on True Blood that is part of an ‘unrequited pair’? Could it be Sookie and Eric? Probably not, since they have been intimate before. But it sure doesn’t leave many other options. Perhaps Arlene (Carrie Preston) and Keith (Riley Smith)? Especially since TVLine had this spoiler to announce:

Not everyone will get a happy ending on True Blood… but I think it’s safe to say that Arlene and Keith will be among the lucky few. Though we’re not going to get another pool table scene, this Sunday’s episode does show the effect Arlene’s relationship with Keith is having on her. (Spoiler Alert: She’s a very happy woman.)

But they haven’t been an item for very long, and many wouldn’t even really consider them as such. Oh, hang on a minute – what about Ginger (Tara Buck) and Eric? Now that would potentially be hilarious and weird!

True Blood’s Tara Buck Talks Big Hair, Big Screams and Big Backstory

Ginger’s Story Unfolds in True Blood Season 7:

Who knew that Ginger (Tara Buck) invented Fangtasia? HBO's True Blood Season 7 Episode 4 (Death is Not the End)Ginger (Tara Buck) is one of those characters in HBO’s True Blood that you just love for no reason at all. But its in Episode 4 of this season, we started to see behind the over-glamored veil of Ginger’s fan-girl-dom surrounding Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard), Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and vampires in general, leading us to know her just a little bit better and love her just a little bit more.

We see smart and vamp-smitten college student Ginger walk into the video store owned by  Eric and Pam only to realize that;

  1. They were vamps
  2. They were hiring
  3. Her life long dream of ‘being with’ a vampire could actually happen!

The scene with Ginger talking Pam’s ear off, about vampire movies, when Eric walks into the store it was described by Tara Buck as;

This is Ginger’s whole True Blood experience in this moment. [Laughs] At first Gregg [Fienberg] wanted it to be pretty subtle. And then we laughed, and we’re like, “You know what, let’s try not subtle, but it’s all internal. It’s still Ginger in 1996, so it’s not like a screaming over-the-top Ginger. It’s still a smart girl whose knees go weak and she can hardly stand up.”

The screaming things started way back in Season 1, quite by accident but it soon became ‘Ginger’s thing’;

She’s in that great scene where Bill (Stephen Moyer) stakes Longshadow (Raoul Trujillo), and he disintegrates, and I throw up. Sookie (Anna Paquin) is covered from head to toe in blood, so I think she and I both scream. It wasn’t a planned thing. When I came back, again it wasn’t necessarily there, but then I put it in. I started screaming, and then it became a running gag. I kept thinking, especially after Season 2, I was like, “I’ve got to stop screaming. How much can you scream before people want to put your eyes out?”

In this season we get to see so much of Ginger’s back story how she came to meet Eric and Pam by working for them in a video store that they owned in Shreveport for 10 years before Ginger came up with the idea, after the vampires had come out of the closet, that they should turn the store into a night club and call it Fangtasia! Ginger states:

Eric Northman is nothing if he is not pure f–king sex on a throne…”

while wielding an amazing throne-like chair she had found and that sex sells!

The inspiration for Ginger’s looks in this episode were “Reality Bites” vs Goth/punk leading to her hair getting blonder, bigger and the make up bolder!

Tara in an interview with The Hollywood reporter revealed that one of her favourite scenes Happened in True Blood Season 4:

I do love when I was in Season 4, when Pam had a skin-eating disease and I have to give her shots. She has that wonderful pink coffin, and the witches start calling, and her coffin is shaking. I have no idea what to do to assist her, but I swore that I would protect her, so all I can think to do is jump on top of that coffin. It definitely sort of solidified the screaming.

From smart and sassy, to spunky and scream-worthy, I think we all can say there is a soft place for Ginger in all our hearts now.

Tara Buck Screams Her Way Through The True Blood Season 7 Premiere

Ginger The Screamer is a Fan Favorite – and This is Why:

Tara Buck stars as Ginger the Screamer in HBO's True Blood Season 7Fans of Ginger the screamer (played by the delightful Tara Buck) were in for a treat at the HBO True Blood Season 7 premiere event. Not only did Tara look gorgeous and cheerful in a sunny yellow gown, but Marc Malkin from E!Online managed to get her to let rip one of her trademark screams!

Tara Buck has – after six seasons on the hit show – been made a series regular in True Blood’s final season. And thanks to an interview Tara did with Huffington Post recently, it seems we might finally get to find out Ginger’s backstory. Tara had invented her own personal version of her character’s backstory right from her very first appearance on True Blood, but she was glad to see that Ginger was finally given the chance to become a more rounded character, with depth and richness – even if it is only for the very last season!

You can view the video by clicking on the video image below (this will take you to the E!Online website) – but you might want to turn the volume down first!

VIDEO: True Blood Season 7 Premiere #TrueToTheEnd

True Blood Cast – Past and Present – Walk the Red Carpet:

True Blood Season 7 Red carpet event Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer #TrueBloodToTheEndWith only a few days to go until the premiere on HBO of True Blood Season 7, fans are in for a much needed treat: the red carpet premiere event! Trubies around the globe are lamenting the fact this will be the VERY LAST red carpet premiere event. But, with this sadness, there is still excitement. While most fans couldn’t attend the event – even from the sidelines – let TrueBloodNet fill you in on what went down!

While many of the cast members including Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse), Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton), Sam Trammell (Sam), Joe Manganiello (Alcide), Rutina Wesley (Tara), Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica), Ryan Kwanten (Jason), and Chris Bauer (Andy) turned up at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, a notable exception was – once again – Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman). However, this was to be expected. This is not because HBO are keeping him under tight wraps until his story line is resolved (involving that full frontal suntanning incident in True Blood Season 6), but because his is currently in London for the movie, Tarzan.

ExtraTV was on hand during the premiere event and you can watch their video interviews below:

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player  video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

What I found the most interesting with these videos is something Anna Paquin said: while the story line for True Blood Season 7 has been written, scenes are still being shot – so does this mean that things may change still? Only time will tell!

Something else interesting that popped up during the red carpet event was the appearance of Janina Gavankar and Michael MacMillian. Janina’s character, Luna Garza, died in Season 6, so why was she at the Season 7 event? Perhaps Luna will be one of the characters promised to return this season? Michael’s character, Steve Newlin was another character who didn’t survive Season 6, and with his wife, Sarah Newlin (played by Anna Camp), still alive and kicking could there be more to his story line as well?

As well as posing for pictures, many of the cast posed with a placard displaying the hashtag #TrueToTheEnd – do you think True Blood Season 7 will remain true to the end? Let us know in the comments below!

Finally, you can view all the Twitter and Instagram shots taken during the event  by the stars themselves in the photo gallery below.

True Blood Season 7: Trailer #2 – Still No Eric Northman

HBO Teaser Video Shows Plenty of Bill Compton, But Eric is Still Elusive:

Alexander Skarsgard stars (hopefully) as Eric Northman in HBO's True blood Season 7Well, HBO released the second official trailer video for True Blood Season 7 – and, yep, there’s still not a single sighting of Eric Northman (played by Alexander Skarsgard). They have upped the level of Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) appearances though and we’re not really sure what that all means yet.

This doesn’t mean the trailer video is boring though – quite the opposite in fact! There is PLENTY of action occurring from the very first second, right up until the close at 55 seconds. Here’s a quick break down for you:

  • Sookie (Anna Paquin) seems to think she is the only person in town who knows so much about vampires and then concludes that a war has erupted.
  • Speaking of wars, it seems there will be a battle between who will win Sookie over in the end.
  • There is a whole bunch of happy shots – and this would indicate that something bad is probably just around the corner…
  • Pam (Kristin Bayer van Straten) appears in brief snippets that give away absolutely nothing.
  • A blonde woman is apparently being taken against her will – is it Ginger (Tara Buck) perhaps?
  • Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) is eager to let people know that he belongs ‘here’ – just where ‘here’ is though could be anyone’s guess.
  • That bit where we saw all happy scenes, yeah, I was right, it all goes down the crapper towards the end of this trailer with people being bitten and the Bellefleur’s looking like a bomb zone.
  • There is a bomb exploding in front of Bill at what could possibly be Fangtasia.
  • Bill tells Sookie that there will be some sort of a decent, and, as a result, ‘they’ will be greatly outnumbered. On what, who or where, we don’t know yet. It does seem that Bill is trying to make up his behavior towards Sookie in Season 6 here though…

Secondly, you can see Janina in CW’s web series Husbands. She will star in the show as a trophy wife of sorts – and has possibly killed someone to that position! This certainly sounds intriguing.
  • Stephen Moyer has a couple of things going on also. If you like The Sound of Music, then you’d better get excited now, since Moyer will be reprising the role of Capt. George Von Trapp in NBC’s version of this classic movie. Carrie Underwood will play Maria; the role Julie Andrews made famous. If DVDs or BlyRays are your thing, then why not pick up a copy of the newly released movie Evidence? It stars Moyer, Radha Mitchell, and another True Blood star, Dale Dickey (Martha).

  • Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette Reynolds) is currently starring in The Butler as Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Rutina Wesley (Tara Thornton) will also be starring alongside another True Blood cast member, Pruitt Taylor Vince, in 13 Sins. Pruitt Taylor Vince played Dr Finn, a therapist at Vamp Camp in True Blood Season 6
  • Sad to see Steve Newlin die in Season 6? Well, don’t fear, you can see Michael McMillian in the upcoming movie The Banshee Chapter. This is a supernatural thriller that follows a journalist investigating the disappearance of a friend.
  • Speaking of Newlin’s – Anna Camp (who plays Steve’s ex-wife, Sarah Newlin) has a couple of TV shows coming up. Camp will play the ex-girlfriend of main character Brody in TBS’ new sitcom Ground Floor. She will also appear in Season 9 of How I Met Your Mother, playing the part of a troublesome wedding guest.
  • Jurnee Smollett-Bell has just been cast in Season 5 of Parenthood. She will play the role of Heather Hall, who is the campaign manager for cast regular Kristina (Monica Potter). Parenthood will return to our screens on Thursday, September 26 2013.Ryan Kwanten stars as Jason Stackhouse in HBO's True Blood Season 6
  • Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse) is currently soaking up the sun in Rio, but prior to that he has been very busy and has several movies in various stages of completion. Make sure you keep a look out for: Reach Me, The Right Kind of Wrong, 7500 and Knights of Badassdom.
  • Tara Buck (Ginger the Screamer) also has several movies coming up: The Night Visitor, Home, My Mother is Not a Fish and Medeas. And, of course, if you’re in Australia, you can catch Tara Buck in the flesh at Club Fangtasia in November.
  • Finally, remember Luna’s daughter, Emma? She was played by the adorable little actress Chloe Noelle. Recently, Noelle confirmed on Twitter that she had just signed up for a new TV show. She hasn’t said which one yet, but make sure you follow her on Twitter to find out.
So there you have it – plenty to keep us busy until True Blood Season 7 starts in 2014!

Who would you like to see at this event? And have you got your costume sorted yet? I have, but I’m not giving away any clues. If you want to see who I will be dressing as, you will have to buy your ticket now and check out my costume on the night 😉
