True Blood Season 7: Charlaine Harris Laments the Loss of Alcide

Charlaine Harris is Sad to See Her Werewolf Killed Off:

Charlaine HarrisWhile many Truebie fans were devastated over the loss of werewolf Alcide Herveaux (played by Joe Manganiello) in Episode 3 of HBO’s True Blood Season 7, for author Charlaine Harris, it was more personal than that.

In the books that True Blood is based on (the Southern Vampire Series), Alcide survives to the very end – even if he doesn’t end up with Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin in the TV series). Charlaine has seen the birth and death of many of characters differ from her series, but it seems this one has hit a nerve:

I did [watch] because I’m very fond of him. He’s a lovely guy, inwardly and outwardly, and I was very surprised, because, of course, that isn’t how my books end, but then, I didn’t really expect them to go out the way my books did. They haven’t really followed them significantly, which is fine, but it just leaves me wondering who else will bite the dust before the series is over.

True Blood Season 7: We Say Goodbye to Another Favorite!

Episode 3 of True Blood Claims More Casualties:

Joe Manganiello stars as Alcide Herveaux in HBOs True Blood Season 7Last Sunday’s episode of HBO’s True Blood saw the demise of another favorite character: Alcide Herveaux. The actor who played the werewolf, Joe Manganiello, however, predicted his own departure earlier on:

When I read the script for the finale of last year, I called it. I put it down and I was like, “Oh, Alcide and Sookie (Anna Paquin) are together? They’re going to kill me.” Story-wise, you can’t have her break his heart because then the audience isn’t going to side with her. You have to get her to Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) because they have to tie up the A and B plot. If you’re looking at a show like this where they’re looking for characters to help the show be vital, meaning you can kill off main characters and all of a sudden anyone can be killed off at any time, there is no one else my character is connected to except for Sam (Sam Trammell). So by default, I did some quick math in my head and was like, “They’re going to kill me really quickly.”

While Joe may not have been a fan of how he died in the last moments of Episode 3 (entitled Fire in the Hole), he is at least thankful that his death was not the result of a vampire – a fate even worse than death as far as a werewolf is concerned! And he is even more thankful that his character was not turned after death, as suggested by Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll).

And as for whether he thought Alcide had seen his full potential in True Blood, the actor had the following to say to TVGuide:

I feel like there was so much left unexplored. You never really got into Robert Patrick’s character, you never found out where his mom went and why [he and his father] didn’t get along. He had a love interest that really didn’t go anywhere. There was this little girl, Emma, that he orphaned by murdering her father — rightfully so, but still. He didn’t want to have kids because he didn’t want to pass his genes on. He is then given custody of this little girl who is a werewolf and there was no real resolution to that or exploration of him, out of guilt, helping to raise this little girl in the pack. You never really explored the guy. I would play him again in a movie if the rights became available. I would do a spin-off. I actually started writing a story line for that guy intended to be for the comic books, but then they got canceled, I guess.

As for leaving the show in it’s very last season, when asked if he took anything with him as a memento, he shared the following with People magazine:

When I got up off of that ground in 30 degrees after playing the death scene, I brought the sock home with me. I’m gonna frame it up and put it in my guest bathroom… I had to lay on the ground for hours, naked except for my [strategically placed] sock. It was freezing cold. The director’s like, ‘Stop rattling!’ And I’m like, ‘I’m trying!’

After filming a scene like that, I don’t blame him!

True Blood Season 7: Will werewolf Alcide Make the Final Cut?

Joe Manganiello Opens Up About Being Alcide Herveaux:

Joe-Manganiello-stars-as-Alcide-Herveaux-in-HBOs-True-Blood-Season-7.jpgWith the death of Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) so early on in HBO’s True Blood Season 7, fans are now starting to worry about a rumor circulating about the possible death of Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello):

In the books they have Alcide Herveaux still alive, but the books and the show have not always been the same, and this season will prove that point on multiple occasions with one of the big things being Alcide being killed.

This was reported recently on Hollywood Life by an apparent True Blood insider source, but has yet to be confirmed as factual. Fans have also pointed to the fact that Joe made the following comment in relation to the show as extra confirmation:

I think it creates a sense of urgency and electricity to the season that anybody could go at any time.

While there is no way to prove or disprove this rumor until either Alcide dies or survives True Blood Season 7, Joe still has plenty to say about being Alcide that can be substantiated. Recently he spoke to GQ magazine about what it’s like being known more for his abs than his acting career:

I think a lot of people don’t realise I’ve been acting for 21 years. They think that I just started a few years ago. There are probably a lot of people out there that also don’t think I can walk and chew gum at the same time because they are focused on the exterior, which you know is fine. When you’re underestimated, you spend an entire lifetime sneaking up on people and it’s easy to get ahead that way, so it’s all good.

But this actor is more than just the brawn that is Alcide. While working out is a big part of his life, the actor has so much more to offer, albeit recently still revolving around his physique. Thanks to being asked so often about his work out routine, he published a book, Evolution. Now he finds, while he still likes to talk about fitness and working out, he can direct people to his book and therefore free up time to chat about other things. He can also add documentary maker to his resume thanks to his success in the stripper flick, Magic MikeLa Bare is a doco that delves into the world of strippers also:

La Bare which is a real-life Magic Mike about a group of male strippers at one of the oldest clubs in the world in Dallas, Texas. It’s insane. I directed, financed and produced it with my brother Nick.

You can read the full interview GQ did with Joe Manganiello by clicking here.

And as for confirmed details about his character, Alcide Herveaux, in Season 7 of True Blood, it seems Joe is glad to be working with the core group of actors he started with after his disappointing story line in Season 6. He had the following to say to Digital Spy:

In my first couple of seasons on the show, I worked with the main cast. Then as time went on, I wound up on this satellite werewolf offshoot TV show, that was part of the show, but away from the main plot. I was happy with season seven because I got to come back to the main cast and work with those people again, and felt like I was part of the show.

I thought it [the Season 6 story line] was very one dimensional. There was a whole plotline that was cut from the show that dealt with Alcide and his father, played by Robert Patrick…We switched showrunners and one of the casualties was the loss of that storyline which I thought added balance, because without that storyline it came off as mindless yelling.

His final words on True Blood Season 7 confirm that there is still plenty of action to be seen before the show winds up for it’s final season:

It’s gonna wrap up all the plot lines, in hopefully a satisfying way for the fans, going all the way back to season one. I’ll be interested to see how the crowd reacts. It’s gonna be controversial to some fans, I think, and hopefully satisfying to others.

How do you think Alcide’s story line will be finalised – with a death or true love? Let us know by commenting below!

True Blood Season 7: How to Domesticate A Werewolf?

Joe Manganiello Discusses His True Blood Character, Alcide Herveaux:

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) get cosy in HBO's True Blood Season 7At the end of HBO’s True Blood Season 6, we discovered Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) in the arms of a new beau: Alcide Herveaux! The actor who plays Alcide the werewolf, Joe Manganiello, had this to say to TVLine about how his character will fare in True Blood Season 7:

He is domesticated [and] living in society… He isn’t the wild crazy wolf-guy anymore. [Sookie and Alcide] go to church on Sundays. He has to wear a blazer. He lives in gran’s house. He’s got a to-do list for the house. It’s different life for him. But it is what he has always wanted. He finally got the girl and he got the life. Now the only problem is that there are these marauding Hep-V pyscho vampires destroying the world. There’s gotta be something.

So life seems to be peachy for Alcide and Sookie – at the start of the season anyway. And considering the fact that the Hep-V infected vampires Joe mentions appear at the very start of Episode 1 in Season 7, I predict he and Sookie have about seven and a half minutes of happiness before it all goes down the drain! Here’s hoping their troubles don’t start because one of them is the shocking death that is reported to occur in episode 1.

Find Out More About True Blood’s Joe Manganiello

Joe Manganiello Tells Australian ‘The Age’ Newspaper How He Unwinds:

Joe Manganiello stars as Alcide Herveaux in HBO's True Blood Season 6, Episode 7, entitled 'In the Evening'Recently Joe Manganiello (who stars as werewolf Alcide Hereveaux in HBO’s True Blood Season 6) visited Australia to promote True Blood. While he was there he sat down with Lydia Feng from Australian newspaper The Age to talk about the important stuff – like how Joe likes to unwind. (Which in on the couch in front of his giant TV by the way.)

Some of the other things he let slip were:

  • That Mr Wong’s (a restaurant in Sydney, Australia) dumplings and his Peking duck pancakes are fabulous.
  • He likes to listen to Die Antwoord (a futuristic rap-rave crew from South Africa)
  • Cuban cigars are his weakness
  • Currently he thinks TV is better than the movies
  • His workout regime for True Blood involves two daily stints of exercise six days a week (now there’s dedication!)
  • Joe thinks True Blood is more popular in Australia than anywhere else he’s visited
  • The worst part of his True Blood fame is the paparazzi
  • Joe tells his mom not to watch the sex scenes in True Blood

VIDEO: True Blood Season 6 Episode 7 Sneak Peek: ‘Too Little Too Late’

Alcide Herveaux Chats to His Dad:

Joe Manganiello stars as Alcide Herveaux in HBO's True Blood Season 6, Episode 7, entitled 'In the Evening'There is a smorgasbord of teasers out there at the moment for HBO’s upcoming True Blood Season 6, Episode 7, entitled In the Evening.  in this clip, we find out a little bit more about the relationship between Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) and his dad (played by Robert Patrick).

There is also a suggestion right at the end that Alcide’s dad wants him to leave the pack life behind. Maybe that’s why Alcide has been so cranky in Season 6 – is pack life simply rubbing him the wrong way?

Wolf Pack Scoop from Jamie Gray Hyder on True Blood Season 6:

Jamie Gray Hyder on True Blood Season 6: Alcide as Packmaster and Being part of the Wolf Pack

Alcide and Danielle via TrueBlood Online

Jamie Gray Hyder, who portrays werewolf Danielle on HBO’s True Blood, is having a really good time on her second season of True Blood. She talks about Danielle’s role in the wolf pack:

I think as her role on the show has increased so has her role in the pack. I think that she’s very much an opportunist. Last season, she was willing to do V and also other stuff to impress the pack leader who was in power. And, now there’s a new pack leader and she’s vying for his attention. I think that she just wants to go along and be part of what’s going on and prove that she’s a viable asset to the pack.

Hyder concedes Danielle will ingratiate herself with Alcide (Joe Manganiello), the new Packmaster:

I think [she’s] going to continue to do whatever [she] can to appear valuable to him and the dynamics of everybody kinda changes throughout the season as we continue.

In episode 2, Alcide and the wolf pack abduct Emma from Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), and they have an all-out fight, knocking out Sam and Layfayette (Nelsan Ellis) (who was babysitting Emma). As humans have declared war on vampires, does this fight signal another war between werewolves and shapeshifters? Hyder weighs in:

Definitely. I think that we have just opened up a whole can of worms with what happened. In taking Emma, we’ve now involving [sic] a whole other group of people in our lives and in the pack. There’s so much drama going on in the town that I think that a big issue for us was that choice.

You’ll just have to see how the season plays out because it’s definitely now causing a lot more people to interact with us. And we probably should keep to ourselves, but Emma’s a wolf and we feel that it’s important that she’s with us and her grandmother and with the pack.

Alcide was more than a little bit scary in the way he abducted Emma, throwing her over his shoulder while she screamed for help. Is he a totally different person now that he’s Packmaster? Hyder shares her viewpoint on Alcide:

I think [that being Packmaster] requires him to step up and show a little more aggression than usual to assert himself. And, in the case of Emma, we went to Sam’s with a mission and we knew we had to leave with her. We really do feel that she’s safest with us. So, even though Alcide’s aggression is there, it’s simply there to help others.

Hyder feels that because Emma is a wolf, she really should be part of that lifestyle, and Sam is not an appropriate caregiver for Emma.  So what does Hyder think about the wolves getting involved in the state of Louisiana’s war on vampires?

I think that we’re trying to keep to ourselves as best as possible. We’re trying to look out for our own, but there’s no doubt that with such a big conflict going on in Bon Temps and in the State of Louisiana that we’ll be able to stay out of the conflict.

The drama is getting bigger and better with the wolves and the shapeshifters, it’s not all about the vampires anymore! Viewers are looking forward to more supernatural drama in the rest of the season of True Blood.

True Blood’s Alcide and Sookie Possible Hook-up Dead and Buried?

Remember when Alcide and Sookie Started Going at It in the Beginning of Season 5?

Sookie and AlcideYep and so do we! So what happened?

Alan Ball, creator of True Blood, said:

“The decision to not do it this season [came about because] every single season, it’s been all about Sookie falling in love with this person or that person. It seemed like she had enough on her plate this season to not just [say], ‘Okay, now Sookie’s gonna fall in love with Alcide!’”

Ball reassures that even though Sookie has put Alcide through the ringer, i.e. covering up his ex-girlfriend’s murder for her, puking on him, subjecting him to vamps who he despises, etc, that the door is not closed. Or not locked.

What do you Truebies think? Are you Team Eric? Team Bill? Team Alcide?

True Blood to be Reduced to 10 Episodes for Season 6!

Trubies, What Do You Think of HBO’s Decision?

Hey Trubies; I for one am not happy, with True Blood only being 10 episodes for next season. Wetpaint.com has posted an article about True Blood being reduced next season. Wetpaint references a TVguide article that you can read here. In the article Alan Ball says:

“[We are] moving production to January to accommodate [Anna’s pregnancy],” but there will also “only be 10 shows next season, partly because of Anna and partly because of the economics.”

About the show in Season 6, he also states:

“There will also be some other characters maybe who we know and love who are pursuing a less than generous agenda,” Alan spilled, also noting that Jason “might be” a danger to all of Bon Temps’ vampires!”

He also had news about Sookie and Alcide possibly rekindling their very brief romance in the next season.

What do you think about Season 6 being only 10 episodes long trubies? Let us know what you think by commenting in comment section below.

Kristin Bauer van Straten And Joe Manangiello Discuss The True Blood Season 5 Finale

The Actors Sat Down at San Diego ComicCon to Discuss HBO’s Vampire Drama:

truebloodpam_hollywood_reporterJust before the ComicCon panel for HBO’s True Blood, Joe Manangiello and Kristin Bauer van Straten sat down together to discuss their characters in the series’ Season 5. Mr. Manangiello plays hunky werewolf Alcide Herveaux and Ms. Bauer van Straten portrays snarky vampire Pamela de Beaufort.

Both actors look forward to and enjoy the fan interaction of their ComicCon appearances. They agreed that the True Blood panel was as close to being a Beatle as either of them will ever get. Ratings numbers and internet chatter does not provide the same pleasure as seeing the enthusiastic faces of fans.

Mr. Manangiello readily revealed that Alcide will be having a great deal of sex during Season 5.

“I really feel like I’m having the full True Blood experience. I get to have sex with a bunch of people. I get around sexually, I kill people. It’s pretty rad.”

Both actors agreed that True Blood is very much about relationships in Season 5, both the sexual and the emotional. Ms. Bauer Van Straten, however, is disappointed that her character has yet to kill anyone on screen. She says she watches Alex (Skarsgård) ripping bodies apart and wishes she got to do that.

Ms. Bauer van Straten’s character Pam, has become a maker in Season 5, having turned Tara (Rutina Wesley) in order to save her life. At the same time, Pam has been released by her own maker, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård).

“Everything really is at stake for Pam. It expanded this year for me. Pam became totally 3D.”

Kristin and Joe Discuss Sex with Werewolves and the True Blood Season 5 Finale

Mr. Manangiello revealed that there is a rougher version of Alcide’s drunken make-out session with Sookie (Anna Paquin) than the one that finally aired. That footage, however, is on the cutting room floor. He also told about conversations he had with showrunner Alan Ball, before the filming of Season 5 regarding what sex with a werewolf would be like.

“We both agreed that the girl wakes up in the morning and does that ‘Oh’ thing, and then does the cowgirl walk the whole day.”

Ms. Bauer van Straten confessed to being a geek herself over the television show Battlestar Galactica. At a previous ComicCon she met Tricia Helfer (Cylon Number Six), who had never seen True Blood and didn’t realize Ms. Bauer van Straten was also an actress.

“So I have this really awkward photo with Tricia Helfer somewhere.”

When asked about the True Blood Season 5 finale, neither actor could say much without spoilers. Ms. Bauer van Straten was happy with what Pam got to do during her scenes. Mr. Manganiello was thrilled to have Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) playing his father and said his scenes are sufficiently bloody.

This video is a very entertaining watch. The actors interact with friendship and humor that can’t be described and do it justice.
