True Blood Creator Alan Ball’s New Series “Banshee”

Alan Ball Set to Executive Produce a Cinemax Series:

True Blood creator Alan Ball (WB)Alan Ball, the mastermind behind our favorite show on television, HBO’s True Blood, will be working on a new Cinemax series titled “Banshee”. Ball will be the executive producer. Here’s a brief synopsis of the show:

“The series will be set in a small town in Pennsylvania Amish country (the titular Banshee) and will feature an enigmatic ex-con who’s also an expert in martial arts. Darkly comic in tone, the show will have the ex-con posing as a murdered sheriff, imposing his own brand of justice while also cooking up plans that serve his own interests.”

The series is still in the working stages. There is no premiere date, no casting has been done, but the hope is that shooting will begin spring of 2012. Truebies, what do you think of the synopsis? Does it spark your interest?

True Blood Soundtrack Volume 3 Review

True Blood Likes Its Music!

True Blood Soundtrack Vol.3The third True Blood soundtrack, True Blood: Music from the HBO Original Series, Volume 3 was released on September 6. BlogCritics.com posted a review, and in it, author Amanda Stonebarger states:

“If ‘Southern Gothic’ were a musical genre, the term could be used to describe True Blood: Music from the HBO Original Series, Vol. 3. For the latest soundtrack, music supervisor and soundtrack producer Gary Calamar cherry-picks from different branches of Southern music and spins a sinister thread throughout, creating a mixture of country, rock, and soul straight out of the Louisiana swamp or a seedy vampire bar.”

In the CD’s booklet, Alan Ball talks about music being important in creating the show, and how it helps the writers set the tone of the show each week. The music also provides episode titles, and this volume includes songs from Season 3 and Season 4. The first song on the album is “Season of the Witch” by Karen Elson, featuring Donovan, which I think had almost the same reception as “Bad Things” by Jace Everett, which is the show’s theme song.

Other songs on the album include “Hitting the Ground” by Gordon Gano and PJ Harvey; “Spellbound” by Siouxsie and the Banshees; Damien Rice’s “9 Crimes”; Gary Louris and Jakob Dylan’s “Gonna Be A Darkness”;  as well as the covers “And When I Die” by The Heavy and “She’s Not There” by Nick Cave and Neko Case.

The deluxe version of the album includes four different versions of songs on the standard album — “Bad Things”, covered by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and three covers of  “She’s Not There” by Dick Isreal and the Soothsayer, L’Avventura, and Paper Pilots.

I, for one, like all the songs on the album and can’t wait to purchase it. What about you, Truebies? What do you think of the music on the album? Let us know by commenting below.

True Blood Season 4 Finale References Reality TV Star

A Teen Mom For Halloween? Why Not?

Arlene’s daughter Lisa Season 4 finaleTruebies may have thought Arlene’s daughter Lisa on the True Blood Season 4 finale was dressed as her pregnant mom for Halloween, but that was not the case, as we learned from her response to Sam:

“I’m Jenelle from ‘Teen Mom 2’.”

The MTV teen mom, Jenelle Evans, was surprised when she heard that she’d been named on the hit HBO series. She only found out that it occurred when fans started tweeting her about it. She tweeted her followers back, asking:

“Who is watching ‘True Blood‘ right now? What did they say about me?”

Evans thought it was weird and did not know why they would care enough about her to reference her on the show. Truebies, what did you think of the costume and shout out to the reality star?  Leave us a comment below.

Joe Manganiello Talks About the Season Finale:

Manganiello on Good Day LAIn an interview on Good Day LAJoe Manganiello, who plays the tall, dark and handsome werewolf Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s True Blood, spoke about being scared on the job, Fiona Shaw, and what it was like at the end:

“You’re going to see more blood, more sex… and actually at the last table read — usually our table reads are known for being huge casts sitting around the table — by the final table read, it got very lonely. There were not many of us left, I’ll say that.”

Truebies, like me, I am sure you are so sad that the season’s over.  But check out the video, and let us know your thoughts on the interview by commenting below.

A Tribute to Tommy

We Say Goodbye to a Character:

Marshall Allman as Tommy S4 Ep9During episode nine of season 4, titled “Let’s Get Out of Here”, Tommy Mickens (Marshall Allman) who plays Sam Merlotte’s (Sam Trammell) brother, again shifts into Sam. He is able to “skinwalk” because he killed his parents. We found out that could happen from Luna, Sam’s love interest. Her mother died giving birth to her, and she shifted into her mother once. Tommy shifts into Sam to protect him from werewolf pack leader Marcus, who was married to Luna. Tommy as Sam goes to meet Marcus, and when he arrives there are other pack members, along with Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello). After some heated words, all the werewolves (except Alcide) proceed to beat the living daylights out of Tommy. After several blows, Tommy turns back into himself. Marcus becomes alarmed, and Alcide picks Tommy up and leaves. During the last episode, “Burning Down the House”, Alcide wants to take Tommy to the hospital, but Tommy declines, sensing that he’s not going to make it, and prefers to go home instead. They arrive at Merlotte’s the same time as Sam, who is frantic, and wants to get him some vampire blood to save him. Tommy declines, knowing he is dying, and having come to terms with it. Inside, the brothers share some last words, and a tender moment, seeming to work through their issues. Sam sheds some tears, and Tommy dies.

We’re sorry to see Marshall go, he played his character well. Here is a small photo tribute to Tommy:

A Little Birdie Told Me — True Blood PSAs part 4

New PSAs From True Blood For “It Gets Better”:

This fourth article is again courtesy of True Blood’s official YouTube page. Jim Parrack (Hoyt Fortenberry), Todd Lowe (Terry Bellefleur), Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler), Ryan Kwanten and Chris Bauer (Jason Stackhouse and Andy Bellefleur) made “It Gets Better” PSAs for the Trevor Project. They talk about personal experiences with bullying.

Jim Parrack talks about being a bully:

“I’d like to be very honest with you all and let you know that growing up I made things very difficult on people around me at school, I was a jerk, and that’s gotten better too. Somehow I had it in my mind that if I could lash out at other people or hurt them that somehow I could secure something for myself. To address that I just want to say, you never get anything at all from putting someone else down. There’s no substance to it, there’s no real value to it, there’s no change. All you end up doing is hurting other people, and then being stuck with that realization some day… For those of you who are being victimized or brutalized by people like that, it’s all going to stop. The day is coming where you get to walk out into life, choose the road you’re going to go down, choose the people you want to spend your time with, and you’re free of it all.”

Todd Lowe offers one way to cope:

“If you find yourself the victim of bullying or discrimination, one of the things you can do to empower yourself is to write a story about your bully or tormentor… and make sure it has a happy ending. They go off and live their life, you live yours. Remember, it gets better.”

Carrie Preston talks about community:

“You may be feeling like you’re being bullied because you’re different from everybody around you. I just want you to know that it’s temporary, life is temporary. You are surrounded actually in this world by a much larger community who is made up of gay people, and straight people, and bisexual people, and transgendered people. But I think that we’re a community that’s not really commonly brought together because we have a certain sexual orientation — we’re a part of a community that’s humane, a part of a community that accepts people, a part of a community that loves people and will love you for who you are. So seek us out, we’re here for you. We want you to be who you are, and we will support you in whatever it is that you choose to be, seek us out we’re out here. It gets better, I promise.”

Kwanten and Bauer share being an outsider in common:

“We’re here to talk about bullying. Not the most popular of subjects but one that we must face. Look, Chris and I are both very much kind of outsiders. As much as it wouldn’t seem like we are. And we’re here to tell you that we don’t think we’re alone, we now know that we’re not alone. And if you also feel like an outsider, feel like that no one’s listening to you, believe me there are places to go, there is someone to turn to, there is a comfort, a security network that you can turn to. And if you’re one of the pickers, if you’re one of the bullies, you’ve gotta be kidding me! And you’re not alone. There’s a lot of people going through what you’re going through. Reach out, talk about it. Ask a caregiver, ask a coach, a teacher, anybody who’s there. You can get the help. And I promise you, it gets better.”

Will True Blood’s Russell Edgington Return?

Denis O’Hare Talks Possible Return in 5th Season:

Denis O’Hare as Russell Edgington S3Denis O’Hare spoke recently about the possibility of his return to True Blood as vampire Russell EdgingtonKing of Mississippi. When we last saw Russell he was burned from the sun, bound by silver and was being covered in cement by Bill and Eric, which happened at the end of the 3rd season. When asked whether the king will return, O’Hare said:

“I think Alan Ball was asked recently about Russell’s return and he said, ‘Russell’s not dead’, and I can’t do better than that so I’ll just reiterate what he said. It’s a great character and I feel he hasn’t been able to completely express his dreams yet, I think more than any of the other vampires that season he had ambition and huge dreams. I’m still attracted to that, and I think he needs to fulfill whatever it is he’s aiming for and go out in a blaze of glory in whatever it is he needs to do.”

O’Hare also said that he expects to return as Russell at the start of the fifth season next year. So Truebies, what do you think? Are you a fan of Russell Edgington and looking forward to his return, or do you think he should be done? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

A Little Birdie Told Me — True Blood PSAs Part 3

New PSAs From True Blood For “It Gets Better”:

Janina Gavankar It Gets Better shirtThis third article is again courtesy of True Blood’s official YouTube page. Joe Manganiello (Alcide Herveaux), Janina Gavankar (Luna), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica), and Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) made “It Gets Better” PSAs for The Trevor Project. In these PSAs they talk about their personal experiences with bullying.

Joe Manganiello talks about being picked on as a kid because he was bigger than the others, but unwilling to use his size as a reason to bully, just because he could. He got picked on for his big ears, which caused his parents to allow his hair to grow longer, in an attempt to cover them up. As a result, the kids started calling him “’Froey Joey”. In high school he stuck up for the kids that were being bullied.

He says:

“I made it my business to stick up for those kids and try to help those kids out, and be a friend to those kids.”

Janina Gavankar was verbally bullied in high school. She says that the kids never said things to her personally, but she found out things were being said about her.  She assures us:

“If you’re gay, straight, artistic, busier than everybody else because you actually have a life and something interesting to think about besides the gossip, and they hate ya for it… that’s OK. I know what all of those girls are doing now. And I’m ok. It gets better. Trust.”

Deborah Ann Woll talks about one incident in school where someone left a note in her locker that said, “Why don’t you just kill yourself because nobody likes you”. It may have been a quote from a movie at the time, but she did not find it amusing. She would get calls in the middle of the night, with people saying mean things. Her poor mother was affected by this, too. They both went through a lot, together. Deborah says all she remembers is wanting to be an actor. She says her dream is what got her through it all, and,

“Despite all of those instances where people made me feel less than, I now have a better understanding of humanity, in a way. I can now be a friend to the lonely. So just remember that it gets better.”

Sam Trammell talks directly to people who are being bullied or contemplating suicide because of being bullied. He says the people who bully others do so because they’re insecure and going through the same difficult times you are, and are acting out. He explains:

“They do not represent the real world outside of school that you’re so quickly moving into. Life moves so fast and if you can just get past this little bump, you’ll see that you’re going to be celebrated for your differences and your uniqueness. You’ll be loved for them. You’re not alone, there’s a great community out there that’s waiting to embrace and love you for who you are. Teenage bullies are not what the world is made of… Please don’t let the senseless actions of a bully take you from us. It gets so much better.”

Truebies, if you feel picked on or alone and need help, please call 1-866-4-U-TREVOR or visit TheTrevorProject.org or GLSEN.org.
