HBO’s True Blood Casting Two New Characters for Season 6:

Spoilery Details Can Be Found In New Character Descriptions

True Blood LogoSeason 6 of the HBO series True Blood has begun filming the ten episodes that will air this summer. While no start date has been announced, it’s rumored June is a safe bet. New show-runner Mark Hudis announced the production is casting two new characters as series regulars. It’s possible that dedicated fans can read between the lines of the descriptions to glean hints and spoilers of what’s to come in Season 6.

The first of the two characters lands on the evil side of things. Crooked politician, Creighton Burrell, has no love for vampires. Burrell’s wife abandoned him and their daughter when she ran off with a vampire. As the Governor of Louisiana, Burrell often lets his personal ambitions overpower his humanity.

The second of the new characters is ‘do-gooder’ Nicole Jannsen. Nicole is a key member of group of well-meaning activists. Nicole herself has no concerns for money and worries only about doing the right thing.

“When the show returns, we’ll be introduced to a cockeyed optimist named Nicole Jannsen who runs with a (no pun intended) pack of civil rights activists in the (pun intended) vein of the 1960s Freedom Riders. Unfortunately for the lot of ’em, their good intentions aren’t necessarily backed up by a whole lotta common sense.”

Since no casting decisions have been announced, who would be on your True Blood acting dream team? If you could cast anyone you wanted in both roles, who would it be?

Spoilers! True Blood News on Episode 2 of Season 4 and more!

true-blood-sam-trammell-shirtlessSeen on E!Online’s Watch with Kristin column:

@Shanwink (via Twitter): True Blood goss!
Episode two of season four (which premieres Sunday, June 12!), is set at Fangtasia and called “You Smell Like Dinner.” Fangbanger smorgasbord, anyone? A source on set also told me they are building some sort of bakery and/or pie shop for the upcoming season three. Oh God. Maybe Strawberry Shortcake’s nemesis is the new big bad?! They’re also building a “weird looking metal shack” and allowing Sam (Sam Trammell) to go more grey this season. You heard it here first, people! (Sorry if we just ruined the whole season for you.)

Stephen Moyer a Potential Candidate for Dr. Strange Film

Stephen Moyer, True Blood, Bill comptonIt’s a sign of how much fans have come to love Stephen Moyer from playing Bill Compton on True Blood that they are suggesting him for a number of roles in upcoming films. We just can’t get enough of that man.

Last week there were reports that Stephen had a lot of vocal support for the part of Roland in the adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Hunter series. Now SciFiSquad.com is saying that people want him for the title role in Dr. Strange. At Dragon*Con in Atlanta a couple weeks ago, the legendary Stan Lee announced the adaptation from the classic Marvel comic book series, complete with a cameo from Stan himself.

Dr. StrangeIt is not scheduled for release until 2012, but we’ve all seen how much hype and publicity surround these comic book movies—and how the good ones become major worldwide blockbusters that launch their actors to superstardom.

Brad Trechak at SciFiSquad says he could see Stephen as the doctor (coincidentally, named Stephen Strange) “provided he could pull off the character’s required mustache.” Here’s hoping the casting director sees people talking about Stephen—he’s certainly talented enough to bring the master magician to life, and it would be great for his career.

The Strike That SAG Forgot

johnmc1The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) will be meeting on Wednesday February 18th for the first time this year in an attempt to button up a deal on the feature-primetime contract. The meeting was first scheduled for two weeks ago but was suspended when, in a series of events worthy of it’s own ‘Movie of the Week’, the president of SAG, Alan Rosenberg took to the courts in an attempt to prevent Doug Allen, the erstwhile negotiator who had been pushing for a very unpopular strike, from being fired along with the totality of the negotiating committee. After successfully firing Mr. Allen the moderate wing of SAG which currently occupies 70% of the seats of the negotiating committee named a new chief negotiator, SAG’s senior advisor, John McGuire.

Baring another political earthquake Mr. McGuire and NED David White will be meeting Nick Counter and the rest of the AMPTP team to iron out the final details of a deal that they hope to present to the SAG national board this Saturday. If approved by the committee, the ballots to ratify the deal may be sent out next week with the final count being done 3-4 weeks later. The ongoing contention surrounds internet programming and sales of DVD.

However, Mr. Rosenberg has not given up, trying unsuccessfully for the third time to get the courts to intervene in Doug Allen’s firing last Friday. Rosenberg has pulled out all the stops in his attempt to support Allen including filibustering for 28 hours to prevent a vote to oust Allen earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether he will proceed with the lawsuit after a deal has been met and unclear what if any effect even a judgment favorable to Mr. Rosenberg would have as time travel is still only possible sci-fi/fantasy productions. Once the deal is voted on by the general membership it is unlikely to be overturned by any court. Further, the potential strike that’s been threatened by Allen for four months or more was unlikely to be affirmed by the members as lower paid ‘below the liners’ strongly oppose the strike. The majority of the SAG members are still financially reeling from last years months long Writers strike but the stress has split the union into two groups the ‘Let’s Get Back to Work’ faction and the Membership First faction both of whom, in a penultimate act worthy of Irwen Allen, are expected to demonstrate at the meetings this week.

No matter the outcome of these meetings nor of the pending lawsuit it is unlikely to affect the next season of True Blood as shooting commenced over a month ago and any attempt to secure a strike would take at least a month from it’s initiation. Even if there is no agreement between SAG and AMPTP with the current negotiators it’s unlikely that a strike vote will be called. Therefore any disruption would have to await the unlikely resolution of the lawsuit which will not be fast-tracked when True Blood, and most other television shows, are already in the can. With the effectiveness of a strike waning daily, the obvious lack of support for the strike by the general membership (it would require a 75% threshold be met before a strike could happen) and ongoing disruption to the union this writer wonders what motivates the current SAG president.

In the meantime I’m eagerly awaiting the mini-series.
